Did I ever mention that we are Steeler fans?
Ya know the Steelers…as in the awesomest member of the North Division of the American Football Conference in the National Football League located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania?
Because we are.
Big ones.
Big fat black & goldies.
Last year, when they were playing in the Superbowl XLIII, my parents hosted a little party. Quite possibly I could have screamed repeatedly “KILL THEM” in front of my parents church friends…and I quite possibly hit my boyfriend in the face with my terrible towel…repeatedly….and quite possibly there was two big screen televisions set up for the event…
And quite possibly, we are cheesy enough to take family photos while proudly standing in front of two televisions…
Yes. That’s all a possibility.
But the sure-fire-without-a-doubt-thing about us is that we are fans. In fact, I even converted Jeremy. You see, it’s in my blood. My parents were born & raised & fell in love in a little town south of Pittsburgh. My grandparents still live there in fact. My Pappap sometimes doesn’t remember my boyfriend’s first (or last) name but he can spell “Roethlisberger” with perfection.
But the funny thing is, my dear Pappap hasn’t ever been to a game to see them play. That all changed in November. My Uncle (who works for the Steelers) got us tickets to go see the Steelers play the Bengals. My dad, my boyfriend & I drove up and piled into my dad’s truck with my Uncle & my Pappap.
I got the front seat because of my current ‘condition’. But I think that the boys didn’t mind…afterall, they were going to a game.
I was so excited that I started taking pictures of everything…including the Liberty Tunnels.
Let’s not ask why. It’s just a weird thing I do whenever I get excited.
And after a quick walk, I caught a glimpse of the beautiful stadium.
It was amazing. Like for a moment…I forgot all about bacon & my boyfriend…and just drooled.
It was THAT amazing.
We stopped for the required Heinz Field photo.
And we got our group shot in the stands.
But really what I wanted to show you was this:
My dear Pappap had this look on his face for the entire time.
It was a look of bewilderment. of shock. of awe.
And it was because of this:
and this:
It was because of the sheer number of people there. All cheering. All encouraging. All part of a Steeler Nation.
The sound, the sights, the sole purpose of what brought these thousands of people together. I must admit it took my breath away too. It kinda reminded me of what heaven is gonna be like. Seriously.
My favorite part besides seeing my Pappap’s face was seeing this:
That’s right. It was Troy.
As in Troy Polamalu.
As in the Tazmanian Devil. As in the Flying Hawaiian. As in the Samoan Headhunter.
We heart Troy with all our hearts.
He’s our favorite Steeler. Here’s why we heart him. And now I officially have another wishlist item:
Troy…if you are reading this, you can be our friend anytime. We love your commercials. And also, Jeremy would like a lock of your hair. I would settle for just brushing it 🙂
So anyone else out there a member of Steeler Nation? Or maybe you are a fan of a different team? Let’s see what colors you peeps sport come football season…and…in the spirit of the upcoming Superbowl…who are thinking is gonna play in the big game?…Colts, Jets, Vikings, Saints? Personally I’d like to see the Colts play the Vikings. There is just something about Peyton & Favre…they aren’t Troy, mind you…but I think that Jeremy would consider trading me for a cell number. I can’t say I blame him 🙂
Shelley @ Green Eggs & Hamlet says
KB, while I respect you being a Steelers fan I certainly cannot support you. You see, just as you converted Jeremy to be a Pittsburgh fan, my boyfriend has converted me to be a Bengals fan. Therefore, although I never thought I’d say this, we are arch enemies (oh my, it was hard for me to type that – I only mean in matters of the NFL!). I do love, love Troy Palamalu, though. And, you know that he and Carson Palmer (QB for the Bengals) were college roommates at USC. So maybe there is hope for us after all…
Natalie says
haha! Two of our best friends are from Pittsburg and they recently educated us on the “Terrible Towel”. You Steelers fans are nuts! Have you ever noticed how MASSIVE Casey Hampton is? He must have been a sumo wrestler in another life…
Natalie says
P.S. The Giants are my favorite team…*hangs head in shame*
Maria.M says
Katie Bower,
I love your blog! And you are so funny!
I don’t really watch Ameican football, but I am a huugeeee fan of my hometown team, the Calgary Stampeders (I’m from Canada) and they play in the Canadian Football League, which is like our version of the NFL.
Last year, they won the Grey Cup, the Canadian championship which is pretty much as big as it gets for a football team up here!
I think they are pretty tough guys for being able to play in below-zero temperatures ( and snow) for most of their season. And most of them are pretty good-looking too!

Don’t write me off yet Shelley. You still have a chance to come from the dark side 🙂 We Steelers are nothing if not accepting folk 🙂

Crazy to see all those pics of Pittsburgh on your site. I drive through the Liberty Tunnels and by the stadium everyday on my way to work. I’m glad you enjoyed yourself in da ‘Burgh. You’ll be sad to learn that I don’t cheer for the black ‘n gold. It’s not anything against the Steelers, but I just don’t like football in general. I consider Steelers Sundays prime shopping time; all the stores are empty!
Stacy says
I’ve been a Steelers fan since…well…conception, I guess. My dad is a HUGE Steelers fan and I kind of inherited it. One of my favorite memories was attending a game with him in Pittsburgh the year after I graduated high school (we’re from Louisiana, so it was quite a trip for us). Haven’t managed to convince the hubby to convert yet though…maybe because I’ve said several times that I would leave him for Troy? Hmm…you wouldn’t think he’d get cranky about a little thing like that. ;o)
Although I must admit that my allegiance has wavered a bit this year, as I’ve been cheering the Saints on pretty heavily. Because I mean, hello? It’s the SAINTS. The NEW ORLEANS SAINTS. Like thisfreakinclose to making the Super Bowl. Surely a sign of the impending apocalypse.
Kim says
I am not a Steelers fan, more of a Seahawks for Darryl Tapp, but I do appreciate Troy. He was just on 60 minutes last weekend and he seems great. He is from a small island out in the pacific that has a huge amount of NFL players. It’s crazy, so if you get a chance catch the show!!
Kristin says
I am not a Steelers fan most Sundays, but I do LOOOOOVE me some Max Starks. We went to college together (GOOOO GATORS), and I just love that kid. He is as fantastic as they come, and he’s a beast!
Krista D. says
Katie, you are my sista from anotha motha from down unda (under the mason dixon, that is). We’re both moms, we both love little white birdies, and we’re both in love with the black and gold. Being born and raised in PA, makes you either an Eagles fan or a Steelers fan. The cool people are Steelers fans, of course. I have no explaination for my brother (The dork is an Eagles fan. I love him, but seriously??). I wish I could post pics in here, because if I could, I’d send you one of my daughter in her Steelers sleeper at around 8 months old (my son then wore it too!). You raise Will up right!
Christina says
Sorry- Go Brownies! Remember when we beat you this year? thats right, the defending champions lost to the worst team in the league! We may stink but beating the Steelers is like winning the superbowl! Here we go brownies, here we go!
nkp says
I knew I loved you for some reason! As a born and bred Pittsburgher, I appreciate your love for the ol’ black and gold. P.S. I had my wedding reception at PNC Park, next to Heinz Field because we love our sports teams so much.
Carmen says
Love it, can totally identify with that. We are die hard Packer Fans, but the Packers have a following with the numbers and intensity of love similar to the Steelers. I totally get it. I might have actually shed a tear once or twice when I stepped on the hallowed grounds of the frozen tundra, otherwise known as Lambeau Field. Our children have been outfitted in Green and Gold from the moment of birth. My seven year old can identify all the players. It’s a beautiful thing.
We here in Packer nation are just a wee bit bitter about the whole Brett Favre going to our most hated rival thing, so any team that whoops their booties is fine with us. Personally, I’d love to see Payton get another ring.
Jeannette says
I am right there with ya hoping for a Colts v. Vikings Superbowl, but I have NO IDEA who I would root for in that game! They are just so evenly matched, ya know? I’m a big football girl myself. I unfortunately was born and raised a Redskins fan, which has been ABSOLUTELY depressing this season! UGH! I’ve been trying out new teams to root for, but its just not the same when you don’t know the history of the team and all the players names and everything, ya know? So, hopefully the ‘skins will get their act together next season and prove to me that they are worth rooting for.
Val says
I cheer for two teams…the Saints (’bout time we were something but the Aint’s!) and anyone who is playing the Dallas Cowboys! I like to pretend that anyone who likes the Steelers likes the Saints too; our colors are too similar!
And I want to see a Saints-Colts Superbowl. But really I just want to see Jeremy Shockey. I dream of mine and Shockey’s babies having little, tiny red-headed mullets. And tattoo’d sleves from the moment they exit the womb. Ahhhh….if only. 🙂
casacaudill says
Wow, this takes me back. The husband and I went to school in Pittsburgh, met, fell in love and the rest is history. We left shortly before they built the new stadium and I’d never actually seen it in full view – thanks!
Lisa at lists in my pocket says
I can appreciate your enthusiasm and loyalty, despite the fact that us Baltimore Ravens fans hate the Steelers to our core and were openly cheering when you did not make it to the playoffs. I’m sorry. But I still like you, and think your baby will look cute in that little outfit. 🙂
Amanda says
Although the colors are less than flattering, the hubs and I are forever PHINS fans! Love them no matter how many injuries we had this season. But me, I’m a die hard Alabama crimson tide fan!!! I converted the hubs very recently. Katie I think I’d have to agree with your choices for the superbowl. I wanted to see the chargers play the Vikings, but the Jets ruined that for me!
cityhoot says
This is so funny. I went to school at Pitt, so I was in the heart of Steelers Nation for four years. It’s incredible how passionate the fans are there! I live in Boston now and every time I see someone wearing a Steelers hat, I’m tempted to say something to them but I don’t. So cool to see that you guys are fans!
`jennifer says
Go Niners!! Whoop Whoop.
Ami says
As a Steelers fan, and someone who grew up 3 seconds from them, I feel it is my duty to ask that you refer to the “proper” name of the the Liberty Tunnel – The Tubes. Hopefully you got to feed that baby some good Pittsburgh food too! 🙂
House Appeal says
I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, but since I left right after high school I have never been to Heinz Stadium! Just good old Three Rivers Stadium for me. Now I live in Packer Country and am married to a Packer fan, so basically I’ve spent my whole life surrounded by die hard football fans. I’m pregnant as well so I may have to find the cute little outfit you have posted and surprise my husband with it 🙂
Shannon says
HERE WE GO STEELERS HERE WE GO!
I noticed some Steelers paraphernalia in your Christmas presents post and I’m so glad to hear you are fans! Hope you enjoyed your time here in da burgh! Heinz Field and PNC Park are both amazing stadiums and I’ve spent many hours in traffic in the Liberty tubes!
Are you Pittsburgh Penguins fans too??
Alicia says
Oh NO!
Oh Katie this post made me so sad! We will be enemies on Sunday 🙁
I am from Minnesota and a HUGE Vikings fan (thanks to my mama).
We’ll keep the animosity temporary, okay?
Also, I wanted to ask if you have heard of and/or are following the story of Lily the Bear! She’s a black bear here in Minnesota who JUST (today) had cubs. If you look up Lily the Black Bear on facebook, she has quite a following. You can hook into her blog and “Den Cam” from there as well. I thought you would enjoy it! It’s really beautiful!
Brenna says
Despite being born and raised in Texas (football heaven), I am also a Steelers fan due to family allegiance! My mom’s family is from Aliquippa, just outside of the ‘Burgh. But thanks to my grandma’s adorable Pittsburgh-ese accent, they’ll always be the “Stillers” to us.
And I’m calling Colts and Saints in the big game. New Orleans is the closest team geographically, and I just love Peyton.
Alicia says
Waiiiit a second. For some reason, as I was reading this post, and checking out the pictures, I had in my head “Saints” not Steelers … Vikings play the SAINTS not the STEELERS. (There is a serious lack of sleep on my end over here. Yay college!)
BUT guess what? We don’t have to be frenemies!
Kristen says
I love love love the New England Patriots. I get a lot of grief for it but I can’t help it! I think it’s mostly due to Tom Brady’s dreaminess 🙂 And I like their outfits!
Amanda L says
I grew up in a small town south of Pittsburgh and have been bleeding Black and Gold since birth. We recently moved to NC and its rough being in enemy territory. Although, I must say that you don’t see near the following and insane loyalty that people had growing up in the Pittsburgh area. I am totally jealous that you got to go to a game…that has been my dream for a very long time. Perhaps you could score some more tickets next season for a blog giveaway???
Jess says
Ok….I had every intention of coming down here, you know, to the comment section, and talking smack…lots of smack.
See, I’m from Philly…so that’s what we do. Especially with anything Pittsburgh related… since we bleed green here-not black and gold.
But then I saw one absolutely adorable “Pappap” and I couldn’t do it. Damn you and that adorable man!!!
Amy says
So, I knew that I loved you guys and your bloggy wonderfulness but kept asking myself exactly why I loved it to such extreme amounts. You- in one post- have answered my question and for that, I thank you! Go Stillers!
Kaity White says
OH NO!!! you can’t be a Steelers fan! I am a Philly girl all the way and now we can never be for-serious friends 🙁 I know, I know – can’t we all just get along? BUT in this case, the only way I can move on is to pretend like I never even read this post! GO Birds! (Although those baby clothes are so stinkin cute! My family just cannot know I said that – ever)
Kelly says
I’m a huge Colts fan!! And Peyton’s my boyfriend. Back off 😉

Katie – I LOVE YOUR BLOG so I was so sad to read that you are a Steeler’s fan…I really did not expect that! I am a Seahawk’s fan..so I think you can understand how I feel about the Steelers (I know, I know, I’m a sore loser). But you and your family are the cutest fans 🙂
I want to see the Colts and Saints in the Superbowl! I just love Peyton Manning (he is so talented, smart, articulate, humble…and I love his commercials) and I think Drew Brees is just the classiest guy ever so I really like rooting for him.
stace says
As a Pittsburgher, this makes me love your blog even more! Thanks for talking up our city and our fabulous team!
Chrysta says
I’m with Carmen on everything she said. I LOVE the Packers! I bleed Green and Gold and go to a game every year even though I don’t live in Wisconsin anymore. I do understand the intensity of the Steelers fans because Packers fans are the same way. I think Heaven looks like Lambeau Field. I will be cheering for the Vikings because our beloved Favre went over to the dark side when when he went to the Vikings. It would be as if Troy Polamalu went to the Steelers most hated rival.
Ashley says
Wow, great pictures. I’m actually from Pittsburgh (live in DC now)– I went to high school in the South Hills– Upper St. Clair to be exact.
I’m a total Steelers fan and I actually got engaged to my husband overlooking Heinz field before a Steelers/Colts game. If you look back through my archives you can see pics (November 2008).
Hooray for another steelers fan!
Sparky says
I’ve noticed Steeler stuff around your house and wondered if you’d mentioned it before I started reading your site!
I am from Pittsburgh, and of course am a Steelers Fan!
Jeannine @ Small and Chic says
Another Patriots fan here! 🙂 I went to school and lived in RI and MA during a magical time when the Pats, Sox, and Bruins were dominating their leagues. I imagine you get the same tingles at Steelers games that I do at Pats games. There’s something about all that pomp and circumstance that gets me every time.
Oh, and Teddy Bruschi is one of the nicest, loyal, genuine family men alive. The fact that he chose to play for the Pats for so long (and didn’t feel the need to have a lawyer or agent to negotiate with the front office) says a lot.
I have fallen in love with the Vikings this year, though. It’s been so exciting to see them play. I would love to see them go all the way to the Superbowl.
Natalie Pocta says
How ’bout them Cowboys? 😉
You know, we’re just proud to have won a play off game.
kari says
We aren’t NFL fans, we are college football fans. We are huge USC Trojans fans. My hubby graduated there and converted me into a huge freaking fan. That being said, we root for any NFL team that has a former Trojan on it. We love Troy as well. 🙂
Kate says
Katie … I am a member of the Steelers Nation and live in Pittsburgh!! If you are ever headed to the ‘Burgh again for a game and need a tailgate party, just let me know 🙂 Wish we were in the post season, though. Grrr. Love your blog, first time commenter! — Kate
Amy says
Oh man, I looooooooooove me some Troy! And Hines too for that matter! It really sucked not having Troy play for most of the season 🙁
Do you think its acceptable home decor to have one of those life-size Troy fatheads in my living room? 🙂
oh and my super bowl picks are the colts and saints.
Mandy says
COLTS!! : )
Grew up in Indiana and lived in Indy during their SuperBowl win, what other choice is there??! Seriously though I’m not a huge football fan but when I lived in Indy I went to church where a few of the players attended and gave personal testimonies, it was so moving to see a team of professional athletes care more about having a heart for God than $$$. Also I read both Tony Dungy books and heard him speak last year, nothing but ENORMOUS RESPECT for that man even if he is no longer the coach.

Katie,
I’ve been following your site for about 2 months now and have never commented, but this post warrants a comment! I was so surprised/excited to see your post on Pittsburgh and the Steelers! I’m in grad school in Pittsburgh, and although I’m not really a football fan, it’s exciting to live in a city that’s so dedicated to it’s sports teams (except baseball…)! It’s fun to see your connections to my new hometown, and I loved the pictures! Hope you had a great time in Pittsburgh – you should do a follow-up post on all the other great things ‘the Burgh has to offer!;)
Julianne says
Katie, I love you even more now that I know you are a part of Steeler nation! I just moved back to Pittsburgh and still experience those feelings when I see the stadium.
You are going to have the best dressed baby on the block!

Well, I certainly respect your passion, but O.M.G. I cannot stand the Steelers–especially since I hail from Ohio. I might have to break up with your blog over this…………
Nah–I’ll just skip the obnoxious Steelers posts. 🙂

I have to unsubscribe from your blog. As a Clevelander and Browns fan, we can no longer be friends.

My friend from Babione6 told me I just had to check this site out. She gave me no indication as to why and so in the spirit of our dear friendship I looked it up. Well I’m glad I did. Steel Nation lives on here in Oklahoma as well. I am a die hard, yell at the tv, never miss a game, friend converting, smack talking, jersey wearing, t-shirt sporting, terrible towel toting, forever Steeler Fan!!! And I have a feeling that when you enter heaven, you are greeted with a crowd of golden terrible towels ushering you in!
I also agree… Colts and Vikings would make a great SB

Where are all the BEARS fans??? Oh wait, we’re all quite and holed up in Chicago being sad because it’s going to be a while until we’re good again. But we’ll still be cheering them on!

Oh em gee. I never knew you were a steelers fan. This.changes.everything.

I just knew you had to be a Steelers fan!!! I’m from pgh, and loved your photos!! I missed that game, and it was probably a good thing or you would have heard a “Bower Power” chant!! So did any of the Steeler Nation recognize you? Btw your pappap is the best!

I am an adopted Eagles fan, converted to my hubby’s beloved hometown outside of Philly. I never thought I’d be a sport freak, but now I am and was thoroughly disappointed when Eagles were humiliated by the arch enemy Cowboys. Alas, I say goodbye to the SuperBowl for another year.
I like you would also very much like to see the Colts vs. Vikings in Superbowl, but would like to see the Colts take that one. Let’s see how it fans out in a few weeks.
Destine says
All I have to say is GEAUX SAINTS!!! This is our year. And we all know we’ve waited a veryyyy long time 🙂

We are definitely STEELERS fans!! Our brother-in-law is from Reading and he converted us a few years ago. We have never been to a game though..but would kill (maybe not literally, but you never know) to go to one! And Polamalu is our fave too!!! I knew I loved you for a reason other than fabulousness. 🙂
Emily says
We are die hard Packer fans too. So I totally get your devotion!
This season has been so painful because we currently live in Minnesota. Watching Favre play for the Vikings is like having to watch your boyfriend, who just dumped you, make out with his new, uglier, girlfriend right in front of you!

Growing up, my dad was a Cowboys fan. The enemy was the Pittsburgh Steelers. Of course, I had to be a fan. Now, I live in MN and live amongst the Vikings. My son called his Paw Paw on Sunday (3X!) to tell cheer on his Vikes on put down my dad’s team!

I’m cheering for a different black n gold team. My boys, THE SAINTS!!! I’m praying daily that they win this weekend. New Orleans neeeeds a Superbowl win. And the fans??? We’re the loudest and proudest anywhere. WHO DAT!?
Ps: If the Saints don’t make it to the big game, I hope Peyton Manning does, a good ol boy from NOLA can represent anyday.
Bless you boys!

Katie! I have been reading your blog for a while now, but have never commented. I couldn’t help it today though. I am a die-hard Steelers fan and your pictures made me so happy today (as we mourn the lack of playoff football, I am also stuck in Philadelphia and most of the Steelers games were blacked out around here). Anyway – thanks! Go Steelers! And way to represent with Will’s new Troy outfit!

My husband is a DIE-HARD Steelers fan. He was raised in Pittsburgh. Before I met my husband, I didn’t know a thing about football, but now I am a Steelers fan too. His family has season tickets and I have been to several games over the years. And you are right, Heinz field is an amazing stadium and Pittsburgh is an amazing city. My husband and I even got to go to the Superbowl in 2006 and watch the Steeler’s win their 5th Superbowl ring in Detroit. My husband will not MISS one single game the Steelers play, even if he has to go to a bar to watch the game by himself. See we are now in Arkansas and not all of the games are televised. But even here in Arkansas, Steeler nation is strong…I swear, Steeler fans are everywhere and I think they have the biggest and most loyal fans of any team!

Oh my word Katie, crack me up! Your Pappap is absolutely beyond adorable! I’m not even sure I should admit this out loud, but we are um, ahem, (whisper) *Bears* fans. I just felt a tingle in my toe of guilt for being ashamed, but oh well. They stink. Period. But we still love ’em! 😉 As in 2007, when they were brutally shut down in the Superbowl, my entire family looked just like yours, except in blue & orange ~ right down to Mr. Noah in his newborn Bears onesie 😉 Will’s gonna look adorable in his outfit, and I’ll still read your blog but ONLY because you’re another All-American football loving gal like me! 😉

OMG, I am soooo jealous! I freakin’ love the Steelers. My husband and I almost went to a game this year, but tickets were crazy expensive–but being a defending Super Bowl champ does that to ticket prices! That was so nice that your pappap got to go to a game! You are so funny and I love your blog. Keep it up!

Hi Katie, as if I didn’t love your blog enough but now you have to go and tell me you’re a Steelers Fan too!!! Oh how I love the Bowers even more now. 🙂 We too are a Steelers family, hence why my blog is BabySteelersFan.blogspot.com! My hubs was born & raised in The Burgh and I was lucky enough to marry into a family who loves their city and their Steelers with all their hearts. Needless to say, both our little ones have plenty of black & gold clothes to wear. 🙂 There is nothing better than watching a Steelers game with your little ones, watching them cheer on the team with just as much enthusiasm as mommy & daddy. Wow, I live about an another south of Pittsburgh. We aren’t huge Steelers fans, but the stadium is beautiful. Glad you all had a chance to go to the game. We are mostly college football fans, but love football anyways. 🙂

Here we go…
Steelers all the way. Family from the ‘Burgh. Went to school at St. Vincent and saw camp. Did you hold your breath thru the “tubes”? Game we always played as kids. And I called my grandfather Pappap too…what my son calls my dad now. Knew I liked you for a reason. Oh, and they have a “Toddler” terrible towl…yes, we have one! Add that to the list.

Go COLTS! We are mostly a Bears household living in Indy, so I will be rooting for the Colts and proudly wearing my blue jersey on game day. My husband on the other hand will be rooting for the Saints b/c he went to Purdue when Drew Brees was there. I think it’s going to be a great game!
Side note – when the Colts played the Bears in the Super Bowl a few years ago, I wore my Colts jersey instead of my Bears gear and my husband didn’t speak to me for a week when the Colts won. Apparently it was my fault. 🙂

Love the Cardinals balloon in the first two pics!! 😀 It was a great Superbowl last year… even though we lost.

It looks like we may have the same taste in home decor and thrift shopping, but not in football 🙁
Ravens, baby!
But, I’ll still read your blog 🙂
Candice says
Colts! Although, Dad is from Pittsburg so we occasionally have to share the love as well (by default though- he’s the one with the surround sound and 52 inch flat screen- LOL). 😉
Not only do we live close to Indy, but I definitely appreciate Tony Dungy (despite him not being the current coach, obviously) and his values (my 8 year old son and I once waited 4 hours in single digit temps for his book signing- good times!). Our house isn’t huge into NFL but college ball- less $$$$ motivation. Go Irish!
Debbie says
Yay, Katie! Another reason to like you. My whole family lives in Pittsburgh (except lonely me in Philly) and it is a requirement to be a Steelers fan. My husband got so much Steelers paraphanalia for his first Christmas with the family that he still hasn’t worn it all!
Jenn says
I’m speechless! I loved your blog. As long as you continue to talk about things other than football, I will continue to read. I’m a die hard Ravens fan which makes us arch enemies (during football season)
Natalie says
GO STEELERS!!!!! You and I are kindred spirits – same anniversary, same fav football team, same fav player, plus I love your site….so that’s got to count for something right?
Erica Harless says
Hi Katie! I saw this Steeler’s jacket on clearance at Target and thought you might want to snatch one up. Only $6.28!

Heck Yeah! It makes total sense that you have a bit of the Burgh in you! That is def. where you get your wit and humor!!! As a PA native and a Pitt Graduate, I am also a proud member of Steeler Nation! I live in CO now, but get to see the Steel Curtain come down every year or two when they play the Broncos. Although it lacks, nothing compares to tailgating/being in the stands at Heinz field, its nice to see Black and Gold take over Mile High!

AAAH!! I was born and raised in Pittsburgh and have the slight misfortune of working in Cincinnati…Bengals territory. I was booed on my first day teaching third grade when I announced that I was a Steeler fan. I loved seeing these pictures of my beloved town and the beloved Steelers.
WE-DEY!! (and yes, I love your blog even more now!)
Kristin M. says
KB, I love the link to Troy’s testimony! I’m a Ravens fan, and love following Ray Lewis, Ray Rice and now Michael Oher (from the Blindside!) It’s so awesome to see all of these pro athletes coming out to let the world know they are followers of Christ! Also, thanks for sharing your love for your pappap. Grandparents are totally amazing! and we should never take them for granted! they have so much wisdom and humor that we may never understand!

I’ve never gotten that into a team before.
Tiffany says
First, your pappap is adorable. Love your blog, but really the Steelers? Ugh, my least favorite fans in all of football. I’ll still read the blog, but my vision is forever tainted now. 🙂 Please post something new so this gets buried stat! 🙂

Ok, I’m not a Steelers fan but I saw these and thought of you… I promise I’m not a stalker.

Yes! I’m not the first one to admit I’m a Bears fan. Yeah, they stink. Kinda royally. But I’m not a fair-weather fan. I don’t wax and wane on teams just because they’re playing well one season and dump them the next. (Or stink one season and then stink again and again and again . . .) I remember when the Bears won the Superbowl (I was 5) and that Christmas I got the “Superbowl Shuffle” on record. My sister was SO jealous. We listened to that thing until it was scratched to all get-out.
I agree with you though about Troy. That guy is seriously awesome.
This superbowl, I’m rooting Saints. But only because I’m still (slightly) bitter about them humiliating us after our opening kickoff touchdown a few superbowls ago. And I kinda do like the Saints actually.

As a transplanted Jersey girl I was dragged into the Steeler Nation – I mean Steelers jerseys and terrible towels in church 🙂 and what exactly is the Fifth Quarter?1 Bur Thankfully I have now become a true blue fan! We just love Troy and he is as nice as can be – my friend lives in his neighborhood. Another one of our faves is Aaron Snith – his testimony is awesome too! Have you heard the Polamalu song? They played it on all the radio stations on our way to Super Bowl #6

This Bacon + Chocolate = World Peace post brought you to mind.

Oh my goodness, these are fabulous photos that make my heart melt with jealousy! Katie, I think if we didn’t live so far apart, we could be real life bff’s, for we both have a love of Steelers and Bacon, and of course decor too! Not to mention that we are both complete goofs with amazing men that gobble up our odd humor! IHeart you from afar, thanks for making me laugh on a daily basis!

Katie,
I am a little late reading this post but am SUPER excited to hear that you are a Steelers fan! I am a member of Steeler Nation too, although I live near Pittsburgh. In fact, I live south of Pittsburgh like your Pappap. Go Steelers! :o)

Katie Bower – I have been reading your blog for about a year. I think you are hilarious. I love that you love the Lord! And reading this post makes me think that we might be soul mates. (Not to be creepy or anything, of course!) My husband is from Pittsburgh and converted me from an “I only watch college football…GO HOKIES!” fan to an all out member of both Hokie Nation AND Steeler Nation! His family are seriously humongous fans (as in his mom and aunts make skirts out of terrible towels every year and sometimes paint their faces and wear wigs to the games)! It’s awesome to know that I have so much in common with my favorite blogger!

I can’t believe i am only now coming across this post! Just when I thought I couldn’t love Bower Power anymore… you go and reveal your Steelers love! I heart the Steelers too, I grew up outside of Pittsburgh and just can’t help myself.
Becky says
I too am now just seeing this post and it makes me so happy!!! I’m from Harrisburg, PA and come from a Steelers family too! We also have black & gold blood (pretty cool huh?) The picture of all the terrible towels waving gave me a serious case of the goosebumps and even brought a little tear to my eye hehe 🙂 I love Rod Woodson & Jerome Bettis but because they are no longer playing, I’d say my favorite is also Troy! Anyways, this is just further proof that no matter where you go there is bound to be a Steelers fan; we really do have a Steelers Nation!
Becky says
P.S. I converted my Floridian transplant of a husband to a Steelers fan; there was no way I was becoming a Jags fan, lol
Kendra says
I agree!! Woo-hoo!! Go Colts!!
