OK, please don’t take offense at this… It’s just my opinion and you are welcome to ignore it. But it seems like half your posts lately are links to your photography blog. And I do think your photos are great, but your photo business is not why I read this blog. I read it for the home decor inspiration and because it’s fun. I get excited when I see you have a new post, then I see it’s just another photo link and it’s disappointing. Maybe you could do these as a summary every couple of weeks or something? I’m pretty sure that most people with a strong interest in your photo blog already subscribe to it in their reader or whatever, so those people are getting double notifications of every post. Again, just my opinion and maybe others disagree, but I wanted to throw it out there.
Well…honestly speaking I don’t take offense to you having an opinion BUT this is my blog and I get to choose what I post…and photography is a big part of my life…it’s part of the power behind us Bowers…and frankly helps make all our projects possible. In short…no photography…lame blog. So you are welcome to your opinion but it’s here to stay…and I promise to keep them as weekend posts…which you can skip whenever you want 🙂
Thanks for understanding!

Love your blog, but I agree with Jennifer regarding the abundance of photo blog promotion posts lately. And I understand why you do it, and it doesn’t deter me from reading at all…just kind of a letdown when I’m looking forward to “hearing” from you!

You can’t please everyone Katie!
I don’t mind the posted links to your photography blog… it’s not as if you posted every single photo on this page. It’s just a little blurb and a link, if people don’t like it they can just keep scrolling down.
Thanks for having an active blog and keeping us entertained. 🙂

I’ll have to agree. I check your photography blog on its own so dont really need to do posts on this blog… 2 seperate blogs for a reason, right? That said, post whatever the hell ya want on your blog for it is that-Yours!
Yours is still the only blog I read- for its freshness and unpredicatbility! I dont even read YHL.. I find it repetitive and ovely predictable. So kudos to you for keeping us on our toes!
I totally understand – but I want to be sure that any new readers get to know my photography work as well…you know, gotta cross-promote it if you want to be successful! Just be sure to skip if you aren’t interested! I promise I won’t hold it against you 🙂

Well, first of all Sara – thank you for checking out the photo blog 🙂 Hearing that really does make me smile.
And yeah, I wish I was soo successful that I didn’t need to cross-promote – maybe one day 🙂 But for now, I’ll keep it to the weekends and you feel free skip all that predictability 🙂

I have been reading YHL and this blog for about a year now and have never felt the need to comment…until now. Starting a comment with, “Please don’t take offense to this” is no different than saying, “I’m going to offend you now.” We are not paying people to read their blogs. We have the option to scroll to another post, or move on to another one altogether. Katie doesn’t “owe” us anything! This blog is about her life, her thoughts, her talents, her business, her choices…in a medium that she can arrange in any order that she likes.
Not to mention…have you thought about all the various reasons she is posting the photography links? Like cross-promoting as mentioned…or catching up with her photo shoots…or needing posts with less words so she can be with her family?
Urghh. Kudos to you, Katie. I could never deal with the various opinions/comments of people like you so graciously do. It’s a gift. Truly.

I dont think you give yourself enough credit girl, you are very successful and your success will only continue to grow! Even when I dont “love” your posts, or have something some people think is negative, I think you are so genuine I want nothing but the bst for you and your blog/business and of course, family!
I still wanna know when your going to take this photog thing on the road, so we can all get our chance to be a new post on katie bower photography” (I bet then we wont mind the extra post on here!) 🙂
Thanks for taking the good with the bad with such grace!
I don’t comment too often either, but just wanted to say that I love checking out the photo posts on your other blog. My husband is quite a good self taught photographer and I’m about to start learning on our new DSLR camera a Canon 60D. I often show my husband something you’ve done and ask how you might have achieved it! Good on you for keeping your blog about what you want, that’s the point after all! Coincidentally I gave your photo blog a shout out on my own blog earlier today, you keep doing your thing KB! 🙂 xo Kirsty

I usually like your photography posts a lot. But this one… I LOVE!!! Oh my, the adorable baby! The dog! Those beautiful parents. The dog!!!!
I wish you lived in Germany so you can take our newborn pictures whenever the time might come.
PS: Oh, the dog…..

I don’t regularly check your photography blog, so I enjoy getting these posts. You do beautiful work Katie – show it off!

You are absolutely right, it is your prerogative to post whatever you want on your blog! I truly hope you didn’t take offense. I do think you do some great photography – I’ve been reading since before you started the business and I think it’s phenomenal what you’ve accomplished in such a short time, so kudos to you! Thanks for graciously accepting my opinion even though it was unsolicited.
Oh no problem! I like to encourage everyone to express themselves considerately…and you did! I always try to remind folks that I am still just starting out and hope that everyone can help support my dream of being a professional photographer (as silly as that may seem!) even if it just means putting up with a little cross promotion on the weekends.

Thanks for your opinion on my opinion, Nicole. I didn’t state nor imply that Katie “owes” us anything as blog readers. I read her blog because I enjoy it. If I didn’t enjoy it, I’d stop, simple as that. I know she didn’t ask for opinions, so perhaps it was wrong of me to share mine. I truly meant to be constructive, not to offend Katie. Of course I realize that cross-promoting is good for her photography business, and I didn’t suggest that she eliminate it altogether. I am grateful to Katie for her gracious reply.

Great shots! That St. Bernard looks like he’s about to make a meal out of that baby. What? Not allowed to say that? Sorry… 🙂
I LOVE this photo! Having two puppies, I hope they love my babies like this… Thanks for the tear jerker…baby fever, much? Oh dear…I JUST started back to school…no time for that. I was at Bible Study tonight & looked over at the table next to me & thought “Is that Katie?”, which is a problem since I live in Dallas, which is also a problem since I wonder how you’ll be able to capture the birth of my child one day, which is a really weird problem since that might be awkward for you. Follow me? Yeah, me neither.

I enjoy the links to your photo site because I sometimes forget to check it. Please keep posting links to it! I wish that you were closer so you could do some family pictures for us, I don’t think my husband would agree to a vacation in the south just for pictures! hehe
I love your photography work and your blog! Please keep posting! <3

PS. These are especially cute shots! He is perfect. Makes me want to get my baby-makin on!! 🙂

If I put myself in your shoes – I can see where you were coming from. I really can.
When I wasn’t in your shoes – my ears heard criticism that wasn’t deserved and I guess that’s just a button for me. Anyway, just goes to show that we all have different stories/perceptions/buttons….and so a healthy does of empathy and grace goes a long way for all involved in this blog world. Thank you for your kind reply. 🙂

Wow.
[clearing throat]
I’d have flipped the bird at the computer screen immediately. Then I’d have stopped to collect my thoughts, maybe take a couple deep breaths.
And then flip the bird with my other hand.
You’re much nicer than me.
