Here it is – the basement in the Dream House (with the lights ON!)

Oh – and just in case you wondered – I am in love with the Dirt Devil All-in-One stick vacuum. Since my cleaning saga is continuing…and continuing…and continuing, I couldn’t do it without my little devil. This thing is awesome. I got mine at HHGregg (for $20) and it is basically changing my life. It is like a vaccuum…and a dustbuster…and it can get in the little nooks and edges where the little dead bugs and dirt hides…and it has this extender handle that enables me to vacuum with the lightweight thing while still carrying Will and get up and down the stairs. Plus, since it plugs into the wall, there aren’t any problems with loss of power. It’s my new bff! Here’s a link if you want to see all the fun photos of it’s versatility or if you want to buy your mom a late Valentines Day gift:

Wow this house is HUGE! You’ll have room for loads of kids if you want!
It looks great, but I had to watch it on mute because I think your smoke detector alarm was going off? haha.. My dog heard it once and is now shaking by my feet 🙂
Tile….that looks like hardwood?
What the buttered biscuit?!
ooh sorry Kelly – and Kelly’s pooch. We definitely reset them all now so next time they won’t be scary 🙂

Is there a carbon-monoxide detector with a low battery? We moved into a house that had been vacant for a little while and we had the same chirping noise. The alarm system batter was low too and it binged every few minutes. It drove us crazy!
The basement looks great 🙂 I’m jealous of your house!
I love your house! It’s truly a dream house. Especially with all the acreage. Congratulations!
Congrats on the new home! I was just looking into getting a “dustbuster”/stick vac. Thanks for the recommendation. How does it do on carpet vs hardwoods vs tile?
Wow Bowers, I can only dream of having space like that in London. Amazing.
The basement looks great. I’m in love with those stairs. I haven’t really seen anything similar to your stairs before.
Well, we used our regular vacuum on the carpet – and then we just edged the carpet with the Dirt Devil….and it worked great. And it does wonderfully compared to a normal vac on hardwoods and tile….but remember to frequently clean out the inside – because it helps the suction stay up to maximum power!

Yeah – it was multiple fire alarms and carbon-monoxide detectors….no worries though – we changed out all the batteries just so that we knew when they were last charged up 🙂

Katie, your new house is amazing! I hope you never have to move away from this dream spot!! I can’t wait to see what you all do with this place to make it even more beautiful with your own touches!
How did you guys get such a great deal on this house? I am so jealous!
How was the price so low for what the previous owners bought it? I was trying to think if we could find something like this in Texas and I just don’t think we can 🙁
@Blair I reno-ed my place with tile that has a hardwood look–I love it! Minimal upkeep, easy to clean and I don’t sweat having it in the KT, butting up to the fireplaces and in one of the bathrooms. It’s a different shape/color than Katie’s–you can sort of see it here.
PS, Katie, I love the space–I’m jealous since basements aren’t as prevalent in AZ and I can picture it being a great kid and guest haven.
Oh my gosh, the basement is like it’s whole own little house! I bet it’s bigger than my entire house! That will be an amazing area to set up for missionaries home on furlough, since it’s has it’s own bathroom and kitchenette!
How many square feet is that house???
Amazing!
That basement will be awesome if or when you need it. You are so cute and very mom-ish talking about ways to get in trouble and timeout spots.
That’s pretty cool from up top!
I’ve just honestly never seen anything like it before!
That’s funny…my dogs heard it too and are now underneath the desk…both of them!! Haha they dont like that sound at all!
Besides that…that is one nice looking basement ma’am 😉
My, what ample space you have! Your house is almost the size of Rhode Island.
Could you please recommend a brand or place to get good, under the cabinet lights? My countertops are so shadowed by the kitchen lighting. Battery operated or plug in?
Thank you! Congrats on your dream home!
I’m feeling you on the non-stop cleaning. We moved February 1st into a house that had been empty and unloved for awhile and I still feel like I spend most of my downtime scrubbing various things. And my house is maybe the size of your basement! I’m taking you up on the Dirt Devil advice.
This place is huge! LOt’s of things can be done here and that’s one lovely stairs.
Well Joanne,
it was a foreclosure…so right away that was the biggest cost cutter. Secondly, the house needed alot of love – which qualified it for a rehab loan…so most people would shy away from that kinda deal – but not us, we are DIYers at heart and love loving a home back to health 🙂

I love the Basement!
It would be an amazing space to live if you were a teen ager! It would be like your own home, in your parents home…. is that what you were planning? – keeping will living there for ever 🙂
I know i would if i was a mum 🙂
xx
Might I recommend a steamer. My fiance and I purchased a foreclosure about a year ago which was filthy and the steamer saved us! I purchased the Wagner 905 On Demand Power Steamer from Lowes for about $100 and it’s the best money I’ve spent. It works wonders on grout, all the nooks and crannies and I just can’t say enough wonderful things about it. Your new house is amazing, you’ll be sure to enjoy all the space!
Thanks for the recommendation Mel! I’ll definitely look into it 🙂
