I have only five minutes to do this post. I’m in a rush. Babies are bound to be crying in four point eight minutes. Medication needs to be distributed and noses will need squigied. Is that a word?
Oh wait I can not think about that right now. I’m down to four.
So this past weekend we hosted our first pumpkin painting party. It was a blast. A very delicious blast. I’ll tell ya all about it later.
Our mailbox was broken. I didn’t realize it because Jeremy is the one that checks the mail. When it is closed, it was deceivingly functional. When it was open, notsomuch.
The little hinge rivet was rusted and broke off leaving our door hanging out. literally.
The last time we were at Home Depot we picked up one of these little binding posts and screws. It is basically a girl part and a boy part. Sorry to get all birds-and-the-bees on ya mom. But it is the best description. The little screw looks like your average screw…it has a head that will fit a flathead screwdriver. The binding post is the girl…it has a hole. The screw goes into the hole and screws in. Again. sorry.
So all I did was close the mailbox lid and put the binding post in through both metal holes and then used the screw to attach it all the way. I just used my fingers to twist it most of the way and double checked it later with a screw driver.
Apparently my skin is so white that I am literally fading into the color of air. must. get. tan.
thirty seconds.
Now our mailbox is completely functional once again. Thank goodness for the easy fixes…they keep me sane. I still need to fix the sign now…it got all beat up and scratched with the swinging door. But I’m running out of tim….

I googled “squigied” since my curiosity gets the best of me and you were fifth in the results. There wasn’t even an urban dictionary submission for it. What kind of bologna is that!? On a positive note, I now dub thee creator of Squgied. 😉

The binding posts are cute! I must have it.

I just wanted to say, I love reading your blog!! You are absolutely hysterical and you write so well. I also love that you keep it real and your house-decorating talents are beyond amazing. I love that new RH inspired brick wall! Wow. So clever and it’s awesome that Jeremy is so willing to help you with your ideas and projects. Congrats on baby #3 too! We have 3 little boys who keep life a little TOO interesting sometimes but it’s awesome nonetheless! ;o) Looking forward to keeping up with your pregnancy, boys, and beautiful house!

Did you mean to leave your house number in the photo? I can’t tell if you photoshopped it with another number. Last time you blurred it out.
chelsie says
Hey, I’m a major worry wort and wonder if maybe those number beneath your mailbox should be blurred out. There be crazies out there. Aside from that, I hope the littles get well soon!!

Thank you! Our mailbox door is literally hanging by a (screw) thread. I might even stop on the way home today and get these. I also read this post really fast, because we’re in a hurry with you. Hope the babes are better soon!
Alison says
Don’t feel weird about using ‘girl’ and ‘boy’ to describe the screws, plumbing fixtures use the terms ‘female end’ and ‘male end’ to describe how they fit together. So there you go!

As a mother of a child under 1, with a non-public family only blog that hasn’t been updated since umm May, I’m amazed you were able to make this blog update in only 5 minutes! 🙂

I love how your mailbox is inside the column thingamabob. Way cool!
(I also read this as if you were saying it really fast!)

Are we EVER going to find out if the new addition is a little lady or a little gentleman????
Kat says
You could have saved a lot of time not taking pictures of and writing about a mailbox fix. It made me LOL. 🙂
Hope to see more pics of your pumpkin party!
