Here’s the monthly pregnancy update…so far, so good.
Okay…you caught me. I don’t really have much exciting stuff to update. We (the Little Baby and me) are just trucking along. To be honest, I haven’t even been to a doctor yet….not because I don’t believe doctors are important because they are – it’s simply because we went on vacation, I got paranoid that I would miscarry and wanted to wait till I was out of the danger-zone (which is stupid…I know…you don’t have to tell me) and then frankly I didn’t spend the time to find the right one. So I finally got around to doing some hard core research and we decided on one that is pretty awesome-kick-pants in the area of VBAC’s. So my first appointment is this week.
Other than that – not much to report.
Here are the symptoms so far: extreme tiredness. I had this with my pregnancy with Will but honestly, I had such a flexible schedule then, I could sleep when I needed. So this time, when the wave of tiredness hits, I have about fifteen seconds to pop in a Barney video before I am literally sleeping on the hardwood floors. Yes. I am basically a narcoleptic.
I have a crazy sense of smell…I swore there was a rotting piece of fruit in the house the other day and hunted that bad boy down. Turns out – it was coming from the garbage can in the garage. That stench wafted through the plastic Hefty sinch sac and three closed doors to get to me.
My skin has gone to Zitsville – return unknown. Thank goodness for photoshop 🙂 I have major gross-mouth from the prenatal vitamins…basically I swear someone in the house has sushi (I don’t know how Will could order raw fish without my knowledge but crazier things have happened)…but then I realized I’m just smelling my own rank breath. I guess the fish oil in the vitamins is stinky. A recent photoshoot friend (Hi Laurie!) recommended gummy prenatals from Target – so once I run out of these, I am getting those pronto.
The bump has definitely arrived. When I wake up in the morning, I feel and look fine in my regular jeans but by 4 pm, the button is getting undone…no matter where I am or who can see. Yes, I walked around Kroger the other day with them completely unbuckled. I have no shame when it comes to personal comfort. Yesterday, I made Jeremy drag up my two storage bins full of maternity clothing. Pro – my maternity clothing is CUTE! Con – last time I was pregnant during the winter 🙁 I need some shorts pronto.
No real cravings yet.
I have had only two incidents where I thought I would blow chunks…thankfully that didn’t happen. I’m not much of a thrower-upper to begin with (I didn’t even have a single feeling of barfiness with Will) so I would be really really surprised if that happened this time around. But I do get cramps…so the couch is like my best friend. Not like…is….is my best friend.
Other than that – just extremely emotional. (duh!) Basically I cry every Sunday at church. Yes, I am that girl blowing her nose and bawling my eyeliner into my mouth at the inspirational videos or right in the middle of the worship. And don’t even start with me and those dang nature shows that I let Will see. I mean – the poor penguins work so hard for their eggs and then sometimes they don’t even make it with all the coldness and the lack of food. It’s basically unbearable to see. I just really love those penguins.
Quick questions:
- When are we due? November 5th.
- Are we still gonna find out the gender? YES.
- Do we have any names yet? For a girl maybe…for a boy no. Jeremy doesn’t like mine. I don’t love his.
- Do we think we know the gender yet? I am 98% sure it’s a boy. Jeremy is still on the fence.
- Will I attempt a VBAC? Yes.
- Where will we put the baby? It will stay in our room at first and then hopefully transition to it’s own room (the current Jack room)
- Does Will understand? Maybe just a smidge. Unless I am growing a truck in there – he’s uninterested.
- Where did I get my white tshirt? It’s a nightshirt I got for a couple bucks at TJMaxx. They sell something similar at Target.
- Will I wear it in all the photos? Yes. I plan on adding some leggings when the belly gets bigger to avoid crotch-flashings.
- Did I cross many things off my pre-pregnancy bucket list? Yes! I did! See below!
- How often will I post these updates? Don’t tie me down to a schedule. I’ll just break those bonds 🙂
- Anything else you should know? Today I have completed my first trimester. Also – I love this website. I just punched in my due date and it gives me tidbits every day on the baby and pregnancy. It helps me focus on just single things to pray about – which is good for a person who gets overwhelmed by the dollar menu 🙂
Not too much difference between 5 and 10 weeks. Fun fact – I suck in big time for these photos. I thought it would be the only consistent way to keep things fair. After all, you know I can push that bad boy OUT. Exhibit A.
Also – I have not yet decided whether I’m doing the more subdued photo montage or the fun fabric backdropped one – so for now – it’s both.
Oh and in the 5 week picture – I’m holding the first pregnancy test. And yes, it does make me a little uncomfortable to know that something that has urine on it is thisclose to my face. No – it doesn’t matter if it’s my own pee. Or that it’s dried. Pee is pee people.

Katie your make up looks amazing!! I mean, all of you looks amazing, but those colors are really pretty on you. Congrats on making it through the first trimester!

You are so unbelievably gorgeous and glowing, Katie. Beautiful mama-to-be. xo

I really like that website as well. It had a great ovulation calendar too! So good, it worked for us. 🙂 Due in September. Congrats!

Aw you look great Katie. Pleaseee tell me your gonna tell us what the gender is when you find out?? 🙂

I am currently 15+1 (due October 14th) with my first and feeling it! Had Hyperemesis Gravidarum from week 6, on medication for that. Every food seems to be on my “don’t really fancy that” list except for ice poles and strawberries. I have a definite bump growing and am already in the maternity clothes! My back absolutely kills and some days I feel a little more tired than usual, but mostly I am happy and enjoying it. It’s all new to me so I have nothing to compare it to.
I hope your pregnancy goes well, and I look forward to following your journey!
P.S. hate to rain on your parade but 12+6 is actually the last day of first trimester, not 12 weeks…x
Sarah says
I’m thinking November 3 would be a good day for you to have Baby Bower 2.0 — then we could be birthday buddies! I hope you’re not feeling so overwhelmed now (and maybe even looking into finding a babysitter)! If I lived in the ATL, I would definitely be down for babysitting Will — he’s such a cutie!
Patrícia Nunes Inácio says
Hi Katie!
I’m reading you’re blog all away from Portugal. I normally don’t comment, but this time I just had to.
You can’t imagine how happy (almost trilled) I was by reading you’re post. I just couldn’t stop smiling and thinking, “Oh my God, it’s not just me!!”
It is so refreshing to realize that this crazy situations, we mother’s put ourselves into, happen more often then one might think, and suddenly I just didn’t felt so crappy about my crazy parenting days with my 2 year old daughter. Thanks for sharing!! ☺
Brooke says
BEWARE THE GUMMY VITAMINS! I know they seem all alluring, but they are horrible for you. They don’t have any iron or calcium (2 of the “big 3” for prenatals) and only half your folic acid. I remember switching to those around 16 weeks and getting so crazy tired. My MIL was the one who read the back and figured out I wasn’t getting any of my “energy” vitamins. If the fishiness is getting to you then you can try a generic prenatal with no DHa. And Flintstone vitamins actually meet that criteria! They were all I could stomach by the end. Good luck! And you look fabulous
Megan says
You’re glowing! 🙂 So fun!! If you have time, you should check out http://spunkyjunky.blogspot.com/ she does a weekly shot of the belly and it’s super cute.
Susan Atkins says
I agree with the other girls – you’s a beaut! I assume your prenatals are tablets? If you try the gummies from Target and find that you still have fishy breath/burps, try putting the gummies in the fridge/freezer to keep the smell at bay (I’m a pharmacy student – it’s what we counsel patients to do if they have a similar issue with their Fish Oil vitamins). Congrats on first-trimester success. Must be all the bacon 🙂
Sarah says
I think it’s a girl (only because I’d love to see you have both)!

I have been praying for you and baby! So glad everything is going well and you look amazing!

You look fabulous!! Hope you are able to get the rest you need this week!

I am enjoying your pregnancy/parenting post so much. I am getting married in less than a month and hoping to start a family soon after that and it is nice to hear that it isn’t all sunshine and rainbows. Not cause sunshine and rainbows wouldn’t be good but I think I will panic less after reading your blog, but probably only slightly cause I analyze everything. But thanks for taking the edge off. Some of these posts have made me laugh out loud. Thanks for being so candid
Lynn says
Oh KB…you look so beautiful. I’m so happy to read an update. Don’t give a second thought on not having been to the Dr. yet. Youve been through it once…you’re taking your yucky horse pills (I mean, prenatals)…the first 6 week appt they just go over what you already know. I LOVE that you suck it in. I did for my pictures too 🙂 Keep that little BB safe and warm.
Do you have a nick name for it yet? And did you for Will?
Lynn
Tiffany says
You look so cute! Congrats again on your little one 🙂 I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant with our first and am starting my photo journal this week! For some reason I’m convinced it’s a boy, too 🙂
What are you planning to use as a bassinet for your baby while he/she is in your room? I am SO overwhelmed with all the baby options!
Nicole says
How cute are you?!?! I as well watched Frozen Planet yesterday, and I seriously was bawling over the baby penguins. I wanted to knit them all sweaters! Penguins are seriously precious.
Kristen @ Popcorn on the Stove says
Glad the symptoms aren’t too bad this time around! Are you going to share the gender with us??
PS – I love your hair at this length!
Hilary says
Oh I hear ya on that fish oil in those things…blahhh. I’m not preggo and it makes me wanna barf, so I can only imagine. Congrats again – you look great.

I love the patterned background better. It makes you stand out more in the white dress than the plain background. Either way, you look gorgeous! Congrats for hitting trimester dos. 🙂
Heather says
Hey Katie…I’m a month behind you and feel your pain about the vitamins. Thankfully, Amazon has the same chewy ones from Target for $8 (Vitafusion which is the name brand) that they deliver for free when you do their subscribe and save…which since you know you need them every month, it is worth it to have them automatically delivered – you can always change/stop that for free. I keep them by the alarm clock and chew before getting out of bed. Life saver.

So exciting! I’m 13 weeks + 1 day. I think every website says something different as far as trimesters go. I’ve seen 12 weeks, 13 weeks, and 14 weeks. So, either way I’ll definitely be in my second trimester by next week!
Corrie says
The DHA pills were the ones that gave me have fishy breath/made me gag. I found that Target brand are plant based so no fishy grossness! But you may try looking for plant based options.
Tabitha says
You look amazing – you are glowing, and your hair looks adorable at the length it’s grown to! I love that you are documenting your pregnancy through pictures… I didn’t do it and now I regret it. I was too hung up in the fact that I felt like a beached whale and didn’t want to look back on it. Boo.
Emily says
Oh my goodness, Katie, I watched March of the Penguins for the first time the other night and was bawling like a baby…. And I can’t use pregnancy as an excuse! (You look adorable, by the way!)
Liz from awifeandhercarpeneter says
You look fantastic Katie!!! I’m so excited for you guys and am praying that everything continues to go well. 🙂 You are just SO beautiful….

You look so cute! And I think it’s amazing you are going to try for a VBAC. I had one with our second and it was the most amazing experience.
Kimberly says
I completely understand how you can fall asleep at the drop of a hat; I’m in the same boat! Over this last week, come 2:30/3:00pm, I am the walking dead. I’m surprised I haven’t passed out at my desk yet … that would be a field day for my boss. I made my 8 week appointment but am disappointed to hear that they don’t listen for the heartbeat until at least 10 weeks. I want to hear it so badly! Doesn’t it stink that once you wait what seems like FOREVER to be pregnant, you have to wait another 8 months (by the time you find out…) to meet the little one?
Tara says
How do you look like you’ve lost weight in your face? Maybe you have, or maybe it is an old supermodel trick, but your face looks ‘leaner’ in the 10 week pic (I mean that in a good way and don’t read into it at all – you looked glowing and beautiful in week #5 too).
I love these pictures. We barely took any of me when I was pregnant and I regret it. I want a #2 so badly, but my husband is dead set against it. I am living through you on this one.
Keep napping and grow that little bun!
Jess says
You are the cutest pregnant girl!! 🙂
Ann L. says
So excited to see a pregnancy update. You look a-ma-zing! Maybe it’s due to the done hair and make-up or the photoshop, but I think it’s just because you look so happy to have a bun in the oven. Still so happy for you and your family!
Question for you (that I hope isn’t too personal since you have written about it on here previously!)—I know with Will you gained more weight than you had wanted and dealt with being really swollen by the time he was born. Even though most of it came off within a short time after having Will because of how much water weight it was, are you/will you be doing anything different this pregnancy in terms of what you eat/whether you excercise at all/anything else to keep the numbers lower this time around?
Teresa @ wherelovemeetslife says
I pulled my maternity clothes out a week ago…. and I am ready to wear them!! I’m not really gaining any weight just yet, and not really showing, but everything is getting snug and uncomfortable. How I love maternity clothes, never thought I would say something like that either!!! 🙂 Glad your doing well… I can attest to the tiredness – toddler and pregnancy = tired momma. But you do look great and I am sure that will continue!
Renee says
I’m due Nov 2 so we’re due super close. I’m taken a couple awful pictures in the mirror but that’s it. You look super cute. It’s going to be so fun to see the progression.
Sarah says
You are too cute! I love your makeup in the new picture! What are makeup are you wearing? Your hair looks amazing too. It’s that pregnancy glow isn’t it? 🙂
Susan Atkins says
I don’t see why not. Just check the bottle’s label to make sure there aren’t any temperature recommendations (the label will probaby just say cool, dry place and to avoid heat). If you’re taking an OTC prenatal vitamin with DHA/EPA and the source is a Fish Oil type source (rather than one from the pharmacy requiring a prescription), I’d take it to your OB and get her final opinion. OTC vitamins don’t adhere to the same regulations that prescription medications and vitamins do. OTC sources of DHA/EPA may not be as pure as prescription sources, therefore increased traces of Mercury (although not huge) are possible – we all want the best for Baby Bower here! Your OB may feel perfectly ok with you taking an OTC multivit – otherwise she might write ya an Rx for something else. Either way, stick ’em in the fridge and take with a full glass of water! I hail from Richmond near Sherry and John fyi!
Megan says
Zits = girl. I swear. I just had twins, and had zits on half my face, and one was a girl, the other a boy.

You look so beautiful!!! I found out I was preggers with my son at 5 months. I had no symptoms at all!

You are so gosh darn cute! I can’t wait to see more belly pics! P.S. LOVE your bucket list! 🙂

My sense of smell has gone crazy too! Unfortunately, I was crazy nauseous, but I only got sick sick three times. Also unfortunately I work at a waste water treatment plant (I love my job, but those smells never bothered me before!), so that didn’t help the constant nausea. And I feel you on the house thing… my house has the most horrible odor to me, that no one else smells so they all think I’m crazy. But it sends me running to the bathroom almost daily, even though the doc keeps telling me I should be done with morning sickness any day now! I’m just a few weeks ahead of you, so here is my 15 week update…pardon the terrible photo! (http://www.tickledwinks.blogspot.com/2012/04/15.html)

Congratulations on hitting that third trimester milestone!
As a card carrying member of the VBAC Club I wish you all the best! I had a c-section with my first baby girl after three days of labor and three hours of active pushing. Due to my hubbies 3rd deployment we ignored the advice to wait until we tried for another baby and one year and two weeks later we had our second baby girl via VBAC (Dad made it home from Iraq for the birth *yeah, then left for another 9 month *boo) After my hubby returned from his 4th deployment we had our 3rd baby girl and our 2nd VBAC. I’m also a card carrying member of the “I have a 3 yr old, 2 yr old, and 10 month old and sometimes goldfish crackers CAN be dinner” club 😉
My VBACs were uneventful and dare I say easy? I wish you the best of luck!
april says
You look beautiful and so happy! Can’t wait to follow the new little babe’s progress in utero 🙂 I’m glad you found a good doc who supports VBAC’s. I am not yet pregnant with my 2nd but have been considering a VBAC attempt when the time comes. Just be sure to research the pros and cons…there is a lot of scary info out there. Hopefully you’ll share some insight into that subject once you start having your own personal experiences with your new OB!

I love the white background. Maybe it’s because your angles are different on the patterned background shots. I like having the font above your head, simple and beautiful! You are glowing!

Oh, and I love the differences in the two types of photos. I think it is fun to have them both!

You are adorable. I’m 36 weeks today and still barfing constantly. That’s 30 straight weeks for being sick. I’ve been praying that no one in the history of the world will feel sick (though that may cause a population increase) so I’m glad you are feeling great! The gummy vitamins are great (they are all I can keep down and I took nothing with my first pregnancy as I was even more sick then). Good luck! Love seeing your updates!
Kaitlin Jenkins says
Katie: You’re glowing! : ) Tell Baby Bower that Nov. 2nd is the way to go, then maybe he/she will get to vote for the first time on their 18th bday like me!

ohhhh you are just adorable. i ADORE your hair. my hair was accidentally that short a few months ago and though i got compliments, i just didn’t feel like i pulled it off well.
also, in your last post will looks even MORE like jeremy’s exact clone. i typically can see both of you in him but oh my gosh, that photo, man!
Liz says
You look incredible! So glad you’ve had an easy first-trimester. I had so much heartburn and queasiness.
Gummy vitamins are awesome. Although I have to admit, after about 9 months of eating those things every day, I’m kind of over them. Still better than the big, stinky pills though.
Caroline says
You look great, Katie! Love the pics & updates!

I’m gonna have to agree with everyone else and tell you how beautiful you are! I love the extra glow a pregnancy gives women. I’m currently baby craving–but know that it’s just not our time yet. It’s hard to be patient for something that I know will give me so much joy.
It’s safe to say I’ll be enjoying every detail you share with us about this new precious gift of yours. Thanks for being honest and giving us all so much laughter and joy through the life you live. 🙂

I was hoping for a pregnancy update! Congrats! I’m at 39+3 with our 3rd, and waiting semi-patiently to go into labor to attempt my 2nd vbac. I had a successful one with my middle child. Can’t wait to read about your journey, and I hope you are able to get your vbac! It was one of the greatest things I have done for myself.

I am 3 weeks away from Baby #3 and was able to stay in regular clothes for quite a while using the belly band thing from Target. Great $20 investment. I’m not a huge fan of the whole belly button popping out phenomenon, so I still use the band when I wear dresses.
Jen says
Ditto the Target gummy prenatals, they are so much easier to take when you feel awful. They also now have Target gummy DHA, zero fishy taste.
You’re looking great!

Congrats!! I’m due 11/21 with my first – can’t wait to be through the first trimester and feeling more confident!

I just wanted to write and encourage you. You are a wonderful mama and you’re doing a great job with little Will. It’s okay to pop in a video and take a nap. You look wonderful too! I have never written before but I felt God leading me to just encourage you today! It’s okay that not everything gets done or that you feel like you overwhelmed! It won’t last and as you know it goes so fast! You have a wonderful hubby, little boy and a family and they will be your support system through the pregnancy. Just remember to take one day at a time. Take lots of breaks throughout the day and play with little Will. You should be so proud of yourself. If only there were more mama’s like you! I’m not trying to sound like a know-it-all, far from it! I’ve just had 4 babies of my own and now a pround grandma! So I just remember how it feels and you are an amazing lady so just stay close to your family and keep praying. God will sustain you and give you the strength and grace to get through each day. You have lot’s of people praying for you, including me! I love reading your blog each day. You make alot of people happy each day and give us the courage to try new things ( I have learned so much because of you!) so keep it up and stay strong! (sorry for the long email).

The DHA pills bothered me too. I was always grossed out if I burped after taking them. My trick was to take them before I went to sleep. I didn’t notice it since I was asleep and the problem seemed to disappear by the morning.
Stephanie/SwoodsonVintage says
Also in regards to the fish pills, I love these: http://www.amazon.com/Nordic-Naturals-DHA-Formula-500mg-Strawberry/dp/B002CQU55A/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1335195673&sr=8-1 because they have natural strawberry flavor! and I take them at night so I don’t notice if fish breaks through. Good luck!

‘Zitsville’ and ‘blow chunks’ haha. Awesome. Way to keep it real. Loved the post and loved the update. Best wishes for a continued, amazing pregnancy 🙂

I think I’m unnaturally excited about your pregnancy. I’ve been thinking about you and praying for you and the baby, that all goes well and you’ll have a healthy baby. I’m just so excited! Especially after reading about how much you’ve prayed for another baby. Should I be this excited? I don’t even know you! And I LOVE your pictures. Prettiest pregnant lady I’ve EVER seen.
Cathy says
You look great! I love your sweet smile in the very first picture. Must be the pregnancy glow 🙂

So excited to follow these pregnancy posts! Way back around Halloween, I commented to my husband “she’s gotta cut that hair, then she’ll get pregnant.” I don’t know where that thought came from, but I’m marking it down as a hit 😉 I’m feeling a girl for you, btw.
I loved spectrum essentials prenatal DhA. All those good omegas but not from a fish source so no fishy taste/breath afterwards. Cheapest place I’ve found it is vitacost.com. For the prenatal multivitamin I like rainbow light one a day. Pill is big but not huge and the taste wasn’t terrible. Those I order from Amazon.
Elizabeth says
First of all, you look absolutely radiant. Secondly, those family pictures of yours made me laugh so hard, the workmen at the house next door to mine actually stopped their hammering, paused for a moment, and said, “What’s that noise?”
julianna says
Glad to hear things are going well! The fatigue may be frustrating, but you look sooo much more well-rested in the 10-week photo than the 5-week. The extra rest is obviously agreeing with you.
For your clothes: have you tried a Bella Band? It’s a wide, stretchy piece of fabric that goes over your tummy and the top of your pants. It lets you wear your pre-pregnancy pants unbuttoned and unzipped without anyone knowing, and keeps them from falling down. Also, if your shirts ride up too much over your bump, it helps cover up. It just looks like you’ve layered your clothes over a tank or T-shirt. There are a ton of places that sell the original Bella Bands, plus I’m pretty sure Target now has a cheaper knockoff — I don’t know what the Target version is called, but it shouldn’t be too hard to find.
Jane says
Katie , do you think the pack and play is comfortable as a daily sleeping place instead of a bassinet ? We will get a crib , but I am thinking that I will use the pack n play with a bassinet option for the initial one month or so. Are they comfortable enough for the baby?
Katie Wolcott says
Yup! I did the amazon thing too with the gummy vitamins. They taste so great! My baby girl was born 5 weeks ago and I’m still taking them (they are fantastic!). Only downside is that they can get pricey and don’t last as long because you need to take two to get the recommended dose. But they are MUCH easier to take. Good luck, you look fabulous!
Ashley says
So glad to hear you’re done with the first trimester! We prayed for you every night. Hope the Dr. appt goes well!

Thank you for the update. I usually go to a nurse practitioner for my girly stuff so when I was preggo I went from one OBGYN to another (in the same office, they had like 7) Until I settled on one (and he wasn’t even for sure going to deliver the baby. But he was on duty the night I delivered thank god!). I took vegetarian prenatal vits. No fishy smell at all. The are country life maxi pre natal. My husband did a TON of research and liked these best. I still have a few unopened bottles (you can totally have them just let me know, although they are 1 year old but say best by 12/12). Good Luck and Hang in there!

Well, it seems like these days they recommend babies to sleep on the hardest surface possible…Will still can sleep in his pack n play (at the lower level) but the pad is the same…so I figure it can’t be too hard.

I am still using the Bare Minerals – and I hate to say it but I think it’s the assistant in the break-out department. I never had it this bad and it all started about the week after using it which was before getting pregnant and hormonal. Everything else is just whatever I can find cheap with a coupon 🙂

I definitely want to be more active this time around. Last time, I was dealing with swelling issues before getting pregnant (weird I know) but I think a large part of that was inactivity. SOooo this time I plan on doing more daily activity and sticking to a better diet…especially at night…because that is when I am prone to eat large bushels of candy 🙂

I think it’s just the angle. I definitely haven’t lost anything 🙂

Katie says
No – only because in my family we have blood clot problems (my dad has DVT which in our family is heriditary). That normally wouldn’t mean a whole lot – but in my sister’s case, when she gave birth, she had many clots and lost blood and tore…so she almost had to have surgery immediately after birth…and when I had the section, my blood pressure was way low…so just in case there are blood problems, I’d rather be in a hospital close to large bags of blood 🙂

2 I would have a hard time deciding between the two types of pics also. Bunny are are super cute. But I love your little smirk in the other one too.
3 My vitamins were so gross. I took them before bed because they always made me burp. But sometimes it was still so bad in the middle of the night the burps would totally wake me up and make me puke.

you look so pretty especially with the bunny ears Katie :-)…
Did you post a photo of your new living room carpet.. I think i may have missed it… I’ve been waiting… Inquiring minds need to know…
thank you for this blog… loove love love it… xo P

Hey! Sometimes gummy vitamins leave out some of the stronger tasting ones, so they won’t taste bad. (Some of the B’s I think). So just check and make sure whatever you buy next has everything you need! 🙂

I’m 15 weeks pregnant and have been very sick so I switched from the Target brand of Prenatals to BNexa vitamins (with prescription through my OB, but they gave me TONS of samples).
BNexa is brand new and FILLED with B6 and Ginger root to help settle a nauseous stomach. I was so sick (this is my 3rd) and this is the first vitamin in 3 pregnancies that actually settled my stomach rather than made it more upset. I was very grateful they finally came up with something like this!
It might be something for you to consider when you visit with your OB.

The heightened sense of smell was how I knew I was pregnant with my son – I almost gagged on the smell of laundry detergent before I knew I was pregnant. I bought a pregnancy test immediately, and was right! 🙂

I’m 18 wks prego with baby #2…this time it is a boy and #1 was a girl…I have random pop ups and this wash is great, http://www.belliskincare.com/pregnancy/acne-cleansing-facial-wash.html AND I use a mix of lavender oil and lemon oil on my face at night to help clear anything up since we are not supposed to use all the standard pimple fixes 🙂
Valerie @ makingitworthy.com says
ha! I thought the same thing about the hair, and just told a friend who’s been trying for a long time that she should maybe try cutting her hair (it’s super long)…I don’t know where I got it from either, just seems like it would give you an added boost somehow, w/o extra nutrients going to a long mane…she thought I was crazy, but got her hair cut the next day…but we’ll see! I also think it’s a girl…no good reason why.

I love what you said about doing right by your blessings. That is such a true true statement. I agree with everyone else’s comments–you are such a cute pregnant momma! I’m sure that you’re exhausted but I know you are a good mom to Will! Still praying for you and the baby! 🙂

how have you completed your first trimester at 10 weeks?
VTMamateurs says
Happy 10 weeks- 25% there!! We’re working on chipping away our baby bucket list as well: http://vtmamateurs.com/2012/04/02/monday-mayhem-baby-bucket-list/
Jen says
First of all, you look amazing!
Secondly, it TOTALLY gets better! Being tired in the first trimester can really take a toll on your patience. Having a toddler can take a toll on your patience. Having a hubby gone from sun-up to sun-down can take a toll on your patience. Hang in there…
And third, if you can still be funny writing a post about feeling like a failure, then I’d say you are golden! What mom doesn’t relate to what you are saying? I know I sure do! In fact, just yesterday a friend was walking by the house, and I invited her inside. I immediately regretted that decision. My house had apparently barfed all over itself and there were toys, stripped off clothes (from my toddler, not me!), disgusting dishes, and dog hair everywhere! It was not pretty.
Anyway, I love reading your blog because I love how real you are. Keep it up!

Oh man, I totally just jumped on that website and put my due date in and basically read every day from now until June – ha! Love it!

Unsolicited advice – I’m not going to lie – having 2 kids is not easy! Do your best to keep on being positive and adjust to all of these changes in your life. Rest whenever you can. Don’t be afraid to ask for help if you need it.

You are too cute! Best wishes for a smooth pregnancy. 🙂

Yay! I am due November 2nd with my first. I am so excited to share my pregnancy journey with you. Congrats!!

I got that vitamin dragon breath, too! Awful! My doc switched up my prenatals thankfully. However, those had so many minerals in them I got a kidney stone. 🙁 That was worse than labor – in my humble opinion. Now I’m taking iron pills with vitamin C and folic acid. I didn’t have my first doctors appointment until 10 weeks, don’t feel bad about no getting there yet. The doctors and midwives won’t see a woman until her pregnancy is considered “viable” here. I don’t like that term, but that’s what they say. Glad you found a doc willing to attempt a VBAC! Hard to find a doc that will do that!
Natalie says
Ok, you are gorgeous! Love the new pic of you and your teeny baby bump! 🙂
Molly says
Beautiful Picture, Katie!
Great goal of a VBAC!!! I both a C-Section for my first pregnancy, and a VBACS for my second. We did just what you did, found a doctor who was experienced and comfortable with that, and geared to helping us be successful. It was a wonderful experience. I pray that yours is too!
Blessings to your growing family!
Stephanie Elise says
Looking gorgeous!!! As for the prenatal vitamins and fish mouth, put them in the freezer! Seriously. The fish oil freezes and defrosts in your stomach so the fishiness is not as bad.
Katy says
Yes! Definitely the gummy prenatals! They are super yummy. Kinda like a sour gummy bear. You look radiant!

You look absolutely stunning!

Have you ever seen the tip on pinterest using a rubberband to give you an extra “inch” in the pants? you literally loop it through the eye where the button would go then loop it back around over the button! Works GREAT, just wear a longish shirt to cover the rubberband and unzipped zipper!
PS your hair is growing SUPER fast! No wonder you donate! I have been growing mine for THREE YEARS after chopping it off when I was pregnant, hormonal and delusional. It still hasn’t gotten past my shoulder blades!
stephanie says
The prenatal vitamins from target are wonderful….I’m 9 weeks pregnant and I love them! Good luck!

You’re so darling — and still so tiny! Your baby bump looks no bigger than a Chipotle lunch so far. But seriously, lady hormone fluctuations are proof God is a dude!
Julie says
I agree with everyone else – you look beautiful! I’m enjoying this next phase of your family – thank you so much for sharing so honestly!!
Elizabeth says
I also love the Target prenatal gummies…they smell awful if you sniff the container, so don’t, but they taste great. My only word of warning is they don’t have any iron in them like regular prenatal vitamins, so just make sure you are aware and take additional iron supplements if needed! Love your baby updates 🙂
Priscilla says
You are so stinkin’ cute in that picture! I want to copy your hair cut!
Also, you are not failing! I have the same doubts about myself as a wife & a teacher all the time – & I don’t even have kids yet! Oh boy….
Sarah says
Im due the week after you! how fun!
ask your doctor for samples of VITAFOIL…its a prenatal with dha and everything in it but its smaller, easy to take and has extra folic acid in it…no more nasty fishy tablets!
Katie says
Could I use an extra long rubber band to get an extra five to seven inches?
Just wondering.

CONGRATS Katie!!!
I have a 10 week old and your photos and updates are already making me miss being pregnant!
Pregnancy sure does suit you- You look amazing!!! I can see the glow even through photos! As a fellow Katie who struggled to get pregnant I just cannot say congratulations enough and also a HUGE thank you for sharing your struggles, Im sure it always wasn’t easy but you have no idea how helpful (even after the fact – as I was pregnant when you shared your struggles) it is to know you’re not the only one who doesn’t get knocked up just by smiling at your husband! haha ;p

Best of luck with the VBAC!!!!! I had the big C with my first, and just had my VBAC baby this past June. I did the same as you, but switched from an OBGYN to a midwifery group (still have the bambino in a hospital) and it was a WONDERFUL experience. Hope things work out for you! ps- you look awesome!

So I did *not* read through all the other comments to check if someone said this before… but I’m taking gummy pre-natal vitamins I got at Wal-Mart and I love them… I think it was ten bucks for a huge jar of them… I don’t know how much they cost at Target but Wal-Mart tends to be cheaper so just thought I’d mention it.

You look so darling – and what a great mom you are! I feel for you with the smells … I had to banish people from my office when I was pregnant … the smell of coffee was so bad I thought I’d faint when someone had a cup and garlic … good lord. I couldn’t even talk to anyone who had eaten it, much less food that had garlic in it.
My young miss turned 10 today … and I am amazed and stunned at how fast the time goes. Enjoy every moment and please don’t beat yourself up … you are doing a GREAT job, you are an GREAT mom and your kid(s) are super lucky!

Hey Katie – I struggle with persistent acne and recently learned that dairy can be a big contributor to certain types of acne – those that are hormonally caused, like mine. Since giving up dairy my face has changed 100% (for the better!)…it may or may not help you, but if you do some research you’ll learn there’s a link between the hormones in dairy and acne. Worth a shot, even if it’s short term since I have heard most pregnancy related acne clears up after the first trimester. 🙂

Such a cute way to document!
I wanted to let you know that I featured you and your Starburst mirror tutorial on my blog! I made one of my own….but it didn’t turn out quite the same as yours. 🙂

I saw, but it contradicts itself aswell since it says 1st trimester ends at 12 weeks and 2nd starts at 13….where’d the days inbetween go :D? Anyway, time flies when you’re pregnant I swear! I’m a little scared thought I would have longer to prepare….9 Months sounds long – but when you’re 15/40 it’s like ARGHHH!!!!

So funny…up until now I just couldn’t understand the significance of the Sharpie you were holding in the 5 week photo. 🙂
I vote for the fun background. Wearing the same white shirt ties everything together but the different backgrounds and additional costume accessories are totally you! Plus, it’s kind of like your own little twist on the maternity photos you found on the web.
So happy for your cute little bump!

I love your photo series! Are you sticking to an every-5-weeks photo, or is it going to chane to weekly? I was so random at keeping a photo of my first pregnancy. It was random weeks when I remembered to take a picture. Now (ugh thanks to pinterest) I have lots of cute ideas on how to document the front bump, but ideas don’t always improve memory and motivation!
amy says
I usually enjoy your posts, but these pregnancy pictures are quite vain and annoying. OH, you wanted me to tell you how amazing you look!!!? We’ll I’m not. People that beg for praise and need to be constantly stroked are annoying.
And by the way…you aren’t in your 2nd trimester…2nd trimester starts at 13 weeks & 3 days. So you have another week to go…
Sami says
Amen girl…. I feel like we are having deuling pregnancies… exact same symptoms. Only mine was four years ago (I’m calling that you’re having a girl by the way. “They” always say acne gets bad when you are carrying a girl because they are “stealing your beauty.”)
And the smells, OH THE SMELLS!! I was shopping in Bath and Body trying to pick out a present for a friend, and couldn’t understand why EVERY.SINGLE.THING. smelled sooo horrible! I remember rambling on and on how I couldn’t believe that B&B had turned so horrible, blah blah blah….. two weeks later, I found out I was preggo.

Katie, you look so great! And yeah, who’s to say you can’t do both types of photo documentation. But if you drop one, don’t let it be the subdued version – I just love the simplicity.
Dang! Prenatal vitamins are so confusing! I haven’t spawned yet, but am taking a prenatal vitamin in the hopes of doing so. But I just discovered it doesn’t have DHA in it. I guess that’s probably important…back to the vitamin aisle…

I hate you just a little bit for not having morning sickness! With my 2nd, I was so sick it was unreal. I would even wake up in the middle of the night having to barf! You look great and I love love love your hair! Good luck at your appointment.
Ma-ma-ma says
A rubber band was painful for me because I grew a little fuzzy hair right at my jeans button when I was pregnant.
Have you looked for “buttonhole elastic” at the fabric store? You can get a strip of it and double-stitch it to the ‘hole’ side of your jeans. Then just button in whichever hole you need…and since there’s so many holes on the elastic to choose from, you can get the snug fit you need to help avoid crack attack.
Post-pregnancy, you can button down where you need your size as you’re losing the weight. When you’re done with the elastic, just pull out the stitches. Jeans are durable fabric, so you won’t even see the stitching marks.
Rachel says
On a totally superficial note…your hair looks fantastic!

I used to use Bare Minerals and had breakouts from it as well. It wasn’t too bad at first since I was using it in the winter, but I really noticed a bad reaction once summer came and I started to sweat while wearing it. My face would get really itchy and I would get lots of little white bumps. I started researching online and found out that it has an ingredient called bismuth oxychloride, which many people have bad reactions too. I ended up switching to a makeup brand called Faeirie Organic Minerals. It’s really similar to BM in terms of application and coverage, but doesn’t have the bismuth oxy. in it. It’s only available online which can be a tad annoying as you have to plan ahead with ordering, but it’s definitely worth not having breakout issues. If you are interested in trying it out, you can order some samples through their website (just Google “Faerie Organic”).

Thanks for the update on the pre-pregnancy bucket list. I wrote my own list in Feb. and have since crossed off skiing, hot tubbing, eating lunch meat, getting sloshed, eating soft cheese, eating sushi, attend wine tasting, and using an electric blanket.
Oh, and my hubby helped the list too by painting all the trim (okay, still 2 rooms left, but those can be completely sealed off), so mucho thanks for the suggestion! We’re starting to try this week, so it’s pretty exciting.

Katie-
I had a section with baby #1 and a VBAC with #2…it was life altering and I wish you all the best in accomplishing it. My docs and midwives were super supportive but did not put pressure me to do one or the other. As long as you trust that they will take care of that little one on delivery day all you need to do is trust your body and the rest takes care of itself…babies are born all over the world and have been for centuries. I hope, hope, hope that you are able to do it.
