Even though the recent baby shower dinner party wasn’t for me, I did reap some benefits…specifically the thrill of some flower power. And because I can’t ignore the obvious cheesiness…yes, the title of this post should have been BOWER POWER FLOWER POWER HOUR…aren’t you glad I didn’t subject you to that?!?!
Anyhoo…You may remember the centerpiece that we created for the dinner table….
It was a few dozen roses tucked loosely inside a trifle bowl. But after a couple of days, it became time to refresh the water and recut the ends of the stems to keep those beauties looking perkier than one of those GLEE gals. However after I trimmed the roses, they were a little too short for the glass bowl. So I searched out an alternative container for those pink flowers.
And the only one that I could find that was big enough to hold 18 roses without being too deep was a teapot that my mother gave me as a bridal shower gift. I love teapots. Short and stout. I love em so much I even have a little curio cabinet in the dining room dedicated to showing them my little collection. And tucking the flowers into the country-inspired teapot was perfect for pulling some charm onto my charmless stovetop.
But what really got me going was the fact that flowers can be tucked just about anywhere. Teapots are not the most creative pot for blooms in the world.
So let’s put it out there…what is the most creative flower container that you have ever seen? Was it something you saw at a wedding or a bridal shower? Or maybe it was a branch with holes bored out for the blooms? Or maybe it was something homemade like a felt coozie for a mini bud vase? Whatever the flower-holding-contraption…pollenate us with your favorite. That sounded a little dirty, didn’t it? 🙂

I was in a wedding where the flowers were put into vintage tea pots that the bride’s mother had been collecting for years. When the wedding was over, we stayed to help her clean up and she gave all of the bridesmaids one of the teapots.

teacups are my favourite.
I saw a vintage cowboot boot holding lilies in a magazine once. It was a tall vase placed inside the boot.
I am in love with flower frogs. I have amassed quite the collection in mere weeks

I have seen Wellington boots used as flower pots! Very cute and creative!

I love your hutch where you keep your pretty china–We need something small like that to keep the few nice things we got for our wedding. Can I ask– where did you get it?

I recently went to a monogram-themed wedding shower and the hostess used her babies’ monogrammed silver/pewter cups as bud vases. I loved the idea so much, I used my brothers’ and my baby cup at a shower that my family hosted. I also used my mom’s silver mint julep cups, filled with hydrangeas from her backyard! Really simple, but really pretty!

Is it weird that I love everything decorating thing you do?? Beautiful flowers and curio!

One of the most creative ways I’ve seen of displaying flowers is a flower chandelier from a wedding in Austin.

I really like flowers in watering cans, or when the pots are hidden in seagrass baskets on the floor. I’ve never done either but they look pretty 🙂

It’s not fancy, or even pretty really, but my boyfriend in college (now my fiance) loves to give me flowers, which I am totally fine with, but back in the day I didn’t have a nice vase (or even a cheap one) in my college dorm, so I always used my Nalgene bottle. It just became my signature vase, and the flowers did look pretty in the colored plastic! 🙂

We’re having an event at work on Friday and I’m decorating the food table with mismatched teacups and saucers with flowers in the teacups…might have to add flowers to the teapots too!

At my wedding we had a sit down dinner for 175 folks so that ment a lot of tables so all the ladies of my family let me use all their silver containers, vases, etc. My cousin in a florist so she worked her magic and it ment so much to have all that love and history there with us.

I recently went to an event that was a tea party theme. Each table had a centerpiece of beautiful short bouquets like you have in both teapots and also teacups and mugs!
I personally save any glass bottles and jars to find other uses for. I love putting flowers in those. I also have two beautiful glass sconces on my wall framing a beautiful landscape portrait in my house. I switch out what’s in them from time to time- fresh flowers in water from my yard, sand and shells, candles, river rocks, anything pretty.

For my son’s baptism I bought cheap baby bottles at the grocery store in solid colors (blue and green), cut the tip of the nipple off and stuck a gerbera daisy in each one. I lined them up on the window sill and the table for fun, cheap impact.

Just last week, I used one of those plastic medicine measuring cups that come on the top of meds to hold a small bud 🙂 Not pretty, but it held the much needed water to keep that puppy..er… flower happy!

I’m not sure if I saw this on another blog or in a magazine, but take different sized cans (like green bean cans)with the labels removed and place flowers in those. You can tie/glue colored ribbon around them to help go with whatever theme you are doing. And not to mention it is cheap!

For weddings, I love when ppl use the Bass mason jars.

Those roses look SO beautiful in that teapot! Where is it from? I love teapots, too! I have 2 white ones and 1 little black one. I’m definitely on my way to a nice little collection 🙂

Hi Natalie,
My mom got the teapot at TJMaxx. I believe that she also got three different versions…I got one, my sister got the other, and my mom kept the last 🙂

Being the home of the Kentucky Derby, silver mint julep cups are one of my favorite ways to display flowers!

I love the tea pot idea!
I like to put flowers in a silver biscuit box. First I put them in an old plastic yogurt container and then place the container inside the box.
My mom also makes cute arrangements by taking shallow bowls and just floating the flowers. It’s so simple, but very elegant.

My mom loves to garden, so for her 50th birthday lunch (with sisters and close girl friends)I made the most amazing (if I do say so myself) garden themed arrangements! I bought large vegetable cans (think over sized cans of hominy bean cans)emptied them, soaked off the labels and hot glued fresh asparagus around them. I wrapped a few ribbons (layered) around them, secured the ribbon seam with a fake pansy bloom and filled them with fresh blooms from trader joes and whole foods (all wild flower-like blooms). They were such a hit! And who would have known that asparagus wrapped cans would have created the most beautiful centerpieces. And…large hominy cans, along with the asparagus (cause I needed a ton for 3 cans) were all available at the local dollar store! My best friend is the creative cat behind the idea!
And last night, with your inspiration, I rehabbed a what was left of a large florist designed display into a cute ice bucket!

Random question: do you call hubby your boyfriend in real life as well? I am asking with respect, not being rude.
Thanks for your last reply to me about the accent wall. It is lovely.
allbowerpower says
Joanne,
Actually I do sometimes call Jeremy my boyfriend in real life too. That’s his label in my cell phone and if I am talking to people I know, I often refer to him as my boyfriend. If it’s someone I don’t know, I sometimes call him my husband just so they don’t get too confused 🙂
