This past March, I filmed a house tour – just for me. I wasn’t planning on sharing it but then I found it a couple days ago and knew that it was worth showing you. We had just completed our floor refinishing and our house was VERY messy but inching closer to the place where things felt settled…..not done mind you….but settled. Like rooms were having purpose. The playroom was the playroom instead of being an office. The office was an office instead of being a sitting room. The boys were in their own rooms instead of being in the closet beneath the stairs. Just making sure you guys were still reading 🙂 Also, always shoutout to Harry.
Anyhoo….the point is – I wanted to film this because I wanted to document our current state….no matter how torn apart (did you see the kitchen?!), how much dirty laundry (those hampers are popping) or weird (dog bed and mini fridge in the bathroom?) it may look. This was us. This is real and unstaged. And there isn’t much that I’m good at but I can do real and unstated 🙂 I know this isn’t the typical house tour (shaky camera much?) but this is our little reality (at least it was six months ago) and I am super proud of how far we have come!

I didn’t watch it with the sound on (my boss thinks I’m doing actual work right now) so I apologize if missed some important detail that makes my comments sound dumb. The office looks so empty and I’m uber envious of it. We are bursting at the seams with 3 teenagers plus us in a small 3 bedroom house and oh what I wouldn’t give to just have a space that wasn’t overflowing with stuff. Second, I’m so glad you moved that big cabinet to the dining room. You’re right, that walkway was too tight with it in the living room.
Thanks for sharing!

It’s beautiful, you have both done so much you should be so proud.

Thank you for the home tour! Any upcoming plans for Ella’s room, master bath or boy’s bathrooms? Can’t wait to see what’s next and how they unfold! Would love a tour of the lower level too!!
Katie says
We do have plans for the nursery and for the boys bathroom (at least a quick fix for that one!).

It’s not empty now if that makes you feel any better 🙂 I constantly am changing it for uses and right now it is filled to the brim for photos 🙂

I loved this tour. It was real and you truly have donr so much!! Also, that white countertop looks even better on video than it does in photos…if that is possible?!

Sorry, when reading this post in Firefox, I could only see two paragraphs of text and one photo of your upper floor hallway. No film??? When I opened it in Explorer, there was also the film.

What I love most is the books … almost in every room! So nice to see we are not the only ones with tons of books 🙂 and obviously your house is simply stunning!

Hi Katie! I watched the video in IE because the ad-blocker in Chrome completely hid it in your blog (just wanted to let you know). The video is great because it helps me better understand how the pieces relate to each other and fit within the entire room. Thanks for posting! Christina

I feel like I’m missing something – is the video on another page? I see a big picture but no link anywhere!

So random question, where did you get the buffalo check/plaid toy hampers in the play room. I’m looking for something like that for my son’s room.

Your house is beautiful… I just want to know what the heck the designers/builders were thinking when they put in SO.MANY.EXTERIOR.DOORS?! LOL
You did a great job working around them with your furniture!

That was fun to watch! I love that you pointed out spots on the rugs. Lol! I’ve always wondered what was at the end of that hallway next to the wallpapered wall & now I know that’s where your guest room lives. What a great spot for it! I am currently living through a long-haul renovation. My husband is taking out the existing orange travertine & replacing it with wood-look porcelain tile, 1 room at a time, over 4300 square feet. I’ve had a baby & she’s almost 8 months old since he’s started. He’s gotten a bathroom done. The hallway going to the nursery & my older daughter’s room has been torn up for weeks now. It’s stressful. I’m glad to see in not the only person who lives this way.

RIDICULOUS HUH?! 15 to be exact!

Thanks!! I know you get sourcing questions all the time, but I had to ask, my search has not been fruitful.

I love your house. It’s pretty but lived in. I know that the boys share rooms, so does Ella have her own room? I love kids sharing rooms and having a dedicated guest room.
RBC says
Wait what?! I have been reading your blog since Will was a baby and for some reason I thought the laundry and that boys’ room was upstairs! – ?? Mind blown lol. Anyway, it looks great! And it is SUPER clean! (I have 4 kids and you should see my house right now :/)

I wasn’t able to either but if I clicked on the videos link I was able to watch the home tour video. Thanks Katie for the tour, your home is beautiful!

Oh Katie, how I love you – this is the most relatable thing you’ve ever posted. Half-done projects and kid stuff thrown about is just how it goes 🙂 Also, past-13-year-old me is so jealous of future 13-year-old Ella with her OWN PRIVATE OASIS-AWAY-FROM-THE-BROTHERS bathroom.

This was exceptionally tidy considering you have an enormous house and so many children. I have one kid and a small two bedroom unit, and my house looks that tidy twice a year at most!
I enjoyed seeing everything at once, so thanks for putting the vid up.
Katie says
The room at the very end (it’s currently set up as a guest room) is gonna be her nursery.

The laundry is downstairs and so is the playroom….but all the bedrooms are upstairs 🙂

Do you have SIX bathrooms?!!!? Cleaning those seems overwhelming! We have 3 (only 3 kids) and primarily use one. Such a gorgeous home, though! Thanks for sharing!

I remember when you first said about how you’d gotten a floor refinishing quote and couldn’t justify it…..I am sooo glad you did! I’ve been following along since Weston, and have read allll your archives and apart from painting the exterior those dreamy grey tones, I think this is almost my second favourite major project…along with painting the trim white!!! Super jealous!! Well done, you guys! xx
Katie says
We have 1 in the basement, 1.5 on the ground floor and three on the upper floor – it is overwhelming to clean all of them but we don’t use them all.

If you are watching on CHROME then it doesn’t show up. You might have to switch to Internet Explorer or a different browser 🙂
