Somebody pinch me…this is the THIRD baby wishlist I have done. Three! As in, somebody in charge let me have three perfect (yup…I said the P word….it’s a mother’s right to whip that out) babies to keep alive. Somebody is gonna take the fall for that one. Seriously though…after the first two boys, you would think that there is nothing I could possibly need or want….which is partially true….I have everything I need. Really I do. But that doesn’t really make for interesting wishlist fodder.
It’s like what your dad tells you when you ask what he wants for Christmas….”Nothing Babydoll”. I get it Pops…you have that jar of peanut butter in your closet and the NFL Sunday Ticket thing on the tv….we all know you are set…but I am asking for things in the twenty to fifty dollar range that would put a smile on your face.
Well, just call me Daddy. I am sharing with you today all the things that would refresh my goody-stash-o-boy-stuff.
#1 – Marilyn nursing cover by UdderCovers
I’ve been using the same nursing cover for both boys and let me tell ya, it would have been really nice to have a spare. It starts smelling like sour milk after multiple sessions of nursing (hello spit up!) and so a quick wash is necessary almost every other day. Having another one in rotation would be really nice! (I always wait till there is a free or discount code and then give them away as gifts too!)
#2 – Gray Fur Photograph Prop by Newborn Photo Prop
I can not get over how fuzzy and perfect this gray fur is. It reminds me of a Viking baby. Except Jeremy doesn’t know how to sail. Sorry LJ. You still can wear the horny hat though 🙂
#3 – Duo diaper bag by Skip Hop
I have never bought a diaper bag. ever. I just never really found one that was just right style for the just right price. I wanted something that was part boy and part girl. That’s really hard to find. This is the hermaphrodite of diaper bags…I LOVE IT and it has the price tag that I can actually swallow.
#4 – Stripy Bandana bibs by Olive And Vince
Finally a bib that doesn’t ruin the entire outfit! Instead, this is one boy accessory that I can get behind. Looks cute and functional too! Oh and did I mention there was 71 different styles? Yeah. That’s a lot of shopping to be done.
#5 – Pure Baby Sling in Caribbean by Sakura Bloom
I have been on the hunt for this sling for a long long time. We used a Solly Baby wrap for Weston and I WAS OBSESSED. That might even be an understatement. By the way, Elle of Solly Baby just birthed a beauty and I have the biggest girl crush on her style so tell her I said hi if you are wrap shopping. I was converted with my one wrap to a full blown baby wearer. I would love to get this beautiful linen sling (good for hot weather climates to a certain age) and also another wrap for when LJ is a toddler….because like I said before…I’m a little nervous about carrying two (sometimes three) kids. This should help.
# 6 – Reusable Swim Diapers by The Honest Company
This is not the first time I mentioned these cute diaper covers. The whale one is just too cute for words. I might need them for both my diaper-wearing beach bums. Pun intended.
#7 – Grey Stripe Changing Pad cover by The Land of Nod
We like to keep the new baby in our room for the first nine months or so. That means we equip our bedroom with a pack-n-play and their clothes and a changing table to handle all the necessary baby functions. I think this changing pad cover would look quite nice with the rest of our room since it coordinates with our current duvet cover.
#8 – Natural Disposable Diapers by The Honest Company
I’m such a sucker for cute diapers. It makes my whole day of wiping poop off babies more enjoyable. I would buy some of those plaid ones for Easter and call it a church outfit 🙂 Seriously though, this company has been kicking booty and taking names…you should check out their natural products even if you don’t have a baby. There is also a free trial of goodies if you sign up. Click here to check it out!
#9 – Camo Moccasins by Freshly Picked
Everyone is jumping on the moccasin train and I am no exception. All aboard! Freshly Picked is the fabulous brainchild of Susan Petersen (who is one thrifty girl after my own heart and pours her heart into each pair of baby booties!) and they have 28 different styles of cute moccasin perfection. These camo ones are perfect for my little rednecks. Oh and did I mention the Kardashians like these? And Susan was on Shark Tank? One of our favorite shows? I may have been fist pumping the entire time 🙂
#10 – Boppy Newborn Lounger by Pottery Barn
Let’s just put it out there….this.is.genius. I was wondering when someone would create one of these! Of course, I am so obsessed that I made one myself…because this mama can’t wait on shipping since LJ could come at any moment (or when I forcefully kick him out).
#11 – Hero Baby Monitor by Snuza
I have tried several different monitors now…and each one has it’s own pros and cons. I am eager to try this one out because it really addresses my main concern….is the baby still breathing? It clips to the diaper and if the baby doesn’t move for a certain period of time, it first vibrates to stir the baby and then if still nothing, an alarm goes off. I think it would be so comforting because honestly the SIDS thing scares me the most…
So what am I missing? Anything vital to you mommies out there? Any new gear that I am blissfully unaware of needing as soon as possible? Anything life changing in the baby arena? I mean…besides the baby 🙂
Sarah says
Not sure if you have one, but the MamaRoo by 4Moms is amazing!
Kelly says
Sakura Bloom sling is amazing!! I loved it for my daughters first year. I loved the moby wrap too, but the ring sling was so easy to whip on and off in and out of the car. I also wrapped the extra tail fabric around the rings and loved that look. If you get it you have to wash it a time or two before using it so plan ahead!
PS the boppy lounger is available at target so you wouldn’t have to wait for shipping
Kristal says
ORDER THE SLING!! Best purchase I have EVER made for a baby, hands down. I loved my moby wrap with Isaac and I use several woven wraps and a boba carrier, but NOTHING can compare to the ring sling. Miriam basically lived in that thing for the first 6 months of her life.
Marybeth says
Oh, my goodness, you poor thing, I can’t believe you still haven’t had that baby. At least it’s not summer. Here’s a too a quick and easy labor!
Jenn says
Love your list! We had the Snuza monitor and decided to get rid of it within the first 8 weeks. We found that the alarm would get dislodged or the baby would move and the monitor would lose contact way too frequently. That alarm scares the heck out of you because you jump out of bed assuming something is wrong with your baby every. single. time. I couldn’t take it anymore! Everyone slept much better when it was gone!
Emily says
Awesome list! Have you tried the Honest Company reusable swim diapers? I am curious if they are allowed at the YMCA pools? Our Y has a strict policy of swim diapers, and these should be allowed, right? I have a 9 month old and with spring summer approaching, I might want to buy these!
Amy says
I have the Snuza Go! and it was a lifesaver. My second daughter was born at 33w6d and had severe lung problems at birth. When we brought her home, she was fine but of course, I worried. We used this for the first ten months (until the battery wore out) and it was the only way I slept. It was worth EVERY PENNY.
Rochelle says
You might want to check out the infinity nursing scarves, if you are looking for a new obsession! They have tons for sale on Etsy, but they seriously take 5 minutes to make! There are a million tutorials on the interweb, just be sure to choose a fabric with a bit of stretch and that isn’t see-thru (duh!). Enjoy your third! It’s the best chaos you could ever ask for! 🙂
Rebecca Joy says
Great list. I have the Snuza for my three week old son and love it. I knew I couldn’t just stay awake watching baby breathe like with my firstborn, so this was my biggest must have item. The company is now Levana though and the Hero is now called the Oma+
Jen H says
My husband bought the Sunza after our sweet girl was born 8 weeks early, and we were nervous about her coming home from the NICU without all the monitors we had been looking at for 3 weeks. It is awesome! It hasn’t ever alarmed in the 2 weeks we’ve been home, but it does make me feel more comfortable and sleep more soundly. This and the video monitor take a lot of the worry out of having a preemie.
Jill says
I just received that diaper bag as a gift and holy moly it is the best thing ever! (In the eyes of a still pregnant first timer!) get it. Get it. Get it! I’m so glad to hear that you loved your solly wrap as well, I saw Emily Henderson using one on Instagram and bought one based on cuteness alone! 3 more weeks and I will get to put it to use!!
MC says
Hi Katie – last year we discovered the ipad app Baby Monitor 3G – $4 for each phone and considering we could copy onto my husbands ipad – we had three devices that could be used for monitoring at only $8 total – it even had video, you can still use your phone for everything you normally do, and can go further than regular monitors (although we didn’t go farther than neighbors but regular monitors couldn’t make it through our stucco walls and generally sucked). We saved so much money with this! I recommend it to everyone since it works so well:> It doesn’t have the baby sensor deal that can notice if baby stops breathing…I guess we just prayed all is well and are grateful for 3 healthy babies:>
Best wishes with you these last day(s) – enjoy these anticipatory moments!
Heather says
I just bought Honest Companies pre-natal vitamins and I LOVE them (not pregnant, but might as well take them so when the time comes I’m ready). So so easy to take and keep down and no nausea from them at all. I was previously taking a vegan one that was really good, but this one is much better in my opinion. I love it. I also bought the toothpaste, dish soap and dishwasher pods. All of them are definitely recommended.
April says
Do you use white noise. I didn’t with my first but it’s been a life saver with our second. We love our sound machine! I love those bandana bibs!!
bex says
Dude. You totally just sold me on the Solly Wrap and the Snuza. I’m on baby #2 (due in June!). I used my Beco Gemini with my daughter, but am thinking that, with the Wrap and the Beco, hubby and I can wear both kiddos. The wrap looks like it would be SO much easier to use with new baby while I manage/chase the 20-month-old. And the Snuza? I wasn’t as paranoid with Lil about things like SIDS as I am with this baby. We keep them in our room for the majority of their first year, but this will give me a whole new level of security.
April says
Scarves make great nursing covers! Plus they go with your outfit and it’s not like a big neon sign saying “hey look over here! I’m nursing!!!!” I finally figured it out when my son was almost one. Wish I’d figured it out sooner. I used it at a wedding and people were talking to me and had no idea. It’s awesome!
Anna says
What a great list! I LOVED our snuza. My only complaint is that sometimes with our cloth diapers it would give use false alarms when it slid to the side. We started using our honest diapers at night and never had a problem again. I wish I should have used a ring sling, used a moby when she was wee little and she lives in the ergo now but ring slings are sooo fancy looking.
Meghan says
We loved our Snuza! If you are going to use it as frequently as we did (i.e. had it on day & night not just when sleeping) I would recommend getting a back-up battery. Because those few nights when you are waiting for the shipment to come are unbearable, and we had a tough time finding a replacement at regular stores (even batteries plus didn’t have one that would work)!
Annie says
I just have to say it…that furry blanket photo looks like a baby emerging from a furry va jay jay to me.
Sara says
I make nursing covers just like udder covers! I’d be happy to make one as a gift for baby boy! https://www.etsy.com/shop/TheKeenBean?section_id=14150775&ref=shopsection_leftnav_2
I’m currently 34 weeks with my 2nd and agree that having a spare would have been beneficial. Going to make another for myself this time around!
Katie says
Just have to chime in and say we LOVED the snuza monitor. I swear it was the only reason I could sleep at all. Be warned, it can slip some, especially once baby can move, and will go off and scare the piss out of you. I found making sure my LO had a onesie on REALLY helped. And it does work when it matters- it went off one night after my daughter learned to roll over and when I went in to check on her, she wasn’t breathing. Its possible she would have moved her head in another second and been fine, but I’m so glad that I didn’t have to take that chance. Congratulations on LJ!
Alyssa says
Fantastic wish list!! Oh and I wanted mention that Kimmie from sugar and dots, now called hello mess makes some adorable and customizable moccs! Even ones with fur!! I have a pair for my son and I love them:) I don’t know her and wasn’t asked to tell you about her, just thought if throw out another option for you. Helping out a fellow blogger/mom is something I’m sure your happy to do:) I sure hope LJ makes his appearance sooooooon!
Leigh says
That bag has been on my list for a year. I love that skip hop bags work so well for carrying baby, toddler and/or preschooler stuff. I am loving my. Ring sling with my third and once I figured out nursing in it. Brilliant. And the tail is so built in cover. Chech out the itzy ritzy infinity scarf cover too.
Katie t. says
I could get down on all of these for baby #2! I really want a Tula carrier for my next babe so I can back carry. I just think that would be so easy! I had a moby wrap for my first and never felt secure enough, so I am thinking that would be a little more sturdy. I also have wanted one of those newborn boppy pillows! Life savers! And one last thing… The snuza! We had an angel care monitor for our first and the false alarms at 2 am are enough to kill a person, snuza sounds like a much more reliable/accurate option!
Eleanor says
We used the Snuza Go! with our second (had the angel care bed monitor with our first). The monitor is worth every penny! So much peace of mind! They have great customer service. About 6 months in ours had a defect where it started cutting itself on while it was off & sitting unattended. Then the alarm would sound, of course. They replaced it free of charge & quickly! We used the monitor for the first 8-10 months. We took a break from it but then we are back to using it for some peace of mind bc at 22 months old she’s taken to wanting a pillow in her crib to sleep. It really helps her sleep but boy does it unnerve me at night! So putting the monitor back on her has helped me :). Good Luck! Hope you deliver soon!
Catherine says
I had a baby monitor that had a sensor pad under the mattress and an alarm would go off if it couldn’t detect breathing. That alarm did go off just once and of course I will never know what might have happened but I loved that thing because the whole SIDS thing scared the crap out of me.
Sarah says
Just bought a Snuza after reading this & set it up for expedite shipping for Wednesday! Lol! My second son turned three months on Friday & I’m just as paranoid with him as I was with my first. Excited to try it out!
Jen says
First, have to know how you made the boppy nest!
For me, with #2+ the Itzbeen pocket nanny timer was a lifesaver! Timers for food, diaper, sleep and medicine, plus a L/R tracker for breast feeding. Really helped manage mommy brain and made sure I didn’t forget about something. Also very helpful when I asked someone else to help, could tell them to feed every 2.5 hrs, don’t forget about meds or diapers, etc. Very helpful when you can barely remember to eat and shower yourself!
Good luck, sending labor vibes your way!
lisa says
Skip hop is the best! Its like the swiss army knife of diaper bags!
HeatherM says
Thank you for this! I’m finalizing my baby shower list this week, our showers are in 3 & 4 weeks, and we are due in. 9 weeks. I was registered for the angelcare monitor because it was the only one I’ve ever heard of. But I was nervous about the recall. After reading the fantastic reviews of the Snuza, and realizing how great it will be for traveling and sending to the babysitter’s house, I registered for that one instead. Thank you!
Katie says
HAHAHAHA! Now that is all I can see!

We do with both the older boys but usually as newborns they just have the fan noise in our room. We will probably do the white noise sound machine for LJ when he gets in his own room though!
xo – kb
Katie says
We haven’t yet. I should have tried them out last swim season but just never got around to it…and I do not know if they are allowed at YMCA pools (we don’t have a Y membership). It wouldn’t hurt to ask!

We have one and it was the first thing that I wanted in our room when we started unpacking all the newborn gear!

Love this. That bag is just too sweet. It doesnt scream baby! And I’ve never seen that monitor before. Totally pinning that for future use!
Emily @ Life on Food says
I love love love Honest company. I don’t have kids so I don’t do the diapers but I admire all of the cute decorations from a far. I order all of the beauty and cleaning products.
Kasey McCoy says
Loving those little swim diapers! Have you thought about {or tried} cloth diapering?
Also the furry photo prop is a Flokati rug 😉
elle rowley says
You are too sweet! Thanks so much for the kind review and sweet comments. SO excited for your sweet baby to arrive. I am happy to report that even though you’ve already done it twice, three could not be any more magical had it been the first. xo
Lindsay says
Head’s up on the Land of Nod cover – they’re not the standard size, so if you get one, make sure you get the changing pad from them too (or else get over wanting it to fit well!). That being said, I bought mine (both the cover and the pad) from there and it’s the nicest made prettiest thing I’ve ever purchased with an intent to put a dirty diapered infant on. 😉

Have you seen the kid president video about his letter to babies on their first day in the world? How timely! Get the tissues!

I loved that bag so much the first time I saw it, had to have it!! 🙂
I’m a first time mom so this is all new to me- I’ve been doing a lot of research on the “SIDS monitors” because I’m just worried they’ll scare me more than help me? But also worry that I’d be missing out if I didn’t have one? I Came across this link today that I thought was interesting… So I’m sharing. http://www.slate.com/articles/life/family/2014/02/mimo_and_other_smart_baby_monitors_don_t_protect_from_sids_so_what_are_they.html
Seems like safe sleep environments is enough to really prevent SIDS? But the Snuza does look intriguing! Head officially spinning! 😐
Julianne says
You made one of those pillows for a newborn? I would totally do that! In between you know, corralling the 2 boys you already have, and birthing the third one who is taking his sweet time, I’d love to know how you did it!
These look like such practical items to have, and on a reasonable budget. Thanks for sharing 🙂

which bottles ,sterilizer do you use? Any reccos… gal.. U should be a pro on this with baby no 3 🙂

Love those bibs!! My friend has an etsy shop where she makes those! They are so cute and super affordable! I haven’t bought one of those yet, but I have bought scarves from her in the past and they are beautiful and good quality! https://www.etsy.com/shop/EvelynsShoppe?ref=listing-shop-header-item-count

I have both the Snuza and Angel care. The Snuza is a must have. We had many more false alarms with the Angel care.

Check out the NuRoo nursing scarf (their babywearing shirt is really cool too!)! You have to watch the video to see how cool it is. And because I love where I work (and free shipping with orders over $35), here is a link for the nursing scarf from Itsy Bitsy Bums: http://itsybitsybums.3dcartstores.com/NuRoo-Nursing-Scarf_p_1125.html

We have the Snuza Go! and I couldn’t live without it. It has only fallen off of our daughter once in 7 months! I give them to all my friends for their baby showers. It is a complete lifesaver and has really allowed my husband and I to sleep much better not worrying if our daughter was breathing.
The Newborn Boppy lounger is also a must have. We used ours nonstop until Reese started rolling and sitting on her own. It was a great place to set her for a moment while I was cleaning or doing laundry or whatever. The Mamaroo, bibs by bananasboutique (bandana and the regular style), and the Glow Seahorse rounds out my must haves for new mommas! Congrats again!
Kim says
FTM. I have that diaper bag. Love it!
Lindsay Butler says
Did you use a tutorial for the Baby Lounger, or did you do it from scratch? I would love to know how you made one… since I would like to sew one too!
Thanks!
Katie says
Just did it from scratch…but I will probably be posting about it next week. It was super easy!

One thing I have LOVED with both of my guys is the swaddles from Aden & Anais. They sell them on their website and at Target. I have both. The ones from Target are awesome (and cheaper) but are a bit smaller than the ones on their website. I used them for nursing covers all the time. The light weight muslin was perfect for summertime. My kids would get so hot and throw off other covers…oops! I flashed a few people early on! Here’s a link:

Best of luck with the birth of LJ! Can’t wait to see the little guy!!

You are gonna LOVE that newborn lounger! I had it with my first and it went everywhere with us! It is the most convenient thing in the world to have around! My baby napped on it, played in it, it is great for belly time, etc. It is my go to gift for baby showers! Every mom of a newborn needs one!
Lindsay Butler says
Awesome!! I will totally need your tutorial…I do not have the skill to “wing” things and have them turn out nice. 🙂
I hope you are feeling well!
Jen says
Don’t know anything about the Y, but my pool is really strict. I always use a disposable swim diaper with a cloth diaper cover over it. That meets our pool’s requirements. I use Bum Genius 4.0 cloth diapers, so I just grab a cover with no inserts. I’m sure any cloth diaper cover would work just as well. They do also make cloth swim diapers, I would plan to use a disposable diaper underneath if I had those, personal preference.
Katie says
Oooh I bought those for Weston and you are right – they are awesome! I am definitely bringing them to the hospital with us 🙂

It was so fun to read your wishlist!
I’m an avid follower of both Susan Peterson and Elle on Instagram & it’s fun to see bloggers that aware of their endeavors. 🙂
Have you ever heard of covered goods? I had an uddercover nursing cover for my first but wasn’t thrilled with the coverage if I needed to get up and walk somewhere while nursing. I found the covered goods nursing cover thru candykirbydesigns on Instagram & purchased one for my second baby. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it!! and it doubles as an infinity scarf and car seat cover!
So glad you had baby LJ and you are all back at home! It was fun following your birth on Instagram too!
Katie says
Ooh thanks for the recommendation…I’ll have to check it out!
