I am thrilled to announce the 2011 Military Family Photography Contest.
In the spirit of giving back to those who sacrifice everyday for our freedom, I am soo excited to give away a free photoshoot to a special military family.
If you are a family in Gwinnett County area (or can travel here) who has a member in the military, this is for you! For those of you who know a military family in the Gwinnett County area, please share this link! And for those folks who don’t even know how to pronounce Gwinnett…well, we are putting this contest to a vote so we need your help too!
AND FOR EVERYONE…I am boldly challenging you to come up with a way you can give back to a military family in your area! It doesn’t have to be big…just directly from the heart. In the spirit of the fastly approaching Independence Day, share a way that you plan to serve the military families near and dear to you in the comments and maybe you will inspire others to do the same.
Please visit my photography website for more details! You can click the link in my sidebar 🙂

This is awesome, Katie! My husband is a veteran and still serving as a reservist, and it means so much to me that you would use your talent to give such a great gift to a military family. I am nowhere near Gwinnett County [although I can pronounce it, thanks to a friend that grew up there :)], if we won, I would gladly travel there!

Ooh, I knew you were metro Atlanta, but I didn’t realize Gwinnett! DH went to Norcross High, and we lived in Gwinnett until we moved to the Seattle area two years ago. Small world. I’m going to enter my parents for the contest (Dad was career Navy; they live in DeKalb) – thank you for doing it!
Aimee says
Oh, darn. Never mind. Just saw that it’s active & reserve only.

How about you take a little sneak peak up to Wisco?! It’s warm up here now! My husband has served in the Military for last 10 years and served two tours of Duty to Iraq in ’05 and ’09….he’s the best Soldier in my opinion 🙂
I think it’s SO awesome that you are providing this opportunity Katie! The family you choose is in for a treat, and I will forever envy them!!! Good Luck Georgian’s! xo

Awesome, Katie! I volunteer for an organization called Operation: Love ReUnited, it is all about giving photo sessions to active military! check it out: http://www.oplove.org
It probably isn’t an option for you now (I think they require 3 years in business – minimum right now) but maybe in the future you might be interested! My husband and I are considering moving to Atlanta, and so I’ll have to transfer regions! Should be fun. 🙂

My husband is active duty Air Force, so I just wanted to say how great I think this contest is (even though we’re a little far away to enter). This isn’t always an easy way to live, so thanks for the recognition. 😉

Katie, thank you SO much for what you are doing. How incredible! My boyfriend is finishing up his first tour in Afghanistan (gets home this weekend!!). I must say that before this year I had no idea what kind of sacrifices were involved in the military life (and let’s be honest, I still have only scratched the surface)… I’m blown away that some people spend their entire working lives doing serving in our military. These men and women AND their families are due the utmost respect and gratitude for their constant sacrifice and especially in this war, I feel they aren’t always fully appreciated.
It really blesses me and makes the difficulties a little more worth it when I see our soldiers honored – whether that be in big or little ways. Just a heartfelt “thanks” goes further than you would think!

As the granddaughter of a soldier and a sailor, the daughter of an airman, and the wife of a Marine (all four branches represented in my family!), it warms my heart to see this contest. I don’t live anywhere near Atlanta, but this is a great way to express appreciation for the sacrifices of our service members and their families. Thank you, Katie!
For those looking for a way to give back to the members of our armed forces, please consider volunteering at your local USO. The USO is a great, non-profit organization that was kind to us on many occassions, notably as we were stuck in airports across the nation and the world. There’s usually an army (pun intended) of sweet ladies there serving homemade treats and a cluster or prior servicemen swapping funny stories with current service members about their time in uniform. Even if you can’t devote time each week to sit and welcome people at your USO, you can bake goods and drop them off or even donate funds to send a care package. But most importantly, you can keep our service members and their families in your thoughts and prayers!

What a great idea. I’m sure you will have a wonderful time with whoever wins the contest.
My sorority sister/dear friend/bridesmaed extradanaire is serving in Qatar with the Navy. My husband (who was in the army) and I put together a Fourth of July BBQ in a Box for her this year. Complete with gummy hamburger and hot dogs, gummy cola bottles, and gumy watermelon slices. So that is how we’ve chosen to support our military this year.
Happy Wednesday! And can’t wait to see how the photoshoot turns out!

Thanks so much for doing this Katie. My husband is Active Duty Air Force but we’re a bit out of your range (Langley AFB, Virginia). Can’t wait to read about the shoot and see the lovely pictures.

OMG, I think this is amazing! I’m a very proud Army Wife (been married to my soldier for almost 12yrs now and we’ve been through 5 deployments-yep over 6yrs of our marriage he’s spent overseas) and a proud daughter of an Air Force Vet, and a super proud Grand-daughter of an Army and Navy Vet, so I’m always beyond thrilled when I see things like this! We’re currently stationed in Colorado but we have tons of friends stationed in GA so I’ll be sure to spread the word. I know their families would love to take advantage of an oppurtunity like this one, especially given all the upcoming deployments they still face. Thanks again Katie, you’re the best!

This is so sweet of you Katie! My husband is a vet and still in the National Guard in our state and you are going to make a family so happy! I’ll pass on the word to my active duty friends stationed in Georgia.

Thank you! This is a very generous and thoughtful idea, Katie. We are a US Army family stationed in northern Poland (yea, I didn’t know we had people here either) so can’t enter, but I will post on Facebook about your offer.
We may move to the Augusta area in 2 years if all my finger-crossing and first-star-wishing work out. I’ll see if you are available for a photo session then, as I love your family and especially your kid photos. You are truly gifted.
Best,
Laura
