Some folks kept asking what we got for Christmas. So I thought I would bring you a special Monday morning three part series on all the goodies that we received (from our very loving family and each other). Yeah. I know. Christmas is over. This is totally bragging on how generous our family is…and totally annoying. But maybe you are like me and save those giftcards from holidays and need a shopping break…for your little man…well, here’s some stuff he loved:
- Little Tikes Cozy Coupe
– Will’s cozy coupe hailed second hand from Goodwill…but now that we own it, we would have paid full-price. It’s totally worth it. Will pushes it around the house…especially on rainy days….and gives his little Baby Donald rides. Such a generous little taxi driver my Will.
- Mega Bloks Fill’n Dump Truck
– My dad got a couple of these…and now we have monster derby at my parents house every Thursday night. I’m thinking we might start charging admission.
- Mega Bloks Bag
– Let’s be honest, Will doesn’t like stacking…hates the stacking…but he LOVES the kicking. LOVES the smashing. LOVES the destroying. Major points for Mega Blocks.
- Talking Lightning Mcqueen and Francesco Bernoulli Car
– You saw him with his new Lightening McQueen and his Francesco. Very fun toys for boys…young and old.
- Fleece pants – The kid is growing like a weed and we are huge Children’s Place fans. We love their clothing for little boys. And boys clothes are hard. And we also appreciate the comfort-factor of fleecey pants. Bower Grade : A++
- First 100 Trucks books
– How did we live without a truck book for 20months of life? We didn’t. We didn’t know what living was. But now with 100 more trucks in our life, it’s real. it’s real and it’s all about excavators, big rigs and mini loaders. Will is obsessed.
- Thomas Toddler Training Toothpaste with Toothbrush
– Neglect your teeth and you’ll lose them! Sorry for the cheese – but it’s true. The Thomas the Train just makes it fun.
- Radio Flyer Classic Tricycle
– My mom scored the Radio Flyer tricycle on sale at Goodwill…and everything you heard about this brand is true: they are classic, quality and the kids are naturally drawn to them like a celebrity to teeth whitening.
- Reindeer Puppet slippers – My darling sister in law picked out these for Will and I can not believe I didn’t invent this myself. It’s genius. A slipper that is also a puppet. Amazingly comfy and entertainment in one 🙂
- Matchbox Smokey The Fire Truck
– You’ve heard all about this toy. It dances. It launches balls. It talks. It has a siren. It can put out imaginary fire. Enough said.
- Fleece jacket – It’s like England in Georgia right now. At least what I imagine England is like – cold and wet and foggy and dimly lit. Perfect fleece weather. And for $5 the price is right. Especially since I’ll have to save my money for when the Queen Mother arrives 🙂
- Black And Decker Junior Power Tool Workshop
– C’mon. We are obviously fans of the DIY revolution. So it comes as no surprise that we fully endorse training up your youngsters in home improvement. Start with this and you won’t be visiting the emergency room. Not yet at least.
- Hot Wheels
– Will loves these and they are the perfect present for little fingers. I love them too…you know for the mommy massage that comes when they drive the cars all over your aching back 🙂
- Hot Wheels 100 Car Case
– I know two things. You can’t make kids eat something they absolutely don’t want. And kids love kid-sized things…like chairs and suitcases made specifically for them. This one is well loved. And it fits right into my new STAY ORGANIZED mantra.
- Bounceback RC Racer
– It only has two buttons…forward and backward and it bounces and flips and zooms all over. It is the starter for the bigger kid – more advanced remote control cars….also known as auto-pilot Hondas.
- A Potty for Me! Book
– Will is not ready for potty training…we know that…but we figure it’s never too soon to talk about doing the deed without the necessity of a diaper. Will likes it for the flapped pages…I love it because the kid looks completely adrogenous.
So needless to say – the kid is kindof obsessed with things with wheels. I think you already know that. And you probably also know that the kid is fully spoiled rotten by his family…especially considering that we bought him very little. I guess if presents were disgruntled employees, Will would be a Walmart. What did you guys get your kids? Anything so awesome that you wish you were a kid again? Anything retro? Any Cabbage Patch Kids or My Little Ponies?
p.s. for more Christmas swag, check out what Jer got and what I got. I don’t care if it is the end of January – MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I’ve recently discovered your blog and I love it.
By the way, you are spot on with the weather in England – that is exactly what it’s like : – (

Looking out the window I’d say yes, you’re right, cold and wet and foggy and dimly lit!

LOVE the truck book! It’s one of a series and I’ve been giving them as gifts for a while.
All the kids love the photos/illustrations and they learn so much! It’s my favorite Will gift of all!!!

My kids also got a cozy coup. I had been looking for a used one for a couple years but could never find one so we bit the bullet and bought a new one. It even has a little trailer for it. I always wanted one growing up. They kids age 7yrs-14months all love it. One of the best toys we ever bought.

Looks like Will made out like a bandit!

There’s a lot of red in there! My favorite is the Radio Flyer. Makes me wish I would’ve had one growing up {i was a tomboy} instead of My Little Pony. Oh well. I can always live vicariously through my nieces and nephews.

My son got the very same Thomas toothbrush set. It was his favorite gift from his stocking!! Guess 18 month old boys are easy to please. 🙂

We got our 3 kiddos light sabers (or as my kids call them: light savers) and they have been the hit of the season. They glow, which is fun, and it’s fun to have something that’s meant to be hit. Also, we got our kids flashlights because they’re always wanting ours- best gift – they loved them! We’ve had many puppet shows, reading in the dark and playing flashlight tag. For my 4 year old sweet girl we got her the barbie house (wood target brand) that I wanted when I was a kid 🙂 For my 6 yr. old boy- legos! and for my 1 year old boy- Tonka TRUCKS! We love anything with wheels here too!

AWww man! I did not know about the 100 First Trucks book! Must.buy.now!!! We have the First 100 Words one just like it and my 18 month old son loves it! Thanks for sharing!

Don’t be so sure Will isn’t ready for potty training. We just finished potty training our 19 mon old. It takes a little longer but there are definite advantages to doing it before the excessive willfullnesss of the terrible twos hit and we kept it fun so it wasn’t stressful for any of us. Just a thought!

We have the ‘first 100 trucks’ book and many more from that same line, our kids have loved them all and they hold up REALLY well! Sometimes you can find them at TJMaxx super cheap. I always pick up multiples – they’re perfect for little kid bday parties. ‘First Words’ is another excellent one that at 4, 6 and 8 they still love to look through. Gorgeous pics!
Merry Christmas 🙂

My 3 year old got toothpaste too! He thought it was great…Santa cares about teeth too!

Looks a lot like our house….wheels, wheels and more wheels with some dinosaurs thrown in there! Did you know that the Cozy Coupe is Americas best selling car?! A little fun FYI for ya! Someone told me that when we got ours and for whatever reason I can remember that but call my children by eachothers names?!!
Kelly says
How is the Hot Wheels 100 car case working out for you?
I am so frustrated with it.
The hinges fail, the two sides seperate and the cars fall before you can snap it shut.
The HW car case was gift along with some HW cars from an out-of-state relative. I want to return it. Not sure what store it was purchased at and don’t want to insult gift giver. It disappoints me that people spend there hard-earned money on what turns out to be junk.
Don’t get me started on the flimsy plastic Barbie stuff… that is a whole other tanget.
Katie says
Yeah – I don’t get that either. I might be returning ours to Walmart if it breaks again.

Katie says
haha…yeah. Your 19month old must be pretty smart…Will is definitely not ready. He understands the concept of the potty but is scared to death of it and doesn’t ever correctly identify if his diaper is dirty 🙂

Is it weird that I wish those reindeer slippers were in my size?

Whenever Will is ready for potty training, you’ll have to get “Even Firefighters Go to the Potty”. http://www.amazon.com/dp/1416927204/?tag=googhydr-20&hvadid=4048704025&ref=pd_sl_84c36q5cpc_e Perfect for little boys! Of course the Baby Bjorn potty seat/chair are wonderful too!

Whenever Will is ready for the potty you might want to try the book, “Even Firefighters Go to the Potty.” It’s perfect for little boys! The Baby Bjorn potty chair/seat are great too. They’ve got a high front lip to prevent spraying momma, plus because their feet are firmly planted on the ground–which I’ve read makes it easier for them to relax their muscles and go #2.
Might need to get a Cozy Coupe and the 100 trucks book for our house!

Hot Wheels are a HUGE hit in our house – my youngest daughter takes after her daddy and his love of cars 🙂 Luckily they’re cheap. And plentiful 😉

Love your blog Katie – you are one funny lady!
And yes, today in England it is grey and drizzly, at least in the North. But, last night Northern England got to see the Northern Lights..
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2090611/Northern-Lights-Extraordinary-display-skies-YORKSHIRE.html
..so not all bad!
Your comment about the North Face fleece made me chuckle. My father-in-law (a true gent) has a NF jacket but chose to colour in the logo with a permanent marker!

Whoa – the Northern Lights are definitely on my bucket list 🙂 Awesome!

truck.book.is.amazing!…we borrowed it from our local library so many times it started falling apart…and then when they went to throw it out because it was beyond repair our dear sweet librarian saved it from the garbage and gave it to us the next time we came in…LOVE those librarians!!…i had bought my boys another book that was more of a flip book that i thought might be just as good..definately not…this truck book is waaaay better and will hold their attention for a whole 10 minutes longer…(which is golden…when you’re trying to get stuff done around the house)…toodles!…love your blog…and great post…will keep it in my backpocket for birthday and christmas ideas 🙂 thanks!

I’m happy that Santa could be so generous, but I’m saddened by the materialism.

Looks alot like what our little man got 🙂 I love the megablocks brand but recently discovered they have Megablocks Thomas Trains (you can build the trains and they fit with “duplos” too)… my son is OBSESSED! If Will is a Thomas fan you may have to check them out. (2nd Birthday Gift idea!??) I was sure we wouldn’t potty train until close to three but my son surprised me the week of his second birthday so we threw away the diapers and did Lora Jenson’s 3 day method. Highly recommend it for whenever the time for Will is right (whether it be in 6 months or two years! Each kid is different!)
Kat says
Why are you saddened that she’s excited that her son got some fun new stuff for Christmas?? That’s not materialistic, it’s CHRISTMAS. Christmas + kids = gifts.
