Everyone always asks me if we are gonna try for number five. More specifically, everyone asks me if we are gonna try for a GIRL for number five. I try to keep things light (I mean…we don’t have control over what we have or do not have!) and usually I reply….why would I do that when I have such a great little boy wardrobe?!
Which is totally true by the way….the boys have a great little wardrobe and I love being able to purchase cute clothing and know that if it’s Will’s size that it will make it all the way down through all four boys. A lot of people ask me how I keep their clothing so clean….and make it last even with the mud fights and the food shears and the inevitable EVERYTHING that ends up on their clothing. Well…it’s the same way I keep the couch clean and the same way I washed the cloth diapers….I am diligent about using the right product….that product being Oxi-Clean.
At the risk of sounding like a full out commercial…I must tell you that I really do love this product. I have used it for a long time and will continue to buy it and use it for every load of laundry. That’s the long and the short of it.
And because I am such a fan of regular Oxi-Clean, when I was asked to try out their White Revive stain remover, I was really excited to give it a spin (get it?! spin?! spin cycle?! yeah…um…ok.)
I decided that round one of testing would be with a easy white load….our bath towels.
You should always add the powder first to the washer. Know that. Cheesy poses with the Oxi-Clean is totally optional.
Of course, I am not used to someone taking my photo during chore time so it was completely laughable.
In the end, I am really happy with the way the towels turned out. Even the hand towels that tend to be a little more dingy looking later were just as white and bright as the regular bath towels.
Then I decided to test it on round two….fresh stains. The back of the container said it would be no problem on food messes.
Well if someone asks for food messes….I can definitely deliver that. Or maybe I should say that Weston can deliver that 🙂
My little Munchkin can make a mess of clothing faster than you can say “red popsicles”. Seriously though…red popsicles are the worst. They stain hands and faces and shirts like CRAZY. And of course…Weston loves them.
This was a relatively fresh stain….it had dried on the shirt but was less than a few hours old when I stripped it off of him and decided to test out the White Revive.
Basically you just do a big bowl of warm water and a scoop of the Oxi-Clean.
It makes a fun fizzing cloud when they are mixed together.
Then you just pop in the shirt for 1-6 hours.
I decided to do the ‘dunk method’ to see if it was actually working and it definitely lightened after ten dunks.
I let this shirt soak for one hour while being fully submerged.
And when it came time to throw it in the wash….I was really excited. Two toned shirts like this are not bleach-able and so this might have been an epic stain.
After it was washed and dried, it was as good as new. Seriously I may have thrown the shirt at Jeremy and said WE FOUND A NEW BEST FRIEND.
But then came test number three….non fresh stains. You see…we have this issue with jammies. A lot of the boys jammies have colored necks and arms but the shirt itself is white. You can’t bleach those because it will mess up the colored bits…but they NEED a revival on the white bits.
These shirts literally have been in our laundry pile for weeks. I wait until the very last minute to tackle them because it means scrubbing by hand.
Well….I was ecstatic to try out the White Revive on them. I jammed them all down into one bowl and let them soak for four hours.
Seriously….this product = my new best friend. I love it. It delivered and I can skip the scrubbing! ***ANGELS SING***
Crazy huh? And because I know that there will be some doubters out there…let me tell you…don’t knock it until you rock it. Seriously. Just because this is a sponsored post…don’t let it deter you from the truth….which is this stuff really REALLY works. And just remember that I get all the credit when you try it and your kid’s are all like, hey mom, thanks for the new wardrobe! And you will be like, it’s not new….I just made all your clothes look like new….and then you high five and your kids bring you a juice box because you rock 🙂
Jaclyn says
Do you put the powder in the washing machine drum area? Or where the soap goes?
Bridget Peller says
I am enjoying every post you write.
At our house, when the kids were little, I saved popsicles for bathtime. Theu all loved having a treat in the tub and i loved the self-cleaning nature of it all!
Amanda says
Ah! I am excited about this. Does it also work on sweat stains or bodily fluid stains (ie: diaper situations)? I hate the bleach conundrum.
Jana H. says
Hey, Katie. I hate to be one of “those” people but…Is there any way you might consider changing the font style/size back to what it was? Or at least making it larger? I couldn’t even read the post because it’s so tiny and the new style is just overall hard on my eyes. I realize I could adjust the page resolution to make it larger but then the photos would be disproportionate. Again, I hate being one of “those” people…complainers. I love your blog and enjoy reading it…even your sponsored posts are fun. I just can read this particular font very well. 🙁
Christi {Jealous Hands} says
I am a longtime believer in/user of oxiclean (well, actually I use Sun which is much cheaper & works every bit as well). It TRULY does work as well as these pictures show! My boys play travel baseball and the uniforms look ready for the trash after every game. With Oxi they look brand new (white pants!) EVERY time they take the field.
Cheryl says
So did the Dino shirt with the neon green not get clean so you showed a different shirt? Or did the shirt change graphics and trim and sleeves in the OxyClean? 😉
Amy says
Strange question – but I assume you do LOTS of laundry! I feel like my boys clothes fade and look worn so quickly, even washing in cold water and drying on delicate. I’ve been using All Free and Clear so I can wash everyone’s clothes at the same time, even the baby’s. What detergent do you use?
Tricia R says
This comment is not sponsored! I, too, love Oxi Clean. I don’t always use it but I do like to let whites soak in it whenever they’re looking dingy. I love it for sweat stains and just making the whites brighter. I also use it for my white shower curtain which inevitably gets mildew.
Cat @ MaryMarthaMama says
This looks awesome! Do any of your boys have sensitive skin? I’ve got one boy with super sensitive skin so I’m hesitant to try new things but it looks like it works so well that it’s tempting!
Katie says
Weston does have sensitive skin…and so we do not use fabric softener on their clothes and do an extra rinse in the cycle. That seems to do the trick!

Katie says
We use Tide and use hot water on all the boys clothing. It does tend to fade certain items a little but I would rather have faded and unstained than bright with stains. I guess it’s the price we pay.

Katie says
Ha! No…I just didn’t remember which shirts I photographed in the beginning!

Yes! I used it on a blow out and it was great!

Hi Katie! I agree with Amanda – except I read yesterday’s post on my phone and loved the font – it made reading on a tiny screen easier. But I read today’s post on my computer and the font was really hard to read (and it is really hard to read when writing a comment!). I don’t know if you can do differ fonts for the different versions?
Katie says
I wish I knew how to do that 🙁

I use OxiClean on all of my tablecloths – most of which are embroidery done by my grandmother and great-grandmother. When I moved into my new apartment, one of them got attacked by a wicked case of mildew, and a soak and wash in OxiClean took it right out! Now I use it for all of our towels and our whites. Love it!
wendy says
Just a quick reply to the commenter above about sensitive skin–I tried OxiClean for my boys’ laundry, both of whom have very sensitive skin. It burned my hands when I soaked their soccer clothes in water . . . tried a different strategy of putting directly into drum as suggested above and rinsing twice as well to avoid further issue. Both boys ended up with terrible itchy and raised rashes on their skin after using only 1/2 the amount suggested . . . and they are ages 7 and 14! Only used it that one time and have had no such rashes again. Just please, please, please (as with any new laundry product) make sure that you closely watch–especially with precious little ones.

I LOVE OxyClean, but have never tried the White Revival. We usually use the Free because I’ve got a baby. However, it hasn’t worked quite as well now that he’s started solid foods (hello carrots & mangos), so I’m going to pick up some of this tonight! Which one would you use on blowout stains? They tend to happen at daycare, which means they aren’t washed right away.
Pamela says
I am amazed that you have white shirts for your boys. I never have anything but clothes the color of dirt, and still they get stained. Oxi-Clean has always come to the rescue, but those little tiny tubs??? I go through Costco-sized boxes a couple times a year. This “White Revive” has piqued my interest. Does it come in Costco-sized boxes?
Kelly Jean says
Amen! You have been on a roll lately!
Loving it all.
Molly O. says
Blow out…Haha! Cracking myself up here. I am well past diaper days with my boys, and the first image that came to my mind when I read “blow out” was when you get your hair dried by a professional, like at The Dry Bar., and I couldn’t figure out what Oxi-Clean had to do with that.
Oxi-Clean is still a part of my arsenal in the Laundry Room. Great post!
Krista says
When you use this on your cloth diapers, do you soak them in a bowl prior to washing, or just add it with detergent to your machine? I have a few stains that I have not been able to get out, but am going to give this a try!
Wendy says
What’s the difference between this and the regular oxi clean?
Paula says
Hey Katie. I have always enjoyed reading your blog, but lately something has started to bother me. It’s the great number of sponsored posts. I went back a few pages, and here’s what I noticed:
OxiClean (Sponsored)
Wedding
Snacks (Sponsored)
Wedding
Painters Pens (Sponsored)
Nautical Numbers
Rustic Cakestand
Guest bedroom (Sponsored)
Rustoleum deck (Sponsored)
Rustoleum deck (Sponsored)
Rustoleum deck (Sponsored)
New Guestroom w/floors (Sponsored)
And after this 2 more Rustoleum deck posts. I was kind of tired after this, so I didn’t scroll back any further, but the number of sponsored posts is kind of discouraging. I understand you and your husband are trying to make money off the blog, but the quality and integrity aren’t the same with all those sponsored posts. I really enjoy the day to day life/house projects far more then ‘these are great snacks for the pool’ posts.
I hope you understand and that this is helpful feedback!

What is it about boy #2 and clothes?! Same problem here! We are down to half the amount of size 3t shirts because he is so rough on clothes…and everything else! Lol. Guess little brother has some new clothes to look forward to!
My boys had on nice clothes and decided to make a mud slide in our yard. I soaked the clothes overnight in Oxiclean and they came out good as new! I was certain I’d be throwing them out.
Do you have luck soaking their clothes in the regular Oxiclean for colored shirts that have stains (usually looks like grease stains)?
Beth says
Preach Mama….Oxiclean is the bomb!
Kate says
I actually soak anything I need done overnight in the sink or tub with Oxi, as opposed to the washing method. It’s much better than bleach for really soiled whites. I’m such a sucker for a good before and after.
Just wondering- are you still cloth diapering? I’ve even use it on my CDs every six months or so to brighten them back up.
Jessica Holmes says
Laundry update please…?! 😉 xx
Kathryn says
I’m a new mommy to my precious 5 week old son and was wondering who better to ask than you – what are your go to clothing brands /retailers for boy clothes?
Gina says
Our daughter just told me the kids’ shower curtain is gross-now I know what I am gonna try, didn’t want to shred it to pieces soaking it in bleach 🙂
Amy says
Thank you for showing this! I have always wondered if this stuff worked, but haven’t wanted to buy a whole tub just to try it out. I have three little boys and their clothes always get stained with food. Have you ever had any success removing stains from clothes that have already been washed and dried?
Jessica says
Hello!
How does it work on baby clothes? I’m thinking super-set in spit-up stains.
Amanda says
We just started using 1/2 cup of vinegar in each load of laundry as a fabric softener and de-stinker! The best decision ever.
Janelle says
I use the oxy-clean spray and it’s great on stains!
Megan says
I love your response to people who ask if you’re going to try for a girl. We have three boys and get this question a lot. It often annoys me because it seems to imply that we’re not satisfied with our boys.
And I’ll definitely give the white revive a try! Thanks for the review!
Nikki says
Looks great! on a side note, who won your baby poll?
Tanja says
Oxicleaners are great for old stains in fabric. It’s my go-to remedy, especially for those dirty thrift-store finds. If it’s a cotton fabric I mix the powder with almost boiling water, put in the stained fabric and let it soak for hours.
It’s also a great and easy way to clean thermos flasks.
As for white fabric – in my opinion there’s nothing better than washing soda. That stuff is amazing.
Katie says
Oh thank you for the reminder. I knew I was missing something! I even have my special prize pack picked out! Duh!

Katie says
I have a few of those that I should test it on….I’ll let you know because those are sometimes “surprise stains” as in they don’t even show up for a little while after the clothes have dried!

Katie says
I will need to test that! I’ll let you know.

I’d love to heat how you incorporate it in your cloth diaper routine. I had such a time keeping the ammonia smell down.

Hey Katie,
Just wondering why you have approved other comments that were placed after mine, but not this comment? I was truly trying to give constructive criticism, and would love to know what you think.
– Paula
Katie says
Sorry Paula…some comments come in and then are followed by others (on this post and past posts) so I just approve as many as I can in the way that they are in my pending box….so that means newer ones get approved before older ones and sometimes stuff gets stuck in moderation because I only have so much screen time with four little ones! I promise it’s nothing personal!

Hi Paula,
I have a really heavy sponsor schedule right now but I do limit it to one a week unless or 52 a year. Also…I am very strict about labeling my sponsored posts…if they aren’t labeled as sponsored, I didn’t receive compensation for that post…so those Rust-Oleum posts were really just for information and if the post is labeled as a “giveaway sponsored by” it means that I didn’t purchase or provide that item, it is given or sponsored by that company. Does that make sense? So really I have stuck to my one a week schedule. I hope this clears things up. When in doubt I do label it as sponsored and hope that avoids confusion.

I rarely have cloth diapers because we do regular diapers for the boys unless they are potty training or doing pool/sprinkler time, so I can’t answer that really. But if I do have a poo item then I would soak it in the bowl prior to washing for an hour and then add it to the drum with the detergent since that would be a sanitize cycle.

Hi Katie, did you finished your laundry room makeover? I remember the last post about it was before any counter were installed. Or did I miss a post about it? 🙂 Would really love to see how your laundry room has turned out! 😀

I’m wondering this too Katie!
Thank you

Thanks, Katie! You rock!! 🙂

Cynthia- I found this group via FB and they helped me. I am cloth diapering my 3rd child and I finally have a routine that I don’t have to bleach, soak, do extra rinses/washes, you name it. I use detergent (regular Tide) and that’s it. I know on their FB page they have a list of washers and best washing routines for each. I just pm’d a group leader for wash help because the board moves fast. Hope this website helps! http://www.fluffloveuniversity.com

What about the stiffness? Whenever I put stain remover with the detergent the clothes come out pretty stiff, no matter the softener… Is it the same with Oxi Clean?
Katie says
Well, we don’t use fabric softener on the boys clothing and their clothes feel the same as if I didn’t use the Oxi-Clean…does that make sense?
xo – kb
Katie says
It’s great for that!
xo – kb
Katie says
I am not cloth diapering full time. We only use them now for potty training or for outdoor water activities.
xo – kb
Katie says
That’s good to know! I’m glad you spoke up. I do know that the White Revive has more of a scent than the regular and sometimes those do irritate skin!

I tried to look to see if there was an ingredient list…but none. Sorry. It just says that the White Revive has Wow White Technology 🙂

Grease stains are a little different…I actually will wash them regularly (no soaking but still washed with Oxi-Clean) and let them air dry…then if the stain is still there, I rub talcum powder on the stain and let it sit. Then I rewash. Usually it works like a charm!
xo – kb
Katie says
I wish it was done!
xo – kb
Katie says
I would soak according to color…if it’s white cotton with nothing on it, I would just use bleach and use the small scoop of OxiClean in the wash. If it was white with something on it (like a blue pocket), I would soak in White Revive and wash with a small scoop. If it was dark, I would soak in regular and then wash with a small scoop. Make sense?

It’s not done. We haven’t done anything more except pop a counter top in…it doesn’t even have a sink or or a backsplash yet 🙁

I must say, I an a champ of off brand purchasing but after reading your review I decided to splurge and get some white revive. I almost bought the store brand (can’t help it, thriftiness is in my blood.) I just battled a stubborn stain on a brand new shirt and won( take that grape juice! ) Now I am kinda excited for the next stain. Ha

Hooray! It works great right?! I love that stuff!
