A New Color for our First Floor Bathroom Vanity

When I painted our vanity in our first floor bathroom red, I was sure that I would love it forever.  And the funny thing is….I still dig it.  I do.  In person it doesn’t read stop light red….it’s subdued and casual and because I did a glaze, it’s daresay….’farmhouse.

But once we had the tile in place, it felt like the vanity was gonna get all the attention.  It was the liquid lipstick on Kylie’s lips kinda attention….and I was looking for a space that felt clean and calm….not Jenner-esque…if you know what I mean….and I think you do 🙂  So I ran to my local home improvement store and picked up five samples of blues that I thought would play nicely with both my tiles and bridge the gap.

It’s hard to read the color accurately in that room so this one in the garage is much better.  The top left was one that I knew I wanted to try.  It’s Benjamin Moore’s Colorado Gray….the others I don’t know the names.  The one we ended up choosing was the bottom color which is Ovation by Behr.  It’s the only blue that read blue in the room.

The entire vanity was sanded down lightly with 120 sandpaper and I removed the knobs.  I think I will probably replace the hardware completely.

Then I gave the entire thing two coats of the Ovation in semigloss.  It was hard to avoid the hinges so I just decided to do my best and then remove them later to strip off the paint.

Once that was done, Jeremy and I headed to a local stone countertop place called A Polished Finish.  It’s owned by friends named Mark and Brittany and Mark and Jeremy used to work out together before Mark busted his knee and Jeremy got old 🙂

A Polished Finish also does cabinetry so of course, it was fun to see a bunch of different cabinet door colors and peek in on the woodworkers doing their thang during our visit.  You know me….nosey Nancy asking questions 🙂 After a quick tour of the countertop options, we found a remnant piece of cararra marble that would work perfectly.  We decided that one end of it would work better colorwise…so they marked the end we wanted too.  After picking an edge and dropping off the existing top and bowl, we were good to go.

A couple days later A Polished Finished crew came to install the top and it was perfect!

Since space was already tight on the backside of the sink (between the bowl and the wall) we are so glad that we nixed the idea of an additional backsplash and went with it straight to the arabesque tile.  Jeremy installed the faucet the next day and it is really starting to look SO GOOD.

I am still hunting the right mirror for above the sink (it’s REALLY tall….50″ so if you see one with an arched top, please let me know!).  And I ordered three options for the lights….we are gonna hold them up and see what works and return the rest.

But already I can tell that it’s looking so much better.  And maybe one of these days I can get a shot of this space without all the weird lighting so you can see the actual colors 🙂

But that’s our update!  We still have to reinstall the toilet, finish spackling and caulking the walls, painting the trim, painting the walls and installing the lights and mirror…..but after that….we nap and REVEAL!!!
