Jeremy & I can’t decide.
Let me start over.
We sold our guest bedroom furniture. (You can read all about how that furniture didn’t fit here). And we moved our existing master bed into the guest bedroom. You saw that in the messy house tour. The master space was overwhelmingly brown. Brown bed. Brown sidetables. Brown dresser. Brown…brown…brown. And then we went on vacation and slept in a king sized bed.
We were like two people wandering through the jungle thinking that everything was fine. Sleepin in that king was like the dart in our necks. We woke up tied to a branch hangin over a blazin fire. Not really. I am being dramatic. for effect. We just realized that something was wrong with our situation. It was our dinky little queen sized bed at home. Suddenly it seemed smaller than Lea Michele on Glee.
So when we got home, we decided we were definitely gonna “pop to the full-sized” (as Gaylord Focker said)…and we immediately went mattress shopping. Here’s our little bed-tester in action at our local mattress clearance center:
Innie cute? Even with the bad iPhone photos, he’s adorable 🙂
Now we have a bed-frame in the works (more on that later) and our bed on the floor. AND NO BEDDING. To solve this temporary problem, we layered queen sized sheets over both sides and then blankets and then comforters. In order for us to find each other in bed, it takes night vision goggles, sonar and a whole heap of breadcrumbs. Talk about foreplay 🙂
So we’ve been thinking…we need bedding. real bedding. grown up bedding. We’re grown. We can handle it. But we have vastly different tastes. Jeremy wants something with stripes or manliness…I told him that we already have THREE comforters or duvets with stripes…and DANG IT I WILL GET A FLORAL IF IT’s THE LAST DECORATING DECISION I EVER MAKE. And then my head went in circles excercist style. Needless to say, narrowing it down to the option for us is literally like asking a child what fingers they want to keep. As in…JEREMY & I CAN”T DECIDE.
We finally came up with a compromise. It’s a Pottery Barn duvet that comes in red or blue. It’s floral but it’s simple enough to please the boyfriend. Using their bed-designer tool, I created two similar but different looks for our future master bedroom. Wanna see? Ok. ok. keep your panties on. I’m talkin to you mom. heehee. Ok. I will let you see it but only under one condition…YOU HAVE TO VOTE FOR YOUR FAVORITE.
Obviously, we changed the bed to white (because our new bed is going to be white) and we changed the background to show the drapes that currently hang behind our master bed. I have listed the pros & cons of both so that you can see our thought process. And we added the red coverlet/shams & blue velvet blanket/shams because we will probably just spring for the complete look. HELP!

RED!!! I just like the color better!
Jessica says
My personal preference is the blue. To me, if you’re spending almost $500 on bedding either way, $30 is not that much of a price difference. At least not enough to sway me one way or the other.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the blue!

I’m a fan of the blue! I love that color.

Red. Definitely red. I love it, and I’m not a fan of red!!
tabitha says
definately the blue! much more calming and elegant
Mallory @ R. Simple Life says
I like them both, but for a master, I LOVE the blue! So much more relaxing! And I agree with Jessica, $30 isn’t that much of a difference!
Michelle says
BLUE! Why the heck, if you were looking for a change, would you keep the same wall color and same color scheme. Dare to be different!
stephanie says
I like them both… somedays I like the color blue more, somedays I like reds more, so basically it depends on the day 😉
But I always, always, always HATE painting, so I would choose Red 100% on that fact. Cause I’m lazy like that.
Mary @ Apartment TLC says
blue i heart it completely. but i also must admit that i gave into the manlines, he won that battle.
Abby @ abby & her boys says
Hands down–the blue!
Kim says
You’re going to love this bedding! I’ve been following (read – choking with laughter every time I open my Google reader) your blog for about 6 months now and had to comment this time. The hubs and I just sprung for this bedding (the blue version) from PB over the summer…hadn’t spruced up our room since getting married 5 years ago. My vote is for the blue…and he likes it and so do I. Florally without monstrous flowers. Can’t wait to see what you choose!
Amanda says
Definitely blue 🙂
Lori H says
While I do love red, in this case, I think the blue is so serene and perfect for a bedroom.

Blue. That red seems pretty girly for your Mr.
Tina says
Blue–so calming and relaxing looking, and you can take the dark blue blanket off in summer.
Heather says
That’s too funny. My husband and I have been looking to upsize from our queen size bed to a king…we bought our bed yesterday. So, we’re looking for new bedding too….he’s not a fan of floral either. My pick would be the red one….I’m a huge fan of red though so that may be a bias decision. It was one of my wedding colors. Happy decision making…I’m sure it’s going to be beautiful whatever color you pick!
Caz says
Blue sorry! I am normally such a red person, but I just think the blue looks so much nicer and calmer for a bedroom.
Heather says

Blue. Definitely. I think the floral seems more subtle in the blue. Plus, I just love the color blue.

Definitely the blue. But maybe that’s because I’m so tired of the red in my own bedroom! But it’s really stunning. LOVE it!
Elisa @ What the Vita says
Blue.
Liesal says
I really like the blue. It’s really soothing to the eye.
Mollie says
I like the blue WAY better. It looks soothing and better against the white bed.
jamie says
My 6’4 husband and I slept in a full sized bed for about 3 years. When we bought a house our parents offered to buy us a queen sized bed. We opted to pay the difference a get a king. WOW WHAT A DIFFERENCE! It took some getting used to, but ultimately we sleep so much better now. I have no idea how we ever slept in a full.
I like the blue bedding though.
Sarah Korch says
I vote blue. Didn’t you say you were doing red in the guest bedroom? That may be a lot of the same if you go red. Also, blue is more of like a neutral than the red. If you get tired of the blue and white down the line, you could add a color (like sage or terra cotta) without changing the whole (expensive) bedding.
Paige says
Definitely blue. A little more manly – compromising with your floral choice, and I think it’s a lot more serene for a bedroom.
Amanda says
Blue! 🙂
Renee says
blue. blue. blue!
Laura says
blue all the way!! Love it!
Devon says
I’d choose the blue! It is much more calming.
Angie says
I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the blue! That is my choice!
Renee says
RED!
We just bought a king size too and are seriously in heaven now when we go to bed! I don’t know how we survived in a queen…especially when the rugrats want to sleep with us.
Lynette says
Love the blue. And I am a red lover, really, my favorite color. But, love love love that blue one so much more.
Sarah says
We’re experiencing a similar design dilemma and I think we’re going with the calm grey-blue for our bedroom. But, any other time that red and blue got in a fight, I think red would win.
Carolyn says
I vote blue with the warning that I am a sucker for beach/ocean shades
shannon says
BLUE!!!
110% the blue.
and that little baby will is just the cutest thing. SUCH a cutie.
jessica says
Blue!
Both are great but the blue is not that much more expensive (esp when you’re spending that much anyway) and it’s so easy on the eyes.
However, both would look great.
Christine says
Blue for certain!
Karen says
RED!!!
laurajane says
BLUE!
Carly says
BLUE! We had a darker blue in our room and my husband wanted to do away with the duvet cover. I decided to change colors since we were changing bedding. I went with a red/gold paisley. The red was just too much for me in there. Now we have a light blue. It is floral but it lightened up the room. So I vote for blue because I like it better.
rebecca jordan says
blue! i hate that it will require all of that work for you, but i just love it! if it was me, i’d have to say no, because i’d never get the work done. but for you… you can totally do it!!! 🙂

I’m going to have to go with the blue. The good news is, you’re great painters! 🙂
Audrey says
Love the blue. Your master will feel like a swanky hotel room!
emily says
I am so over red these days! Go for the blue!
becky says
I like the blue one the best, but I’d worry about it being too warm since you live in the South and all. 🙂 Great duvets, either way!
Kelsey says
I’m a sucker for blue in the bedroom. DEFINITELY blue.
Allison says
love the blue!
Larissa says
The red is nice but way to vibrant for a master suite. I say definitely the blue. It is so soothing and I think you’ll enjoy it longer.
Amy says
Blue!
S. Shaw says
“…asking a child what fingers they want to keep”… what??!
Red. Definitely the red. The blue is boring and I’m sick of seeing EVERY one do the light blue/tan/white scheme( *yawn*.) Go with the red.
mb says
BLUE for sure! We just bought a new duvet and blanket from PB and our master bedroom is so much cozier now. Besides, the blue will be so much easier to update later on if you want to add new pillows or throws for a change.
Samantha says
Blue!!
Lindsay says
BLUE for sure. It’s so calm and peaceful.
amy goodhouse says
To me, the price isn’t enough to make a difference. That being said, I would go with the blue. Blue is much calmer and the red is a little prohibitive to sleeping. But that’s just me. And now I’m excited to see 2 bedroom make-overs! Woo!
Also, I hate to be the person who’s annoying and points out this stuff, but it’s spelt “dilemma” not “delimma”. And I mean that in the least bitchiest way possible 🙂 because I also make typos when I’m indecisive 🙂
Meghan says
Blue! Soothing, relaxing, less farmhouse like the red ;).
Katie says
Love the blue! The price difference isn’t that much, and to me, the red is rather jarring. The blue is so inviting and relaxing 🙂
Carolyn says
I would choose the blue, just because blue and white is one of my favorite color combos. I love soothing colors in my home, especially my bedroom. However, the red is perfectly beautiful too! You can’t make a wrong choose here! 🙂
Ashley says
Holy cow, no wonder you can’t decide. They’re both adorable. But I think my vote is for the blue. I think it’s a little more grown up:)
Trish says
Can I tell you how much I love your blog? You’re my blog role model 🙂

Blue! It’s so soothing, and more contemporary and young.
Marie Bean says
Blue… for sure!
Kelly P says
I vote blue! The color is so much more calming – perfect for a Master Bedroom. I wouldn’t let the $30 make the decision.
Julie says
Definitely blue! But…. the $500 is JUST for bedding?!?!?!? Holy cr@p!
Kate says
blue, 100% my sister just got the red set and (don’t tell her) it’s a little overwhelming. i had similar pottery barn bedding (same color, same fabric) until a few months ago and i absolutely loved it in our bedroom. PLEASE go with the blue!
Carmel @ ourfifthhouse says
BLUE! Parents need a calm place to end the day and blue is calming! What I wanna know is what kind of mattress did you go with?
Leslie says
The BLUE!! It made me Swoooon!
Bridget says
I’ll ask you a question I heard asked on “Say Yes to the Dress – Atlanta”.
There was a bride who was caught between two dresses. She loved one and her mother loved the other. While wearing the dress her mother loved the sales lady asked her. “If you chose this dress, on your wedding day would you be thinking about the other one?” The bride paused for a moment and then replied “yes”. Her decision was made.
So I ask you – “When you sleep with the red/blue, will you be thinking about the other one?”
I know the majority is saying blue and that is what I would choose if I was making this decision for myself. But it would suck to spend $500 and then think about the other one every night as you went to bed.
=)
Tracy says
Hi, they are both beautiful. Have you actually seen them in person in the store? Just sayin-might want to check them out first before you order, I loved the red, the color was so different in the store compared to the catalog. I was not crazy about the quality either. Usually I love Pottery Barn stuff.
Katie says
Honestly Bridget, there are reasons to love the other no matter the choice. I think in the end, my paralysis in choosing will inhibit me from moving forward…and so that is why I put it to the masses…because they have great taste 🙂
XO – kb
marika says
another blue vote!
Katie says
Hi Julie,
yeah…I KNOW. But it is for the 4 shams, the coverlet or quilt and the duvet…and the king size is ridiculously priced. To justify the cost, we are BUILDING a bed and we saved a boatload on the mattresses. At least that will help offset the costs.
XO – kb
Katie says
whoops. Thanks Amy goodhouse…my spellchecking ability is terrible.

Bree Love says
Blue..so much more soothing, and sophisticated.
sabrina Pate says
Blue!!! The Red is too blah for some reason. The Blue is soothing.
Laura Kravec says
I love the blue. I got tired of my red living room really fast. The blue gives you more flexibility with accents and accessories.
Rebekah says
I would personally choose the blue. No doubt about it. I have red right now and I wish I would have chosen blue myself. Just as soon as I can convince my sister that she loves my bedding so much that she just has to have it, I will be getting my blue bedding. 🙂
Kristen says
I am normally a red person but I think the blue is better in this case. I think it’s the pale red color that is pushing me to the blue side. Can’t wait to see what you pick!
wendi says
I like the blue….but I always love blue in a bedroom. More calming for sure.
Mrs.BigTime says
Love the blue! I don’t know if it’s the color of my monitor or what, but I’m not crazy about the velvet coverlet. I think a softer cream-colored sham would be prettier (and maybe less manly, so that may not work), but either way, my vote is for the blue.
Ashley E says
Blue! I LOVE blue and white in the bedroom – it is so soothing and peaceful. We had a deep red duvet for a while as our master bedding, and while striking and dramatic, I was yearning for something soothing and peaceful. A new white duvet cover and a light blue PB quilted coverlet did the trick for us, and now our bedroom is so calming. I love it. That said, though, I really do like the vintage chic farmhouse feel that the red duvet gives off.
Sandra says
Blue.
I don’t think you have to repaint, and if a blanket is too hot – don’t use it. Who uses blankets or duvets or any of that crap in the summer? It gets kicked to the end of the bed anyway.
Brianne says
I love blue in a bedroom!
laura says
I vote blue – we have the PB matine toile in that shade of blue and I love it.
Ally says
BLUE BLUE BLUE! very lovely
Sharen says
I love the blue!! It’s elegant and calm.
Jo says
Blue blue blue! It’s stylish and calming. If you need to justify the little extra it costs, you won’t need to replace it for longer as you won’t tire of the colour.
mribaro says
You say Jeremy likes stripes and you like florals. Check this out how Nicole Balch from makingitlovely.com merged the two patterns. http://makingitlovely.com/2010/06/14/this-is-what-our-bedroom-looks-like/ I think it looks WONDERFUL! Maybe you could still “marry” your taste and your husband’s.
Also, which color do I think looks better? I’m a kind of girl who likes to change decor with seasons, so in winter I like to be surrounded with warm colors (reds, oranges, yellows, browns…) and in summer I prefer cooler tones (pale blues, whites…). In your place, I’d probably try to find similar bedding in a cheaper store, and buy two sets, one in red, one in blue.
Shelly says
I personally like the red. We have red/gold in our bedroom and I think it looks nice, gender neutral and somewhat romantic 🙂
Amanda @ Out of Square says
I have to vote blue! I love red as well but it has always seemed like more of a guest room color. I think the master bedroom should be like a retreat, almost spa like. This is where you and Jeremy go to unwind (he he) and get away from the world. The blue is calming and instantly soothes you in my opinion. I know, a little dramatic but color is a serious issue! 🙂
Kasey says
Blue for sure.
The red is nice but it reminds me of Autumn and the Holidays, and there is nothing wrong with that [never hurts to have color co-ordinated bedding for the seasons right?], but the blue seems more seasonal in the sense that it goes with ALL seasons 🙂
Christy says
I love the Blue. It looks so serene and peaceful for a bedroom. Good luck deciding! 🙂
Mrs. Foot says
Blue, for sure!
Jane says
Blue – without a doubt!!
And just wanted to say that the description in this story is HILARIOUS!! I just got home from a netball final which my team lost, so I was feeling pretty low but you’ve totally cheered me up!
Thanks
(and I hope you pick blue, you don’t want too many similar things in the house and it will make your room not feel like the guest room. I guess if you want a change you can always sleep in there a few nights!!)
Aimee says
HA! Stoo-pid is as stoo-pid does and I post this in the Wuslu giveaway post first in case you haven’t noticed. So sorry!
Both are gorgeous and I LOVE red, but last Mother’s Day, my family bought me a new comforter that I had been eye-balling to go on my new Pottery Barn bed that my hubby had made me off of Knock-off Wood. The bed is white and my bedding is a gray/blue/green/khaki plaid with tiny orange/yellow/green flowers and it’s perfect! I’ve had red for years and didn’t think I’d ever go away from it, but now, I’m thinking I may never go back to it in the bedroom. The blue is absolutely peaceful and every time I go in my bedroom I want to take a nap! It’s unbelievably cozy. So, I guess what I’m saying is that blue is my vote.
Lindsey says
I like the blue but I’m a fan of the more calm relaxing bedroom.
Cecilie says
Blue all the way even if red is one of my favorite colours. The blue i calm and soothing. Love it.
Sammy says
I prefer the blue one – don’t love the blue quilt though 🙂
Breanna says
The BLUE ONE! It’s just gorgeous!
jennifer f says
does it include sheets? If not, where/which sheets are you going to get? My hubby and I have been debating about a king for the longest time (right after we got married and registred/bought all this queen bedding he decides he wants king). For now, until we burn a whole in our queen sheets I’m sticking with queen.
Oh…and I love both…but I’ll go with the masses and say blue 🙂

Blue!!
Debbie says
Blue.
Stacey says
Am I allowed to say neither?
I LOVE red…but more as an accent color. (I have red as an accent in my master.)
Blue is not my favorite now, though I used to have lots of it in years past.
Though I really like the pattern, this red is a bit overwhelming, and the blue looks washed out. I love Pottery Barn and have one of their quilts on my bed. But I def agree with the poster who said to try and find it in the store to check color and quality! This is a big purchase and you don’t want to be disappointed when it comes in the mail.
Just my *humble ;)* opinion…
And…I love your blog!
Summer says
My vote is for the blue. The shade is gorgeous and serene. So peaceful. Welcoming. (I think the red is kinda loud for a bedroom)
Wendy says
Blue!
Kristen says
First, the “blue” looks greenish to me.
I LOVE blues for bedrooms and it would be very soothing. But, the red is very dramatic and would give you more of a wow factor.
I’m sure you’ll make anything beautiful!

margie says
BLUE!! I dont like the red at all, I feel its too much for a bedroom.
Suz McA says
blue!
Sangeetha says
Blue definitely, its a bedroom so the red would be too much and the blue looks like it can easily accept wamer accents anyways. So BLUE it is.
Maria says
BLUE!! The biggest reason to me would be that the red is too similar to the other bedroom, and I think you will have more fun re-decorating if it is totally different!
Courtney G says
Definitely blue!! 🙂
Jessica says
BLUE!! I find it much more soothing and relaxing. It seems like you’re in a “red phase” right now, with adding the red to the second bedroom also, but do you think that you might get sick of it in a year or two? If you’re going to be spending that much money on bedding, I would get the color that you are SURE you are going to like in 4 years…
Nikki says
Blue!
Amy says
I love the blue! It looks more calming than the red and my bedroom is blue with hints of gray and off white so I am a little biased.
Maggie says
Not sure if I even need to vote here because I am in total agreement with the overwhelming majority. BLUE! It is a beautiful calm and soothing color. And I can’t imagine not picking the bedding I really, really wanted over only a $30 difference. Pocket change!

I vote Blue… looks very spa oasis, something you can just sink down into, chase the daily stress away.
We have blue too in our MB… love it! It’s very relaxing/decompressing to come home to at the end of the day.
BUT – I am always craving Burnt Orange, like Red it just pops, brings the spice to the MB.
Vote is still Blue.

Blue! love your blog, first time commenting!

The blue! But I love blues over red. And if you ever want a pop of red in there you can easily add some red shams for a few months with the blue.
Mike @HA says
This is honestly a little creepy, we were in the EXACT same situation a few months ago. We couldn’t decide on a duvet because Katrina wanted soft and feminine and I was doing my best to hold on to some masculinity. We ended up with a compromise, it’s still a little girly but at least it’s not pink and yellow. You can kind of see it in this picture: http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_dOTkIs8mRSc/THv6oUZc7gI/AAAAAAAAAPw/wocllmyUPsE/s1600/IMG_6919.JPG
Also with the king/queen deal, we have a queen but on our honeymoon we stayed in kings all week long. It was the first time we had spent the night together and we got super spoiled with the kings. We went home and have been grumbling ever since about how small queens feel!
Good luck with your duvet shopping!
Amanda says

Definitely the blue. It’s more calming for a bedroom.
Heather says

Blue all the way! So much more calming.
Sarah says
I have to vote BLUE! Our first bedroom set was red, and although I liked it for a while, I got sick of it rather quickly. I switched to a blue/brown bedding set, and could not be happier. In my opinion, blue is more versatile. Red is little more challenging to work with if you want to find complimenting pieces. They have to be close to that exact red. Blue is a little more forgiving. As well as being a soothing and relaxing color. Especially if you already have red in other rooms. Go blue!
Crystal says
Blue! It just looks so blue-green and dreamy (both in the bedroom-sleeping-dreaming kind of sense and also in the “oooooh that’s so DREAMY” sense). Plus it goes fab with the white/off-white/cream you have going on. And as someone else said, you’re spending $500 with either selection.
Alanna says
I vote for the blue as well! I also think it’s more calming for a bedroom and is a good balance of the florals for you and masculine color scheme for the boyfriend. Can’t wait to see the finished room!

I say blue for sure! Normally I love red (I have a ton of red in my home), but something about that red pattern bugs me. It reminds me of Christmas or something. Which is fine if you want to look like Christmas year round :s. The pattern is lovely in the blue though…. very calming and sophisticated. I think it just matches the rest of your home better too!

Blue! Do you know the care instructions? If it’s dry clean only that might be something to think about since it will be more of a pain to clean and more expensive. Plus with a baby, I know I’d freak out if I spent $500 on bedding and got baby throw up on it but that’s just me 🙂

I vote for the blue one its beautiful!
Lisa says
Blue….but I feel like that is a truck load of cash for bedding, so if you are going to splurge on it, make sure you and the boy LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it and don’t just pick based on what got more votes. I agree with Margaret about double checking the care instructions, for my life dry clean only bedding would be a deal-breaker.
Jess says
Blue for sure!
Cynthia says
The blue. Much more soothing for the bedroom, helps for unwinding at the end of the day. But maybe you could find cheaper versions of both at Home Goods or something so you could afford 2 looks – 1 for winter & 1 for summer?
Jenni says
I love the blue!
Jeanette says
I prefer the blue. BUT having to repaint is a pain! This is rough! 🙂 Good luck.
Jessica J. says
Blue. So calm and romantic.
Tracy says
Blue, hands down.
Shelley @ Green Eggs & Hamlet says
Blue.
I love blue, especially for a bedroom. I used to have a red bedroom and it felt very heavy to me. I think the red is better left to the guest room where you only see it occasionally rather than every day.
Also, did you know that WordPress offers a poll tool so that you can just have people click on their selection and you wouldn’t have to manually tabulate the votes (even though the voting seems to be overwhelmingly blue)? Might be helpful for future votes.
Allison says
Blue because blue is my favorite color. I’m biased because I hate red. And you have a red bedroom already! Exactly. Also, the price is negligible. They are both in the $450-500 range. Almost the same. I wouldn’t let that be a selling point against buying the one you want. Both are expensive, almost equally so.
lacey says
Blue is gorgeous!
Amber says
Definitely go for the blue! It’s very soothing and such an “in” color right now, but classic at the same time.
Megan says
Blue, fo shizzle.
Melissa says
Blue. Why? The savings isn’t enough to make a huge difference. You already have red in another bedroom. Blue is more soothing. And the pattern is prettier is blue.
Erika says
def. red! i have a white bed and similar bedding in the blue and i think the red def. looks better, especially w/a white bed 🙂
Sarah@StyleandCentsability says
Blue!
1. You already have a red BR. Life is too short, mix it up!
2. Blue is serene and calming in a BR.
3. 30 bucks is nothing if you are paying that much anyway.
Jenn says
Blue! The red is beautiful, but not calm enough for a bedroom…
Danielle Bower says
BLUE! It will go fantastic with brown furniture and more fun to decorate with.
carrie @ brick city love says
Blue (although on my monitor it looks more blue-green, which I really like!). That said, I’m not really a ‘red’ person when it comes to bedrooms. Orange, maybe. Red, not so much. GL!!
Erica says
Blue! It looks so restful… and I love the subtlety of it.
K (Barking BabyMama) says
Let me start by saying that a. I do not really like blue – aqua, turquoise, any variation with some green in it I’ll take, but just blue blue usually equals blah to me – BUT I actually prefer the blue. The pattern is more subtle in the blue. But mostly I prefer it because it’s so much more soothing. I love color. LOVE. My kitchen is apple green. My living room is red and varying shades of brown and white. But after three tries at decorating my bedroom with lots of vibrant color, I realized that what I wanted for my bedroom was something calming, a place of peace, a haven for my man and I, so I went with neutrals with a couple pops of bright green (my peaceful color) and love it. All that to say, I would pick the soothing color. You can see my bedroom here if you’re interested (still need to remake that tall lamp and hang up some frames here and there).

I generally vote for red, because I like the drama of red, but this bedding seems more pink with red accents, and if you are trying to protect your husband’s “man feelings”…pink isn’t going to do it for him…pink AND flowers. I think the BLUE meets that goal better.
I’d keep looking though for something less expensive…especially because it’s so light. …Accidents/life happens…please note…RED jello and RED popsicles are NOT good things to give to sick children. Stay away from anything containing red dye! Your carpet… furniture… clothing… and BEDSPREAD will thank you! (Experience speaking here!!!!)
Lonna says
To answer your question, Blue.
To totally not answer your question, but to give my two cents: Don’t get either! If you need help deciding, then you have yet to find “the one” and in a few months when “the one” pops up elsewhere for what will most likely be WAY LESS MONEY you’ll kick youself! I’d find a much more cost effecitive filler, like 2 Cal. King sheets sewn together to create a douvet, infact you might find sheets you like more and end up saving a ton in the end! If these were not so spendy I’d just say Blue, but I don’t care who you are that’s a lot of moo-la to drop on fabric that you’re going to end up feeling like you have to keep forever because it was so spendy! Just my two cents though…
Leah says
Blue! You can do so much more with that color than the red.
Trista says
BLUE, because it is my favorite color. But also because it will offer more blog posts.
If you choose the red, your only blog post will be, “Hello, I got a new bedspread.”
If you choose the blue, you’ll have two, “Hello, I’ve changed my bedding.” AND “Hello, I’m painting my bedroom because the fans of my blog want to know my opinions on painting a bedroom.”
🙂
Jessica says
I am partial to the blue with only a $30 price difference.
Lauren says
Love the blue! Plus, it’s nice to have some variety from room to room.
Emily @ NewlyWife says
Blue! It’s more calming, which is what a bedroom is supposed to be. Plus, if you really miss the red, it could be a good accent color with a throw pillow, throw blanket, a piece of art — maybe just updated your paint swatch art? — and who knows what kind of small animal you can find to spray paint red. 🙂
Lauren says
Neither! I mean, between the red and the blue, I get more of a Country French feel from the red (and you’re house doesn’t seem that way). But, one of my favorite things about your blog is your ability to do so much with so little (dumpster diving, goodwill finds, garage sale throw-a-ways, etc…) and everything always looks so good! Wouldn’t it be that much more exciting if you were to take the PB bedding and use it as an inspiration and recreate the whole look for under $200? So when it gets messed up or you get tired of it, you’re not married to it because of the price! I mean $500 for bedding!! Sheesh! (maybe i’m just cheap, but it seems a little nuts!)
Sugar says
Blue all the way.
PS For us, the Hubs got the manly looking duvet and I added some fun pillow covers. Compromise.
georgia says
OMG how expensive is that bedding???? lol
I paid £65 on a duvet cover, 4 pillow cases from Next (is a popular good quality store in the UK) and i thought that was expensive…
Ummmm if your making me decided then… ummmm i say ….. uummmmmm BLUE. but with some punchy colours on the wall to make it less dull….

I vote RED!!!!!!!!
And you have less ”cons” for that option!!!
Amy W. says
Red! Both are beautiful but your persona seems way more red than blue, warm, firecracker, filled with love red!

I love the blue. I think you will be able to decorate with it more easily than red and if you want a pop of red for an accent it would still work with the blue. You might want to check out HomeGoods they have a blue set that looks very similiar to this one.

Sara says
I love the blue! It looks so relaxing! I don’t think that the price difference is that much if you’re paying that much anyway…so get the blue!:)
Diana says
Well, since you asked I would choose the red. Although I absolutely love blue for bedrooms – that red is really cheery and bright. Plus, money saved will buy you some more bacon.
On another subject – did you see the most recent copy of BHG. There are some really unique and yummy sounding bacon recipes.
Good luck!

I am thinking the blue although I usually love red but there is something refreshing about the blue.

I vote blue. That’s just me. I enjoy the floral look, but I always tend to lean a bit towards the masculine color pallet. Plus, it would be an extra smack of fresh to the new look.

BLUE! I love the blue cool tones. But I’m a cool tones sort of gal. Even though it is more expensive, it’s just ohh so pretty. But I would get it without the coverlet.. let that glorious floral pattern shine through!
PS, how dare you introduce me to Pottery Barns bedding tool while I’m suppose to be studying for my midterm. 🙂
Suze says
I say.. go to Homegoods, TJ Maxx or Marshall’s and buy one set in blue and one set in red. Seriously, for 500 bucks you could get 2 anywhere! Not to mention, babies and $500 bedding just don’t mix. They just don’t. :o)

Congrats on the new big bed – I am envious! Can you believe that we share a DOUBLE bed? Yeah, it’s cozy, so I am extremely jealous of your upgrade to King!
Also, I think you mean “dilemma”. (Sorry, just can’t overlook a spelling error in the post title!) Oh, and also, “exorcist”, not “exercist”!
Can’t wait to see pics of your new bedroom – I actually like both the blue and red, so I don’t think you can go wrong!

Definitely blue, especially with only a $30 difference. Of course I’m a little biased as those are the colors in my bedroom 🙂 Enjoy the king bed! I don’t know how we’d do it with anything smaller, I need my SPACE!
jody says
blue! i had a short stint with red bedding (red is my favorite color!) but in the end it made me feel too wild (and not in a good way) to have it in the bedroom. i do much better with soothing blues and greens.
Jessica says
Both are really beautiful but I vote for the blue. We have that soft blue color in our room and I absolutely love it, very relaxing.
Hannah says
My personal favorite is the blue, but then again, usually I’m not a fan of red. With that said and color aside, I’d still go with the blue due to the warmth factor. I find it is much easier to kick off the topic blanket during the summer months than to have to find another blanket to use on top of your current comforter/duvet. Plus, if you’re anything like my family, you don’t use the heater too much at night during the winter, but are more apt to use the a/c during the summer.
Jen says
my vote is for the blue one! it’s nice and soft and soothing.
Susan says
Blue!!!
Meghann says
BLUE, BLUE, BLUE!!!! All the way!!! I love red, but really dont like it in my bedroom! Its too much for me to look at before going to sleep. I feel its power… it makes me feel awake, alive not relaxed and cozy and refreshed. Blue does that for me. I have blue/grey walls in our room, with a cream and gold/brown modern paisley pattern. Love that. Its calming…
Good luck…

Definitely the RED!
Bethany says
BLUE! It’s so relaaaaxing for bedtime! I bought red sheets once because I thought they were sexy and unded up hating them later. Lol. Oops. Now we have all white bedding and I love it.
Liz says
Can’t believe I’m about to say this because I am normally a huge blue fan…but in this case, I really like the red! BUT–if you really prefer the blue and the only thing keeping you from it is repainting, then I say go with whatever you love. I wouldn’t even consider cost as a factor here because the difference is minimal once you are spending that much anyway–what’s a few more $? But I really do like the red.
Cheryl says
Your bedroom should be calming, relaxing and a sanctuary. Blue does that over the red. What’s a paint job, another DIY moment for you!! And, yes, $30 is peanuts in the scheme of things.
Dimple says
Blue for sure.
$400+ sounds alotta dough for me for a bedding set. well, am cheap 🙂
Tara says
I love the blue!
Beth says
I’m not a fan of red in general, so I guess I’m biased, but I love the blue. It’s so much more calm & serene. I’m sure all of these differing opinions are going to make a hard decision even harder. Go with your gut! 🙂
christel says
BLUE! It’s a calming peaceful place to make your Bower Snuggle Nest! (Red is no good. No good, I tell ya! Choose red for another room.) BLUE!
Eileen says
I’m a big fan of blue myself. Though I’ve heard red/purple are good bedroom colors (nice and romantic and such). But if the choice is THIS red and blue, I choose blue.

Hi Lauren,
Just to be honest, we probably wouldn’t buy it online…we would wait till it hit the outlet so that we could get it at a fraction of the price. And we would also try to get the coverlet at a cheaper place…there is no way that we would actually pay $500.

My vote is the blue…but a few years ago I found a duvet cover at Overstock.com or SmartBargains.com that was a light blue & white damask print on one side and stripped on the back. It was only $40 for a queen and it is hands down my favorite duvet…maybe you can find something similar. Good luck with the bedding dilemma!

Blue! I like calming colors in the bedroom (mine has whites and browns with the wall color “Green Tea” From Behr Paints).
Shiri says
I love both. I like the blue color more, but I would stay away from the velvety fabric. It’s a pain to keep clean and dust clings to it more than other fabric…

Hi, Katie! I really enjoy your blog — it’s interesting because of the content, but also fun and funny because of…well, you!! 🙂
I don’t usually comment (this if my first!), but you asked and I never miss an opportunity to give my opinion… 😉 Having had a little boy right around the same time you did (mine was born April 10th), I know you’re not slopping over with free time — I’d go with the red simply because it would eliminate the need to paint. I also like red better in general, but that’s just a personal preference. And this particular shade of blue seems a little too “Country Store” to me. Also, I would like to gently suggest that blue is vastly overdone in decorating…it just seems a little predictable to me. That being said, I can see why people choose it — it is a nice serene color.
I understand the struggle — it’s so hard to choose something you’re spending good money on and will have to live with for quite some time. Good luck!!
Katie says
Thanks Susie…I know that this is an old post but we are stilll struggling with the decision. Probably by the time we make up our minds, both options will be discontinued 🙂
