Sentimental artwork is my absolute favorite and everyone knows I am already obsessed with my kids. Combining the two of those things in one DIY project is like winning the lottery! I did just that (not literally win the lottery – although the possibility exists – just gotta buy that ticket!) when I made this DIY Children’s Silhouette Art.
I was inspired by a friend’s silhouette art that she had in her living room of her two little ones. She had paid a bundle and I wanted to be able to share with you just how easy this project is! Modeling for us today is my sweet baby girl Ella –
Girlfriend loves having her photo taken….and I, the sentimental mama that I am, happily oblige 🙂
Here is the how-to video….
And here are the steps if you need it in written form…
- Gather supplies
- camera
- thin piece of wood (I used scrap underlayment)
- 4×6 photo paper
- Canon PIXMA TS9521C printer
- small wood plaque
- scroll saw
- spray adhesive
- glue stick
- scissors
- pencil
- letter sized plain paper
- white paint
- paint brush
- sandpaper
- Take a profile photo of the child with your camera
- Print 4×6 of the profile picture on your Canon PIXMA TS9521C printer
- Using spray adhesive, lightly coat the 4×6 and place on thin piece of wood
- Cut out the profile on the wood with the scroll saw
- Peel off photo and sand adhesive off wood profile
- Paint wood profile and small plaque
- Print off patterned paper on the Canon PIXMA TS9521C using one of their pre-loaded patterns
- Trace and cut out round front of plaque onto your patterned paper
- Using glue stick, adhere the paper to the front of plaque
- Apply more glue to the back of the wood profile and fix on the center of the plaque
- Hang on the wall using a command strip or use on a shelf. Cherish for years to come!
Wasn’t that so easy?! I love the pattern option on the printer – I think that it totally made this silhouette project look so much cuter! And it was super simple – the printer already has preloaded patterns….you simply select it from their gallery and print it on your plain paper. I loved that because I hate having to run out to the store and buy scrapbook paper. Inevitably it gets wrinkled in the car and I misplace it before being able to get my project going! This was a god-send.
I love being able to create things that have so many memories! One day I am gonna look back at that sprout of hair on her head and think back to how we created her little half top-knot every day….I’ll probably burst into tears. Just like I am right now!
So if you tackle this simple DIY, I’d love to see your finished projects! Tag me on Facebook or on Instagram so I can check them out!
