You guys have seen our bathroom transform from a laundry fiasco to a room fit for a queen…it has a throne, right?!? heehee. So queenies, I thought you might like to take a closer look. Specifically at the bits that reside on the cubbies above the pooper.
The little square cubbies are actually a spin on the traditional display shelves. But instead of creating a horizontal display, these cubbies are perfect for tall and skinny spaces. Seeing as how the space above a toilet is kinda tight, the vertical display is the way to go. Black cubes bring a little more swagger than just a framed photo while balancing the white mirror. So now that I sang the praises of cubbies…let’s pull a redneck and get ‘er done. The post, that is 🙂
The boyfriend and I registered for the cubbies at Bed, Bath & Beyond for our wedding. After unwrapping the package I was stumped on where to put them. Finally I settled on the bathroom because of the color. If you were interested, Target has them too.
Now for some tips. When setting up the trio, the key is to remember to keep them more seperated than Jon & Kate. Staggering their placement is crucial. And keep the nicknacks to a minimum. Remember…the square shelves are sculptural display pieces all by themselves so you don’t want to add too much and make it look cluttered.
The lowest cube has just the thing for a stanky group of kids in the pool. The round diffuser can last flush after flush 🙂 I like to refresh the scented oil in it right before peeps come over. Nothing says let-er-rip…and welcome to a guest like a fresh smelling loo. Plus, this little baby has an optional tealight that sits inside for maximum odor combat (granted I move it so that the house doesn’t catch on fire…again).
The largest of the cubes has two items on it – both with round profiles. And I love how the circular shapes add a soft little touch to the squares. The round frame is from Target…and was purchase for $5 about three years ago. The white goblet is great for fresh flowers and I got it at Goodwill for $1…it was chipped on one side but nobody pokes around in bathrooms, right?
Lastly, we have the smallest of the cubbies. And this one has my favorite item. The little bride and groom are antique caketoppers that I scored on ebay before we tied the balls to the chain. That came out wrong. Yes, they actually sat on our wedding cake and I love being able to see them everyday. Plus the black and white colors fit right in with the decor.
So there you have it. The little bitties in our bathroom…so now is your turn. What do you do over your throne? And let’s stick with decor folks…potty humor is disgusting 🙂

I like that you are reusing your wedding cake topper. My fiance and I got this artsy, white ceramic topper that will be beautiful in our house…somewhere. 🙂

I love these, and I am totally stealing your idea. 🙂 Where did you get the round diffuser? What kind is it?

where do you get this round diffuser of yours? =)

Hi Priscilla & Mary!
I got the round diffuser at Pier One…they carry some great products to help make your room smell delish. They even sell a variety of scented oils without the diffuser if you already have one you love.

I also registered for them at bb&b and for the last 9 months they have been sitting in their box and the dryer waiting to be used! I guess the bathroom is as good as any place seeing how mine is black, white and yellow!

Looks great. I have baby pictures of me and B in the tub above our guest bathroom, nothing in our master, and nothing in the other one either.

Oh Emily – I love the idea of childhood photos of you and the hubs in the tub. For some reason – I remembered that idea and think it is one of the cutest ways to personalize your bathroom. I would totally scam that but the only bathtub photos of me are totally inappropriate 🙂
