It’s that time of month again Ladies! No….not the one that has you reaching for the chocolate and the heating pad….it’s fashion finds time! And this past Decembre (that’s fancy for December) I actually got dressed a lot 🙂 yay me!
So basically this is where I throw all self-insecurities to the wind and I get in front of the camera to share with you fellow mama’s some of my favorite things to wear. No, I don’t think I am a model. No, I don’t have the body of a twenty year old. I am just a mom who lives in a rural town that has one clothing store – TJMaxx and so I order 98% of my clothes and this is where I share what works and what is my style. Some of you may be confused….thinking maybe this was a strictly DIY blog….well, I’ve been pregnant for what seems like FOREVER….so you can understand my excitement that I am getting to break out the non-maternity wear…..at least until the baby fever strikes again 🙂
For those of you that are new to the fashion posts, I am 5’7″ and have a pear body shape. I like things loose and comfortable and bend-over-able….I do have lots of little ones I’m chasing so nobody needs to see the backside of my barn 🙂 My style is a little bit of everything….preppy, boho and rustic. I like girly details but I also like sporty ones. I’m complicated like that.
For more details on the individual items, I put the links below each outfit photo of the individual pieces. Try to avoid clicking the “P” icon that pops up – otherwise you are just gonna be pinning it for later 🙂 My best tip is to click the upper corners for the direct link.
This striped cardigan is a favorite right now….especially with pockets. I mean….pockets are EVERYTHING. I constantly need a pocket and I can never have too many. This cardigan is so cozy and the best length. I have about ten long cozy cardigans and this one is one of the best. Promise you won’t regret it.
Tshirts are underrated….and this one is the start of an obsession. I got it in this pink color and pair it with a lace extender and it’s pretty much perfect. I can’t wait to order it in a few more colors!
This outfit was my favorite from this past month. It has everything that I like….stretchy jeans, layers, boots and a few girly touches. You will probably see these jeans a few more times….they are the distressed version of the Sarah skinny jeans and I can’t recommend them enough. If you snagged them before they sold out, you were lucky! I just ordered another pair with no distressing….here is the link 🙂 Be on the lookout for those in the future months!
Hitting the football fields with my kids requires a couple things….stretchy jeans, a cross body bag and Hunters. Also – the combo of cardigan with scarves is a sure-fire way to look pulled together….even though you are literally telling kids to not eat crumbled candy off the ground 🙂
Also – if you like stripes like me but don’t like that they make you look wider….you can pair them with a cardigan and break up that horizontal effect.
Another look at that lace extender….just so that you can see it in another combo. I like having non-fitted sweaters extend even longer with these because they will hit my legs at their thinnest point…which is way more flattering.
I’ve been wearing these sateen pants and feel like they should be a staple in your wardrobe…I know they are in mine. Basically anytime I’m wearing chambray or navy, I skip the jeans and go straight for these.
I am on board with the statement-making necklaces and I am searching for more! I love the warmth of this one and now I am actively searching for more for the collection. This one is great because it has a bit of gold and the little ‘crystals’ are cooler…so it goes with pretty much everything.
Christmas outfit at it’s best. It feels so classic! But honestly, the scarf is the only Christmas-y bit and I can switch that out faster than you can say accessories! The real thing I wanna give a shout out to in this outfit is tunic-style sweaters. If you are looking for additions to your mom wardrobe….you need to look at adding tunic-style sweaters. They are cozy and flattering and modest for all the moments you need to pick up little ones.
Baseball field practice is super comfortable in kicks and a loose sweater! The shoes are vintage style which is what I LOVE. They are perfect for casual sporting events and for chasing the toddlers. They are true to size. And on sale! If you are looking for some sneakers in your collection…these are great for around town! And the price is really too good for sneakers.
Old Navy has this sweater again in a ton of colors (I own it in this blue and in the coral color) and it fits very loose. I am wearing a Medium. I love it for the post-holiday outfits when we all crave a bit of color in our lives 🙂
This duster is from Target and I literally can not stop wearing it. I will probably wear it out before this year is over! I dressed it up with this necklace and kept the rest of the outfit really casual. It was perfect for dinner with the family….felt dressy enough but still kept the cozy factor super high. I mean….is there anything more comfortable than flats with stretchy pants?
With all the muddy weather lately, I have broken out my Hunter boots and I can’t sing their praises enough. Okay…so a little backstory. I bought so many pairs of ‘wellies’ or ‘waterproof boots’ or whatever….but all of them have failed me. So I splurged and bought these so that I could go through the woods or in the backyard and not worry about my feet getting wet. These are just loose enough for me to get my pants in them (I have a bigger-than-average calf) and hit just under the knee.
Also – if you have a need for work wear….I love these tops. This royal blue one is the same as the striped one from the football fields…just in a different color. It’s great tucked in or let out….and it’s great to pair it with a cardigan. Very flattering and the price is right too 🙂
This top from Anthropologie and it’s like my lumpy midsection’s BFF. It is flowy and has lots of beaded details at the top and it’s under $30. I would definitely size down because I got a Medium and it is very loose.
That duster again! This time I paired it with a purple sleeveless top from Anthro….also on sale and also runs big. I’m obsessed with this outfit but next time I am gonna pair it with a black tank underneath because I don’t like it drawing any attention to my midsection when I don’t feel like sucking it in 🙂 Those holes are see-through so you definitely need a tank! But the stitching is beautiful and it’s casual enough for all the mom-errands 🙂
So many of you ask about this bag….I’ve talked about it before and it really is a must-have for anytime I need both hands on the go. And I love the booties that match. The bag is big enough to hold a wallet and a diaper and some wipes and your phone…so just big enough!
I found a source for this sweater and I LOVE the preppy pattern. It runs true to size. It’s a thin sweater but tunic length and it’s actually funny how hard those are to find! Also – this scarf. It’s the warmest and coziest one ever and it makes me feel super-chic. The shoes I talked about last month and they are still a favorite 🙂
Okay guys – that is the whole month of fashion in one post! And if you are wanting a sneak peek of what I squeezed my mom-bod into this coming month….here are some of the items….Happy Shopping 🙂

I love reading your style posts! I hope this isn’t too weird of a question- I know you wrote about having a c-section; when were you able to wear regular pants afterwards? I had a baby via c-section 4 months ago and I’m still in maternity leggings or sweatpants because of the sensitivity of my scar and damage to my abs. It’s hard to believe I’ll be in regular pants again someday but your posts give me hope. Thanks for sharing your style advice!

Just awesome. Thank you for linking to these versus doing the like to know it link which was messing with my instagram logins. 😉 I adore the outfits and can’t believe how you put them together so nicely. I wouldn’t think to pair some of those, but they look awesome! So spill it, do you photoshop your face for blemishes? Would love to hear your makeup routine. Thank you for pairing style and function in everything you do!!!!!!!

Hi Katie,
I started following your blog because of the home diys but I’m digging these fashion posts too. I ordered the Sarah skinny jeans after you recommended them (they are on their way, I hope I love them too). I also have ‘larger than normal’ calves so I appreciated the openness about your calves 🙂 and it helped me find some new skinny jeans. Thank you! -Susan

I just wanted to say Thank You and Please keep being you and posting things that are relevant to your life. I found your blog and via YHL and started following you because of your DIY posts years ago but as the years have gone by there has become so much more content that you provide that is now relevant to my life too. In the past few years my husband has started working from home, and we went from me working full time traveling to Toronto once a month for a project that’s now complete to me transitioning to an at home mom with my career in what I call a Sabattical stage with an unknown timeframe with us having surprise twins this past year bringing not only our kid, but our boy count to 4 all 5 years and under…. I completely understand the new mom body and that dressing it comes with new challenges both for your body and for the unknown activities that may include watching tv snuggling on the couch to sprinting after a toddler as they try to escape at the park or in a parking lot or in my case as you’re standing in the check out at target so you have to get your very pregnant (with twins) body into a run (ok fast walk) to try to catch him all the while wondering why no one stops him….why did no one stop him, lol….. I digress, I’d love to continuing seeing these posts and your day in the life, even more specifically how do you handle your boyfriend working from home with you all there, to parenting challenges like how do you handle the parenting of 4 boys with such different personalities and therefore possibly different parenting needs etc. And of course your awesome DIY posts 🙂 From one all boy mom to another

I had a lot of sensitivity too! And a lot of mental weirdness about that area….I kept on fearing that my seam would bust open 🙁 Yes it was completely closed but even months later I had dreams about that. Anyhoo…I can’t recommend enough THESE jeggings if you are in that spot of post-maternity clothing. They have a wide waistband and are super comfortable. Plus, they are labeled as normal non-maternity so they can help transition you to those ‘regular’ pants 🙂

Haha! I wish I had a filter for those under eye wrinkles! Man those are my nemesis! And yes, maybe sometime I will do a full makeup routine…it’s nothing special…but it does make me feel human 🙂

Aww Lindsey – thank you! That is seriously the sweetest comment because you shared so much of your own self. I completely get it. Well…not the twin thing but the pregnant in check out line thing for sure 🙂 We will be sure to add so much more of the personal stuff this year. It’s some of my favorites 🙂

Hi Katie – that lace extender is so cute!!!! I am kind of afraid of getting it since I am older (almost 58 yelp) and maybe it would look too cutsey on me??? I wear a size 12 and a large in tops and let’s just say that menopause is in full effect :(:( Every outfit looks amazing on you. Thanks so much for all these fun fashion posts, I am loving it.

My personal opinion is that if you love it, you should wear it. I could totally see my mom wear a black one (she wears a lot of black!) and she is older than you 🙂

You have the best hair. Especially in the up close pic of you in the purple top. You should tell us how you do your hair like that.
