Some folks kept asking what we got for Christmas. So I thought I would bring you a special Monday morning three part series on all the goodies that we received (from our very loving family and each other). Yeah. I know. Christmas is over. This is totally bragging on how generous our family is…and totally annoying. But maybe you are like me and save those giftcards from holidays and need a shopping break…for your boyfriend…well, here’s some stuff he loved:
- PowerBlock Classic Adjustable Dumbbell Set
Did you know that weights are usually about one dollar per poud? So if you buy a pair of twenty pound dumbbells and a pair of ten pound and a pair of five…that’s $70. SEVENTY DOLLARS. And that’s only three sets. And then let’s say you wanna work out those pretty pecs of yours and need a fifty pound set. Boom. $100. And then you might need a weight set inbetween…because you are trying to build muscle and need to max out. And all of sudden, you have spent well over $200 and then have to store five sets of weights. Enter the PowerBlock Adjustable Dumbbell set. We got ours at Dicks. And Jeremy is thrilled. And ready to get ripped.
- Leather Hippo – It’s this joke that we have. I ask Jer what he wants for Christmas. He says…nothing. I say c’mon. And then he sings I wanna Hippopatomus for Christmaaaas. And then I laugh. So this christmas I got him exactly what he asked for 🙂 I love the price tag too – under eight bucks with a sale or coupon!
- Old Navy Pajama Pants – these are exactly the pants I got him. And they got used too. In our redneck family photos 🙂 I actually got him two pairs (different styles – this one and another gray & white plaid) because the ones that he wears are so old that the fabric is wearing a little too thin for decency, if you know what I mean.
- Men’s Resistor Lo Cut 6-Pack Socks by Under Armour
– my main squeeze loves to mountain bike. You should know that by now. And the only socks that he likes when he’s clipped in are low cut and black (they hide the mud stains a little better) and he swears that these are one of the few kind that don’t stretch out like an Ethopian’s earlobes. (he never said that. that completely inappropriate un-pc joke is mine.)
- P90X: Tony Horton’s 90-Day Extreme Home Fitness Workout DVD Program
– Yes, Tony Horton is more annoying than a porcupine in your underpants, but his results are amazing. This is a man’s workout. Muscle building. And you will throw up. And then you will get ripped. All in the comfort of your living room.
- AXE Shower Gel
– Boys like to smell good too. Nuff said.
- Axe Shower Detailer
– We laughed at these product commercials. I literally snort everytime I hear fuzzy balls. Sorry mom.. And so I knew that I would have to stuff this man-loofah in Jer’s stocking.
- Titleist Pro V1 Golf Balls
– Jer didn’t get this many – but he did get a few with his initials on em. Shmancy.
- Power Block Weight stand – Ya know…cause nobody wants a lower back injury from picking up weights off the floor. And because it was free at Dicks when you bought the weights 🙂
- Fossil Casual Belt
– Jeremy complained that his shoes never match his belt. Not like in a weird way. Just casually about how his casual belt was way too dressy and shiny for his converse kicks and he felt like a fugly 35 year old. I never knew the wrong belt could make a man fugly. I guess that’s how girls feel about butterfly hair clips. So I picked one of these lighter Fossil belts up. I got his at TJMaxx but the one above is a pretty darn close match.
- Old Navy Graphic tshirts – I think I got him six t-shirts this Christmas. They were having one heck of a sale and each one was $5…and good thing too…because with all that working out, he needs some options when it comes to t-shirts.
- Bananagrams
– When Jer pulled out the giant banana bag from his stocking, his face was more than a little confused. We had never played and more than once, I’ve heard him say that he hates board games. But for some odd reason, he is obsessed with this one. Maybe because he can beat me 🙂
So what did your boyfriends get? I always need ideas for birthdays, valentines day, next christmas 🙂
Katie Jo says
Good Morning, Katie! We got eachother a Keurig for Christmas, although I don’t drink coffee I told him that I would love to have it and I would use it everyday! That was a lie because I knew how much he wanted it and I knew he wouldn’t get it just for himself! It makes him so happy and boy how I love to see that smile on his face! Love the Christmas posts! Keep Christmas with you all through the year…
Kristen @ Popcorn on the Stove says
My brother in law tried P90X and he got crazy ripped but he definitely threw up from it. So crazy.
(Also, I posted about our Christmas gifts here!)

My “boyfriend” would totally agree with Jeremy on the UnderArmor socks. They’re the only ones he likes for working out and he said they’re the most comfortable because they stretch to fit his foot (he’s a size 14) but they don’t stay stretched out. AND, they’re very breathable so no schweaty feet to match the rest of him when he’s done a run.
I didn’t believe him until he got me some as a stocking stuffer last year and I’ve gotta say, I’m hooked now too. In my stocking this year were six pairs with a different colored neon logo on each pair for easy matching.
Urban Wife says
Thanks to Ramsey, we didn’t get each other anything this Christmas. Boring, I know! Especially when giving gifts is my main love language. But thanks for your list! Now I have some ideas for this year. 🙂
Katie says
Oh, now I have that hippopotamus song in my head!!
My BF got PJ pants from Old Navy, a puzzle of Las Vegas, a sushi making kit, and a new football for Christmas. The football sits, unused, on my bookshelf for all to see.
Sarah says
Sounds like it was a good year for Jeremy! My big gift to my husband (and the biggest he’s getting for a long time) was a new handgun. I also got him Monopoly Deal (a much faster, card game version of Monopoly) that is cheap, ridiculously fun, and addictive. Like Jeremy, he loves it because he beats me into the ground on every round.
my honest answer says
I LOVE socks with different colored parts for easy matching! It is one of those silly things that makes my life sooooo much easier. I only buy black socks with colored heels and toes now. No-one can see anything but black socks in my shoes, and they are so easy to pair up.
Ashley@AttemptsAtDomestication says
I wish my man let me buy him clothes for Christmas. I did one year because he had no jeans without holes in the butt left and he pouted about how that could have been toys. Go figure!
Jackie Kelly says
Since we now line in Scotland (Edinburgh) I thought it would be fitting to get my better half a really nice bottle of scotch (a 21yr that is). Needless to say he was very surprised.
Amy @ this DIY life says
Have you tried the hot chocolate K cups? Or the tea? Delish 🙂

I’m not normally a good gift giver, but this year I magically did pretty well. I purchased a domain name for the business my hubs has always wanted to start. He has the registration certificate taped to the wall for a little motivation everyday. We’re big mountain bikers as well, but we don’t really get to ride together since we have a three year old and live in a town with no family close by. So, I got him (us) a weekend trip in a yurt on a lake at a Georgia state park. Yurts are freakin expensive to stay in at private inns and resorts, but I’ve recently discovered a little jewel—stay at state and federal park cabins and it’s CHEAP.
We booked a rustic cabin on a private lake paradise in NC last year and we’ve already booked our follow-up trip for my birthday this year. Oh and it was $35 per night directly on the lake!
Kristen says
Jeremy scored some nice stuff! This Christmas I bought my hubby a Kinect for his Xbox 360. Then for a few smaller things I got him a shirt, a board game expansion pack, and something else that I can’t remember for some reason.
Diana @ Boy + Girl says
I did P90X – all 90 days of it and I never threw up! Then I did Insanity and came much closer. When he’s done wihth P90X I recommend it. Looks like he did alright this year!! Can’t wait to see what you got!

i bought myself bananagrams for christmas this year – love that game!

My husband really desperately wanted a panini maker. And I kept saying no no, it’ll just be one more appliance we don’t use, so we got him that for Christmas, and he loves it and we make grilled cheeses all the time. I’m sure we’ll try different recipes but the grilled cheese is just fast and easy. And then for his birthday which is the 28th of dec we went into NYC and went to bar americain which is bobby flays restaurant bc he loves bobby.

I got my boytoy these amazing TV headphones for in our bedroom–when I’m trying to sleep he can listen to the sound of the TV via the headphones and then I get some peace and quiet 🙂

Hi Katie!! Love the blog. Read you everyday. I don’t typically comment but just wanted to give you a heads up that some of your personal pics have made their way to your photography website. In one of your photo shoots there are 3-4 pics of your hubby hanging a mirror. Haha!! Have a good day. The new photo site is adorable!

Good gifts! My husband is an avid home brewer and beer snob, so I got him a renewal membership to the American Homebrewer’s Association, some fancy tulip beer glasses from Crate and Barrel, and a really nice beer print from one of his favorite local artists. Oh! Also, some English Toffee. He is a total toffee snob. His birthday is in a few weeks, and I was totally out of ideas…until I read this post 🙂
Kate says
Totally unrelated, but just saw this and thought of your blog…

We are essentially on the “Ramsey” plan too as I am the only working person in our household! So we bought “necessities” for each other and wrapped them up, haha. Someday he will finish his graduate program and get a job.. and we will have a Christmas! SOMEDAY lol.
Jason says
Anyone else getting a lot of 404 errors on the links?

We did the Christmas of nothing! My husband and I live in separate states, so flying him home was a gift to the both of us. However,on Christmas day my brother in law asks what perfume my husband got me. Talk about confused, apparently my husband asked his dad for money since I keep our checking account tighter than an impending bum waiting for it’s colonoscopy. So in the end he tried to surprise me, but it was an epic fail since he never had a chance to get it, but the thought of having nothing under the tree was just too much for him.We are planning on doing Christmas in July, can’t wait to see your X-mas posts then!
Melanie says
P90X can be phenomenal for women as well !!!! The results are quick and lasting (short of sending you my before and afters, take my word on it), and all you have to do is slightly modify the workout to make it all about lean and toned vs. big muscle man. But you do have to be ready to get your behind kicked 😉
ps. Once he’s done with P90X, there’s “Insanity” that’ll take care of maintenance and cardio.

my husband’s really into running (http://www.thekriegers.org/post/12793513243/a-marathon-weekend) so i got him a running jacket and some running tights.
he’s also REALLY skinny, and the tights show off his slender man-thighs 🙂
after he unwrapped them, he put the tights on for the rest of Christmas morning, mostly to terrorize his brother.
his grandmother loved it, though. she kept saying: TOM! I love your tight pants!
haha

I did a joint gift with my parents for my boyfriend that you would appreciate. We got him a Canon 1.4 teleconverter. Not a surprise, but he loved it.
T says
Looks like you had a great Christmas. I went with the couch potato theme this year. I bought the hubs, sports apparel, a recliner, beer and pilsner glasses. I guess you could call it a winter hybernation kit, that probably sounds better, but whatever. I am going to try that banana game with my family. Thanks for the ideas.
kayakgirl73 says
We got Bananagrams as well from my sister and we love it.
Courtney says
Great ideas…I want Christmas to linger too…so I still like to bring it up on occation myself!

I love that hippo! It makes me laugh and yet I think it would fit in great in my house!

What a great Christmas! My “boyfriend” LOVES to run so I got him a pair of Vibram FiveFingers Bikila LS Running Shoes (http://www.rei.com/product/811206/vibram-fivefingers-bikila-ls-running-shoes-mens) and a few pairs of toe socks to go along with them. He really got into Astronomy the past year and is very facinated with Brian Greene’s books so for fun, my mother got him a telescope so he/we can star gaze sometime on a clear night….a great date night idea! I think she got it from WalMart so it wasn’t an uber expensive one but he was like a kid in a candy shop! – oh, and PS – I gave an “us” gift of BananaGrams + Scrabble Dictionary (for those hard to play letters – a friend of mine introduced it to me this past Fall) and I knew he’d really like it. Tons of fun…great game and gift idea!
Emily says
My boyfriend is a mountain biker and he loves Sock Guy and Descantes (Not sure about spelling) brands for socks. I thought he was crazy until I tried a pair myself. Amazing. So snug and cozy, but also breathe-able. Um, I got him similar jammies from Old Navy along with PJ 20 and three vinyl albums that he has been wanting to add to his collection.
P.S. Bananagrams = LOVE.

ProV1’s with initials on em……..schmancy in deed!!! Did you order them online?? Must remember this for my husbands birthday. You see we live on a golf course and after hours my husband goes looking for golf balls (I know totally redneck..and those things are pricey…lol.) he gets pretty excited when he finds a prov1! Haha. I would totally get some brownie points if I got some with his initials put on em.
Katie says
My dad got them for him…my dad is such a fancy golf guy and he gets loads of prizes at tournaments so I think that he used some of the prize balls as christmas gifts – of course with a little schmancification. I think you can do it online 🙂

My fiance wanted one of those old school double edged razors. Apparently it’s better for their skin and gives a closer shave. Well, I wasn’t too convinced but I bought him one from amazon along with some of the accessories like shave soap and one of those bristle brushes. He LOVES it…he used to only shave on work days and now he shaves every day because he likes to! I also made him a blanket and bought him some jeans from Costco (Calvin Klein for only $25!). He was a happy camper for sure!
Katie says
aww – I love that idea. I actually didn’t think Jer bought me anything so I wrapped up a few gifts too…for myself…and yes, they were a parmasean cheese shaker and a spatula from the dollar store 🙂

Katie says
whoa – your main squeeze sounds so refined!
You must be one classy chick!

This is totally random, but I just posted about AXE products too (managed to somehow spray the deodorant in my mouth – worst thing that has ever happened to me.)

My husband is a runner and he is super picky about his socks too. He won’t wear socks that do not have little ‘L’s and ‘R’s on them to differentiate what foot they go on.

Ok, you just totally inspired me to go back and actually add some pictures to my Christmas post. (http://amelia77.wordpress.com/2011/12/28/digesting/) I was so late getting it up that I couldn’t really muster the photos, I’m glad that you’re giving us all the green light to let the glory live 🙂

Great presents!! My boyfriend Jer, got Sirius satellite radio…he LOVES it…sports talk radio with no commercials…he’s in HEAVEN! lol….I got lucky with that purchase….as I did with a couple PS3 videos games…..I regret those purchases…he loves them (that’s what counts) but he plays them ALOT! lol.
Tiffany E. says
I also got a hippopotamus for Christmas! Except mine was a Chia Pet. I always joke about wanting one, so I put it on my list this year, with the footnote that my husband was 100% against this idea, and his sister gave me the cutest hippo chia pet. Granted it looks like a hairy, moldly science experiment now, but I still love it!
Courtney says
I got my husband an awesome 3D puzzle called Perplexus which perplexed us (HA!) for the entire Christmas holiday. Nearly got tossed across the room a couple of times. I also got him hockey tickets to see his favourite team. That gift served as his birthday gift as well and the game is on Valentine’s day so with one gift I am set for 3 holidays!
Looks like Jeremy got some awesome stuff!
Katie says
haha…Jer got Modern Warfare 3 for his birthday and our down time is filled with gunfire. Yeah.

Lauren says
Love my Kinect! The hubs bought it for me for Christmas last year, and he totally uses it more than I do! He’s a master bowler
Lauren says
My hubs got MW3 as an “I love you” present the night it came out…I’ve learned to live with it but why do they like it so loud??
Katie says
Seriously.
I told Jer that if I wanted to live with constant gunfire I would move to the ghetto. The housing is cheaper.

Jenni says
Oh, haha, we’re not too classy, but I try to be sometimes! 😉 (Sorry, I realize I probably came across awful up on my comment–I always try to explain beer stuff in a ‘nice’ way, as both my husband and I still worry that when people (& friends/family) hear ‘beer’ and ‘homebrewing’ they think ‘drunkies’ and ‘moonshine’, so I tend to make it more awkward, whoops!)
Melissa Evans says
LOL!!…I’m living with zombies…..and some of them sound like gorillas…lol….makes for a nice quiet evening…and lovely ambiance….boys….sigh lol…..crafting with zombies lol. 🙂 🙂 🙂
Katie says
Yeah…I am actually really into the zombies. I held my own when Jer first started playing but then he had to go and get good 🙂 But yeah, I definitely know how to work the instanta-death 🙂

Yep, P90X is for women too! I did TurboFire but upped it with P90X that I got for Christmas 2 years ago. There’s a lean routine that’s mostly cardio, and I got SO much better results from that than I did with TurboFire. Plus the TurboFire music was annoying. 😉 Steal it from Jeremy – you won’t be disappointed!

We have those weights -they are great so much more space efficient. We rec’d bananagrams last year, but…returned them & bought wrapping paper!
