A beach house would be the appropriate location for our living room sconces. That silly Sally.
To be perfectly honest, even if I owned a seaside vacation home, I probably still wouldn’t want them. They are like the Owen Wilson of sconces…a little retro, pretty simple, beach bummy…and anyone that has mancations with Woody Harrelson just isn”t my style.
The little gold details and matte glass sea shell shade needed to go.
Oh and the photo above is probably the most accurate when it comes to wall and trim color. ick.
So we headed off to Lowes and spent close to an hour talking about each one of their sconces. We finally decided that every single one of the sconces weren’t what we were thinking…
hence, we bought the sconce and glass shade separate. Did you know you can do that? Yup. You sure can. The oil-rubbed bronze base was sold separately and then we just picked out the glass part in their selection.
I like how the shade has a subtle details…kinda like it has a linen texture.
So that’s how we updated our living room lights. Anyone interested in buying some Owen lights? They are very easy-going and can really rock the limelight 🙂
No takers, huh?
Maybe instead you would be interested in a wall decal or two. Well, good news! We are welcoming Evgie Nev as a sponsor and they have some fabulous wall decals. PLUS, they are offering Bower Power readers a 10% off discount when you use the code ‘bpblog’ at checkout. Do they sound familiar? It’s because they did a giveaway recently for all you fine folks…so check them out!
That’s all for now! Hope you are enjoying your Wednesday!

The new sconces definitely fit your decor a lot better!

I love when you post twice in day.
I also love your new sconces.

These look so much better! I like the simplicity of them.

The new sconces definitely fit in better with your style and decor. Nice improvement! And that trim would make me cry…not because of the color but thinking of having to paint it all. Holy smokes!
Heather says
Ok, I seriously think your readers (or your handy neighbors!) need to pull together a painting party for you. The toothpaste needs to go!!! But the scones are a HUGE improvement! The seashell ones are straight from The Golden Girls set. Ewww.
Karla says
Looks great!! I honestly didn’t even know those sconces were there before. The new ones are beautiful! You’ve had some crazy lights in that beautiful house of yours! 🙂
Lynn says
Love the sconces. They definitely are more ‘Katie” than the others that were there. I totally agree about the paint color and am honestly surprised its stayed this long…only because we know how much youve loathed it from day 1!!! So spill it…whats the plan to change it? Is it in the some what near future?
Maggie says
The new sconces are so much better! But can we please get a wide shot like we had for the old ones so we can get the whole picture?
Seriously, that paint has got to go. Toothpaste is for bathroom sinks, not your walls. I say bribe everyone to come over to paint and get rid of it.

In love with the sconces. Seriously- slightly drooling over them here, but I agree with above readers that they also serve to highlight the awful-ness of the wall color. My theory is that before, the tacky-Vegas-decor-rejects grabbed so much attention that the wall color was secondary. Now that you’ve replaced the sconces with chic gorgeousness there is nothing to save the color from scrutiny
On an unrelated note, can I just say that I love how much you’ve been posting lately. Seriously, at the risk of sounding borderline obsessed-ish, life has been a bit crazy lately, and not always in a good way. I love that every time I’m online avoiding productivity and randomly think, I wonder what Katie’s been up to (because in my mind we’re totally BFF), I open the blog and .. *gasp*… a new post! It makes my day just that much more pleasant.
*Disclaimer*– the rambling in the above post may in part be fueled by an interaction between lack of sleep, emotional draining from work (I work on a pediatric oncology unit, ’nuff said), and an entire bag of Starburst jelly beans. I apologize. But seriously. Love the blog.

The sconces are sooooo much better. I really like the texture in the shade too! I didn’t know you could buy the base and shade separately – good to know!!
Teresa says
I like them… nice upgrade… anyway we could get a room shot like that first picture?
Teresa says
I read your comment and where you work and my first thought was “God bless you” I couldn’t do it and I am glad that there are people that can work in that field!!
Carrie says
Random, but I just clicked on a few of your wishlist items, and the cardigan is the sale of the day and 1/2 off! Go forth!

Katie! These rock! I am drawn to ORB too. But to echo previous commenters you really need to get rid of the Colgate and I love that you are updating so frequently.
I really can understand why you haven’t gotten to the painting yet, that is a whole lotta painting to do. Yay for paint parties!
Kristen @ Popcorn on the Stove says
New sconces = waaaaay better than the originals. Bleh. Who originally owned your house?!
Erin @ One Project at a Time says
Love the upgrade. The OSB definitely makes a statement and catches your eye. Can’t wait for the paint party!
Jess @ Little House. Big Heart. says
Well that looks 110% better.

We call him Napoleon…and all we really know is that he was from Africa and his taste was definitely different than ours 🙂

Yeah, what they said. Also, Love your living room! Owning a white sofa is definitely on my bucket list. Maybe when I’m done having kids and they’ve moved out, and bf learns to keep crumbs to himself. Kudos!
Traci @yellowWISHBONE says
Love the sconces yall picked! I would definitely say the previous owners had “interesting” tastes… 🙂
Peggy says
I’m looking for sconces for my living room and really like these. I have looked all over Lowes and their website and haven’t found them. do you know the name of these particular ones?
Katie says
I don’t! But I know that the sconces are sold separately from the shades and they were with all the bathroom lights. Hope this helps a little!
