Deadlines. I hate them. I am very anti-deadline. Death to the deadlines!!!
But they are a reality for my blog…projects have deadlines…and I love projects. So Catch22 and I are good friends. The worst part about deadlines is that the fun family posts get pushed to the back burner. I hate that too. Fun family posts are like the bacon of my breakfast platter. They are the wild card in this game of Uno. They are the sparkle polish on my weird pinkie toenail.
And since we all hate Mondays, deadlines and my weird pinkie toenail (?)…I thought this would be the perfect time to share some of those photos that are sitting on the back burner getting…well…burned. You know, before summer is over and school starts again. doh.
The Petersiks already shared their photos from the trip to the Georgia Aquarium…but I wanted to share Will’s too…since this was his first official visit to the largest fish tank in the world.
There is no rhyme or reason to these photos…just thought I would drop some tidbits of info. sortof like those popup bubbles on tv.
These fish were huge…I wanna say a few feet long…they remind me of the fish we swam with on our honeymoon.
Will was brave enough with Daddy to pet the sharks and stingrays…which is funny because I am not. May Steve Irwin rest in peace.
There are different sections to the Aquarium…I don’t remember all of them…but each boasts different types of aquatic animals that live in that habitat…I guess I would know more if we had time to read the signs and the labels…which I don’t in an effort to keep Will out of the water.
The kids get along splendidly. We expected the screaming and crying and the not wanting to share and the personal space issues…so for them to interact at all was only a plus.
Will is nowhere near as smart as Clara. The girl is like Einstein. I expect the cure to cancer from her. Or that she is the next Miley Cyrus. So to see a photo where Will is trying to show her something is funny to me. It’s like me trying to explain a knock knock joke to Tina Fey.
The coolest thing in my book about the Aquarium is that they have whales. Huge, milky white beluga whales. They are intoxicating to watch. So playful and happy.
Will is a tall one. I never notice until he’s standing next to someone else that is also above average (Clara’s tall and skinny too)…and then I am reminded that he has some length to him. No thigh meat…but the kid is long.
In order to see the penguins up close, the guys crawled through these long tubes with the kids. Just seeing these tall men in the tubes as the tweens and toddlers swarmed them was funny enough. But when the kids decided to do a hug exchange, we all were laughing. Clara decided she wanted a Jeremy hug…and so Will, defeated by a girl, did the only logical thing and got one from the other dad in the tube…John. Would that count as Parent Swinging?
I think that is a whale skeleton…I could be wrong. But I love bones. That’s weird to say outloud.
I tease Jer about his bromance with John…so it’s only fitting that we get a ‘partners’ photo.
The lunch was fairly uneventful…except for a few trays of food on the floor and a cup o water in the highchair accident. Nothing out of the ordinary. Sherry offered to let Will wear Clara’s spare pants. Jer is sensitive about Will’s clothing…as in, I get a stern look when I cross dress the little guy…so Will stayed in his damp shorts and Clara’s jeans with the embroidered pockets stayed in Sherry’s bag. I don’t ever want to forget Jer’s face when she pulled them out though…it was hilarious.
We actually lucked out when it came to the Dolphin Tales show…it is new and I didn’t know what to expect. So the boys went inside to save us some seats and the kids and Sher & I stayed out near the tank that held the dolphins. If you can do this with little ones…do it. Sitting still with people surrounding you is not what toddlers do best.
Plus, this is the only part of the dolphins that you can get pictures of…so get there a little early and save seats.
This may be my favorite photo of Will & Clara to date…I love the similar body language and the look on their faces. I can just imagine the captions for this one….Will is saying “Your mom makes you do this stuff too, huh?!”
After the show (which was amazing…what with the singing and the dolphin tricks and all that)…we finished up the rest of the sections…
Just beautiful…
Wow.
Things you don’t know about the Petersiks….John is one of the funniest people….like ever. And Sherry is a spitfire…but so gracious and kind and understanding. They are very professional on the blog….it’s their business afterall…but in real life, they blow their blog-versions-of-themselves out of the water. Seriously. I mean that in the best possible sense…they are amazing and fun people that we are so blessed to have in our lives.
I love that couple taking thier own photo on the right. I don’t know them…but I love them. I hope this was their first date an one day they get married and have fish-loving babies.
The Ocean Voyager is the last section we went to and it has the GIANT tank and the tunnel you ride through.
The fish all look prehistoric and scary.
A little shadow dancing 🙂
that last one is a bit creepy, eh?! Overall – good stuff. More to come of personal back-burner pics. Plus, I owe you guys side table and console table plans and what we did to our kitchen so far (we are tackling the heart of our home this month! Pray! Pray hard!) and what I’ve been dreaming about for the nursery for our little man 🙂 This is gonna be one jam-packed month!

Yay! I am so glad you posted these! We went to this aquarium when I was pregnant with our now 2.5 year old son, Canon. I was so proud of my photos then (I was just learning how to use my camera to its fullest potential). Now I can’t wait to go back, both for Canon and for my photo opportunities. Your jellyfish are stunning!

I know this has been mentioned before, but Will and Clara are going to have the cutest backyard DIY wedding ever.
Also, I really enjoy the personal photos, as my husband and I are amateur photographers- they give me great ideas on how to shoot – and I just enjoy seeing ya’lls crazy antics 🙂

That aquarium looks so amazing! Love seeing all the Will & Clara pics too! I can’t wait for all your other posts this month, especially the baby nursery ones! Squeee!

Hooray for a jampacked month!! I feel like I’m in a nesting craze and I’ve been throwing it up all over my blog with nursery stuff and whatever, and I know you’re pretty much right behind me so I can’t wait to see it all. I’m due in early Sept and I feel like I’m getting that crazy rush to be “ready”. Which, since this is kid#2, I know better than to reach for ready. More like, decorate because you can’t help it and you need a place for this kid to sleep. Then throw out all hopes of “ready” and hang on for the ride. That aquarium looks amazing, I haven’t taken the boy to the Monterey Bay Aquarium yet and haven’t been there since I was little so hopefully it’s half as good cause you know- GA, is well, far. Super excited for kitchen makeovers, we are almost done with ours, too. Something really satisfying about reno-ing a kitchen… can’t wait for updates!

Lovely pictures. I heart aquariums. Mainly because there are something to do that has air conditioning!
In regards to keeping track of the info – you can also snap a picture of the plaque. That way you don’t have to read it or try to memorize it, but you can have it later if you want.

Sort of irrelevant to this post but I say this T shirt on lolshirts.com and I couldn’t help but think of you… Powered by Bacon 🙂 http://www.lolshirts.com/shirt/f49420fb3a5/powered-by-bacon-t-shirt

Your photos are AMAZING!!! Such great colors and sharp details! Beautiful!

The photo of Will and Clara in front of the blue tiled wall is the cutest thing I have seen all day!!
Jess says
You should totally change the post to say that Will and Clara got along “swimmingly”….it’s the perfect pun to replace “splendidly”. lol!!!
Oh, and as for Will not being as smart as Clara….not true, but I’m glad you said that. My little one is about a month older than Clara and the things that the Petersik’s share about Clara’s happenings knock my socks off. I was thinking the same thing about my little one not being as smart….and possibly behind developmentally….but not to worry!!! Clara is just GENIUS!!! lol. Our little ones are perfectly smart….and someday they can cheat off of Clara in math class….
Great photos! I’m jealous of the awesome friendship y’all have with the Petersiks. You are lucky to have them and they are lucky to have you! 🙂

BRING IT ON…the jam packed month, I mean. Love your projects!
Have been to the Aquarium about a year ago and there was not a dolphin show. Is it new? Worth seeing? Costly? Lengthy? I guess what I am asking….is it worth seeing?

Love the pics, especially of Will & Clara! The aquarium is amazing, I’ve been several times when guests come in town and it never gets old. The beluga whales are my favorite 🙂

I love this aquarium. We live up north, so we have only been there once, but I will say it is worth the trip to Atlanta.

Great pictures, Thanks for sharing! We are moving to Georgia in a few months and will put this on our list of things to do! I have been a Kansas girl all my life so hoping we adjust well!
Debbie @ Pink Texas Chick says
Wow, I’ve always wanted to go to Atlanta since the ’96 Olympics but I had no idea about this aquarium. I know my kids, hubby and I would totally enjoy it. Thanks for sharing your pictures and experience.
Michelle @ Lifewithacrazypup says
Looks like you had a fantastic time with the Petersik’s! Love how close you all are! I’m sure at least half of the blogging world is extremely jealous 🙂
Erin @ WriteTasty says
I wish we had a good local (-ish) aquarium around here. It always is simultaneously creepy and awing for me to see enormous swimming creatures all around! I’m looking forward to the busy month and especially your nursery plans for #2!
Katie says
Well it was included with our tickets so I assume it’s part of the standard ticket cost (we bought ours as a package through Zoo Atlanta because it’s way cheaper to bundle them) but the only thing to know is that you have to reserve your show time when you arrive at the Aquarium. It’s definitely worth seeing though…it’s part sea world show part broadway show 🙂

Hey There!
Thanks for sharing! I LOVE aquariums and I haven’t been to one since we moved to Florida (sounds like an oxymoron I’m sure), but I was expecting to hear about Amazing Aquariums here…not yet! Anywho, I think I want to go this aquarium now! LOL! I loved seeing all of the fun places you could go to get a better view! Cute pictures too!

My husband and I are taking a roadtrip to Atlanta at the end of September and the aquarium is the first place we’re going. This post makes me even more excited to head there. We’re also heading to Six Flags and 2 Braves game so it will be jam packed weekend.
Can’t wait to see what you’re working on for the new nursery!
Erin in VA says
Beautiful photos! Everyone looks like they had a fabulous time. You’re pretty smart to stay away from the stingrays. My husband was stung by one on his ankle in Hilton Head at the end of May. My 5 year old son was standing right beside him and is freaked out to go back into the ocean again.
Sam @ The Junk House says
Looks like you guys had a great time!
I’m with you on not touching the stingrays. Last time we were in Las Vegas we went to the aqaurium in Mandalay Bay. I bent down to touch a stingray and as my hand touched the water it freaked out and splashed. I screamed and accidently splashed myself with water as I jumped back. It was embarassing and I got a mouthful of germy, fishy water. Haha, never again!
Nina says
I agree! I actually am wondering what lens you used? I am about to purchase a new camera and am lens hunting as well!

Great pictures. Could you do a post on how you took aquarium pictures. I miss some of those posts. I know your super busy and can’t wait to see the updates!

Love the photos. Our local aquarium is not as magestic as this one!!

We swam with whale sharks in Mexico years ago. A-Mazing. We want to take the kids to this Aquarium to see them too!

Gorgeous! We opted out of seeing the aquarium on a trip to Atlanta…and now I’m wondering why. I need to get my 13-month old to the NE Aquarium stat!
P.S. One of the first things I checked after giving birth, after counting fingers and toes, was to make sure my baby girl didn’t inherit my weird pinkie toenail! She didn’t!!!

I have been reading your whole blog kinda backwards… (your my favorite blogger’s, favorite blogger) lol so I am kinda into your life, months ago …. whew that must be confusing… anyway even though I read everyday I FORGOT YOU WERE PREGNANT LOL because I read it awhile back … so I was re-excited when you just talked about the nursery !!!
And I wish that couple take their picture would get married, and see this someday… how cute would that be 🙂
Katie says
I used my 24-70mm for these…it’s my general everything lens…

Well, I wish I had some great piece of advice for ya on these…I used AV mode for most with the kids because I knew that they would be moving pretty fast. Other than that – it’s just knowing how to adjust your camera for lighting. Obviously I’m not the best at it because my white balance was crazy!

Looks like a fantastic trip!!
In regards to the “bromance”, I find it mildy ironic that it is Jer in the soda shirt..? That tends to be John’s M.O. Its like Jer woke up and said “I just don’t have anything to wear”, followed by John saying “I got just the thing!!” Just like women do!!
Sara says
You probably saw my husband in the Dolphin Tales show… he is one of the actors that plays the STAR SPINNER! I commented on Sherry’s post about it too. Hope you enjoyed the show!!!

I sent you an email (or so I thought I did) after your post on your July 4 festivities. If you didn’t get it or just didn’t have time to respond that’s ok I understand but I still wanna know if you’d sell prints of your fireworks pics you took? I’m dying to get amazing pics of fireworks & I’ve been looking for years. Thanks Becky

I love seeing the trip recaps and personal pics! You guys are all SO hilarious. I can only imagine how funny it gets in real life!!

Completely off this subject, but kind Odin the aquarium realm still…
Remember when you drew the jellyfish with the watercolor pencils.
Where, oh where did you find those pencils and are they Crayola brand.
Have looked for them…can’t find anywhere.
Thanks for taking the time!!!

WHALES??!!?! My little one is obsessed with whales, and all three Sea Worlds are mondo far from us. NEVER thought that an aquarium would have whales. Off to scour ze internet for a closer aquarium avec whales! **Virtual hugs**

This is OBVIOUSLY my kinda place 🙂
I am putting Atlanta up there in our vacation ideas just for this aquarium. It puts ours to shame!
Thanks for sharing Katie….when do we get to see another bump picure 🙂
Caitlin @ Desert Domicile says
Your photography skills are amazing! I’d love to have prints of the fish swimming in the coral and the orange/yellow jellyfish 🙂

They are Crayola brand…and I found mine a long time ago so I don’t rightly remember where but I imagine they still carry them at art stores 🙂

That’s awesome! The Star Spinner was really the big kahuna! You must be really proud!

haha…actually I think that the original joke was from last summer – John came downstairs in his first soda shirt and Jer was wearing the same one. We died 🙂 Jer actually owns about five or six soda shirts all before it became John’s M.O…hence evidence that the bromance was just meant to be 🙂

I haven’t been to the aquarium in several years. Next time we go to Atlanta, maybe we’ll go. We did go to the children’s museum. It was okay, I think it’d be more fun with kids that are 6 or so. Not much for the little ones.
