Swaddle blankets make babies cuter y’all. It’s a fact. And it is another fact that I have A TON of cute boy swaddles that literally have turned these squishy babes into tacos and everyone knows that tacos make everything better.
So I’ve been doing some sorting…figuring out what I could possibly use for Baby Girl Bower and pulling out the things that could possibly look cute on girls. I realized that when it comes to swaddle blankets, I have some go to brands and types but I have nothing that is overtly feminine….so I’m ready to remedy that (of course I’ll still use most of the ones I had from the boys and just slap a bow on her head but I’d also like to embrace all things GIRLY).
Here are some of the ones that I’ve been eyeing…
If you are a girl mom I’d love for you to weigh in! I’m obsessed with the florals on white backgrounds…but I have always loved the oversized muslin versions because they make for easy taco-wrapping. And let’s be honest…do you put the matching bows on with the blankets? Is that a thing? Teach me the ways oh girly mamas!

I had two glorious little girls who were each bald for quite a while. Hats maybe but never a bow. Just wasn’t my thing. They are just as cute without, but if you love them, go for it! Girls are so much fun!

I have two girls. I would never consider bows or headbands when wrapping them for sleep. This seems like something someone might do only for a photo shoot. Is this a serious question? Or just stretching for a reason to post a list of affiliate links?
Clarice says
Please don’t make that poor baby wear a bow or buy fruity, froofy blankets just because the baby has a vagina.

I have twin boys who lived in swaddles for quite a while and it’s safe to say we didn’t need anymore when we found out we were expecting one baby girl but I have never regretted buying a couple beautifully, feminine swaddle blankets from Little Unicorn. She used all of the boys’ blankets as well but I loved embracing having a girl as well.

although I am a boy mama, you have to check out Tula’s amazing blankets!! They are so super soft and breathable and so perfect for a good swaddle! They also make amazing backgrounds for pics. I drool over so many prints that would be adorable swaddling a baby girl….Vintage, Secret Garden, Tulaceratops, Blissful, Juicy…..ahh i could go on….whenever they release a new print that screams girl to me, i strongly consider having one more and hope for that girl. lol Definitely check them out! https://babytula.com/collections/blankets

Little Unicorn, Solly Baby, and Lou Lou and Company for sure! Solly and Lulu are both more jersey, but still so great!

The best swaddle thing hands down is the wombie – put the baby in and zip. It’s made of stretchy knit fabric, so it keeps baby snug, but not 100% restrained. It’s supposed to mimic the feeling of being in a womb. Hence the name. I only discovered it with my third baby and it was a hand-me-down from a friend who’s done having kids. All my three kiddos are girls, 6- and 3-years-old, and a 6-month baby. The older two are very girly – they actually refuse to wear anything but dresses. But when they were babies, I didn’t dressed them in girly things. As far as outfit colors go, we did choose flower patterns and pink hues. However, I never dressed my babies in onesies with mock-skirt frills, any embellishments on the back, or bows on the head. The reason is I didn’t want my baby girls to be uncomfortable. Think how it may feel for a baby, who spends most of the time laying on her back, to have anything but smooth fabric on the back. Skirt frills? Cute, but the baby must feel that bump when laying on it for hours. And the bows? I usually get a headache when I wear a snug headband for over an hour. Why put something constricting on the baby’s head? And if it’s not snug, then it’s loose, which is a hazard. So, I think, cute girly embellishments are great for photos, but not so good for everyday wear. For me, practicality trumps fashion, when it comes to baby attire.
Katie says
Totally serious. I mean the pictures have them. Just wondering if it’s a thing people do. I know here in the south, there are some mamas who match the bow religiously to whatever outfit they have on….I didn’t know if it’s a thing for swaddles too.

You neeeeed some Tula blankets! They’re amazing. So so soft, warm yet breathable. And their prints are THE CUTEST. We have way too many haha!
Beeejet says
I say match away!!
But in all practicality, when babe is swaddled you won’t want a bow on her. My babe (4-almost-5 months) has a hard time keeping the headbands on when in the carseat, swing etc. because she’s always looking around a scrubbing her head.
But they make for AWESOME photos!
I’ve also found it easier to have solid color bows in many/all colors instead of a specific fabric for a specific outfit.
Elizabeth says
please reconsider the bow. Personally they are not a look, but more importantly
they are also dangerous.

Definitely florals! Bebe by minihaha and toshi make gorgeous wraps and clothes for girls.
I never did the matching headband, but I did love headbands on my girls
Lauren says
On baby girl 2 right now (currently just out of newborn stage). I personally just stick to the good ‘ole Aden and Anais. It’s too hot in the south for much else, and I could never justify buying the actual swaddlers (as opposed to a large blanket) since (possible tmi) my eldest had such a habit of intense reflux, I would have had to buy like 5 in every size just to make it through the night. Blankets were just too practical – and my husband is a swaddle ninja, so that helps.
As for the bows – I didn’t have the ones to match her blanket, but I definitely do bows every day. I have over 40 headband bows (I counted), in various sizes from petite to ridiculous. My mom made most of them, and it was great because my kids have really funky hairlines and the headband helped A LOT with that. I keep “emergency bows” in my diaper bag in case I forget some and “need” to take a photo while we’re out.
They definitely have bow subscription services if you want to indulge.

Ooooh, yes. Matching bows for ALL. THE. THINGS. I mean, not while she’s sleeping, but for sure for the sweet photos and if you’re going out! I have two girls (two years and four months) and my faves are Tula (seriously, a must), Little Unicorn, and Milk Snob. And you need a Solly Wrap! I also like the cocoon floral ‘sacks’ and wish I had gotten one for the hospital. Try BabyBling, Little Poppy Co., and the thousands of Etsy shops for bows/headbands. ☺ I wish I could just walk on over and gift you with all the hand-me-downs! You’re going to be the most wonderful girl mom. ❤

For my little girl I loved comfy knit hats with one big crochet flower. I think they came from Old Navy in the fall/winter collections. My little girl hated bows. Babies grow so quickly, I’m all for buying as little as possible, but splash out on one blanket you love for sure.

I was given a Nuroo swaddler for my last child and loved it. I swaddle all my babies and the Nuroo swaddler was so easy to use. So much easy than using a blanket that you have to fold and tuck in. My kids always wriggled their arms out. The Nuroo has a large velco closure, wraps them tight but is breathable and not too warm. It can also get bigger as your baby grows. I sound like a commercial, but I just really love them. My last one started coming apart and I called the company and they sent me a new one for free. Here’s a link to what I’m talking about: http://amzn.to/2tBB1KA

The best swaddles are Saranoni brand–huge, and so soft with a bamboo cotton blend. All kinds of cute patterns–lovely florals on white, also pineapples, robots, and flamingos!

Oh please. Because no one should be allowed to dress a baby girl differently than a baby boy.

My first baby was a girl and I got so tired of pink pink pink all the time… yes, absolutely, it’s a must but after awhile…? I badly wanted some purple, lavender, green, orange, yellow and most of all BLUE! All colors that aren’t typical baby, but look adorable on girls too. Grab those “boy” swaddles and add the bow! besides, your boys might feel a connection if baby sister is using something that was theirs… 🙂

Girl mom here, no to the matching bow and swaddle! To me it’s sorta like wearing the same print on a top and on a pant, at the same time! A solid colored bow will go cute with a floral swaddle!

So Cute! We call our swaddled babies at the daycare I work at, little bean burrito babies! The name was given for two reasons: one, they look like little bean burritos. And two, they poop like they have eaten multiple bean burritos!
Stephanie says
For swaddling I honestly used the hospital blankets for both of my babes (one boy, one girl). I never put a bow or anything extra on there. I think you always have to consider that anything extra can become dangerous as a choking hazard or suffocation hazard, etc. with all the adorable extras and accessories for girls this is definitely something you want to keep in the forefront of your mind.
For bows, one thing that has always stuck in my mind is a comment from my pediatrician at my daughter’s two month check up. She commented on how relieved she was that I didn’t have her in one of those elastic headbands with a bow. She said she sees that all the time and it makes her cringe because usually they’re so tight they make an indention in the skin. She loved the alternative that my daughter was wearing which was actually a soft headband that I DIY’d out of tshirt material. So soft and cute and comfortable! I’d make them with bows or rosettes on them. I have always enjoyed the girly side of having a daughter but a lot of stuff that’s out there can be uncomfortable especially for a baby or just down right dangerous. Boys are awesome but there’s no doubt about it- dressing a little girl is SO much fun!!! my daughter is 5 now and it’s still exciting!!!

Adorable-but don’t you mean burrito babies? lol

Little Unicorn has THEEE cutest floral swaddles. Love them to pieces. Also Solly Baby sells swaddles that are made from their wrap fabric and they are the bomb. So stretchy. So silky. So perfect. And I don’t know if it’s still available but they collaborated with Rifle Paper Co. (a favorite of mine!) for a beautiful floral option!!!!

I’m reading some of the bow comments and I had to weigh in. I have six girls so I know a thing or two about bows. First of all…you will figure out what works for you. If a bow on your baby while she is swaddled is adorable to you, then you will put one on her. If it’s in the way and annoying and not worth the trouble you will find yourself not bothering. There is no rule. Or even a “thing” that people do. Everyone has their own routines just like with any other parenting thing. Second, if you want her to have all the girly things because…well…she’s a girl. You go right ahead. You do you. If you don’t care, then hand down all the boy things and live a happy life. She’s your baby. Third, bows are not dangerous, poisonous reptiles. They will not come and attack your baby and make her die. Use common sense (as I’m sure you would anyway). I never put my babies to sleep with their bows or headbands on. But did they wear them? Absolutely. Every time I woke them or was monitoring them I put one of those adorable things on their cute little bald noggin’s. You’re going to love having a girl!!! Don’t worry about what everyone else does because she’s your baby, not everyone else’s!!
Lindsay says
Love! I don’t have advice as I have 2 boys and 24 weeks pregnant with baby girl #1. However, I’ll for sure be embracing EVERY single bow and ALL the pink! All I can say is I always prefer swaddles with Velcro, since you can tighten them depending on how big or little the baby is. Congrats to you!!
Chelsey says
Anything you love is absolutly perfect and how it should be! Bows, flowers, hats, pink…bring it on and embrace this little lady!! It is not terribly gener specific, but I LOVED the Ollie wrap for swaddles. It grows with the baby so for the price and usage it is super economical. I cannot wait to see how this little girl grows with your family and all of the love she will receive from her brothers!!

I haven’t commented in a long time!!! BUT, my first was a girl, expecting a boy around the same time you are! Aden and anais are my go to swaddles (AND burp cloths). They have some really beautiful prints out right now. As for bows, I loved me some bows (got most of mine from amazon). But I didn’t put them on while swaddled/sleeping, only when out and about (and that was only occasionally) or for pictures. I lived in Texas when I had my daughter, and some mom’s loved to have a bow on the head at all times, but not so much for me (I don’t think I ever sent her to daycare in a bow, but other moms had their daughters dressed to the nines every day – to each her own). There are some very cute hats with bows on, which I would recommend. I got some cotton ones from Carters. Our girl was in the NICU for a while, so it helped us to “dress her up” a little bit in her hospital-issued swaddle, but really the only thing we could do was hats!!
Amy says
This girly momma only wears bows to dress up. I’ve noticed wearing a bow too often leaves a mark on her head or its too loose and falls down. Either way, cute but not comfortable! Our favorite swaddles are the Halo brand or Aiden and anais has princess themed swaddle blankets!
Megan says
Look at Little Unicorn! I also love florals on white backgrounds and I have a few different LU ones, in the bamboo, that are so sweet.
Jenae says
Have 2 girls ages 2 and 4. Put bows on them all the time! Matched to the outfit not the blanket for me. Mine were bald forever so it helped people know they we’re girls and personally I loved them! Thought they were cute 🙂 they make them in different sizes so if I ever noticed any sort of mark on their head I didnt use them. Have fun!!!

We loved our Ollie Swaddle – http://theollieworld.refr.cc/gingerh
Boy mom, but still liked all the prints of the A+A muslin, etc. But when it comes to baby sleep – the Ollie was THE ONE! You don’t have to buy different sizes, and it was the only one my kiddo didn’t houdini-himself out of. 🙂 Can’t wait to see all your girl accessories!

I’m not a girl mom, but I’ll chime in anyway =) Solly Baby swaddles are my favorite by far! They’re oversized, stretchy, lightweight and super soft. This season they have a gorgeous coral color called Tigerlily and a peony floral print that would be perfect for your baby girl: https://shop.sollybaby.com/collections/goodies/products/swaddle-set.

Someone bought us a Fawn and Sage swaddle as a gift for our most recent after I had ogled them on etsy (a boy – we started with 2 girls!), and if you have bigger babies, I wouldn’t recommend it. We slipped it on once for the “thank you!” photo for the gift giver and never again because he was too big from birth (10 lbs 2 oz) and it was super easy for him to get his hands out. It photographs really well, so if you want to get the matching bow set for newborn photography purposes, go for it. Just don’t expect it to be practical for everyday use.
Here’s the thing about baby girls and bows (from a seasoned girl mom – I have a 7 year old and a 2.5 year old) – you can put them on when they’re tiny, but they usually leave a mark on their head like their skull is being squeezed, so I tried to only do it briefly for photo ops. Then, when they’re bigger, they pull them off or pull them down around their necks like a necklace (which freaked me out when they were under 1 as I didn’t want them to accidentally strangle themselves). My 7 year old is just now getting to where she wants hair accessories on a regular basis and the 2.5 year old will wear things she wants to wear (which means the brightest, biggest bow that doesn’t remotely match her outfit and only on her terms). I’m from the south too, and have friends who enforce a “No bow, no go” rule on their girls, but that’s not my style. So, there ya go. I’d suggest having a few to play with and find your style with, but I wouldn’t do a major investment in all the things with all the bows quite yet.
Katie T says
Amen! Katie should live it up. I love dressing my two boys like boys and my baby girl like a girl. If you don’t thats cool but don’t try to put some guilt trip on Katie because she WANTS to!
On swaddles: I never bow my baby girl with swaddles or even at home much just for pictures and when we’re out. I was never good at keeping my babies swaddled with regular blankets so I loved any and all with Velcro. The swaddleme ones were my go to! There are these newish? Swaddles people swear by called The Nested Bean Zen swaddles that are slightly weighted and help with sleep! Wish I knew you in real life… I’d give you all my cute swaddles we’ve out grown
Martha says
I second Virginia’s comment!
Amie Melnychuk says
My ovaries explode every time I see the floral Fawn and Sage swaddles.
But, my second is a boy, not a girl 😉 So I’m eyeing the more masculine ones, but my babe is already too long for most swaddle sacks at 2 months!
Renee says
I have two girls and loved my aden and anais swaddling muslins, they’re floral too. I never matched headbands though, because I hated the little imprint it made on their heads. Not sure if you’ve heard of Baby Wisps, they’re little barrettes that will clip into baby hair. I thought they were so cute, and used them for my girls, and no weird head imprints, win win for this Mama!
