Ya’ll remember when we were tackling our yard renovation?
And we kinda left the yard hanging back in August. We ended up planting a bunch of great shrubs (including some limelight hydrangeas, azaleas and crepe myrtles) and we completely neglected the right side of the yard.
It’s the area with the arrow. The area that got no love. no help. no Bower Power. it was Bower powerless. Powerless and pitiful.
But now we are back to show you that it actually got completed. That’s right. We finished a project.
Do you realize what that means?
It means that life on a space station is possible. That OJ actually might have been innocent. That hanging out with Tori Spelling will make you smarter. Ok…that’s pushing it.
But the point is….we actually finished a project. That has never been done before.
And I can’t wait to show you. But first – you must become familiar with the yard.
The right side of the yard used to have a couple trees living there.
But we soon gave them the old heave-ho in the form of a little lumberjack action.
On the other end of the yard (near the street), we had our ever-so-classy-drainage ditch. You can tell just by looking at the sucker that it was clearly providing extensive draining powers to the yard. I mean, just look at those neatly arranged rocks….it’s practically a drainage ditch cathedral. not.
And if you were around waaay back in August, you will remember all the posts about how we started the yard and ended up finding a bunch of rocks.
Enough rocks to build one very handsome stone wall in fact. And this little stone wall was key in allowing us to have a semi-flat sodded yard.
But that area above the wall?
That poor neglected area?
It sat for months.
Looked like this:
And the worst part?
We didn’t have enough large stones to finish the wall.
It just sortof muddled off at the end.
And that my friends, is the beginning of the right side story.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s “Right Side Story – The During” where I get to show you how we (as in Jeremy) finished up the stone wall, tilled the rocky soil and planted a bunch more plants to get this part of the yard ready to call it a winter.
And for more yard renovations, check out the past posts on how we tackled the other parts of the yard: Cutting down the Tree, Planning our Attack, Prepping the Yard, Grading, Replanning our Attack, Building a Stone Wall, Sodding, Building a Retaining Wall, Planting Shrubbery, and Fixing the end of a Drainage Ditch. That should keep you occupied for a couple minutes at least 🙂
