I got to celebrate my birthday twice this year. This makes me practically a celebutante, doesn’t it?
Just call me K-bo for short. Next I can wreck our new car while trying to get an In-N-Out burger or pull a publicity stunt which requires me to not admit my relationship with my spouse to a gossip mag. That’s a joke Jeremy…the wrecked car part. Please don’t take away my driving privileges.
Anyhoo…back to the birthday.
Birthday Party #1 took place at my parents house.
We rocked out a Krispy Kreme donut cake…which of course disappeared within moments. And when I say moments, I mean 1.7 seconds.
And my dear boyfriend gave me the best gift:
Yup. We went with the Vaio (and all you Macs just died a million deaths and cursed me under your breath). Thanks a bunch for all your input – your comments to the earlier post about our computer debacle really challenged us to take a good hard look at those Macs. But when it came down to it – the Sony won out…mostly because I wouldn’t be able to blog for like a month while I tried to learn how to use a Mac. Trust me…I am borderline computer-illiterate.
But this PC really does fit all my checklist items perfectly…and I got the top-of-the-line virus protection…his name is Dad. And he owns a software company that employs computer geniuses. Basically, I have spent the last few weeks learning Microsoft 7 and organizing all my photos. I have also copied ALL my photos onto an external hard-drive (thanks for the reminder you guys about this important backup!)
So that was birthday #1.
Now onto birthday #2.
We got the party started by hosting a little dinner get-together at Macaroni Grill with some family & friends. Then we went home for Carvel ice cream cake. I love LOVE lurve Carvel. with extra crunchies. Try it sometime…it’s divine. Tell em K-bo sent ya.
Then we got to the pressies.
I’ve said it before…and I will say it again. I LOVE PRESENTS.
Presents makes me feel the love…it’s practically palpable. I could reach out and touch the love. I could coddle it and stroke it. I could wrap it up in a blankie and carry it around and brag about it with a bumper sticker that says “PEOPLE LOVE ME SO MUCH THEY GAVE ME SOMETHING THAT COST THEM MONEY”. seriously.
Call it my love language. Call it greed. Call it whatever you like…just know it’s part of me. And so of course, birthdays are thoroughly enjoyable.
First – my mom gave me a shirt, a yummy smelling candle and…
…a trifle bowl that I have already put to good use as a rose vase for my friend’s baby shower.
Isn’t it purty?
A friend, Dee gave me some boob stuff. Which of course is really funny to think about. And completely shows how immature I am. But I love it anyway…yes, it’s just the fact that I can say I got boob-stuff for my birthday.
My dear in-laws gave me some money (which promptly got put into the baby fund) as well as some little baby items. My grandparents sent me more money (Thanks Mummum & Pappap!) and it probably will go towards a Will related item. I received a gift-card to Bone Fish (an expensive restaurant) from my co-workers…which we decided to save for our anniversary dinner when October comes around.
And lastly, I got some cute cleaning gear from my friends Brook (& Kent) as well as some pink West Elm napkin rings & a home-made certificate for a custom piece of nursery art. You see, Brook is an amazing artist…and I can’t wait to commission her to paint something unique and personal for our little boy’s room. Maybe something owl-ish…maybe 🙂
So that’s some of the fine stuff I scored as I celebrated my 29th. Oh – and Jeremy got me two more things off my wish-list too…a melon baller and an egg-slicer…you gotta love a man who can actually find those things in a Bed Bath & Beyond. What a boyfriend he is! But that’s enough about me and my man…tell me, what was your all-time favorite birthday present? Maybe it cost a little or a lot, or maybe it was a special trip or a poem written by a five-year-old or perhaps it was as simple as a compliment from your boss? Whatever the b-day gift, tell K-bo. It’ll be like virtual birthday party #3 🙂
K (BarkingBabyMama) says
Happy virtual birthday party! 🙂
Oh K-bo, I wish we lived in the same city so we could be friends. You are so fun. (I don’t care if that makes me sound a lil crazy.)
Anyway, my best birthday present was when my boyfriend proposed on my birthday – definitely my highest grossing birthday ever 🙂
Victoria says
Ok, first, Happy Birthday K-Lo. Second, check out my blog to see how we watched Valentine’s Day with the stars..no joke. Third, I don’t think I can remember a certain special gift..except the gift of love. 🙂 Ok, seriously, I just love taking trips for my b-day..like to San Antonio. I lurve San Antonio! 🙂 I’ll probably name my future son San Antonio.
Liz says
Your love tank is full! I hate getting gifts (I return almost all of them) but I love love love to give gifts.
Angelica says
Maybe I need to start making wish-lists – This is a fantastic haul! After the laptop, the trifle bowl is my favourite. Your post inspired me to write my own post about presents 😉 I’d have to say my all time favourite birthday gift would have to be a silver cuff bracelet from my aunt/godmother that I wear everyday. Happy birthday!
Cassie @ the Ringls says
We have a VAIO and really like it, so have fun 🙂
Birthday-Reviews are fun!! Congrats on the great gifts and delicious grub!
MrsW @ house233.wordpress.com says
I turned 25 on the 9th and one of the things my husband got me was an AeroPress coffee maker. As a true blue, real deal coffee addict, I can say that this little baby makes the best coffee I have ever had. Ever. Every morning that I make myself coffee with it is like my birthday all over again. Love it.
PS: You are an adorable mommy-to-be!
Amber says
Happy Birthday!!! You really made out!
I learned a lesson a hard way, so I want to spare you from having to learn the same lesson the hard way. Don’t sleep wearing the lily padz. The milk has nowhere to go and can cause a clogged milk duct which is extremely painful! Lily Padz are fabulous otherwise!
Jen says
I totally understand your love of gifts – I’m a gift person too! I love giving them, and love receiving them 🙂 Big or small, I love ’em.
I often forget what I get for my birthday because it’s so close to Christmas and it all blends together. But when I was younger, one of my favorite gifts I received was a bookshelf. I was SUCH a book nerd!
Joe says
I thought we were the only ones who did the Krispy Kreme birthday cake! We started that for my now-7-year-old a couple of years ago because she doesn’t really like cake. Darn, now I want a donut.
Heather @ Brown Brick House says
I LOVE Carvel cakes. We always got them for every birthday. With a extra little container full of extra crunchies. =D
Tracy says
My boyfriend researched Amazon dot com and found me a bunch of really great cupcake books! I am taking a cake class starting next week, and he wanted to give me some inspiration. Or maybe he just wanted me to make something he could eat! Either way it was really sweet of him!
Keeley says
Sounds like a great bday! I love Krispy Kreme, but I think they went bankrupt up North, because they are all gone. I also LOVE Carvel ice cream cakes, and the crunchies are the best part. Enjoy that new PC. My favorite present ever was the iPod that I (finally) got from my mom and hubby for my 29th birthday. I still love that thing. So basic, but it changed my workouts and my commute. Now I have my own soundtrack!
Krys says
#1 – thanks for the link back to your computer debacle – I’m in the midst of my own so I’ll be looking to see what was recommended…
and more importantly…
#2 – my best b’day present? There were two, and surprisingly both were from my then-boyfriend-now-husband BEFORE we got married: some amethyst jewelry one year (my favorite stone next to diamonds – and my diamond obsession didn’t start until I got my engagement ring!) and a trip to Florida. OOOH, and my Keurig coffee machine this past b’day! Love it!
Lisa @ lists in my pocket says
Good choice on the Krispy Kremes and Carvel cakes! My mouth is watering. Coldstone cakes are also amazing, and not at all bad for you. 😉
I can’t remember my favorite gift, there have been lots! The first would probably be when my hubby (then-boyfriend) drove from Oklahoma to MD to see me. The second would be a spa day – massage, facial, pedicure, etc. The last would be my new camera, which I bought with birthday money this year.
Laura A says
Oh thank goodness you got your computer; I was really starting to sweat it! Glad you had a wonderful birthday, K-bo!
Danielle@Newlywed Paradise says
Luck out!

Your friend, Dee, knows the good stuff. Those Lily Padz are genius. And don’t be afraid or weirded out to be really liberal with the Lansinoh after every feeding for the first little while. It makes a WORLD of difference when you first start to navigate the nursing relationship. I’ve had 2 kids and it was essential with both of them. TMI? I hope not. 😛
My fave birthday gift came when I turned 21. I had to be at home for my sister’s bridal shower and was none too thrilled that this was how I was spending my birthday. What I didn’t know was that she was planning a HUGE surprise party for me later that night and had invited all my in-town friends as well as gotten in touch with all my college buddies who drove the 3 hours from school to surprise me too. Seriously, it was really cool. And I SCREAMED and almost peed myself when they all jumped out.
Lindsey says
Happy Birthday! My Birthday was this past Sunday and my hubs got me a new Canon Rebel XSI, it arrives today and I can hardly contain myself!!
Gloria says
Those Lansinoh pads are the best!!! They hold so much milk! Seriously — sometimes I take them off and they are heavy! And they are good for big-boobed woman like myself because they are thin and a little bit bigger, so you can’t see that you are wearing a nursing pad under a shirt or something. Hope you “heart” them as much as I do!
karrie says
mmm…bone fish grill. If you haven’t already, you must try their bang bang shrimp, it is soooo good!
Stephanie says
I haven’t gotten what’s sure to be a memorable birthday gift from 2010 yet, but I’m pretty excited about it both because of what it is and because of the thought my hubby put into it.
Wicked (the musical) is coming to town in April and I asked some friends if they wanted to go. I was all ready to buy the tickets when I remembered that my hubby gets emailed from the venue so I wanted to see if he’d gotten any special deals that we could use.
Turns out, he’d already bought two tickets for us and he was planning to surprise me in April.
I was very impressed with his being so thoughtful (he knew I’d like to see the show and was willing to go with me), and I appreciated that he was thinking so far ahead.
Ana says
Happy birthday, Katie! Those gloves are absolutely fabulous! Where are they from?
Sarah says
Happy Birthday!!
Ultimately, you have to be comfortable with your technology so don’t worry about all of us die hard mac fans 🙂 – whatever keeps you blogging will keep me happy.
p.s. I made a headache pillow the other day and love it. Thanks for the great idea!!
Rachelle says
I have the same trifle bowl! I got mine for Christmas from the in laws. I love it. So pretty.
Girl, you scored big time. *Highfive*
Happy Birthday!
Rachelle
Hillary says
I am so happy that you had a wonderful B-day!! And YUMMM to that krispy Kreme “cake”. I am in withdrawal ever since they closed all their locations around here… sometimes I contemplate driving the few hours just to taste one of their HOT yummy donuts…. sigh
kburbs says
So I am definitely with you about the presents!! I love any kind of presents!!! seriously, just a note makes me super excited!! I just love getting them. In fact one time I meant to tell my mom that it was my love language but instead I told her it was my spiritual gift! ha she then busted out laughing and quickly corrected me.
Jaye says
Birthdays are the best! Welcome to the Vaio club!
Chelsea says
My favorite birthday gift was actually a combined birthday/graduation gift. I got to spend my 22nd birthday on a cruise with Chris. We woke up in St. Thomas on my birthday and spent the day roaming the island and swimming in the most beautiful water, then we had a delicious dinner!
D says
My favorite gift has to be a vase that my boyfriend got me years ago. I think the flowers were suppose to be the actual gift but I became obsessed with vase 🙂
It’s a shabby chic, white, porcelain vase.
I’ve attached sentimental feelings to a vase…once during a move I thought it was lost, and I cried.
Kermiefrg says
Your donut cake is great! What a cool idea! BTW, I’m in love with the pretty cleaning gloves…I have 3 pairs!
Suzanne says
Hey K-Bo…Great goodies you got! Those gloves might actually make me enjoy cleaning a toilet!
So my birthday was the 7th…I haven’t gotten around to blogging about it yet, but the hubs surprised me with a 10 day cruise, already booked and paid for (obviously, he’s the bill payor in our family!). We leave in 2 weeks…amazing!

Happy Bday!! Looks like it was a great one! Mine is also in February! Ok, so my fav bday present was a really long time ago. Like when I was 5. Do you remember the doll “Little Miss make up”? OMG. She was awesome! You could use ice to put special make up on her. Too bad I don’t have her to pass on to my kids one day! Have a happy bday month!
sandy says
Happy birthday! There are two birthday gifts that stick out in my mind for some reason – (1) when I turned 17 a dear friend (who happened to be a boy) delivered 17 red roses to my house, (2) when I turned 19 my friends planned a suprise birthday dinner for me and my best friend flew in for the weekend.
I think these birthday gifts stand out in my mind b/c they were totally unexpected.
Katie Caruso says
My birthday was this past Friday, and up here in the northeast, I got to celebrate by having a 6 day vacation (the university I work at was closed because of the snow!) and not only did my husband take me to NYC for the weekend, but also got me a hand sander to get started on some furniture renovation projects that I have been planning for a while (and he was sweet and said we could spend time together while working on them). I never thought I would be so thrilled to get a tool for my birthday!
Mrs. McB says
Great presents! What wonderful friends and family. I must be honest. I was thinking back through my birthdays and I can barely remember what I got this past year–much less in the past. 🙂
Nichole says
Last year I got diamond earrings. I love em and I wear em everyday!
PS I’m an April Fool’s baby. 🙂

My best gift ever?
I got to meet all 5 of the New Kids on the Block and attend a concert..3 rows back. It was for my 30th so it was a perfect girls night out and fulfilled the 10 year old me’s fantasy. I love my husband always, but this gift pushed that love just a little higher!!
Happy Belated Birthday!

I have not a clue. I will ask Brook about it and get back to ya, kay?

I think you must be the funniest girl I have never met. Way funny!
Shelley @ Green Eggs & Hamlet says
I totally agree with you about presents! I love making people feel special with gifts and I feel special when they gift me with something. It’s the best.
Awesome computer – great job Jeremy! Long live PCs. Now I won’t feel like I am the only person in the blog world who operates on a PC.
Jennifer says
Happy Birthday K-bo!! Great job on the gifts, BF.

My favorite birthday gift of all time was being in Ireland for my 20th birthday. I was studying abroad for the semester. My classmates and I got dressed up (as dressed up could be for a bunch of poor college students abroad) and went dancing and listening to Irish music in the pubs. It was a dream come true.
By the way, I have about a third of a Carvel ice cream cake in my freezer right now, leftover from my hubby’s birthday on Saturday. I have tried to be really good and not eat it all at once….it’s hard. Totally share your love for Carvel K-bo!
la petite figue says
Happy birthday! You look radiant. 🙂
Last year, my boyfriend gave me the Brideshead Revisited Blu-Ray set. It wasn’t terribly expensive, but it WAS super romantic of him, because he not only gave it to me but also watched it with me, in its entirety. This was a big deal. My masculine man, with a penchant for Call of Duty marathons, willingly watched a 13-hour BBC miniseries based on a classic English novel (my favorite). I think he even enjoyed it! I know I did.
Kate@ That's What Living is to Me says
So jealous of the Krispy Kreme “kake”. The donuts are like little pillows of heaven coated in glaze. Mmmmmm…

“and all you Macs just died a million deaths and cursed me under your breat”…*sigh*…so true! But you redeemed yourself with the Carvel ice cream cake, mmm delicious!
What fun gifts ~ I have the same trifle bowl and use it for all sorts of things {fill it with candles, faux apples, seashells & starfish, Christmas ornaments…oh and a trifle}.
My fav gift ever was when, on my 22nd birthday, my then-boyfriend {now husband} gave me my first digital camera and told me he loved me for the first time 🙂
Glad your birthday was so great! Happy first 29th birthday to you! 😉
Lindsay @ Lost in Tarnation says
Oooh You’re going to LOVE LilyPadz! They were my lifesaver after both of my pregnancies!

Happy belated Birthday!!
The best gift that I have received (physical gift that is) is the Kindle that my now-husband gave to me for my master’s graduation. He is NOT a reader but he understands how much I treasure stories and books and the time I get to spend with them. He even planned out the gift so I would have enough time to get books onto it before our honeymoon. We may not always have the same interests but he understands mine! Love him!
FRECKLES CHICK says
Happy Birthday, beautiful mama!
I must say, this is way better than an In-N-Out debacle.
amorvidabravo says
Okay Katie Bower, I think it’s official that I am “bird stalking” you. I just had to share this wedding
with such beautiful birdy touches. The bird cage on the console table seems to be very close to your Goodwill find. Con Amor, Claudia

A bread maker! You would love it! He got it on craigslist too! Which made it even more cool (they can get expensive.) I’ve got a loaf in right now.

I noticed a tube of Lansinoh in one of the pictures. Not only is it great during breastfeeding but it is an awesome lip balm/gloss as well…makes your lips extra shiney!
