EEEK EEEK EEK!
That is the horror music sounding off. Forensic investigators, put away plastic baggies. First degree murder? Of style? Um yes.
Actually nobody got killed in there…although, every time I open the vanity doors I swear a detached head might roll out. It could happen. And nobody would know. because the splattered blood would just blend in. with the walls. and the cabinet. and the tile.
And yes, that toilet is what nightmares are made of. (please note that nastifest in the pot is antifreeze…not the remains of a sacrificed animal).
I have decided that this room needs to be the first to go. Anything would be better than this. ANYTHING. Okay…maybe not anything. Will’s room has wall treatment that are worse. But both definitely need a re-do. And since the bathroom is smaller, I’m gonna go with that first. That’s me…shootin for the stars.
So here is what is inspires me for this space…some randomness for ya crime scene investigators:

I love the picture with the farmhouse sink! so cute.

I never understand when people paint tiny spaces like that dark colors. Makes me claustrophobic. I know people call the bathroom “the office”, but I think they went too far trying to make it look like a law office or something.
p.s. Shout out to K-Bo in today’s blogpost!

Cait @ Hernando House says
Is it sad that I knew the first one was from PB?
Look where it looks like this room is going!
Christina says
The lines on the vanity aren’t bad – it’s amazing what a new paint job on the walls and furniture could do for this space. Those sconces are………interesting. Looking forward to seeing the transformation!
Alissa says
If I crop the terrifying walls out with my hands, I must admit that your existing vanity has some gorgeous lines. If you were into antique-style decorating, I’d say keep as is. But even so, I think it would be beautiful with a coat of paint. What are you thinking? Keep or demo?
Candace says
Oh man, I am LOVING this whole dusty green/blue & orange thing that’s starting to pop up places! Good luck & kick booty!!! It only took me 2 years to finish my two bathrooms (and they aren’t even done… SHH!)
For my own personal hell, check out this slice of heaven:http://candyskitchen.blogspot.com/2011/03/happy-2-year-blog-iversary-house-tour.html
I had forgotten how scary my place was… don’t know WHAT I was thinking!
Candace says
I would be tempted to paint that vanity, too! A fun & new color, and get rid of the antique faucet and sink.
Rebecca says
I noticed that most of your inspirational pics are in shades of red. Do you think the use of red will blend the tile in or make it stand out more? I can’t wait to see your thoughts on it!
ches says
Katie, I am anxious to see what you will do with this space. At least you aren’t potty training Will at the moment, he might be real scared to go potty 🙂
Mary G says
I love that last pic from Sarah’s House. I love that season and informed my husband that our next house should be inspired by it. Luckily he is on board-although he might just be agreeing with me because it is easier that way 😉
Good luck with that bathroom!
Kayla says
Our home has its flaws, but thank heavens its mostly just uneven floors and awkward doors, not a blood red murder scene!
Katie says
Seriously. I’ve heard of some people “seeing red” in the bathroom…but this takes it to a whole new level.

That bathroom sink vanity will be amazing with a nice coat of white paint, I don’t even mind the wooden counted top it reminds me of the one you just put in your master bathroom at your old house.
Question how come there is antifreeze in your toilet? Will you be able to clean it out, or just have to get a new?
P.S. I love your baseboard in your new house!!!
Excited to see what colours you pull together to match with the marble tile on the floor. I am sure you will make it all come together.
liz @ bon temps beignet says
That 4th picture is gorgeous. I can’t wait to see what you do! I feel a red, white and blue (but not american flag-y) theme coming.
Maggie @ Cheneyhome says
I LOVE that PB vanity and have eyed it for over year now. If it wasn’t for the price it would probably be in our spare bathroom. I hope you build one!
Krysta @ Domestic for Dummies says
This will be an amazing before and after no matter what you do with it. Can’t wait to see what you come up with! Is the wall painted or wallpapered?
Emy says
Oh my ! Katie… Poor thing ! I completely understand why you want to get over with this one pretty fast ! Good luck, but don’t worry, anything else than that would be a perfect improvement… can’t believe you actually see that place everyday ! Good luck, sure it’ll be great !
Sara says
I’m loving your inspiration pics. Can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Katie says
It’s most assuredly painted. Rag-painting at it’s finest.

Kristen says
Don’t you wish you could just ask people “What were you thinking?!” I’m sure you’ll have that bathroom looking great in no time. Can’t wait!
Lori and Ethne at wom-mom.com says
Rag-painting should have never been in!
I think I would paint the current vanity….It looks like it has a lot of potential and you are so good at painting projects! Consider it!

Have you seen Denny’s “BACONALIA” event on the news?? It’s definitely making headlines in Denver and I knew it would be right up your alley! =) Ha!
LauraJane says
I like to think about the person who painted this mess in the first place.. Like how they would take a step back, admire their work, and keep on dabbing… And then to sit back and be happy with the outcome…. HOW?
I don’t think the vanity would be all that bad (even if it’s not your style, as it’s not mine either) if the gore was removed from the walls and a neutral colour painted instead… It’s the combo that’s killing me
Jane @ The Borrowed Abode says
I’m kinda at a loss for words, seeing as that bathroom’s sponge paint and color are so . . . . Godawful. I’m not usually one to judge others’ decor choices, because to each their own – but this seriously looks Dexter completed a murder then mopped the walls with the body parts. Ew.
Jane @ The Borrowed Abode says
PS: I totally think you could paint the vanity for now to make it work.
Sarah@StyleandCentsability says
Wow- that is scary- what are some people thinking?
I say you could really make the existing vanity work. Paint and cool hardware go a long way!!!

Melissa @ Houseography says
Do you have blood on your hands? 🙂 Great idea to tackle the ugliest and smallest room first! Hopefully it will help inspire the rest of your work… For the next 4years!!!
Gracie says
Hi Katie. Do you remember what color the red paint was and what glaze you used? I want to paint our nightstands red and I’m just a little paint color challenged. 😉
Katie says
I believe the red paint was Valspar’s Posh Red…and the glaze was just clear glaze with some old brown paint mixed in (I have no idea what it was…just the darkest brown paint I could find in a Glidden Sampler.
Hope this helps!
