A Few June Pics

I’ve been working hard to be on top of 2013’s family yearbook.  For some reason (ahem20,000,000,000photos) I always get behind.  So this year, I have been making the attempt to do each month at completion.  Needless to say, I stink at it.  Like a middle school boy in a trailer after gym kinda reek.

I was wrapping up some June pics and found some favorites that I wanted to share with my in-laws (hey guys!  hope you are drying out!)…so this post is gonna be like Channing Tatum…not a whole lotta words but some of you may like to look 🙂

 

A happy little adventure in the woods.  We found a ton of mushrooms.  According to Will, if you smoosh them, you get your wish.  And we saw a huge pile of bricks that was ‘a house that a giant blew down’ and Weston discovered the joys of eating a biscuit…and a few small leaves….and a bug.   I figure he’s ready for Survivorman 2033.

    Will’s all, “So then we did this and that and the giant blew down the brick house”

    And I mean how badass is Weston being exploring the wilderness in a diaper? Bear grylls isn’t even brave enough to hunt bugs and mushrooms in a diaper!

  7. Beautiful pics! Looking at these makes me want to work on my own photography skills. Your kids are lucky to have their life documented in such a beautiful way – of course, girls would probably care about that more than boys someday! Their future wives will appreciate your handiwork. 🙂

  8. I can’t believe how alike your sons look! Both are very handsome. Also, I’m hoping that when I grow up (ha!) and have kids that I have half the photography talent that you have–it’s a gift!

  15. I absolutely love your photos! I have three boys (4, 6, and 7) and I find it’s always impossible to get them to pose for a sweet photo (a la pinterest) but the best shots I get are of them just being themselves, playing together, and having a real, genuine laugh together (probably at my expense, ha!). I love that your photos capture real life as it happens:) Your boys are too cute!

  19. Katie – you take such beautiful pictures. I know you’re self-taught, where did you begin and what editing software do you use? I’d like to create better pictures, but it seems like there is just too much to learn!! Any advise on where to start learning the very basics?

    I’m dying for an update on the big brother situation! How’s Will liking it? Has he adjusted well? Weston looks like such a sweetie!

  25. Man I wish I could photograph as well as you. Those pictures are AMAZING! Weston has the cutest baby expressions and the one with Will & the mushroom is my personal favorite.

  30. OMG your kids are super cute! They would be perfect paired up with my cute little girls! HA! Though I know Will is already betrothed to Miss Clara. 🙂
    I have the same goal – to stay up to date on organizing my pics in a photo book each month. It’s mid July and I have yet to even START for 2013. Oops. Though, I’ll cut myself some slack since I did a small little thing like have a baby in April. 🙂

  31. We’ve been living at the reservoir of late. I think Susanna (who’s just a bit younger than Weston) thinks we go there so she can sample the flavors of Mother Earth while her Daddy trains for triathlons. Speedy baby makes for some good times!

    Now if the water would warm up more, we might be doing some serious open water swimming training with her.

  34. Weston has got to be one of the THE CUTEST babies ever born! I am 5 months pregnant now and can only hope I have a son half as cute (and so happy!!)! (I just started reading your blog about a year ago, so I don’t remember baby pics of Will, but I’m sure he was equally cute!!)

  35. If you ever find yourself in Ontario, Canada and need someone to babysit your children, I volunteer as tribute.

    I do not promise that I will return them because Oh Em Gee so much cute!

  36. Ok, so I obviously think my own two boys are the cutest boys in the world (mom requirement of course). BUT- those two little guys of yours? SO ADORABLE and a very close second to mine ; ) Also, nakey baby in the woods? Awesome.

  39. That is so ironic (to me) that you would post about working on 2013 throughout the year! Because of you and YHL I have spent the past month putting together yearbooks of the past few years (I have 2008- 2012 done!) and I have been doing 2013 as I take the photos! It’s a lot less stressful to load them into the computer, put them in their designated folder (i.e. July 2013), sharpen and brighten them and then load them into MyPublisher! Great minds think alike! 😉

  42. Oh Katie — your boys just couldn’t be any cuter, I swear!! I gotta tell you – I have a little man born, 12/18/12, and I think that he and Weston could be twins, except for the blond, baby fine hair my Luke has! Its so weird to see your pictures cause they look so much a like! LOL! I wish I could send you a picture so you could see the resemblance!!

  45. I just started with a basic DSLR and my manual. I read it probably thirty times before things started clicking. And loads of practice and I use CS4 🙂

  52. OMG Katie Bower, that second picture of Weston makes me want more babies, and lots of them! My youngest is only 11 months old! He is getting so big so fast.

  54. Love your pictures!! I was inspired by your post several years ago and create photo books for each of my kids every year. What is your process each month for staying on top of this project? I have been waiting until the end of the year to compile it but it takes me a long time! Thanks!

  55. I sort everything in separate posts folders (like fourth of july 2013) and then if there is anything left over for each month I throw it in a ‘month’ folder. Then at the end of the month most of the blog posts have been edited but the month folders need editing. After all the editing is done, I import it all into MyPublisher to create the pages.

    I am not sure you are aware, but GA has a HIGH rate of lyme disease and co-infections, and this year has been very bad due to the mild winter we had. Do you take any precautions with the kiddo’s in the woods? Esp Weston being so young.

    I know first hand the effects of a tick bite. I also can tell you what life for a small child is like when they get bitten. My youngest was dx at 14 months and lives with the effects to this day.

    You may not believe how potentially deadly Lyme is, and the misconception you may have, but I urge you to research. I urge you to watch Under our Skin (free on Hulu and Netflix). Check out the Georgia Lyme Disease Assocation.

    Millions are suffering each year, children are robbed. My son was robbed, because of a bug sometimes the size of a poppy seed. Please don’t let you or your children become the next victim(s).

I love that you let your kids just be kids and not get so caught up about germs etc. My husband is super neurotic about hygiene and safety – pregnancy was a nightmare because he wouldn’t let me eat/drink anything or do any craft – so he gets grey hairs over letting our bubs roll around on the carpet of the local library.

    I’m more on your wave length and let my munchkin kiss our dog and eat his friends’ toys. Just let ’em be, right?? 😀 No fun to live in a bubble!!!

  59. So sweet! We are expecting our first little boy in August and I show my husband pictures of your boys and daydream that our guy will be half as precious!! A beautiful family!

  60. Love the pictures! Both of your boys are adorable…but I especially am loving the pics of Weston. He’s just too darn cute and I can’t believe how big he is and looks.

    I read your blog pretty regularly and I don’t think you’ve mentioned it but I could be wrong – what is life like with two babes?!? I have an almost 15 month old right now. Not ready for another one yet but people are always asking us when we’re going to have another one!

    Also, what website do you use to make and print your photo books?

  61. I have a dear friend with Lymes and IT IS TERRIBLE. We do checks everyday and we do wear deep woods OFF but I know that in those rare cases…it probably isn’t enough. I chalk it up to one of those things that could very well happen but in general if I live in fear of what could happen every day then we would need to be in a padded cell.

  62. haha…yeah, I was much more careful with Will…but now I’m so much more laid back just simply because I learned that the kids are gonna get hurt and sick at some point or another. I just try really hard to prevent the non-little-stuff…ya know…more than a little scuffed knee or a runny nose…and make it more of a priority to work on kindness and gentleness and love 🙂

  63. Two babes is amazing! So much better than I could have ever dreamt. It’s awesome. And I love that Will loves Weston (and vice versa) to the moon and back. Will always says that Weston is his ‘fwend’ and his ‘bruddah’ which basically means I am a mushy mess most of the time 🙂

  70. I love your blog and your sense of humor cracks me up, especially this post. I teach middle school in a trailer!! OMG how could you be so insightful. I didn’t know anyone could imagine the aroma of middle school students sitting in a trailer after PE, except a middle school teacher. Thanks for making me laugh.

  80. I love reading your blog and your boys are adorable, like seriously they should be in commercials. I just wanted to mention the pretty purple flowers. Those are musk thistle which is a noxious weed. I live on a cattle ranch in Kansas and take my word for it that you want to dig up those puppies and burn them. Once they get started in an area they will take over. I spend over a month every year out in the pastures spraying and digging them so when I saw your picture I just wanted to cry a little.

  81. I’ve been stalking your blog for-evah and I have to tell you, I scrolled through the pics and I seriously went back and re-scrolled at least 3 times until I figured out that “the boy in the blue shirt” was Wil! He looks so grown up!!

  83. Does Weston have auburn hair also? They are both SO cute. I have two auburn-haired, brown-eyed babies, too. Where does the red hair come from in your family?

  94. Your boys are very sweet! Does Weston have a reddish tint to his hair? My boys are the same age and my youngest surprised me with his red hair. Well…it shouldn’t be a surprise since I’m a redhead too unlike any of my family members!
