We found a crib on Craigslist. I know. This is probably premature. But you people want me to become attached to this thing, right? Well, the way to do it is through retail therapy 🙂
It is the Sleigh Adjustable Gate Crib from Pottery Barn Kids. Usually it retails for $699. But the guy on craigslist is willing to sell us the crib and the conversion kit (to make it into a toddler bed) for $250.
Right now it is in this dark rustic sun valley espresso color. But I figure that if is sportin nicks or scratches, we can always spray it white. It does look good in white – take a look:
I haven’t really given much thought to whether Dinobug will be a boy or girl. But Jeremy would love to have a boy. So I am thinking that if the Lord decided to give Dino some dinos…well, I would go with either a red/white/blue palate or a brown/navy/khaki colored room. I leave you with some inspiration 🙂

I vote for the brown/navy combo – lovely!

I like the room with the airplanes…

KATIE…Something in the pictures you posted caught my eye. The first pink picture has a frame on wall with the center painted pink and a bunch of frames in the center. I LOVE THIS!!!

I have this exact crib (but in white) bought also from Craigslist! I absolutely love the crib! $250 is a steal…I think I paid $300 for mine. Definitely go and look at it before you purchase. We were able to talk them down another $50. Good luck on the nursery and can’t wait to see the progress!

I’m a lurker but congrats on the baby! Gotta love Pottery Barn!

That crib is very cute! What a steal for only $250. I love the red, white and blue color scheme for a little boy/dino. 🙂

the second inspiration photos is one that I have saved for my 3 boys bedroom! great choices.

That second inspiration pic with the brown, red, and blue beds is so Americana- reminds me of being up-north at the lake house for fourth of July (although our lake house interior is nowhere near as lovely)!

What a GREAT deal on the crib! Can’t wait to see what you end up doing. We are doing navy, brown, khaki, and blue for our baby boy and so far I’m loving it. I did the the red and blue for the first boy. Baby rooms are a lot of fun.
Chelsea says
Way to think ahead! I am sure this crib can see you through at least 2 of the 4 dinobugs your planning!

Just last week, we found out we’re expecting BABY #4!!! I’d love to paint our crib, too – the oak color is so ugly.
I was just wondering… do you think it’s safe to paint a crib? If I just get a latex, low-odor spray paint, do you think it’d be OK?
Have you thought about what you’re going to use?
allbowerpower says
Hey Lisa R.
If you are planning on painting a crib, I would suggest that you first sand down the piece thoroughly to remove previous varnish and also make sure the surface is ultra smooth with no knicks or cracks. These can lead to areas that can chip and chewing on paint chips is not exactly a healthy snack 🙂 After sanding, wipe the piece down very well and paint the wood with oil-based primer and two thin coats of oil or latex paint. Finish up with two thin coats of polyuerathane to protect your teething infant and your newly painted crib. Make sure you do all the steps in a well ventilated area and give the piece at least two days to fully dry before using. Hope this helps!

That is an incredible deal! Are you going to find out the sex and decorate accordingly, or are you going to make the nursery gender neutral? Happy decorating!
allbowerpower says
Hi Carmen,
We are definitely finding out the gender…and yes, we will decorate accordingly. I am a big believer in subjecting my children to my decor whims and I think that birth is an excellent time for them to practice humility and graciousness 🙂

Beautiful. I was browsing through the PBKids catalog this weekend too. So, so expensive, but such great inspiration!!!

I have the same crib in white. Mine is from jcpenney and it’s cheaper… Just FYI!
Sarah @ Dream In Domestic says
Oooh I love it in white! What a great buy! I love both color combos. What are your plans if you have a girl?
Kate says
I think we’re due around the same time (I’m due March 27th) and we just found out it’s a boy and we’re doing an airplane themed (subtly) room with baby blue, chocolate brown, tan and light green.
Congrats!

I hate to be a downer, but I just thought I’d share a point that we learned the hard way. Once you convert the crib to a toddler bed, this one doesn’t come with side safety rails. Buy separate ones, right? Tough. They are impossible to find short enough for toddler conversion beds.
If you have your heart set on this crib–it is beautiful–think about buying a separate toddler bed, or just move the little one into a twin or queen with rails when that time comes.
We did convert our crib into a toddler bed and without the rails, she fell out. We found it did have an additonal rail, but it was quite low. She actually got mad and kicked/pushed it out one day because she didn’t want to nap. The next day we bought a double mattress and converted it into head and foot boards. She’s been in that ever since. We then removed the safety rails after several months.
For our son, we bought a used regular crib from a friend and now we have an inexpensive toddler bed ready to go when he’s ready. All our kid furniture is natural color, so we can swap pieces.
I will also add that it’s much less expensive (and I think nicer) to go with a nice dresser than a changing table. We have the changing pad on the dresser and it still works even though our son is longer than the pad.
Congrats! Hope you bought the book Baby Bargains! It’s awesome!

I think it’s an adorable crib. One thought though, if you’re on the shorter side, you might want to find a drop side crib. I’m 5’5″, and I can barely reach my son in his crib now that it’s on the lowest setting. That comes much quicker than you think! We hit the lowest setting at six months. Some people don’t like drop sides, but our experience is that they aren’t a problem a well made crib. But really, that crib is precious! I like it in the dark wood for a boy a lot, but I’m getting girl vibes from you, if that isn’t too creepy to say.
In our eleven month old’s room, we went with white walls, dark blue furniture, and a hand painted train border and a train mobile. We wanted furniture and walls that could easily be changed according to our son’s whims and in case we move (we want to change school districts before he starts school.)

The brown/navy/khaki combo has my vote! But what if it’s a girl?
I’m so excited for you and the boyfriend 🙂
Jessica says
That is an insane deal! You must get it. I like it in the dark brown color, gender neutral and blends well in just about every room.

Hi,
I wanted to make you aware of the safety recall from Pottery Barn Kids on the Drop-Side Cribs.
I don’t know if that’s the one you have for baby Will or not but just in case it is,
here is the article directly from the PBK site: http://www.potterybarnkids.com/stylehouse/recall/dropside-cribs.html?cmtype=hplink&cm_re=FallD110-_-SafetyRecall_-DropSideCribs
Ed says
Do you still have the conversion kit? If you do I would buy from you.
Katie says
We do but we are going to keep it with the crib since we are still having little ones 🙂
