I decorated one little easter nook in our living area. It’s nothing fancy but when I glance over my shoulder at it (while watching Drop Dead Dive on Netflix) I smile a little bigger…and that is hard to do because that show is cheesy and the ridiculousness gives me a permasmile.
I started with one of the mirrors that used to hang in our den. It’s the one that I made look like a windowpane. And then I put a little photo storage box…for height. The color makes me smile too.
On top of the photo box, I put the little white birdcage. I love birdcages….almost to an unhealthy degree. I already have three. And I want more. like a thousand more. Next to the birdcage I popped some recycled flowers from Will’s birthday party into some mini vases. They actually are glass spice bottles I dug out of an old dumpster when I was in college. And yes, the gross old spices were still inside. I used denture cleaner to get them spic & span. That’s a weird old trick that works when glass bottles are too small to get a scrubber inside.
The eggs in the footed huricane are my favorites though…I used the ones that we dyed to mix and match with my painted feathered eggs. feathers, petals, whatever you want to call them. These are actually blown eggs…so I can use them for years to come.
Never blown an egg before? It’s easy. Just poke a little hole in one end with a straight pin…swirl that pin around until the hole is about as big as a quarter of a pea. Then turn to the other end and poke four little holes – just in and out. Then on the four-hole end, you are gonna blow till your head feels like it’s gonna explode. It’s a good idea to do it into a bowl…then you can scramble them for breakfast. It’s not easy but then you can fill the empty egg up with water & soap to clean it out. Then it’s free game for painting…I used watercolors…but acrylics would work too.
And the little bunny was from Goodwill. It was 79 cents. Worth every cutie-patootie penny.
So there it is. Our little Easter vignette that is oh so pretty for a spring time weekend. And I hope that you all are enjoying your holiday weekend. What are you doing this Easter? We have a lot on our horizon: a friends get-together, Easter breakfast at church, Easter lunch with family (along with the rest of our Christian Sader) and a easter egg hunt! Not to mention a cute Easter bucket for Will filled with goodies (which I better run and throw together right now before he wakes up from his nap and is all like “Dude, Mom, get me out this crib, I got a million toys I need to throw”).

Were not celebrating easter this year, sad or what. But with the savings for our wedding were just too poor to even buy a chocolate egg for each other … Lol

Katie-gotta say I LOVE how you dig stuff outta the trash. You seem to find the greatest stuff there. And your thrift store finds are AWESOME.

The Easter corner looks good and I love Drop Dead Diva, even though it’s cheesy!

Happy Easter to you too! My whole family is celebrating right now while I enjoy some quiet time in the lobby of our hotel, which we are spending the week in near Boston:) Traveling home tomorrow, what a way to celebrate!! Cute Easter decor by the way, simple, minimal, classy, just the way I like it.

You don’t need money to celebrate Easter! That’s not what it’s about!

I just finished Drop Dead Diva on Netflix yesterday! I am so sad that they only have the first season! I’ve never watched it before and it’s so cheesy but I love it now.
Stephanie says
Happy Easter! I am a freak for birdcages too!

I just went to my first Seder on Thursday. Just thinking about how perfectly God set that up so everything pointed back to Jesus still brings tears to my eyes. He is risen!

You could always substitute the traditional ham for the equivalent weight of bacon. Our Easter decor is either 1. edible (preferably chocolate) or 2. made of glitter-encrusted construction paper. I hate glitter. It is the herpes of the craft world! It cannot be contained! Evil in a beautiful form. But I love your little spice bottles-cum-bud vases. I cleaned out some grimy bottles with plain old sugar and rice with a few dribbles of water. Shake, shake, shake and they sparkle like, well, glitter. I suppose it is good for analogies, if not actual decoration.

Very cute Easter vignette but I’m mostly commenting b/c you totally cracked me up about the Drop Dead Diva show. I watched the whole thing last month on Netflix & it was so ridiculously cheesy… but I just kept on watching, even with my husband making fun of it the entire time!
Erin says
Happy Easter, Bowers! Enjoy your day 🙂

Love your blog, Katie! Cute Easter post too. 🙂

Those painted feathered eggs are beautiful! Is each petal painted free-hand, or did you color with a white crayon to keep the white part white while just painting varied intensities of the color around it? Gorgeous!!
Angela says
Same question about the eggs. How did you did the white markings? Look so intricate!
Oh, and Happy Easter!
Katie says
I just painted each petal free hand. It took a little time to do, but since it is watercolor and the task is fairly straightforward, it really wasn’t brainpower craft. It just was repeat repeat repeat. or repetal repetal repetal 🙂

Just make sure you wash your eggs before you blow them. My mom got sick from doing that once when she didn’t think to wash them first.
Katie says
ooohhh good tip. I guess I always wash mine anyway – because it helps the paint to stick better but yeah, if you wash them, you wouldn’t be putting your mouth on what came out of the chicken!

I love the vignette … so cute. What color is the wall? I’m looking for a gray-bluey color that doesn’t darken the room too much – and I love the crispness of this color! Thanks!

Cute Easter vingette! I always love when you whip these up – it’s so festive!

I wish I knew PJ. All the colors in the new house are a mystery!
