I guess we could have transitioned Will to a big boy bed.  That would have been fun.  NOT.

So instead, we just waited for a coupon to Babies R Us and we bought another crib mattress.  We figured that eventually (oh in about a year) we would need two (one for Weston who will probably still be in a crib and one for Baby Love after they get kicked out of the master bedroom) so technically it’s not a waste.

Yes.  Weston climbed up there all by himself.

So while we were at Babies R Us, we found something else….

It’s the Kelsey chair and runs about $500.  But it’s a recliner.  And a rocker.  And it’s cute as all get out.

Jeremy and I have both been scouring the internet looking for the right nursery chair.  We hit up outlets and regular stores and have been looking for something that both rocks or glides and reclines (that was Jeremy’s very specific request) and it had to be a solid color and clean lines.  Surprisingly, that is like a stack of onion rings….aka a tall order.  Since we didn’t spend any money on the crib in the room (it is borrowed from a friend) and we didn’t really need to buy any baby gear (we already had the boy stuff from Will), we felt like budgeting for a brand new chair was a good decision.

So why didn’t we use the one from Will’s room?  Well, he’s really quite attached to it…like sometimes prefers to sleep in that over his bed.

And if you recall, I got Will’s chair off Craigslist and reupholstered it myself.  It wasn’t perfect but it worked GREAT for the price (around $40 for the chair and $20 for upholstery supplies).  Jeremy felt like it never fit him right…which I understand because I did it for me and my legs are shorter and I went more for upright breastfeeding support (which surprisingly beyond his normal parenting skill set).

So after finding the chair, of course we didn’t buy it.

I mean…I only had one coupon and 20% off was $100!  So we checked out the mattress and in the receipt was a coupon for the following week.  Seven days later I trekked back to Babies R Us and ordered the chair.   While I waited, I thought I would take current pics of Weston’s room…

It’s not much to look at right now but it’s a start.

I literally can not wait to get more ‘baby’ stuff in here.  The baby things are so colorful and fun and really pop with a neutral background.

Obviously this space is far from done but it is good enough for a baby to sleep in.  Sometimes I get wrapped up in this world of ‘the room has to be perfect’ and ‘this space is not pin-worthy’ but the truth is…dude, this is an infant with a room of his own.  dude, this is an infant with an ENTIRE SPACE completely for him and his plethora of first-world stuff.  I am sure that folks in other walks of life would laugh at the prospect of a nursery being Pinterest worthy.

After the chair came in, I ran out to pick it up.  Thankfully it came in one big box (which usually implies less assembly).  As soon as we got it home, we unpacked it and put both pieces together (the back piece slid into the bottom piece and it was UBER easy).

And then this happened…

Seriously embarrassing.  But I have no shame.  Or energy.

And yes, I had to (poorly) photoshop my boobs because apparently when I fall asleep, things fall out.  Now stop looking for where the photoshopping was done 🙂

  1. The room is really coming together, I can’t wait to see it completed…no pressure. I’m loving where it’s headed! We recently extended our house and I still haven’t put things on the wall, so scary with a whole new space. I love seeing what you do with a fresh space, takes away some of the fear 😉

  8. That last picture is priceless! Kudos to Jeremy for capturing it. By the way, are you still able to nurse Weston even though you are pregnant? I nursed my oldest through my second pregnancy and am now tandem nursing them both. She really only comfort nursed since I didn’t have any milk after about the 3rd month. I was just curious if your situation is different. 🙂

  9. I don’t comment much but when I first started to read this post I wanted to comment on how much I wanted to reach through the screen and pinch that baby’s thighs. Then as I scrolled down I was going to comment on how every time I see your baby with his mustache binky I literally giggle out loud. But the last picture…wow. You two are O-U-T! Like, sawing logs-drooling out. Love it!!

  11. Oh girl I swear when I was pregnant with my third child I could fall asleep playing volleyball. I love it. I was supposed to be caring for my two other children and no matter what, I could not stay awake. This is priceless and common.

  12. We got a chair very similar to this 2 years ago and we love it! Does yours swivel too? Wouldn’t seem like a feature that would be that important but it is nice. Now with baby #3 on the way we are trying to figure out what to put in his/her room.

  13. I LOVE that chair. I’ve been kicking myself the last few weeks for going the cheap route of a walmart glider with separate footrest. Not sleepable. I’ve already promised myself for number two (who isn’t in the oven or even on the menu yet… er, I think you know what I mean?) I will be getting something that rocks/glides and reclines. And is uber comfortable.

  19. Oh my gosh it is so difficult to find the perfect nursery chair! I’ve found searching online to be especially tough. I may have to go to BRU and check that one out!

    I agree about the “finished nursery” concept too. Thank you for gently pointing out how it doesn’t really matter in the grand scheme of things. Makes those of us stuck renting for now feel better too. 🙂

  21. I totally understand what you mean! I have a two month old (and am nursing him and his older brother) and I swear I wake up every morning with my boobs hanging up. I never remember pullin ’em out, it just happens when you sleep, haha!

  32. Fantastic laugh, cheers. All that mountain, sorry mattress climbing wore the little man out. Even the tache fell out of his mouth.
    My niece walked at 7 months – by 10 months she was climbing and by 12 months she could outrun my mum which made nappy changes a bit tricky for mum.

  34. I think I just tried out that chair at Babies R Us and liked it a lot, but I couldn’t figure out how to recline it! There was no obvious lever and pushing on the back didn’t work either.

  43. The last picture is pretty much the best customer review one could ask for. My one demand is also a chair for the nursery for this baby. We had a hand me down recliner/rocker in our last one, and it gave me headaches every single time I used it. It got sold and now we’re on the hunt for a new one for when baby #2 arrives. Problem is the good ones are always so expensive. Good to know they let you use the 20% off coupon, though.

  52. I love the way Weston’s room is coming along! I totally love the brick wall! I don’t know how you have enough energy to get out of the bed. I am 34 weeks pregnant and I have a 15 month old and it is all I can do to throw a load of clothes in the washer and make a sandwich for lunch.   54. You have no idea how perfectly timed this post is for me! I am pg with #2, and we need a new rocker… We bought an Ikea chair the first time around and added a glider ourselves, and while it works great, it is too short and doesn’t provide any neck/upper back support. Big mistake, especially while nursing all night. So, I have been on the lookout for a glider with the exact features you mentioned that won’t cost us a grand. BRB here we come!

  55. The lever is on the inside of the right hand arm rest…right next to the cushion. I think they hide them now to make it look less ‘recliner-y’. When you want to unrecline, you are supposed to use your legs.

  56. I just stopped nursing. At about ten and half months, Weston decided to wean. My milk supply had been slowly dwindling (he’s a great eater but was never a comfort nurser) so when he started solids, the slow progression to weanship started. Then one day I sat down to nurse him to sleep and he fought me to get off and just have the paci. Then it happened every single time I tried to nurse. I could latch him on but then he would be done in five seconds and start crying and fighting. After two weeks of fighting, I just decided that it was probably time to stop forcing him. He never asked for it again.
    It was really sad for me because I am goal oriented and wanted to make it to a year but I also realize that he is bigger than most 1 year olds (he wears 18 month to 2T clothing at 11 months) so it could just be that he developed out of it. I thought it was a milk strike…but I was really consistent and realized that for him, he wants wrestling time more than nursing time…and I want him to not have negative associations with me trying to hold him close.

Anyone with kids, has been there, done that! I love that you will just put yourself out there for the internet. That is the most natural picture on a blog, I think I’ve ever seen.     LOLLLLL! Yep, it’s exactly what I did! When I read you’d photoshoped the picture I scrolled up just to see it. I didn’t notice it the first time around. But, I still couldn’t really see it, so I scrolled back down and promptly read the next sentence: “Now stop looking for where the photoshopping was done.” HA! I laughed-out-loud — perfect timing … comedic genius!!

Can’t wait to see what great ideas you come up with for the room… give yourself a rest though. The nurseries are more about the mommy than the baby anyways. Keep on rockin’ <3

And let me assure you…that mattress can’t balance like that…and Weston climbing up there and sitting is a very sarcastic joke (my husband is holding him from behind and you can kind of see his hairy head to the side of Weston). I would encourage you that the article did say it was a freak accident…so that should be comforting even through hurting for that family.

  74. He’s officially weaned. I tried to get through the ‘strike’ but I think that he was just done. We tried for two weeks after his first ‘fit’ and it never lasted more than about five seconds before he melt down and tried to throw himself out of my arms. In the end, I think we were both done because my milk supply was so pathetically low at this point and he was never a comfort nurser anyway. I am just glad we got to do it 10 and a half months…five of those being pregnant.

  75. Ha ha! That is exactly how I woke up yesterday morning after having to prop my stuffy 7 week old up all night. LOVE the glider. I swear I sleep in it more than in the bed.

    Quick question, where did you get the white cubby cabinet? I know Pottery Barn Kids has one similar to that, but I was hoping for a less expensive option for the baby’s room. Yes, he is 7 weeks old and his nursery is a blank slate. I figure it will be done by the time he is five. I guess that is what happens with your third boy. 😉

I LOVE how you can pull things together and it all seems so natural and effortless. We are starting the process of working on our 2nd, and while pretty much everything remains to be done (conception, first, natch, but also deciding shared room with our first or give up our guest room?), I am demanding a better rocker. We used the Ikea Poang rocker and I hate it with the fire of a thousand suns. For one, it doesn’t rock on carpet, at all. Grr. Thanks for pointing me to exactly what I wanted!

I am currently breastfeeding my 2 month old daughter and I fall asleep almost every time during a late night/early morning feeding, and a lot of the time I’ll be all out there (and God forbid my husband to snap a photo of that)! At least you were partially covered.

I wanted to check and see if there happened to be another manufacturer listed or a sku number (they can also look it up that way). I know it’s a long shot – but I would LOVE to order one for our nursery, too! 🙂

  111. I wish I had found a rocker like that when I was decorating my twins nursery! It would have been perfect, color too! Instead I ended up buying a cheapo IKEA poang chair that hardly gets used. And one of them still needs to be rocked to sleep. Whomp whomp.

    I was wondering how you get Weston to sleep. Does he take a pack or just go down w/o any help? I ask bc my daughter is the same age as him but she needs to be nursed to sleep and I’m dreading figuring out what to do once I try to wean her at 1 yr!

The boys would have loved to meet yours officially (we still play with that finger paint you sent ages ago so it would be so fun for Will to put a name to the face of the twins!).   122. Great post! Can you share how you got Westor or Will to sleep through the night and in their cribs after being a co-sleeper? I’m having a bit of a hard time making that happen with my 13-month old girl! She’d sleep till about 2AM and then wake up crying to come to our bed.

  125. We decided that the best way would be the time to transition when they start solids…so right around 8 to 9 months they usually start with more proteins. So that is why we choose that time. What we do is nothing really different than before. Instead of having a late night feeding, we would nurse that last time before bed (around 10) and then do the bedtime routine and instead of laying them down in the pack n play in our room, we would lay them down in the nursery. Then if they woke up, we would just do the whole bedtime routine again…rocking, praying, humming and down to bed. It worked for us because the reinforcement was ‘this is what we do before we lay in bed’ and so they got all the cues. Once we did the routine, we walked out…no more, no less. Also, you might want to be sure the temperature in their room is warm enough…the babies always are a few degrees warmer next to mom and dad and they like that.

  130. We do the normal dinner (he eats a ton) and then right before the bedtime routine, we do almond milk in a cup. He has been doing really great with that…sleeping from about 9 till 7:30 without needing anything. Our bedtime routine has been pretty much the same…but he has been transitioning to longer and longer afternoon naps and shorter morning naps so I think that we will be going to one nap soon so that might be helping with the nighttime sleeping.

  132. It’s a brown grey. In some lights it is more one than the other. In natural light, it looks more grey but in fluorescent or tungsten it is more brown. And it’s made by Best Chairs Inc.

  133. I was just in babies r us yesterday and found this chair thinking it might be the one. When I went online to find it, your blog was the only thing that came up. You’ve convinced me. I m wondering though, you mentioned it is a gray brown color. Did you get a different fabric or did you order the same one than you saw in the store? If so you’re right, in the store in its gray but your pictures show it more brown. Let me know! Thanks so much,

  136. I do! We use it everyday at least three times a day and we still love it. I do wish it was easier to move (but that’s probably only because whenever I vacuum it seems like it weighs a bazillion pounds) and I have yet to find the perfect lumbar pillow for it (I need that extra back support with this pregnancy) but other than that…it’s still dreamy 🙂

  145. Hi! Getting 2 of these chairs now that I read your review. One for living room one for nursery (one day we will put both in living room). Wanted to ask though, what color is the gray wall paint because it looks great with the chair & looks very neutral. Every gray sample color that I paint on our nursery wall looks purple to me!   153. How is the Kersey recliner holding up? Im considering purchasing for my nursery and there aren’t many reviews on it but I love that it reclines! Does it resist stains stains well?

  154. It is holding up well but we did ScotchGuard it so that may be a reason why? Not sure. Also, since it is in the nursery, it doesn’t get exposed to a whole lot of dirt.

  155. Hi Katie! I am looking to buy this chair and am curious how tall your husband is, and if his head/neck lays on it comfortably while sitting or reclining? I am 5’10” and hubby 6′ and we are having problems finding ones that are high enough in the back. This chair is a good price and we are hoping it will work for us, but we live 3 hours away from any babies r us store, so we have to order online without knowing how it fits…. We are definitely waiting until the last minute, considering the baby is due in 1.5 WEEKS!

  156. Jeremy said that it is definitely comfortable but his head hits right at the top…like any taller it would be not so comfy. He is just under six foot.

  157. Hi there I am considering this chair but I am wondering where the handel to recline is? I don’t see it. Is it a push back or on the inside next to your leg?

  158. It does have a handle inside the seat cushion and arm rest to release the foot part and then it does just collapse with your legs pushing it under 🙂
