Argh.
That is me.
As most of you know – we live in Georgia. Yes. The state that has been getting a lot of rain. And now it has some major issues. Mudslides, floods, deaths, just to name a few. And while I am complaining, here are a few more things to add to the compaint-o-meter:
- I got probably two hours of sleep last night. The power would flicker – which then activated our answering machine – making me think that there were burgler voices right outside…causing my ever-protective husband to jump outta bed and leave the room. Twenty minutes later, I was convinced that he was dead due to a shot from a gun that would be surely equipped with a silencer. And I should lay unmoving in bed – to trick the murderous theives into thinking I was asleep. because that makes sense at 2 in the morning.
- The thunder and lightening was so loud and bright that at one point around 3…my sleepless boyfriend just suggested that we watch tv. But I refused so that I could lay in bed wrapped up in the fear of a tree crashing me into the basement.
- Due to flooding, closed schools, and road issues – my fifteen minute commute took an hour.
- I walked into our office this morning and it had water issues. And I am the only one there today. So I spent the better part of the morning with papertowels wrapped around my feet as I tried to soak up the flooded kitchen, two offices and hall.
- As I was doing a paper-towel dance, I recieve a call from my boyfriend. Our basement is flooded. Torrey (our basement roomie) doesn’t know his stuff is soaked yet.
On the flipside – there are some things to be glad about:
- I did get a few hours of sleep vs. none.
- my boyfriend isn’t dead.
- no trees fell on our house.
- I got to work in one piece.
- We had plenty of papertowels at work.
- Jeremy works from home and is able to soak up the water in the basement.
- Torrey doesn’t know his stuff is soaked yet.
So if you get a chance – say a little prayer for all those folks who are going through loss that ensued from flooding. Our little speedbumps are so small in comparison 🙂
Thanks for letting me vent.
Back to papertowel-boots 🙂

Ugh, I’ve dealt with flooding before and it is the worst! I also lay very still in bed when I hear sounds like someone might be in the house. We are brilliant aren’t we – I’m sure the last place they’d think to look for the homeowner in the middle of the night is the homeowners bed.

Hi Katie, What a day, weekend, week with all this rain. I didn’t know that you lived in Georgia I thought you guys live in Tennessee for some reason. Well my husband and I live in Atlanta and this weather has been incredible to say the least. Lucky we have not suffered anything other than getting soaking wet this weekend. Take care and good luck. EM
P.S. I love your blog and all your decorating ideas!

So glad you are safe! We are very damp but not flooded here in Athens, and luckily our house is on top of a hill. I know we need the rain, but maybe just not this much all at once, right? My biggest whine is that my whole house smells like wet dog. Yuck.

We live in the Atlanta ‘burbs… it’s RIDICULOUS. Your post (sorry!) made me feel better because I got the exact same call from my husband at about 8:30 saying our basement is flooded, too! I wanted to cry… NOT a way to start the week.
I hope it dries up for us Georgians soon… and thanks for venting for all of us and making me feel less alone in this water mess! And also for helping me see the bigger picture. Things could be SO much worse.

Oh no! That’s horrible! Minnesota went through some major flooding three summers ago and some of my friends lost their homes. I’m so sad to hear your basement flooded after all your hard work! I hope there isn’t too much damage!

I live in GA too and all of this rain is making me feel a little blue! It doesnt help that we went on vacation to Panama City Beach last week and didn’t see much sun there either. But we are all blessed to be safe and have a home to protect us from the storms! Also, I just think back over the past couple of years and how often we have prayed for rain. God doesnt always answer our prayers the way we would like but it is all in his control! I am thankful for the rain! (and VERY thankful for a hot hubby to cuddle up with during the storm!)

I feel your pain! I live in the same general area you do and, after 2.5 hours trying to get around the flooding to work, I gave up and went home. BTW, I am adoring your blog and your home. Good luck with getting the basement all dry and pretty again!

A lot of people are having days like that. We’re in Jackson County GA. It’s storming fierce out right now! The thunder is endless, I wonder what is getting hit by lightening constantly. I’m starting to be happy we dont have that basement we couldnt afford. That stinks that your’s got flooded and after all that work!! I know so many people were delayed and shut down today. I dont know what happened to me – i went all the way to suwanee then ikea and back with no traffic! Guess it all happened earlier. Well, I hope it stops soon and that you can be dry again.

Not to down play your rain (I live in the one area of Orlando that NEVER gets the rain) — but I had to read your line twice about being at work! It never dawned on me that you have a regular job!

Way to be optimistic! I love that.

Hang in there! I’ll say some prayers for you guys. We dealt with flooding in our first home back in April, we’re still cleaning up because we had our wedding and me finishing my degree in the interim. Hopefully your flood insurance will be as easy to work with as ours, we’ll be replacing our flooring soon. AS for lying stiff in the bed, I’ve been there and can totally relate. I can also relate to your basement flooding just after finishing up, we just remodeled our kitchen and lo and behold a pip in the attic busted, flooding the kitchen, we’re now having to replace the entire ceiling. You guys will definitely be in our thoughts. So crazy that we can live so far away but be so similar, really does make the world a little smaller 😀 (we’re in TX)

Your flipside outlook is refreshing: most people aren’t likely to look for a “silver lining” when things fall apart! I hope you guys are doing okay and that you were able to do some timely damage control in your basement.

Hey girl,
I’m just reading this and I’m glad you are okay. I live in Lithonia so its not too bad over here. I’ve never seen so much water here in Georgia. I just hope that this clears up soon.

Hi Katie. I live in Douglas County and my basement flooded also. I was really scared and upset as I watched the water rush in around my feet. But that quickly turned to thankfulness as I watched the firemen and police men in front of my house try and rescue the man whose vehicle had floated down the raging “creek” right next to my home. I feel blessed to still be here and will continue to pray for those who lost a lot more than me. And hang in there. It’s okay to vent every now and then. :o)

Oh no, I’m so sorry to hear of the flooding in your basement. Thank goodness everyone is safe in your home though.
