DISCLAIMER: Thank you Boxed for sponsoring this post. While this was a sponsored opportunity from Boxed, all content and opinions expressed here are my own.
I have been so excited to share this post with you…it’s like when someone goes vegan and they can’t stop talking about it. Or those CrossFit fanatics who tell you all about PR-ing whats-her-face. That is me right now…telling you with the upmost enthusiasm about Boxed. Again. Because it is that good.
First of all…Boxed is an online warehouse…they sell bulk pantry and household items. You might know of other big-box stores where you pay a membership to buy bulk foods and items and you can save because you are buying ninety candy bars vs. two. Same idea except this is online and you don’t pay a membership fee and they ship it directly to your house. Since we don’t have a nearby wholesale store (#countryproblems), this is a heaven-sent angel.
Sometimes people are like…dude this is sponsored and you don’t really use it, do you?!
Oh heck yeah. This is my jam people. I have shopped for beach supplies while sitting on my sofa. I have gotten baseball team snacks while waiting for my chicken dinner to be served. I have bought shampoo, paper towels and organic veggie chips while taking a bath. Try to do that while in a store. I dare you.
Of course I was introduced to it as a sponsored post and I am so thankful because now I use it four to six weeks to get our snacks and toiletries.
And every single time I use Boxed, I know I am saving time, money and energy. My number one problem with going to the grocery store for basics is that I have so many freaking kids. And they want to play! They want to eat the cookies! They want all. the. toys. And I end up being less than stellar as a mom when it comes to checkout. DEAR LORD THE CHECKOUT! I have the five year old pushing the stroller with the two babies, I’m holding Weston like a football, and the cart is overflowing because the diapers take up 99% of the space.
Ordering online is SO much easier. I can get the basics and have them delivered to my doorstop. My kids get to play in the new toy…aka the big box…and I have my sanity so that when it comes time to buy fresh produce and meats and cheeses at my local grocery store, I have the room in the cart and the energy to do it.
Last time I talked about Boxed, I compared them and the cost to the other wholesale stores and their prices. You can read about that here.
This time I thought it would be more practical to compare it to my local grocery stores. That is where I shop so that makes sense. Why would I buy something online if it doesn’t actually save me money?! I hit up Publix and Kroger and Walmart (those are the closest grocery stores I would consider going to). I first ordered a bunch of snacks from Boxed and then I went to each place and jotted down the prices. Photographic evidence of me in Publix….
And at Kroger….
Will was my shopping buddy and we searched out the twelve items that we snagged in our latest Boxed order and wrote down all the prices…it was beneficial for him because he got practice calling out the numbers and I got to compare all the prices on the following twelve items. (click the product graphic for a direct link)
Did you see? Boxed was actually cheaper (or the same price) ON EVERY SINGLE ITEM. That blew my mind. I was so surprised because I thought for sure it would be a draw.
Also, I am so glad that buying online helps me avoid this….the never-ending “take a picture for Santa” routine. That is literally the best thing I ever did and it requires me to have so much patience in the store. I told Will that we don’t buy toys in the store….we take a photo of them and send them to Santa and grandparents…so now every time we hit ANY store, he wants to take photos of all the things his little heart desires. He gladly puts them away and doesn’t cry when he doesn’t get to buy it (BEST THING EVER) but sometimes I don’t want to whip out the phone and fill it up with monster truck photos (SERENITY NOW!)
I will have to admit, I did get weirdly excited that there were Star Wars displays out….
But let’s get back to it…
the point of this homework was if I had bought the same exact items and amounts at other stores, Boxed would have saved me money. Boxed wins hands down. I know that some of you probably are concerned that I didn’t coupon. Well, I don’t have time for that. I have four kids ages five and under. Sharp objects are not allowed in my house. The crazy thing is, this comparison is probably even more skewed against Boxed because they offer extras like coupon codes and goodie bags and free face wipes with your shampoo purchase. It’s the little things!
I know that it sounds too good to be true but honestly this is one of those deals that is just plain awesome. They saved me money on the items, gas money, time and energy in a store, plus there is no membership fee, free shipping on orders over $65 and have great products. They even have a wide range of all-natural, organic, and special diet snacks and groceries. So if you are gluten or dairy free…they even have options for you!
Do you get it now? Do you see why I am so excited to share this with you? SAVINGS! And if you don’t believe me…just do the math. And if you are a fan of saving…here is a way to do it even more…use the code BOXEDBP and you can receive 15% off plus free shipping with a minimum $65 order, expires 12/31/2015! Happy savings!

According to your chart, not every single item was cheaper at Boxed. The second item on your list, the Organics (applesauce?) was 10 cents more at Boxed than at Kroger. But this is still impressive!

You got me hooked on Boxed with the original post! I LOVE LOVE LOVE IT!! Best thing ever. I get TP, paper towels, peanut butter, k-cups, dishwasher tabs, aluminum foil… It’s fantastic. And I get a handwritten thank you on my packing slip every time. Thanks for sharing!!!
J Keesee says
We started using BOXED after you first posted about it. IT IS WONDERFUL! Saves us a lot of time and the convenience of having everything delivered to MY FRONT DOOR is fantastic. Added bonus: my kids love playing in the giant boxes after I’ve emptied the loot 🙂

I have already loaded up my cart, because we are out of so much and it is so hard for us to plan a trip to the “club” store.
Also, I LOVE the picture idea! I am starting that during the next shopping trip. Genius!
Jessie G. says
Now I wonder how they compare to Amazon… Thanks for th details, Katie!
Bethany says
I just did a cost comparison of a pack of 24 bags of goldfish crackers…$8.49 on Boxed, $15.74 on Amazon!! Holy cow!
Katie says
Oh I wonder too!!!

Megan says
I saw that, too. But you also have to factor in that they limit you to two at that price. I suppose that may have something to do with it?
Lindsey says
I placed my first order with Boxed a couple of months ago and compared most of my items, before I purchased, with Amazon. Boxed won almost every single time and usually by a decent margin. For example, Boxed ran out of Johnson & Johnson Baby Wash, but had Aveeno Baby. I checked the price of the Johnson & Johnson on Amazon, and it was the same price as the Aveeno per oz!
yasmara says
If you use ebates, Boxed is on there, only a 2% rebate, but still!
Jana H. says
Just wondering…do they apply sales tax? Because if they don’t, that would save even MORE money. 😀
Leslie Morse says
You may have just changed my life forever because of this post! Thank you! I am trying it out now – so far, I am happy with what I see.
Jen says
For anyone who uses it, you also get 2% cash back with Ebates through Boxed. Yet another reason we love Boxed in our house!
Kate says
The code doesn’t seem to be working – do you know if there is a problem with it?
Erika says
Oooh I love things shipped to my doorstep! My only problem is that it’s just me, and I usually don’t have room to stock pile stuff.
But I might check this out for toilet tissue and paper towels, if nothing else.
Thanks for sharing!
ps – I have to got to remember the “santa picture” if I ever have kids…brilliant!!

Another great sponsored post! I have done Le Tote 3x and love it. I can see like Boxed too. Good relevant selection Katie!
Heather says
This looks great! I would love to know diaper secrets and where/if you shop inadvertently quantities! You’re an awesome mom-thank you for sharing things that work for you. Sponsored and all-I love them!!
Heather says
That was supposed to say I’m *large quantities 🙂 – Mom of 3 under 4!
Christa says
Just checked out their website and made my first purchase. Thanks for sharing these money savings tips. I also compared Boxed to Amazon and Boxed was cheaper with most items.
Karen T. says
I’ve never even heard of them…I’m intrigued! Thanks for sharing…checking them out now!
Sarah says
Will definitely check this out. I’ve used Amazon subscribe and save for diapers and wipes (and now many other products – cereal, baby food, granola bars, dish soap, etc) for seven years now. For diapers and wipes, Amazon used to have an even better discount, but they are still cheaper than our grocery store and there is the huge huge plus of them being delivered to my house.
Cindy says
Not to be picky but the first poster is correct the comparison of the Apple & Eve boxed juice shows Boxed as more. I think you might want to edit your post to say that almost every item was cheaper or perhaps your chart is incorrect. I don’t know because I didn’t feel like doing the math.
Maria says
This is a great comparison of regular stores, but I’d love to see a comparison to Sam’s or Costco — since Boxed advertises itself as a warehouse store, shouldn’t we be comparing it to other warehouse stores?
Leah says
Thanks Katie! You convinced me! Placing my first order NOW! Yay for mommas saving money! 🙂
Kyley & Ammo the Dachshund says
I started using boxed after your last post. So easy especially when I get low on toilet paper or paper towels for my home or business. It’s worth it not to have to go to the store ….I avoid grocery shopping like the plague if I can!
Katie says
Yes but the quantity was not available at that price. Once I add in the regular price for the additional boxes it would be higher than the Boxed price…does that make sense?

WHAT?? How I never heard of this? We just drug our three little boys to Costco this weekend (which is always an adventure and requires a whole cart just for kids) and everything except for meat and egg whites that we buy there is on the Boxed site! I am SO excited about this!! Thank you for sharing! 🙂
Meghan N says
I have a costco membership and there are several things on boxed that I purchase regularly at costco and the price is the same- items off hand that I know are diapers and the organic applesauce pouches. My biggest complaint is that the selection is small- and items are out of stock. I can see how this would be beneficial to those who don’t have a warehouse close.
Julia says
Hi Christa – so glad you’ve tried us out, enjoy your order! Please let me know if there’s anything we can do for you!
Julia says
Thrilled to hear it, I’m the same! Please let me know if there’s anything we can do for you at Boxed. P.S. your doxie is the cutest!!!
Katie says
I did that last time! Here is the post about it.

I actually like the sponsored content just as much as I like the non sponsored. I know some others do too. We do limit to one per week (we are on week 38 of the year and we have only done about 26 sponsored posts so far) so we do try to make sure it is majority of non-sponsored because I know some folks are in the non-sponsored camp. We also try very hard to make sure it is relevant and stuff we ACTUALLY use and love. Hope you understand that these posts keep Bower Power FREE to read and are clearly labeled at the top so feel free to skip them!

Tried it out and loved it. We live in the country too and 3 young kids at the warehouse store is a chore. Tried it our ordering paper towels, toliet paper and snacks. We received our order the NEXT day!
Emily says
Alright, all the comments here convinced me… I’m gonna try it! Even if I can’t get all my groceries through them, I can at least get some of the essentials, so I’ll save a bit of money and have a few less bags to carry in when I go “real” grocery shopping. I can’t really see a downside.
Kate says
Thank you so much for doing this Boxed sponsored post!! I finally got around to placing my first order. It sounds way too good to be true, prob wont believe it until i get the boxes! 🙂 The closestCostco or Sams, etc, is 3 hours away! Read you all the time, Katie, and never left a comment until today.
Karina says
Interesting to see how much cheaper it is than Amazon. I wonder how it compares to the new bulk shopping site, Jet.com, though? Has anyone done a comparison there?
