Once upon a time, very very long ago, I convinced one of my best friends to get on Pinterest. And after she saw the light, she was all like “where-have-you-been-my-love?!” and I was like “I KNOW!”
And now she’s like snorting Pinterest like every single day. more specifically….pinning photos of a certain white rapper (would the real slim neck-kisser please stand up.)
Then a few weeks ago, she came to visit me and totally talked me up about Instagram. Actually it was both her and her husband – in the words of Lindsey Lohan in Mean Girls….total pushers – and they told me all about how I obviously need to get on it and it’s so easy and only takes a second and right up my alley because of the pictures and all that. And that the first time would be free. (actually it’s all free so I think they just like saying the word free when they try to convince me to do stuff because they know I’m like a rabid dog when it comes to freebies).
And I fell for it. I totally skipped the gateway drug Twitter and went right for the hard stuff.
And of course, now I am like one Insta-fool….basically getting a high every time I have something Insta-worthy. and even when it’s not…just seeing how things look with the Rise filter gets me going like only Jeremy and bacon do. I. am. hooked.
But then I realized…oh yeah….my mom has a flip phone from 1997 and she has no idea how to check her voicemail much less get on Instagram…so I probably should show her some of those photos here. You’re welcome Ma for the drug references….I know how much you love it when I do that 🙂
So here’s what I am gonna do – I decided every 16 photos or so, I’m gonna collage em. and then pick my top three….Olympic style – Gold medal, silver and bronze. That way, I can share these nuggets of life with all of you flip-phoners too 🙂
My sweet 16 of Instagramming had nothing uber interesting. The theme was “All Over The Place” or “The Fourth”.
The gold medal was a toughie…but I had to award it to the sunflowers. They are gold afterall. But the real reason they won is because I was uber impressed with the fact that I could take a good iphone photo of them in the blazing hot 107 degree sun. Singlehandedly these yellow beauts convinced me that yes, iphones can take a photo worth framing.
Inched out by a hair was our silver medal winner – Will in his newly spraypainted highchair. WITH A GENUINE SMILE.
Bronze was a tough one to pick but I think in the end, I had to pick these cameras. My Papppap gave them to me and although they aren’t blogworthy enough for an entire post, I love giving them a shoutout. At first, Jer thought we could sell em…but seconds later we were both convinced they were too cool to part with right now (and I am a photographer afterall!)…so I might do some cool prints of them…who knows.
Okay – since we are behind on the Instagram thing – I thought I could squeeze in the second set of sweet sixteen photos here too.
The theme? I was thinking “Will & Food”
Far and away in my mind the gold medal and the top prize this week goes to my little muddy man. Also known as Spot or Lucky for all you 101 Dalmation fans 🙂
He splashed, he conquered…he has a great intensity for mud.
Silver medal goes to the photo of Will’s first non-crib nap. I sat up in the room with him as he slept and he did awesome. And yes, if you must know, I laid him there just so I could take his photo. This is actually gonna be his little siblings room…eventually. As cute as he is…just check out the light…so darn pretty – it was an easy pick for second place.
Third place was hard. In the end, I decided to go with a sneak peek. Yup. On Instagram, I give ya sneak peeks of projects that we are tackling…and this new runner is one of them. It’s a little stretch for me to go with animal print but the price and quality and subtlety of colors made me oh-so-happy. please ignore the toenails….theyaredisgustingthankyouverymuch.
And that’s it folks! My newest addition – the Instagram Dump. Any favorites? Anybody else late to the Insta-show but totally on the Insta-wagon now? Anyone tired of me referring to everything with Instaonit? 🙂 Or maybe you just wanna set me straight on how awesome 1997 phones are…and how they are totally coming back 🙂

Oh yeah, I just joined up recently too. I called it Sarcastagram for the longest time because come on, how retro really IS that cup of coffee? Then I actually fell for it, and now I *sigh* love it. I tend to show photos of foods I’ve cooked up that I won’t actually blog about, ongoings in the garden, sneak peaks of the house, and mostly the dogs (which most people seem to love haha). I’m on there with the username likeacupoftea anyone wants to take a sneakpeak.
OMG! I joined instagram after you talked about it last week and I am now totally hooked. Thank you so much because I am a HORRIBLE photographer and I feel like this app totally makes me look awesome. It’s addictive. Good app recommendation Katie 🙂

I LOOOVE Instagram and I have to say that picture you posted the other day of Will praying, oh my God it totally melted my heart! Anywho, you should totally join the Photo a Day Challenge for the month of August. I’m doing it now for July and it’s tons of fun. I so wanna be on the insta wagon. My phone although not from 1997 has sadly become obsololete and cannot support it. Stupid technology!!!! Hubby just doesn’t agree with me that I need a new phone solely for the purpose of getting insta gram!! Man he is mean. 🙂

I love your collage idea… you know, I think anyone who uses Instagram will really appreciate jumping in on the wagon come decades later… imagine looking back at the little snippets of your life experiences, it’ll make life seem so much richer, so much more fulfilling…and today, it gives you a chance to appreciate the moments, to really take a look around you and have the opportunity to capture and understand the emotions of living life here and now, for whatever it brings…and if you capture what seems like a dull moment, just add that filter and sha-bam check out that atmosphere now….um, i may be having a love affair, i know. My apologies for word vomit… are the birds chirping yet? Blame it on the Instagram high you speak of my friend.

Have you tried Camera+ yet? I think I had to pay .99 for it, but it’s really awesome too. If you haven’t, you should check it out. I kept seeing all these cool pictures people were posting on Facebook and found out that’s what they were using. Love it.
