It’s been a while for a good ole fashioned Will-fest, so get ready.
Warning: there is no format here…just random info along with too many November photos of my little man. I’m free spirited like that.
Will is not the best waker-upper. He usually is in a cranky mood these days. He used to rise and shine…but now, notsomuch. And since I’ve been buried in a black-hole of photo editing, Jer sometimes can save me those few extra spare moments in the morning by waking up early with him until it’s time to work…thus creating what I’ve called “The Era of Daddy”. Yup. Will hates me these days. It always kinda breaks my heart a little. After nap time (when Jer is still working) I go to get him up. When I peek in the door, he starts crying…calling for Diddy. Yes. My new nickname is Chopped Liver.
He’s obsessed with bikes. And that includes wearing the helmet after the ride is over. Them are some dirty shoes.
We had a few days right before Thanksgiving that it was so warm, we pulled out shorts and flipflops. Will just went topless. I threw beads at him 🙂
Note the ridiculously dusty floors. That’s the path to the guest bedroom. Apparently, we don’t go down there very often…and clean the hallway even less. Like I said….black hole.
Checking ‘Take a nature hike’ off the fall list was actually really fun. We just explored the woods behind the house…Jer & I held hands…it was a great day.
Our little Werewolf has turned into quite the big helper…he has chores – one of which is taking the recycling items from the kitchen to the bin in the garage. And I can say “Time for CHORES!” and he runs in all excited. He especially loves ‘helping’ daddy take it out to the curb…which usually means just running alongside.
And yes, I was already in the bushes when they came walking by. Don’t ask.
Our neighbors driveway to their guest house is not paved and Will loves the rocks. Let’s just say that keeping him occupied only involves a bunch of stones and the simple word “throw”.
All of our leaves are gone now. I love the sound of them crunching under his little blue shoes. He’s in love with these shoes. We bought them in three sizes already…I might go back to Target for the next eight sizes just in case. They start off navy and by the time he’s done with them, they are a blueish gray…with muddy red clay bits all over.
It’s kinda crazy how early the sun is setting these days. Makes for ridiculously early photo shoots. And it finally dawned on me why southern facing windows are good. Unfortunately we only have two.
Will had this cowlick that pretty much rocks my world. It’s kinda like a little party on the crown of his head.
I think he needs a trim. It’s all crazy now. It’s funny to think back to when he was sideburnless…not that his current burns are anything to write home about.
When he gets really excited, he gets this little nose wrinkle….I love that nose wrinkle more than bacon.
I need to frame this one. It’s so him.
November marked my dad’s 59th birthday. I can’t believe it. In my head he still has dark hair and a mustache and a basketball under his arm.
Time flies huh?
The shame. I let Webster accidentally die on the porch. Yup – all our neighbors have Christmas lights up and we still have pumpkins out…well….some pumpkins and one melted spider. Black freaking hole.
If it helps, Jer did pull the box out with the tree in it. I have to restring a few lights…Will thought he could help.
Lately we have been letting Will sit in the big stools for a couple meals a week. I don’t know why – but he LOVES it. It must have something to do with being able to see everything going on.
“Uck” is his favorite thing in the whole world….specifically “ApAp’s Uck” – Pappap’s Truck. Dad scoots the seat all the way forward and let’s him play with everything. This includes the horn…which he beeps with his belly….for like an hour.
Little tooshie covered in dirt…
Since I’ve been working so hard and so many hours, it’s been tough lately to get out with friends. And when I say tough, I mean pretty much impossible. This was a rare moment with Uncle Torrey and our friends Billy & Hayden. Hayden sometimes gives us his hand-me-downs and basically it’s like christmas over here when that happens. I get all weird and giddy. It’s amazing how free baby clothes can have such an effect on me.
Obsessed with any power tools. Such a little handy man…
These little white muffin holders were a wedding present from my grandparents. I have no idea who makes them or where to get them…but they are perfect for Will’s meals. I fill up each little section with different goodies and then let him go at it.
I tried to stage a photo for Will with the pumpkins…ya know…to mark the fall…and I was bribing him with candy and this was the best I got. I can’t be certain but I’m pretty sure that he knows exactly what is going on….just look at the camera and you get your sweets.
Coloring is totally different now. He is more into taking the crayons in and out of the box than the act of coloring itself. I con him into doing it by putting them all on one side and then telling him to pick up one and mark and put down on the opposite side. He likes the order of that I think. He’s very into ‘processes’…pick up, color, put down…pick up, color, put down.
Weird side note…I got this little necklace at Kirklands. It has a little W on it. It was six dollars but I basically got it for free with a coupon my sister was using. Merry Christmas to me.
Oh la la. Check out that ab.
This is a very quintessential Will photo….paci, lovie, eyes that scream – what the heck are you doing mom?
Have you had the peppermint milkshakes at Chickfila? Yum. I save all my calendar milkshake coupons for this time of year…so I can have extra deliciousness.
Will’s recently discovered the joys also.
Oh and see that little chair he’s on? Yeah…basically the best thing in our house right now. It’s called a Sweet Seat and we were sent one by the fine family that creates them to give it a whirl. Oh. My. Lands. End. It rocks. basically it goes with us now whereever we go so be prepared for a million photos with this thing somewhere in the background or under Will’s toosh.
Remember the photo of him at the counter…yup…made possible because of the Sweet Seat. And he lugs it around inside the kitchen to sit in the big red kitchen chairs. And it is like a laminated fabric – so it cleans up super easy – my favorite. Plus, since he is at that age where he wants to be included in everything – it makes him feel like a big boy.
And after he eats in it, he pulls it down off the chair and carries it to his toys to use it while playing. Obsessed. Here’s the photographic evidence….
And it’s perfect for his size. I highly HIGHLY recommend it. (as do MANY others) I told my mom that she needs one for when the grandkids are over and they need a booster…it would take up less room because it is so compact compared to a giant highchair. And Jer picked out the polka dots…he said that it could work for both for both boys or girls…isn’t that the sweetest thing?! And no, I’m not pregnant…just obsessed with babies.
So my official review grade – is A+ and Will gives it a A++. Oh and just in case you are interested in one, say for like an upcoming holiday or something, here’s the link – Sweet Seat. And here’s a couple other options in colors that they have that are seriously darling too…
So that leads me to my next topic…what have you guys been up to? Christmas stuff done yet? Any melting pumpkins? Anyone else’s toddler rejecting them for their daddy? Join the Chopped Liver club…or maybe this is just the perfect excuse to have a girls night out?!

So cute! And so getting me a sweet seat! And my little Hunter has those blue shoes too. And he requests them “Blue shoes, please mommy.” I am thinking he’s getting a size up in those too
Kristen @ Popcorn on the Stove says
Will looks so grown up in the picture where you said is so him!! Absolutely adorable!
Don’t fret about being in a black hole. You’ll get out soon, and I’m sure just in time for the holidays, so it’ll be twice as sweet! I’m in a black hole of Christmas decorating and trying get our apartment into shape (somehow, it’s still a mess post-wedding).
mary says
Great post. You are doing a fine job with the blog and everything else…your “black hole” is still filled with more than the average human being can get done in a day. We have a handle on Christmas here. Shipped what needed to be shipped. Bought most everything I need for my family online. Just got cookie stuff today. Just taking it one thing/one day at a time and slowing down to enjoy. If I don’t get to it, I don’t get to it. Decided I’m not doing cards and not going to feel bad about it. With FB, we all know eachother’s every move anyways!Husband comes home for three days for Xmas and than off to Afghanistan. With this happening, I really am taking it easy on myself this holiday season. I hope you get a chance to slow down too.
Caroline says
The melted Webster picture is hilarious. I love it. Very Halloween-y. And Will is adorable as ever. Seriously laughed out loud at the picture of him with the CFA shake and the hard hat over his eyes. Love it!
Good luck with that black hole – YOU CAN DO IT!!!

I totally have melting pumpkins…covered in snow. #failing.

I feel super swamped with all of the holiday stuff. I have a ton of DIY Christmas projects to start and finish, decorate the tree, and I need to think about starting my shopping…sheesh!
Will’s monster boots are so frickin cute! I want to get a pair for myself!

That sweet seat is awesome!!
Please put Webster out of his misery. . .he’s kind of gross and slimy now. I can see his insides bleeding all over your porch! Icky!

I love your blog. You make me feel like it’s ok to be in a Black Hole! I look at other blogs and feel like I’m SO behind… yours is so real. Love it.
SOME day I’ll be back to normal…whatever that is!

The photo of Will with the pumpkins reminds me of one of your photos of Cole. They look similar – both are very handsome!
The Sweet Seat is adorable. I love that he carries it around with him!
I can’t help but think after all your posts about Will that he is very lucky to have a mom who documents his life so carefully! I can’t wait to do the same with my future kids. I mean, seriously, how many kids have family photos with a 5D Mark II? I sure didn’t but my kids will!
Rebecca says
I’m pretty sure Cole has made the exact expression Will is making in the candy-bribing-pumpkin-photo. I never thought they looked that much alike until I saw that photo!

We definitely let our pumpkins die on the front porch too. Love the will photo fest!

Katie, I just love these Will posts. He cracks me up and makes me smile every single time! Those eyes! Gah! My little man Luke is 5 months old and I just love seeing all the fun I have to look forward to with a young mister. All those little personality “quirks” that make him who he is are too sweet and I love your dedication to capturing them as they are. It reminds me that I need to be intentional about remembering these precious details (I wanted to write precious moments right there but that makes me think of the figurines) as they unfold because these times are fleeting. Great photos and good work at giving us an idea of what Will is like these days!
MS says
thanks so much for the sweet seat review. i’ve been on the lookout for something like that for my 2 year old. just placed an order! thanks katie!

Oh man, I wish you had a link for those muffin plates. Do you know there’s a whole website/facebook page for “Muffin Tin Mondays”? Meals dedicated to using muffin tins to make sure you give your wee ones a variety of foods! I’ve been on the hunt for cute ones for my girls ever since and that is by FAR the cutest I’ve ever seen!
Kelly says
Will is such a cutie and reminds me so much of my little guy. At 17 months, he’s going through a “daddy” phase as well. Like Will, he still wakes up at night and he won’t go back to sleep for me, he wants Daddy. How he knows who is patting his back, I’m not sure.
Kathie says
Yup, my 18 month old is in favor of rejecting me for Daddy constantly. The only time I get love is when I’m watching a football game…because my boy is obsessed with football. His favorite word lately is “Touchdown!”…complete with hand signals. So I go with it. Daddy gets extra Quinn time and I get extra mommy time to oh, sew or drink a glass of wine. I figure it’ll come back around eventually.
Marla says
Happy Birthday to your dad – I remember the mustache 🙂 Sounds like Will is in that stage that so many little boys enter right around his age – the transition from being mama’s little baby to daddy’s big boy. It’s exciting for the little guy but tough on mommy (been there and going through it a little now too). The more graceful we are about it (which you seem to be), the less dramatic it becomes and they don’t completely forget mommy – eventually. Truthfully, it was hard to let go, but I’m grateful my 7 year old is his daddy’s right hand man today! Still, feel the sting of it for ya!
John@Our Home from Scratch says
There’s literally WAAYYY too much here for me to comment on! I will admit that our pumpkins on the porch met a similar fate to your spider. I then proceeded to kick them off the porch and now I have to clean them off of the yard. Crapola.
Ammie says
Great post!
Where did you get Will’s Monster shoes?
And I’m in the chopped liver club too =( I have 9 month old twin boys and they were all mama until one day things just switched and now all they (both) want is their daddy! It breaks my heart – but then again, sometimes it’s the 2 second break I needed =)

Creepy commenter alert…you should gave an Atlanta Blog Meetup Girls Night…I would totally come! 🙂 Annnnnd I feel like a stalker.

i’ve read your blog for awhile now… but i just can’t help it anymore – i think our boys look SO much alike. will is older, and has straight hair, but their faces and their ginger hair are freakin’ me out. i love looking at photos of will because it feels like looking into the future and seeing my reid as a big boy. 🙂
Krysta @ Domestic for Dummies says
Will is just too freakin’ cute. I can’t believe how big he’s gotten! This is a totally random question, but have you all ever considered getting a dog? Ya know, since you have so much time for one.

I love love love these Will posts! I have a 9-month-old and following you and Will is so much fun! I get to see what I have to look forward to…. Marcus has started throwing things, which makes for a lot of “throwing stuff” photos like Will. I’m looking forward to more Will Fests!! (And don’t worry about the black hole. It’ll pass and then you’ll be able to enjoy all the fun Christmas-y awesomeness!)
Maria says
1. Your awesome pics are overwhelming! Bf and I take tons of pics of our little man but I think you may have us beat. Ha! I especially love pics of him just waking up- like the first one you posted. Sweetness!
2. I keep hearing great things about the CFA peppermint milkshake and still haven’t tried it. Must get one ASAP!
3. Love that seat, too! And those boots, where’d you get them again? I kid! Gymboree, gymboree, gymboree!
4. And Girls’ Night Out?! Count me in! Well, virtually at least…
Sarah in Indiana says
Ha, that melting pumpkin is totally something I would do. We so rarely use the front door, I forget to do anything to it. It would be really easy to abandon a pumpkin. Our tree us set to but not decorated. Christmas decorations are one of the things on my overly ambitious list for the weekend. Have fun making your way out of the black hole and winning back the affections of your little cutie.
kyley says
“Just look at the camera and you get your sweets” ha. That’s the same tactic I use to get my dog to sit still for a photo 🙂

Will is so adorable! I love that he gets excited to help with chores! So cute 🙂

hi,
nothing related to your post, but i am too in same condition.. hoping for a baby each day.. my elder one is now going to be 4 and half years and now he too seems to be missing on his sibling :(…. wish .. wish and wish.. each day…
Tabitha@aintlifesweet says
I just love your little family – you guys are adorable. My hardwood floors match yours, and I’ve pretty much given up on them – socks are being worn, so I suppose the kids will dust them!
Our tree is up, but that’s about it. I still have lights & greenery to put up & a million crafts & gifts to make. Oh why do the holidays come so FAST?!
Mandy S says
Ok, I need to go to Chick FilA and get me a peppermint milkshake, even though its only 30* outside! And what a great idea for the muffin holder. I am totally obsessed with Will and Clara, and you and Sherry are always inspiring me with ideas for not only the home, but our nieces and nephews as well (no kids for the hubs and I).
We actually grew mini pumpkins in our garden this year, and I may have let 2 disintegrate out there…maybe we’ll get more next year without replanting. I do have some onions growing in my compost bin 😉

Will is such a cutie!! My Christmas is almost done! Just a few more presents to pick up and then we are ready!

I keeping thinking I want to ask if Uncle Torrey is single. but then I keep getting embarrassed and thinking that is a totally ridiculous thing to ask. so I’m not going to. but really? um…is he? haha. (ps I really hope he doesn’t read the comments on your blog. oh gosh I’m embarrassed again.)
Sara says
I had one pumpkin melt on the porch, and the other 2 that were untouched I spray painted red and green and gave them little tin foil ornament tops to keep them for Christmas decorations. I love them 🙂

When my first son was this age I was affectionately called a foot. It came from my pedi (we’re especially chatty) and when he asked how everything was going I told him about the daddy obsession and he told me that especially with stay at home or work at home moms, kids come to expect them to be around….in baby’s mind there are his hands and feet (always there when he looks for them) and since you are always there when he expects you, he places you in the same category as his foot. You don’t get excited to see your foot, do you? Nope. So on days when Hubby would come home from work and Eddie would flip his shit, I would pout in the corner and sigh “I am a foot…” 🙂
I suppose if you’re going to be a foot, at least be a pretty one with a nice pedicure!
Kelly says
By the way… my husband just scraped our melted pumpkins off the porch last weekend. I told him they were cramping my snowman wreaths style (fab pinterest creation).
Lauren says
Love the seat! I’m definitely ordering one for my nephew! Also, the picture of Will playing in the leaves should totally be in a Gap ad! 🙂
Ammie says
If you can’t find muffin trays you like, try ice cube trays. Each snack might fill two spots instead of one muffin spot, but you have lots of shape options and you can still get them the variety!

Hi Tanz & Katie,
I have been thinking about Katie having baby fever for awhile and though I know it must be hard and getting tons of random voices from the internet probably doesn’t help. But I really wanted to share I started to take a liquid cal/magnesium supplement because my naturopath said how crucial magnesium is for our nerves to work (plus women almost always need more calcium) just as general advice and well I swear it did the trick for us. Good Luck.
Susie says
My gosh, Will is a cutie! And I totally feel your pain, Katie — when I went in to get Eamonn up this morning, I opened the door and he said, “Hi, Didda!” and when he realized it was me, he started crying. We should start a support group…”Hi, my name is Katie and I’m Chopped Liver.” 😉
alisa d says
It’s the same with my daughter… she is daddy’s girl now through and through. She wants him to do everything for her if he is at home. My heart breaks a little every time too. It’s a little comforting to know it’s not just my child. 🙂
Will is such a gorgeous boy. Thanks for sharing the pics and a little view into your life.
Merry Christmas!
Lori @ Lighten Up! says
Hugs to you (and to Katie). That heartache is so painful, isn’t it? My 13-year-old still “misses” the siblings she doesn’t have, even though she knows I can’t have any more kids.
Actually, I miss them, too.
Lori @ Lighten Up! says
Love this! I just found a pumpkin in the garage last weekend. It’s in great shape – it got taken out of the car by my husband, unbeknownst to me, and forgotten. I should *totally* make it into a Christmas decoration. I’m going to get my daughter right on that. She loves to paint.
Randa says
Ha haaaa… laughing out loud at the thought of you lurking in the bushes with camera in hand, waiting for them to walk by! Too funny.
I’ve heard and read a lot that fathers usually play such a huge role in the development of a well- adjusted child, so it’s pretty awesome that Will has such a great one, and that he (Will) loves his Diddy so much. That’s not to say that single moms don’t have a chance, however… take Ben Carson’s life, for example (Gifted Hands).
Olivia says
So my husband and I have been dreaming of starting a small little family of our own…its official- we’d like to have a little Will!! When can you send him over? 😉
