Table setting week continues! And today is one of my favorites….a sea-inspired table setting fit for a mermaid…or a merman…or any other crabby person out there 🙂
Okay…enough with all those pun jokes…let’s dive right in! It all started with my metal fish. It came from the Pier 1 clearance pond. And it was originally brown and black and a bunch of goldish oranges. So I just used basic craft paint to make her white. Personally I think it brings out her natural beauty…aka her scales.
The place settings were an easy combo too. Since color scheme was determined by the white fish, the woven balls and the blue tablecloth, I decided to implement those same hues in the individual place settings. The napkin rings were from Hobby Lobby (I ended up getting them for about ten cents a piece after using my coupons)…but they would be an easy DIY project. Just collect your own shells and hotglue them to a metal ring or with a piece of twine to tie around the napkin. The plates and the Ikea chargers were both in my dining stash and I love layering the pattern on pattern.
My absolute favorite part of the centerpiece is the fact that so many things came from our travels or friends. Some of the coral was from Eleuthera…the sea fans from Grand Cayman….the coconut from Dominican Republic…and shells from Mexico. Some of it is fake too…like the white fingery-type coral…that’s from the foreign land called Kohls.
This would make a great tablescape but also a cute vignette on a random shelf or console table…especially in a beach house, right?!
Oh and those two perfectly white shells at the bottom…those are salt & pepper shakers. I got them for cheap at the Pottery Barn outlet years ago.
The easiest thing about this centerpiece is my ‘height’ item…a tall glass vase with shells and coral. It reminds me of the one in my mothers basement…albeit smaller.
Gotta love a table with texture. It’s one of the biggest make-it-or-break-it things to me for a table. I like the fact that this one has tons of different types of texture…rough, smooth, fabric, shiny…there is tons to ‘feel’ here. Not that I recommend you feeling up my table during dinner. That would be awkward.
So there you have it folks…one more for your viewing (virtual eating) pleasure. Are you ready for tomorrow? I have two more tablesettings for tomorrow and a linky party to throw! Plus a bonus post that I’m pretty stoked about. I can’t wait to see your tables (or single placesettings!) so I hope you all are eating nice tonight. Sea you later!

So this has nothing to do with this post, but where did you get your beach bag that Weston is in? I love it! As well as his smiley face!

Hello! I’ve been reading your blog for about two years now and I’ve never commented, but I just wanted to say thank you for the inspiration in this table setting! One of my goals for the year was to be more social, and I wanted to throw a little get together, and this is just the inspiration that I needed! Thank you again!

Yay for a little inspiration for fun! I always feel that way when I get invited to get-togethers!

I got it years ago at the Banana Republic outlet. They come out with new ones each year I think!

I wasn’t into the table setting week, cause I’m excited for the laundry and Weston! But I had to comment on this one…I love it! And it could easily be scaled down to be more casual too.
I love that I’m first to comment too! All the way from little ol’ Down Under 🙂 Xx

Damn! That always happens to me…I start bragging about being first then all of a sudden comments pop up! Haha!

Super cute Katie! I wish I had even an ounce of your craftiness to pull off a setting like this! But then again, maybe craftiness is like a muscle…just need to flex mine a little more 😉 Thanks for the inspiration!

Holy mackeral (haha), lady! You have a TON of dishes. ‘Fess up: how many sets do you have?
Lauren @ The Highlands Life says
This one is my favorite so far. Definitely gives me reason to use shells and sand that I insist on bringing home from the beach each time.
Katie says
Dinner plate sets? green, white, glass, blue, and three ‘pairings’. And my china 🙂 In my defense though, I received all but the glass ones as gifts 🙂

Fun! With the warm weather we’re having here in Pittsburgh, I’m in the mood for everything summery/beachy and this table setting definitely fits the bill! Love your use of texture–you have lots of different elements but they all work together so well. Thanks so much for sharing, Katie! Have a wonderful evening!

way too cluttered. id rather not have my guests have to hunt for their silverware. even if you serve a meal buffet style, you still have to have room on the table for some things.
Katie says
Oh you could definitely pare this down to a more simple/less cluttered centerpiece…some folks might like the hunt (err…fish)…some might not 🙂

I am sorry, but this makes 3 in a row that I would never use in any way as a table setting. Dirt on a table and now this cluster? Nope, I will happily take updates on your cute kiddos or photo tips followed by a more substantial post on something like the laundry room or exterior painting. This is a total snoozefest, and IMO, validates opinions that you are coasting. I’ll check in next week and hope for the best!
Katie says
Not your thing, huh? Well hopefully you are posting about your own tablesetting to share later today during the kinky party!
