A little photo sorting lead me to the issue at hand…Christmas.
The Christmas I never told y’all about.
THAT Christmas.
I told you about our Palooza on the Eve…but not the actual day of all days.
The morning of Christ’s birth, we set up Will’s gifts under the tree. When Will cried his “I’m AWAKE! Get me OUT!” cry, both Jer & I were bounding in to get him…and we cuddled in our bed for a bit before heading down to see what Santa left.
I found the cozy coupe at Goodwill for $5 (Jer calls it the Flintstone mobile – which is kinda fitting because we were Fred & Wilma for Halloween in oh-eight – so that would make Will our little Bam-Bam if we had adopted him instead of those crazy Rubbles)…
He was a little timid. I think he didn’t think it belonged to him. Our neighbors have one…so he probably thought mama scalped theirs.
Finally – he started to enjoy it.
That’s when he saw the tricycle. He actually was sitting in the cozy coupe, his eyes got big and round and twinkled as he whispered ‘whoa’ under his breath. It was hilarious.
Ran right over and climbed on. He’s still a little too little…but I don’t think he cared whether his feet hit the pedals or not.
And then it was right back to the cozy coupe.
A little beeping and picking at the old stickers.
And then it was right back to the tricycle…
I was shopping with my mom (yeah, at Goodwill) when we spied the Radio Flyer tricycle…it was under $15…and practically brand new. So she got it for Will.
And then it was right back to the cozy coupe. Notice a pattern? Yeah…that’s my life 🙂
My parents and Tim came over for Jeremy’s famous christmas waffle breakfast. This is what happens when I say ‘okay – don’t look depressed!” I’d hate to see what would happen if I said “act really excited to eat waffles!”
We opened presents. We laughed. We played Bananagrams. We unloaded stockings. We played cars. We pushed Will in the car. We pushed Will on the tricycle. We pushed peanut M&M’s down our throats. We ate lunch. We laughed when I wanted to take a prayer picture.
Then we did it all over again. It was amazing. perfect. just simple and lovely.
Scenes from our Christmas:
It’s weird to think about Christmas and Valentines in the same brainwave. That’s my life right now…a jumbled up mess. How’s yours? Anyone else out there still thinking about how Christmas photos need downloaded? Oh. great. just me then.
Regan R @ RenovatingRothenbergers says
That coupe you got Will was my favorite toy growing up – I called it my beep-beep car! 🙂 Great find! I’m sure Will is going to enjoy that for many years to come. And, his Christmas pj’s are soo adorable!

We were given a cozy coupe from our neighbors years ago and it’s gone thru my 2 daughters and about 6 kids that I’ve babysat – even survives being left out in the rain (oops!). Love that car!
And Katie – I love that you posted about Christmas – I can’t believe it’s over and miss it so much!
Joy says
Thanks for sharing! I’m in the midst of sorting and organizing my 2011 photos and it’s a daunting task, especially because 2011 was my baby’s first year! I hope to get a photo book together documenting his first year and then an annual photo book thereafter. Wish me luck! Oh, and you always seem to find the best stuff at Goodwill!
Allison says
My brother and I had a cozy coupe and we absolutely LOVED it! Fair warning though, if he turns it into a jungle gym like we did ours, keep an eye out when he’s climbing on top of it. My mother as uber-careful/paranoid as she was, was shocked when my little brother slid off the top of it and his head went through the glass aquarium holding our dear Christmas-present guinea pig, Sunny. Everyone was OK, but no doubt a terrifying moment for Mom. And Sunny. I don’t think my brother realized what happened!
I just feel like I’d be being neglectful if I didn’t pass that story along! Also, when we got the guinea pig, our 4- and 2-year-old minds had no idea what it was! My parents have video of us saying …. “It’s, it’s, it’s – it’s a Pet!!”
Hoping that you all continue to make great Christmas memories through the years as we did!!
Claire says
You’re making that house a home Katie 🙂
Carla says
you’re not alone… i just uploaded the 897 photos the other day and haven’t even begun to look through them! you have inspired me to start, though i really wish christmas hadn’t happened so fast!
Sarah says
Sounds like a perfect Christmas for all of you, and a dream stash of yard toys, cars, and trucks for your little guy.
Jen @ a place 2 call home says
I love that you got him Christmas presents from goodwill, I feel like people think you need to buy new for Christmas. And if you hadn’t said anything we wouldn’t have known, thanks for keeping it real Katie.
ashley says
I haven’t downloaded our Christmas pictures yet….and it was our sweet Liam’s first.
Whitney says
Love the wrapping paper bow on the tricycle. Did you just attach each piece to the tricycle? Love that your house is so bright and cheery!
Megan says
I was just looking at my blog and realized I hadn’t uploaded Christmas or our vacation afterwards. I’m such a lazy blogger! Thank God for Facebook or else my family would never see some of our photos!
I always wanted one of those Little Tykes cars growing up. I would have to totally snatch one up for $6 even if my daughter may not like it (although she would, she got a Radio Flyer trike for her Christmas too and has a RF car from her 1st birthday). Have you seen the cars around the good ol’ ‘net with all the new fancy color schemes?! Spray paint is making them look all snazzy!
Julia says
Love that you bought your kiddo toys from goodwill for Christmas. We did the same thing, easier to stay in budget and they really don’t care!
Jennifer says
The cozy coupe has been the best toy EVER in our house! Both kiddos love it, and never seem to get tired of it. Sweet pictures 🙂
Heidi says
I think we have the same red polka dot PJs! They’re perfect for Christmas.
Katie says
No I haven’t seen them but I need to now! Off to google!

Katie says
It’s really easy – it’s just squares with triangle notches in the center…then you tie all the layers to the trike and fold the paper – tucking it into itself. It helps when you have an awkward object and all that leftover squares from too long wrapping paper 🙂

Katie says
Noted! No climbing on top!
And glad to hear that Sunny made it through her traumatic event 🙂

Katie….like you, I’m a HUGE Goodwill lover. However, I’m beginning to wonder if yours is just way bigger or way better than mine. Ours is pretty big and I always find something I want there. And occationally I come across something AMAZING!! But, I’m curious….for all the awesomeness that you come across, do you stop in there a couple times a week?? 🙂 Maybe I’m just missing things because I go once or twice a month??
Great Christmas photos…as always, i love reading about your family…it reminds me of mine. 🙂

My twins each got a cozy coupe for Christmas as well, from my mom. Behind on pictures? No, but only one coupe has been assembled. The other one is sitting in pieces in the corner of the living room STILL. Luckily there has been no major war over the one the moves…
Kelly says
I love all of your Christmas posts! I’m actually glad you just got to this one, so it can be dragged out longer. 🙂 I love reading about and looking at pictures of your family (hope that’s not creepy!). My cousin had that car when we were little and it’s in tons of family pictures with some cousin riding around in it!
Melanie @ Mailbox Journey says
What a fantastic day! Love the first picture of that waffle breakfast :p
Urban Wife says
Now I’m really sad that Christmas is over, seeing all your lovely pictures. Which reminds me that I still need to edit some pictures from our trip to Israel from 2 years ago. So no, you’re not the only one with a crazy, jumbled up life. 🙂
p.s. Clearly, your local Goodwill is awesome. A Radio Flyer?! I’ll be lucky if I find some Faded Glory jeans at our local Goodwill.
Laura says
Katie, did you get that radio flyer at the goodwill in hamilton mill. I saw one there one day when I was shopping for some frames. I actually picked up a plasmacar for only $9.99 the same day I saw that radio flyer. Goodwill finds are the best!
melissa says
those waffles look yum! you are not alone, actually ordering some pictures instead of just dumping them onto the computer is actually on my resolution list http://qbixblog.blogspot.com/2012/01/list-tastic.html

I gotta say – my husband and I did a little happy dance when we saw our boo boo chicken on your Christmas card display! I’m so glad you received it – and so glad you displayed it! We showed our fam and told Cohen he was famous … But he’s 13 months so he just mumbled baby talk back … But we assume it means he’s excited! 🙂
Seems you had a wonderful holiday. Best wishes for an amazing 2012!

Loved the card! I did the running man when I got it 🙂

I love that you are loud and proud about thrifting your little mans Christmas!! I love a happily ever after thrift story!!
Sarah says
I LOVE that you scored such awesome deals for Christmas presents! Santa finds great deals there every year and stores them in our attic until Christmas Eve. I’ve had lots of friends look at me like I’m crazy when I tell them that…but then I hear how much $$ they spend on their kids for christmas, and I don’t just look at them like they’re crazy…I TELL them they are, lol 🙂
Liz leybeck says
I am right there with you Katie. That’s bizarre I feel like I shouldn’t be on a first name basis with you since you have no idea who I am, but there you go. I have yet download the images and I blame it on the fact that I have a “newborn,” who am I kidding she is almost 3 months old, but I am milking that excuse as long as possible. On a different note, I have been praying for you and your desire for more kids. That also sounds bizarre, but I know how encouraging it was for me when we were trying for our sweet Paige.
Katie says
Oh thank you Liz! I need all the prayer I can get! And 3 months is totally a newborn. Heck…all babies under a year are newborns to me! Good luck with your downloading 🙂

That last picture of Will is INSANELY ADORABLE!!!!!
Lori in OR @ Lighten Up! says
Love the clear glass ornament photo (and the one of your feet). It is a treat to see things through your photographer’s eye.
Love the back-and-forth. Isn’t it cute? It’s like they can’t drag themselves away from the pleasure of one for too long, even for the pleasure of the other.
My fave? The froggy bottom shot. Adorable.

Awwww great presents… My little one Megan receive a Cozy Coupe too [ http://www.walmart.com/ip/Little-Tikes-Cozy-Coupe-Ride/10899315%5D We love it
You know? Will and Megan share birthday ^_^
Nessa@CasaBraaflat says
that cozy coupe will pay for itself 10 fold, maybe more considering you got it for $5. my mother in law got one for about the same price and the grandkids always fight over it. so much that she actually found a second one. now the rule is the two littlest get to play with them.
Donna says
Will is adorable! I miss that age sooo much. My “little man” is about to turn 15. Time really does fly!
Love your blog, too.
