This foyer table and surrounding nook is terribly hard to decorate. It’s like putting bronzer on a Vampire…it just doesn’t make sense. The wrap-around formation makes for an odd wall arrangement…but for Halloween, I really really wanted to use it as the ‘candy table’. After all…Halloween is really all about the candy.
It all began with the black square frames that I put catty-wompus in the center section. I didn’t really want to spend a lot on creating an arrangement that would only be used for a short period of time…so I dug these frames outta the basement. The graphic errie arrangement work with the stuff I already had stashed away in my Autumn Decor bin. The black spider webs that are cascading down on the far right is actually a table runner that I picked up last year in a post-Halloween-clearance bin at Pier 1. Can you believe that I got it for less than $1? Put that awesomesauce on your bacon and eat it.
The table itself was draped with last year’s orange and black plaid fabric (I got the one yard and have never hemmed it – just throw and go!)…and then on top of that I used a little bit of cheese cloth to give it that whole ‘ghostly’ effect.
The center frames really had me head-scratching my giant cranium. They created a little issue for me because they don’t have glass, mats or backs. They are simply frames. So I knew that whatever I hung in them would have to be tied to the frame itself or stuck to the wall behind the frame.
Since we kinda had a spider theme going with Webster, I chose to continue that by first creating the little spiderweb in the bottom frame. It’s just embroidery floss tied to itself to make a web. Then I took a little more thread and tied it to a black skeleton and a black spider (they were in a pack of plastic bugs and halloween rings at Dollar Tree) and simply attached them to the frames. I love how the spider looks like he’s coming down to his web 🙂 Oh and the EEK is actually black duct tape I just cut out and stuck directly to the wall. It’s like my homemade wall decal.
The arrangement needed some height so I used the big black candlesticks on either side. I love how draping a little cheese cloth on the candlestick instantly makes it spooky. Then I arranged some pumpkins around and a candlestick with a white ceramic skull (yup, I got bit by the white ceramic bug that my girl Sher lives with). The skull was actually my only new thing I bought this season….it was $1 at Michaels…and being a nerdy science lover, I love it. Is it weird that when I see that, I don’t think of gruesomeness but of anatomy class?
The other side is also flanked with the black cheese-cloth draped candlestick as well as my old black 3 candlestick holder and a few more pumpkins. Of course my little ghost Casper also made an appearance.
The candy (we went with KitKat’s this year – Jer’s favorite) needed a very special bowl. I think the mercury glass bowl brings a classy but spooky element to the arrangement. Plus it is just so darn pretty.
Another angle of the table for ya. Did it spook you? It’s okay to say so.
Well, this is the only bit in the house that got Halloweenie-fied (haha…you know what makes me giggle)…and I love it.
Did you Halloweenie-fy anything (heehee…growupkatie)? Or maybe you just want to chime in to tell me that Kit-Kats are your favorite too? I love peanut M&M’s and Almond Joys…I think because of the nuts. And yes, it is very hard for me to keep it clean thankyouverymuch.

Random side note: Jessica Simpson totally stole your baby announcement idea!! The picture looks so similar. She totally reads your blog 😉

Love it! So simple yet looks so put together. And I love me some Kit-Kats. I also won’t turn down a Snickers or a Reese’s PB cup. As for non-chocolate, I’m a little addicted to Skittles.

Kit-kats are my favorite as well! I wouldn’t turn down a Twix though.
I love how you used the cheese cloth!

That is by far the cutest Halloween tableau I’ve seen this year. Love the kooky frame arrangement and web table runner. You have quite the decorating eye. Kudos!

Is it sad that when I saw the first picture I thought “Oh, she hung a Pier 1 table runner on the wall”? Loooove a good Pier 1 deal. We didn’t do anything inside this year, but I made these little ghosts (http://thisdiylife.wordpress.com/2011/10/26/ghastly-ghosts/) to coordinate with the s’more ghosts that we handed out to the treaters (http://thisdiylife.wordpress.com/2011/10/28/scary-smores/).
Love the ensem you did on the cheap. Things don’t have to be expensive to look ahhhh-mazing 🙂

Yep, kit-kats are my favorite too!!! We passed out bubbles (left over from my summer wedding) for Trick-or-Treat and they were a HIT!

I could never put a bowl of KitKats in my house. They would be gone in a day! Love your holiday decorating!

I’m so excited that you said “catty-wompus”! My husband says it ALL the time; he is Southern but he married me (a Yank) and we live in central PA. The poor dear gets made fun of all the time for saying it. However, I adore all of his crazy Southern sayings 🙂

I mean…….REALLY?!!!!! Why can I not come up with freakin’ cute ideas like this?!!!! Love your table!!! Love your front porch decor!! Love your house!! Love your goofy a$$ sense of humor!! Ok…I am officially depressed while in complete awe of your awesomeness.

Hi Katie – just pinned your table – LOVE IT! And for so cheap too. You’re are my hero! And Sherry of course too. I’ve learned so much from you gals and actually look for used stuff first before buying new.
Love your blog, your ideas, your awesome sense of humor! You and Sherry make my day 🙂

Adorbs! You did a great job with am awkward space. Here’s my unsolicited advice–if you aren’t married to the idea of keeping a table there, maybe consider turning it into a little reading nook with a comfy chair and maybe a slim bookshelf if it would fit.
Also, soooo jealous of your candy! I never buy candy I actually like because I will EAT ALL OF IT! Those poor little trick or treaters would have to pry their candy from my death grip.

Looks great!
I see frames on the stair wall…. I want.to.see.now!
Why must you tease me like that? Tisk, tisk =)
