I love this craft. Seriously – if you have a girls group or a little bit of time with your sister – you must must MUST makeover some dollar store nutcrackers. If you don’t have a sister, a soul sister or blood sister or whatever….a brother will do. Just make sure you feed him first 🙂
This is such an easy and fun craft that my sister and I made a video just for you all about it. Be warned that the Bloopers kinda turned into PG-13 rated sister banter where we tried to gross each other out. It happens. Sorry mom.
If you are attempting this project at home, it’s easy to use just regular ole craft paint to get to this point of the craft before doing any embellishments…
Then use paint pens or small brushes for the rest. I liked the fact that we went with a central theme when it came to colors. Mostly white and gold with splashes of pink, minty blue and black.
We also repurposed the beard to make it into a fun girly skirt. I just hot glued it onto the bottom after the paint was dry.
Overall – they turned out so cute and I am so happy that I got to spend the time with Lori (we call her Nornie) so that we could make something cute for her daughter Isla (we call her Yaya).
Just so you see what these look like for scale…
Okay so who plans on making these? Do you see me raising my hand? That’s right….I can not WAIT to do some more for the boys….something more modern but still adorable.
Happy crafting y’all!

What a brilliant idea! I love this craft. Your finished nutcrackers look perfect where you have photographed them on the table. Great idea!

Omg, I love these! I actually have a huge collection of nutcrackers (fancier ones and some small, dollar store ones), but my 22 month old is TERRIFIED of them, lol. Maybe this is the makeover to calm his fears? Haha, either way, totally doing this…next year of course, when I have more time! 😉

Bahahaha! Your face in the still (is that what it’s called?) is my favorite part of the whole thing. Except for the craft. Maybe. That’s debatable.

They are pretty. I have a1000 (that is right). I never thought of repainting them. I buy used or given to me damaged & I fix them. I replace heads, what ever is needed on top of head, hands, legs, feet, arms, bases & arm for cracking nuts & paint to match. Also what ever they are holding if I can find out what they are to-be holding or make up my own.

Love these Nutcracker Ladies! I’m going to do them with my art class friends at our annual Christmas Luncheon at my house.
I had to go to 3 dollar stores to find them. But, success on the 3rd store.

Wahooo! I’d love to see them!
