Disclaimer – This bad boy IS NOT sponsored. Ikea doesn’t know me. If they did, they might get weirded out by my obsession with them and pull a restraining order. Just sayin.
Ikea….everyone’s favorite Swedish meatball provider and home decor store…is always coming out with new stuff and recently they announced they are releasing the 2018 catalog soon! That’s right girls! Time to strap on the bras and pull out the wallets!
You can sign up to get a digital version or receive one in the mail….here is the link.
So before you check out the new stuff that will be available soon in their stores and online, I wanted to share a little info that I realized not everyone knows! Also I am gonna give a little shoutout to some of their new stuff this year (I mean…it JUST came out!!!) and some of it is soooo gooooood! I know typically Ikea can sometimes look a little um….cheap….said in my softest whispery voice ever…kinda like how my mom says dirty words…..but these things are styled after more expensive wares (think Crate and Barrel, West Elm, Room & Board, etc.) and I think they are loaded with style even though they still get to boast that Ikea price point.
So first – some really fun facts you should know.
- IKEA DELIVERS – that’s right folks. It started a while back but you can order some ikea stuff online and they do have a delivery option. The problem is that the shipping is expensive….I looked at a cutting board for $12 and delivery was $10. But heck, if you don’t have a store nearby and must own a particular item…it’s the price you pay.
- IKEA IS AVAILABLE ON AMAZON – Yup. It’s true. A lot of their stuff is available on prime – CLICK HERE TO SEE. And so you can save on shipping and get it this week! The furniture is obviously still one of those things that you will have to go into a store for…but if you are just shopping for what I call “smalls” – (small housewares like baskets, pillow covers, hooks, etc) it’s totally worth checking out! ***UPDATE – these are not sold directly by IKEA – these are third party sellers but still available on Amazon and manufactured by Ikea and still new. Sorry for any confusion!!!
- IKEA HAS FUN MAKEOVER VIDEOS – They are cheesier than my mother’s lasagna but completely worth checking out for inspirational value alone. Basically the premise is – go into a space and give it a makeover and each one is about 3-5 minutes….so you can cram a bunch into your lunch break. CLICK HERE TO WATCH. My favorite result is episode 214 – the man cave one….but my favorite video is episode 303 – the kids bathroom makeover. No more spitting on hands 🙂
Now let’s get to that home-candy, shall we?!
These are things that JUST came out in the last year and they are winning all the heart eyes.
Black & gold shade – loving the moody look over a dining table! And so glam with that gold inside.
Watercolor-esque pillow cover – love this casual and artistic vibe that isn’t too many shades of the rainbow.
Textured throw – perfect for the end of a bed or over the back of a chair. Fingers crossed that it’s super comfy!
Metal & wood shelving – this is the best compromise of style when it comes to kids. Things they can’t destroy are always a win in my book.
Round wood tray – it’s a great size for collecting all those odds and ends in a bathroom, a kitchen or the entryway! Or tomatoes. All the tomatoes.
Entryway hall tree – metal and portable, this dude has 12 hooks for a relatively small footprint. That’s amazing.
Linen duvet & sham – it’s under $100 bucks for a king size. That’s just unreal for a linen duvet.
Gold & white globe light – price wise it can’t be beat. The style? I would flank a bathroom mirror with these and pretend I spent a fortune.
Gold & black clock – it is a nod back to more glamourous times….like yesterday when you didn’t have dry shampoo on your scalp.
Black matte silverware – gold forks dominated 2017, will the new silverware of 2018 be a matte black? Batman says yes.
Walnut & black floating sink – all that storage! A girl can dream!
Black & white bag – it’s winning my affection with it’s size and is cheaper than gift wrap. Maybe I should do a black & white christmas and put all the presents in these this year!
Blue & white dishtowels – I love the navy trend (long time readers know navy is my JAM) and I feel like these sweet dishtowels would be a sweet traditional nod in any kitchen.
Rattan chair with white cushions – this is the cutest chair ever. like I might try to convince Jeremy that we need to build a sunroom just so that I can own it.
Underbed trundle – guys! It’s a trundle…for your guests….but then it also had drawers…for your drawers. That’s what we call underwear…because apparently Jeremy has a problem with me calling them man panties.
Navy & glass cabinet – how perfect would this be in a boys bathroom? I mean…it would hold all the towels and they would look so pretty and protect them from little boys imperfect aim. Not that I would know about that. Nope. Never.
Square arm sofa – this reminds me of the Harding sofa from Room & Board…but at a third of the price.
Rattan cabinet – how cute is this little guy?! It seriously makes me want to replace all the dark wood in my house with light and bright.
Alphabet duvet & sham – I am digging this duvet for a kids room! I mean…it would be great for anyone to have in their linen closet for guests too because it could work for a girl or a boy!
Metal hook – Imagine a whole line of these on custom shiplap. It would be the cutest mudroom addition!
Two-toned basket – Loving the two toned look for larger planter baskets. I used one for our master bedroom and this one is a great size and price.
Ants doormat – Halloween is just around the bend and this would be the perfect inexpensive addition to any spooky front porch.
Basket with handles – If your Ikea has this basket in stock, buy it. And then mail it to me. I’ve been stalking it for ages and everyone in Atlanta apparently loves it too because it sells out instantly.
Faux greenery – I actually went to Ikea and bought like 8 of these fake eucalyptus stems. They are really good faux’s – and the price is decent.
Black lantern – LOVE having black lanterns under my deck this season (I’ve yet to show you that space) and these are really tall for the price.
So that is my roundup for today of all my favorite Ikea things. Pretty sweet huh?! I mean…ikea! Land of all things dorm room has turned a corner and now it’s perfect for the grown up home! Just don’t tell Ikea I said that….I mean, I want them to still make dorm room stuff….one day I’ll have four kids in college at the same time. It’ll be kinda important.

Hi Katie-
Thanks for sharing the IKEA love 🙂 One small note- IKEA is not sold on Amazon. Young House Love mentioned then corrected this, too. Here is the official IKEA statement on the YHL podcast show notes: http://www.younghouselove.com/2017/07/55-whats-feng-shui-screwing/
Have a great day!
Amanda says
IKEA actually came out with a statement that they do not sell on Amazon. When you purchase an IKEA product on Amazon it is coming from a reseller instead. I love IKEA, our playroom is practically an ad for them! Please purchase directly whenever possible.
cd says
I thought that Ikea stuff on Amazon was not legit? Seemed more expensive than buying straight from Ikea. I thought YHL posted about and then kinda retracted the “ooh exciting” thing? I can’t find it now, but have a memory of reading that.
RC says
I love IKEA too! You might want to update that IKEA items available on Amazon are sold only through third party sellers.

Hi Katie! I hope this isn’t the 50th comment about this, I can’t see any other comments, but you might want to rewrite the sentence about them coming out with the 2018 catalog soon. I got a catalog in the mail about 2 weeks ago. Most of my favorite things you posted on here, great taste!!
Have a great day!
Rachel says
Just a heads up but the ikea stuff at amazon is not coming from ikea. its a third party seller! IKEA put out a notice about it recently!
Mollie says
You are severely testing my self-imposed shopping moritorium!
Gil says
Younghouse Love had a post about Ikea items being sold on Amazon and then retracted their statement because it was not true.

Lindsey says
The IKEA stuff on amazon isn’t for sale by IKEA, it’s be denounced as from third party sellers and I guess people have had issues with quality and such. IKEA put out a statement about it, just a heads up!
Jill says
Don’t know if you listen to YHLHAP, but Sherry and John found out that IKEA on Amazon is a myth. IKEA also put out a statement that they do not sell on Amazon at this time.
Casey says
Heard somewhere that the Ikea items on Amazon are not actually sold by Ikea! Someone basically used their name to sell some of their stuff, and they’ve been trying to shut it down…
Gina says
Cute stuff! Just received my 2018 catalog but haven’t had a chance to thumb through it. I believe that IKEA commented on the Amazon situation a while back. It’s not directly from IKEA but from 3rd party sellers.
Allison says
Just an FYI, I received an IKEA newsletter email a month or so ago with this as well.
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/about_ikea/newsitem/062617_IKEA_Amazon
They say anything IKEA on amazon is through a reseller and not through them.
Katie says
Sorry – I didn’t write that clearly. I meant it was available but I didn’t mention the 3rd party thing…DOH!
xo – kb
Katie says
Yes…it’s third party…but still their stuff…I should have been more clear about that.
xo – kb
Katie says
Yes – I was not clear about that at all…so sorry Ikea!!!
xo – kb
Katie says
Sorry I was so unclear about that! I updated the post. I was trying to say that it’s available…not that it’s direct. Foot in mouth!
xo – kb
Katie says
Yes I should have. I updated the post but yeah…why is it so hard to be clear sometimes?! #stupidkatie
xo – kb
Katie says
So it’s coming out sooner to some areas…we got ours today (I wrote this post about a week ago!).
xo – kb
Katie says
Sorry I was vague about that….totally didn’t mean that it was direct…just that some of it was available.
xo – kb
Katie says
I agree…we purchase direct too but I know that some people don’t have it in their area…so that’s why I was stating it was available. I failed to mention it was through a third party…but hopefully they will see the post update! My bad!
xo – kb
Katie says
It’s from a third party….but a lot of stuff is…kinda like buying from ebay or craigslist…it can be labeled new but it’s not direct. I should have been more clear. so sorry!

Love Ikea, my first stop is their clearance section. I would say 50% is labelled “showroom display” so it is not a returned item. Also, I buy all my sofa pillows there and usually find a cover that I like so change those frequently according to season. It is a great place to shop if you are putting in a kitchen or a bathroom and need an extra door or filler. Everything lands up in the clearance section sooner or later! Also, we bought our kitchen at Ikea, excellent staff to help you, they print off your list, you pay and have it delivered to your home. Love Ikea.
Katie says
Sorry I was unclear about that…it’s through a third party seller but it is originally from ikea.

So I just snagged one of the baskets with handles you so love and it’s “always sold out” have to say I was surprised to find it where I did…. it was smushed into itself, the top was folded down in the bottom at the little bump. Anyway it looked like a woven bowl shaped basket and was near the couches. There was a small stack of the baskets looking like a pile of bowls next to a bin of throw pillows in the couch display part of the store. Seemed so random to find it there. Hope that helps in your hunt on your next visit to ikea!
Katie says
Bah! I will have to check next time there! I usually just check online and then it says in stock but when I go to the store, they look it up on their little handheld device thingie and it’s gone….BUT I STILL WANT IT. Thank you for the tip!

Katie this is great! It is such a lovely article and I find that the photos are lovely as well. It’s just amazing how you put all these together on “Fun Stuff at Ikea” with such great tips! Looking forward to more of these.
