Last year, I resolved to memorize something ridiculously long. The book of James. And I failed miserably.
I kinda knew I would. I did get the first chapter down…right before I had Will and completely lost any and all brain capacity.
I stink at memorizing…I still forget my multiplication tables…which shames my former-math-teacher-father. Seriously though…like I really need to know 7 times 6? I mean, isn’t that what iPhones are for?
Anyhoo…this year, I also expect to utterly fail at my resolutions. But like someone-famous said “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take”. So true. And because I know myself (and my habit of getting bored with resolutions about 30 days out) I decided that instead of making a year long resolution, I would make month long ones. You know…mix it up a bit….get crazy…go wild…lift up your shirt and expose your belly and do the truffle shuffle! (1000 points if you know and love that movie)
So what is your resolution?
I like the idea of monthly resolutions 🙂
Duh – the Goonies! I had a Truffle Shuffle sticker on my old VW Jetta in high school. One of my favorites!
I love the month goals – you have some good ones!
i love the goonies. and seary?
love this idea (and the goonies)! I recently wrote an article for the site Mama Moderne and did a post on my blog, about trying one new thing each month for a year (kinda like your idea). I did this a few years back (before I had a baby) and ended up learning so much about myself, so I am bringing it back before I get totally lost in momhood 😉
Rock on sister. I too get a little bored when there is one huge task facing me…which leads to procrastination and huge failure in the resolutions department. My goal this year is to add color to my house in little ways…no more khaki castle!
I’m with ya on the January goal, although something scary for me would be to think about getting myself dressed and ready for the day instead of staying in my pjs until 4:00 (giving me just about enough time to get dressed and presentable and whip up some sort of dinner.). Seriously. I have a two year old!
Blessings to you,
Holly

I love this and am excited to see what you do for some of these! Month long goals are a great idea – I think I might give that a try. Thanks for the inspiration, Katie! 🙂
What’s pickleball?
I love you chuuuuunk!
PS: what the heck is pickleball?
Now that’s my kind of resolution list! Such a great idea…not one for even getting around to making resolutions, this year it seems like a big deal because my h-band and I actually did…may need to head back to the drawing board and drum up some monthly additions just to keep it fun & fresh!
Goonies! Got that for my husband for Christmas last year.. Holla!
Um, my resolution is to be less fat. But yours are way more fun… 🙂
xo
Katie, I L-O-V-E this idea!! All the months have something great. I think I might give the no soda month and not spending money one a try.
Good luck with July! Can’t wait to read about that one!
Sounds like a plan… I’m doing the same thing this year but resolutionizing (is that a word?) to one week at a time. My goal is to exercise at least 4 times a week. If I look at the big picture, well, I want even make it one day.
Good luck!!!!
Goonies! I like your May resolution. I got a modern angled bob hair cut a few years back and bragged that I didn’t get a hair cut, I got a “hair STYLE”.
My New Year’s resolution is to get to know Jesus a little better.
I think it says “scary”.
Katie, you Goonie!!! Love this idea 🙂 I might as well do a month-to-month list since I have like 6 goals for the year. I’m pretty flawed.
That’s so funny cause two years ago I tried memorizing the book of James as well and got through 2.5 chapters but you know what those chapters comes back to me all the time!!! This year my resolutions are more practical and less daunting with a new one each month. Good luck with the list!
Ah goonies. I do love that movie. And now one should truffle shuffle 😉
LOVE IT! Especially the love letters and no soda november =) so many wonderful goals/resolutions =)
good luck and have fun!
what a great idea. Much more doable than “I wont do this and that for one whole year”. Except No Soda Month makes me nervous…and its not even me attempting it!!! I DEFINITELY could benefit from trying that!
I didn’t make any (too lazy, it would appear), but I am loving yours!
Very fun list, Katie.
I especially am interested in July’s resolution. No fun money… or no money at all? I think for starters I should try to go a week without spending money, or even 1/2 a week. It would be quite challenging.
Let us know how you do!
I can’t wait to hear about July! I love blog posts about budgeting and finances.
I’m not making resolutions but life changes. :P…. Drink more water, exercise harder, keep writing posts for my blog that my husband predicted would only last 2 weeks…I think I’m on 3….I’m already overachieving. 😛
There are no words for how much I love the Goonies! And, even if you don’t succeed on your resolutions, at least they looked adorable… which is more than the rest of us can say! Good luck. 🙂
I. LOVE. THIS.
I am super interested in knowing more about January and July. What constitutes scary? Facing a fear? And no spending any money. Like ANY? Like buy out the grocery stores and pre pay bills to eat and have electricity in July OR just not shop any at goodwill?
I think the hubs and I should make one of these fun lists.
What a great twist on the typical resolutions being made.
Good Luck!

Sounds like fun! Can’t wait for you to blog about each one! Happy 2011!
i love those so much more than things you “aren’t” going to do! What a better way to live – by adding in fun & different things to life!
And a party dress – I’m all about a party dress!! Something vintage from the GW!?!?! 😉
How fun! Such a great idea!

Awesome idea!
You’re a girl after my own heart. LOL Very cute idea!
I’m not a big fan of resolutions, but I really like the idea of a monthly goal. A month seems like so much less time for me to screw something up.
I’m also on the “what’s pickleball” bandwagon. Anything involving pickles sounds like it’d be fun, though.
the hardest part is putting them out there… you put them out for the world to see, i have never had the courage to even write them in secret.. and i am 40. but this year more than any other i want to write them. and i like the idea of one for each month.
thanks for sharing.
Dying to hear how you plan on attacking July’s goal!
My resolution was to start a scrapbooking blog in hopes of creating an online portfolio and getting published in a national magazine sometime in 2011. So far, I started the blog… (www.themustardseed.typepad.com), HA! So, we’ll see what happens next. 🙂
Love this idea! I’m with you on this girl, I get lost on year round resolutions.
I love the “write 30 love letters” in February. That’s a little bit more than one a day! 😉 30 just on your own, or 15 from you and 15 from Jeremy?
Also, no spending money for an entire month? This can’t include groceries, bills, etc, can it?
That is such a great idea! I want to wear a party dress too! I currently have zero dresses in my wardrobe 🙁 Could never fit into to my old dresses after I had my first born (4 years ago!), got rid of them all and haven’t replaced them. I think it’s time. 🙂
Hey there Katie!
I must say the monthly resolutions is a rather novel idea. That way you remember each month that you have a task instead of creating some crazy goal that you completely forget you made by the end of the year.
Thanks for the great idea!
I’d love for you to visit my site sometime if you get the chance.
Have a good night!
I remember pickleball. We played it in high school when it was raining Good choice!
AHHH I JUST REALIZED THAT. what a silly font.
That’s a really great idea. I never thought of making a goal for each month. I think I might do this….
I did NO-vember in 2010 – no red bull for the month of November. They say it takes 21 days to make or break a habit – it really worked! Now i have a red bull every now and then (<3 in the last month) rather than 1 – 2 every day.
My kidneys say thank you 🙂
I like this idea. Maybe I’ll try that next year. For the past three years I’ve made two “Mommy” goals, two “Wife” goals and two “Homemaker” goals. Since these are my three “jobs” I figured it would be easier to focus on two goals for each category for the year. It gives me direction on what things I want to grow in for the New Year.
For 2011 my big Wife and Mommy goal is to pray for my hubby and children 365 days. So far so good! 🙂
The Goonies is one of the best movies ever. Slick Shoes!!!
Monthly resolutions are such a great idea! I haven’t come up with any resolutions but this post kinda makes me want to.
Goonies fo sho. I am from Oregon so that movie holds a special place in my heart because it was filmed here. I had a hang out night for my 6th grade girls from youth group and had them watch that movie. None of them had even heard of it!
I love your August resolution because it reminds me of my husband, mostly because I don’t think he has ever finished a book in his life.
monthly resolutions are brilliant! so much more attainable!
As someone who struggles with yearly resolutions too, I really like the monthly idea. I think I might steal it!
Katie – you are awesome! You never fail to crack me up. And I love the monthly goal ideas…
I would also be remiss if I didn’t say I knew it was the Goonies before I decided to comment, who knew there was so many Goonies lovers out there! Rock on girls!
I’m setting booty traps.
You mean booby traps?
THATS WHAT I SAID! BOOBY TRAPS!
K
So true! Resolutions can be overwhelming if you make a whole list to achieve over the year. Love how you broke them into months so that you could accomplish things. And I especially love how FUN some of them are! Looking forward to reading about no-spend month!
Love the month by month idea! It might be a way for me to actually keep a resolution!
These are all wonderful! Love the idea of going towards monthly goals! Sweetness!
xoxo,
Jen
I thought this was such a good idea at the time but wasn’t ready to jump in and try it myself. Now I have my list ready for 2012, which includes some of the ones you listed, so thank you for the inspiration!
