This is kinda embarrassing. So I have four kids. Two of which are still in diapers. And I do not have a diaper bag…..except for one….a Mickey Mouse diaper bag that I got on clearance at Walmart.
It was adorable and helpful and everything I needed it to be at Disney World…..seriously….who knew that diaper bags were so convenient?! But now? Now I am ready to pull the trigger and get me a really pretty diaper bag. Especially seeing as how I clearly am working on improving my handbag game. A few years ago, a friend convinced me to invest in nicer handbags….things that I love….nothing synthetic because it falls apart….but classic well-made bags that are something I will love forever….and I took that to heart. Shoot. I am in my thirties…it’s about time.
Now I have a clear no-cheaply-made-purse-protocol….and it totally works. I look for sales and wait till I can buy handbags and totes that I always say “OH heck yes!” to when getting dressed. I usually end up spending in the $100-$130 range…which admittedly is a lot for most people but I find myself buying less so it actually works out to be about the same amount I would have spent in the long run on multiple, cheaply made, and soon-to-be-falling-apart bags. They are amazingly sturdy, clean up nicely, always look so polished and put together. And what ends up happening is I stand there….holding a cartoon themed diaper bag on one arm and a really pretty satchel on the other.
WELL NO MORE LADIES.
(and the two dudes that read this blog….hey Pappap!)
NO MORE. Dear Mickey, you are gonna get retired to the ‘box of stuff I may never need again but I will keep it just in case’. The simple fact is…..I clean lots of poop off booties and thighs and feet and hands and I will have a grown up diaper bag that looks great because it holds the most important thing in my world…..the wipes and antibacterial gel 🙂 My mind is made up.
The only problem is – I don’t know what bag. I was hoping that maybe you guys could help me out. I was thinking of going with a striped bag….but there are a lot of options….so if you can give me any advice I’d love to hear it. Here are the options….(and you can click on any of them for the links to more details!)…
Obviously I’m thinking stripes 🙂 Also Jeremy wanted me to include a dude-bag in the mix because well….dudes.
And I also added that stroller bag…because I might just buy it and keep it permanently affixed to the stroller. It would be so nice to have that on hand anytime we break out the stroller!
But seriously – what do you vote? My first thought was that first bold black & white large striped one with the darker brown accents because all the good reviews. And then I also like the gray and white vertical striped version. It could get dirty though. The floor of our car has who-knows-what on it….so it’s a very real possibility that it would get dirty outside and inside. I’d have to look at it a little better I think. But anyhoo….anybody wanna throw an opinion in the ring? I’d love it if you helped this mama out – you never failed me yet!

Top right is my vote!
And a post about purses would be awesome. I just made the same decision as you; I spend $20 a year on a cute but cheap purse, but I get tired of having to buy a new purse all the time. I just spent $70 on one off Amazon; we’ll see what it actually looks like in person tomorrow… But if that doesn’t work out, I would love to hear your purse-buying strategy with some good links!

I don’t buy diaper bags. Because once you are done with the baby stage, its useless. I buy large tote bags. They can be used for diapers, wipes, snacks, toys, dry clothes, and even my wallet and keys. I love having several so I can change it up whenever I feel the need for something new. And one day when my kids don’t need me to carry their 50 items I can add more of my stuff to the bag.

I love the idea of stripes. I had the skip hop grey and white vertical striped bag and loved how it looked but it simply wasn’t big enough for me (I have 1 year old twins). I ended up getting the skip hop double duo in chevron. While I’m a little over chevron and preferred the patterns available in the regular skip hop duo, having a larger bag has made life so much easier! Good luck!

I love the bags by Little Unicorn – http://littleunicorn.com/collections/diaper-bags/weekender. I have the Rotunda and it is indestructible, has lots of pockets inside and tons of room. I even throw a little clutch in there that I can grab out when I go in to a store somewhere sans kids. AND it has stroller straps and a crossbody strap!
Joy says
I have the French Stripe Skip Hop bag and I like it so far. But I’ve been a mommy for a whopping 2 whole months so what do I know?? Ha!
Katie Dake says
Buy a larger nice handbag! Put some diapers and stuff in a pouch inside it, and then 1. You have a lovely large handbag, 2. you didn’t waste a bunch of money on a diaper bag.
Janet says
I’ve gone through a handful of different diaper bags over the years, and here are the characteristics IO have found the most important/convenient:
– Easily accessible external pocket(s) for keys, phone, wallet
– Big, deep internal pockets over elastic-top pockets
– GREAT shoulder strap. Do not underestimate how heavy this beast can get.
– The bag can stand up on its own. You’ve only got two hands, after all!
Stuff that’s not attached:
– A washable wet bag for gross dirty clothes
– Changing pads that come with diaper bags are often not that great. I’ve always been happiest buying a separate one that folds up and holds a diaper and wipes (diaper clutch), and it must have a wipe-able vinyl surface.
Brands
– I had a beautiful Skip Hop bag, but it really didn’t hold up very well. I travel with one made by Fisher Price that has a great structure and is very durable. My JJ Cole bag was indestructible. My husband’s Columbia messenger bag has also made it through a lot of travel and other abuse.
You don’t need a special stroller bag, just one that has hooks for a stroller handle (you can also buy the hooks separately). I’d recommend choosing a bag that you’d be proud to carry even without the kids in tow!

I thrifted a Petunia Pickle Bottom bag and I love it. They’ve got some dude options too that are quite nice. Worth looking at anyway. I was anti diaper bag before that.

A Matt & Nat back from Land of Nod would complement your style, I think. I love that they don’t actually look like diaper bags.

The brown leather bag! Because it does not look like a diaper bag. Actually, with my two little ones, I was simply putting a small zipper bag with 4 diapers and wet wipes into my bigger, normal lady bag. The zipper bag could then be easily transferred to my hubby’s daypack or to the bottom of the stroller.

The one I want (but can’t have 🙁 ) is the jujube classy bag in First Lady. It would fit right into your line up. Then there’s the be prepared one too that’s bigger and with two kiddos you’d probably need that one

I have the one in your line-up that is monogrammed. Mine doesn’t have a monogram but I still think it’s pretty chic – visually I have no complaints. The bag is deep, but not very wide so I find I have to make effort to put stuff back into the bag in an organized way or else things pile up and it looks disheveled and stuffed. Sometimes I wish I could just drop the wipes container, spit cloth, teething toy etc. back in the bag and have it disappear into the abyss. Other times, I’m glad the bag isn’t a bottomless pit because I am forced to be choosy about what I bring.
AshleyB says
I vote for the Skip Hop Duo. I have a different Skip Hop bag, and the stroller straps are SO NICE to have. It’s also had two years of consistent use and it still looks brand new, so if all their bags are of similar quality, it will hold up great. And it comes with a smaller changing pad, which fit better on bathroom changing tables and in other smaller spaces.

Check out Better Life Bags! You can customize the style you pick with how many pockets, zippers, fabric color ( they have stripes!) and leather options as well! The best part is its handmade in Detroit and benefits the women working from the community! They’re a little pricey but to get exactly what you want is worth the price! I sound like I’m a sales person for them haha I’m not just sharing something I love!

I got a Matt and Nat diaper bag with my second and love it! She’s almost 2 and it looks like the day I got it! I wanted something that didn’t scream diaper bag. It’s a faux brown leather. What’s great is it could totally be used later as a non-diaper bag too. Good luck!!
Chelsea says
I’m drawn to the brown leather bag because it’s so classic looking and easy it won’t clash with other bags/outfits. I have one from skip hop that is black with gold zippers and easy to clean and love the look, but found out they came out with a backpack version shortly after I was gifted mine. If I could get a new diaper bag, I would for sure get a back pack one to free up my hands. http://www.target.com/p/skip-hop-chelsea-downtown-chic-diaper-backpack-black/-/A-50325184?ref=tgt_adv_XS000000&AFID=google_pla_df&CPNG=&adgroup=&LID=700000001170770pgs&network=g&device=m&location=9007394&gclid=CjwKEAjw7ZHABRCTr_DV4_ejvgQSJACr-Ycwvhb_EMIQsGE2X-4Ql_M11vZJK0yikBMq-5XAbSCYZBoC7mLw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

I like the third one– Skip Hop Grand Central– and it has straps to attach it to stroller handles.

I’m all about the navy and white stripe with the leather straps, but let’s be honest….white and babies should not be in the same sentence together….EVER! The white is bright and crisp and beautiful and perfect for weekends at the beach while I sip my Mai Tai reading my favorite book while my cabana boy waits on me hand and foot, but with babies/toddlers/kids, that bag will be forever stained in vomit, juice spills, blowout diapers, etc. Get the Diaper Dude messenger bag for everyday use and get the navy and white striped for when the kids graduate high school and you can finally bask on the beach uninterrupted.

I have the Skip Hop Grand Central – love it! It has straps to attach to the stroller, which is handy. Lots of pockets for organization. Highly recommend!

We’ve used the Skip Hop brand and have a diaper-dude bag. And have loved them both immensely. The diaper-dude is actually quite useful and convenient. And doesn’t look bad. The Skip Hob bags are stylish and very practical. My favorite feature is the stroller clips (which the diaper-dude also has). You really can’t go wrong with both of those. Good luck!

I like the black and white stripe and the gray and white stripe skip hop bags. I have the gray and white one just in a different pattern and I’ve been happy with it.
I bought a backpack diaper bag for the hubby and we both love it. It allows hands free carrying. You might want to look at some backpack options for yourself! This one is cute and is gender neutral, I think:

I have the skip hop jump French stripe duo diaper bag. FYI – I got it at target or babiesrus for about half the price I see it listed for at pottery barn right now. I don’t have any major complaints, I’ve had it for a year and a half and it’s showing signs of abuse. Spilled sippy cup stains, general dirt on the outside/inside. I should look into the best way to wash it…. but that being said it’s a cute bag but probably not for full price given durability. Another thing: in my area, it seems like 50% of moms have this same bag.
Darby Hawley says
You’ve got several of the skip hop bags on here. I’ve had 2 of those (I got them because I thought they were cute), and they are totally cute, but they don’t hold nearly enough AND they have both fallen apart on me 🙁 I’ve got 2 under 2 so I haven’t been at this parenting thing very long, but they’re already fallen apart twice so that can’t be a good sign. I recently decided to switch up and go expensive especially if it’s going to last me a while and got the Kate Spade diaper bag….worth EVERY penny! And I honestly can see myself using this even when I don’t need a diaper bag anymore. Love your blog and cute kiddos!
Eliza says
I’d say whatever you get just make sure it’s a crossbody (aka hands-free) bag! It’s so much easier to chase after kids and navigate places when you’re not trying to keep a bag on your shoulder. Here’s another option:

May I suggest the Petunia Pickle Bottom “Boxy” diaper bag. It has an option for backpack straps which are amazing! You have fast moving little boys. Backpack straps are a must! It was my all time favorite!

I have two boys. We have used a Kalencom diaper bag, a Pottery Barn Kids Classic diaper bag , and a Skip Hop diaper bag purchased from Pottery Barn Kids. The Kalencom lasted until my oldest son was out of diapers (2 plus years). The PBK classic is nice for long trips, but I prefer the Skip Hop. The Skip Hop is made with a wipeable fabric. It is very durable and worth every penny we spent for it. I found it on clearance, too.

I have the gray and white horizontal one. I love it. I have a 4 year old, 2 year old, and 3 month old twins. Only the twins are in diapers. I can fit everything in there Including my pump. I use it as my purse now. The short straps are long enough for me to put it on my shoulder. Anyway, I didn’t carry a diaper bag with the other two. My rule was if I needed more than diapers, wipes, and a onesie, we were going home. I also have one from Pottery Barn that I got for my first baby that my husband likes. It only has a long shoulder strap and I’m short so it was too long for me to carry comfortably.
Katie says
I have the striped skip hop one, the one with the red monogram. I have a girl and wanted neutral and I have enjoyed it. I also wanted something more compact this time around and it fits the bill. It hooks to the stroller as well and has two zip pockets on each side as well as the storage inside and the two pockets on the front. It also comes with a changing pad. I got mine from Target online, same price, but of course with the red card you get the discount and the free shipping!
Carrie says
I’m in love with the brown ‘leather’ bag – almost enough to wish I still need one! (No, not really…)
Christi says
I only have two who are 11 months apart and I took the advice of another mom and got a really nice Kate Spade backpack. I really needed something that would stay on my back when I bent over! It holds everything nicely and still looks cute!
Jen says
I like the stripes with the brown handles too!
I tried a traditional diaper bag from FEED. It was a super cute print, but always seemed over stuffed. I found this organizer on Amazon and it fits nicely in a tote bag, so now I use a Madewell leather tote, which makes me feel a little more stylish 🙂

Kendra Wright says
You’re about to have 2 toddlers, I think a traditional diaper bag isn’t necessary. I use a Jansport backpack which ideal because i don’t have to hold 2 bags while holding a child. And often times I put my purse (Armani exchange) in the backpack. And I often put whatever wipes/diapers I may need in my purse.
I’ve realized that when I’m in the moment, I throw things into my bag so that’s why I use a bag I can throw things into easily.
Amy says
I love my skip hop duo bag. It’s grey chevron though. Plenty of pockets, easy to clean, and it attaches to the stroller so you don’t need two bags. Unless you want two!

Hi!
Full disclosure, I have no kids and so, no need for a diaper bag. But if I needed an excuse to buy a larger tote/diaper type bag I would totally check out Foliage handbags on Etsy. I have one of her Quinn purses and I love it, it is so well made. I am not sure if her totes are big enough for your needs, but she has two kids in diapers and would be able to help you out. Plus, I bet she has some striped stuff.
Tanya says
So I don’t actually have a diaper bag …or diapers…or a kid… but I have searched and bought my fair share (and them some) of baby shower presents. And something like this always seems to be a hit:
https://www.lifeinplaycompany.com/
It allows you to use your existing totes – or even a man bag – and can change it up according to your outfit or needs
Sara says
I have the French Stripe Skip Hop bag (and only one child.) I like the look of it, and that it’s easy to wipe down if it gets dirty, and has a decent number of different pockets/compartments. However, I sometimes wish it had more space inside, and that’s with just one child. Also, the inside doesn’t have many pockets, so I often have to dig around to find what I’m looking for. So, not sure I’d recommend for multiple kids, depending on how much you carry around in it.
Ros says
I’m totally with you on higher-quality but fewer purses. I own 2, and they’re the only ones I’ve carried since I was 15 (I bought the second ’cause I needed something big enough to slide a laptop into it, otherwise I’d still be at 1). Sure, they’re 250$ each, but… over 15 years, that’s not so bad!
For diaper bags… the ones with white stripes are cute. NOPENOPENOPE. The second you put them on the ground, the bottom of a less-than-impeccable car, the floor of a restaurant, etc… that white is gonna look grimy. I dunno about you, but I want my diaper bag to be functional and to NOT worry about where I’m resting it. 🙂
We had the LLBean diaper bag with my first, and the strap didn’t hold out well at all (I just emailed them about it, actually), but having a plain black bag that can be carried by anyone and never gets visibly dirty was totally a selling point. I’m looking at that dude bag, actually… that’d be a semi-decent replacement option. My husband seriously didn’t want a ‘purse-looking’ bag (… obv) but we were actually pretty great about doing equal childcare, so he had it a lot of the time. Gender-neutral was pretty important for us.
Other option is to get a diaper bag insert (Etsy seems to have a bunch) and slide that into one of your purses (whichever one matches your outfit), and it can be slid into a tote bag or messenger bag for your husband just as easily.

I have the Skip Hop Duo (http://amzn.to/2eyEz9J) and it ROCKS. I had a different one with my first kiddo and it basically disintegrated. So I got this bag with my second kiddo. I love it! It has pockets on the outside the perfect size for my tea mug and a pocket on top for my phone. There’s even a ring on the side for my keys. Seriously, I’m never digging for anything important. It’s the best! There’s even a stripey one: http://amzn.to/2dJ9qvw

I originally had a black skip hop diaper bag that my husband was willing to also carry. Then I got a few different styles of Petunia Picklebottom. Super cute but honestly, I don’t love them as much as I would have expected. The first started to fray at the strap and because it’s wipeable, those areas peeled a bit. Another PPB bag has the most awkward strap that won’t even stay at the length I wanted. Annoying. I used those because I had paid so much money for them, but can’t say I love them. My currently go to bags are from Pottery Barn, I ordered a few colors of the same canvas bag with bottle pockets on each end. I am always carrying around a sippy cup of some sort. Something about the end pockets make it less diaper bag looking. I get compliments all the time, most people have no clue it’s a diaper bag. I keep my few items in little zippered bags from Thirty-One so I can easily and quickly toss my items into a smaller purse for date night. Otherwise, I just rotate the same bag in different colors per season. I’m about to switch form a gray/coral version into my navy/gray version. All your versions you picked are cute, but I really think the end pockets are less diaper ish! The front, side by side giant pockets are more obviously diaper bags. Good luck!

Don’t do Timi and Leslie. They don’t hold up and they don’t stand behind their products (2 zippers in 2 years, plus falling apart fabric). I’ve heard really good things about Ju Ju Be, but my dream bag is a Lily Jade- check them out! 😉

I invested in a super nice diaper bag and I’m disappointing in my decision.
I wish I would have bout myself a nice new – little bit larger everyday bag and a diaper bag insert vs. actual bag for a divider/organizer. I don’t carry two bags (purse and D bag) <—D Bag! Hahahaha! because 2 bags plus kids? No way.
Anyway – not to throw an annoying extra option out there but I did anyway. Also, I LOVE the stroller attachment thing… SO good.

I have Skip Hop Duo in multi colored striped and LOVE it! Plenty of pockets to keep things organized (LOL), and plenty of space for my one year olds needs, my wallet, sunglasses, keys…the five year olds water bottle, etc. Cleans up very easily and so far has proved very durable!

I have three boys aged four and under, and I recently got the Skip Hop Grand Central. It holds a ton, and all the pockets help keep it organized! Best of all, Skip Hop has a TEN YEAR warranty on diaper bags. So when the handles of my old bag started peeling, they gave me a credit and I was able to get my new bag completely for free. Great customer service, too – I am now a fan for life! 🙂
Katie Richards says
It’s not the classiest of diaper bags but we have the plain black Diaper Dude messenger bag and it has survived two kids in diapers and 4 years of abuse and looks as good as new. It has enough organization that I don’t lose stuff inside and my husband doesn’t refuse to carry it because it doesn’t look too girly. It’s a great bag!
Ashley says
Love ’em all! But as much as I love that timi & leslie brown leather one, I think you’ll regret it in the long run. Braided straps do not play nice on shoulders when the bag is full and heavy. I think you’ll find yourself getting more aggravated at how much it cuts into you, especially when wearing tank tops or where it could be on skin regularly. You definitely want something with a nice thick supportive strap! All of these bags are TOO cute and I can’t help you decide because there’s at least seven that I like. No matter what you choose, it’s bound to be cute!
Lindsey says
I love this post because I’ve been looking at diaper bags too, because I don’t have one even though my kids are 2 and 4! When my first was born we did buy the dude diaper bag, but eventually got rid of it because I didn’t love it and my husband doesn’t love carrying a diaper bag – he would rather fill the pockets of his cargo shorts with diapers and snacks!
Up to this point I’ve always put kid stuff in my large purse, swapping out my stuff for their stuff depending on where I’m going. I decided it would be better to have a dedicated bag to keep full of their stuff. For that reason I’d say “no” to the stroller bag – either you have to keep a second bag fully stocked or move things back and forth.
My favorites are the one with vertical strips or the light gray horizontal stripes with the pockets on the outside (but it would probably get very dirty fast). I think the cross-body strap option is a must!!
Barbara says
SkipHop bags are great – I love mine. You can also hang on on the stroller, it comes with a built in stroller strap! I also love that I can make the main strap short enough to use it as a shoulder bag, or long enough to use it cross-body style. Mine is the Dash, which is the smaller model, but it is fantastically well made!
Lauren says
I can’t say enough about Lily Jade diaper bags and the inserts that come with them (or can be bought separately to put in whatever bag you want). They’re definitely pricey, but they do have good sales. I loved so much, I continued to use it as an every day bag. Though I love the one I got (with hand straps and a cross-body strap), I recommend getting one that converts to a back pack, particularly for city moms who don’t have a car to plop it in.
Leah says
I had a JuJuBe diaper bag and I donated it after number 4 and I am SO sorry I got rid of it. I couldn’t bear to spend that amount of money on a new diaper bag for number 5 and now that she is 3 I just need to suck it up and potty train her. If I was going to do it all over again I would buy this one https://www.diapers.com/p/ju-ju-be-legacy-b-f-f-convertible-diaper-bag-first-mate-1179120?utm_source=Google&utm_medium=cpc_D&utm_content=pla&utm_campaign=GooglePLA&site=CA&sku=AJ-452&ca_sku=AJ-452&ca_gpa=pla&cvosrc=cse.google.AJ-452&cvo_crid=49550200537

We only buy Skip Hop bags (and they convert to stroller bags, so two-for-one!). We currently have their quilted bag and it has nice organizers but is also roomy enough to put random things in without worrying about fitting things into pre-designed pouches, etc. My husband also doesn’t mind carrying it since it doesn’t look “pursey”… but our son is the oldest and our two littles are girls, so he may simply be de-sensitized to overly girly items
Sarah says
I don’t recommend the hip cub one. I have one and one of the straps broke a couple of months after I bought it.

I had the same problem! I had a cap of $50 or so and did find a GAP bag I loved {that probably no longer exists}. I still use it for traveling even though I have no kids in diapers anymore because you can’t tell it’s a diaper bag and with all those little pockets it’s easy to organize for a plane. I get compliments on it all the time! I would look for one that has really wipe-able fabric on the outside, or you can spray it with scotch guard. That keeps it looking nice. I also liked that mine had metal feet so the bottom stayed cleaner. Another feature I enjoyed was having a zipper. The open ones never stayed as clean, plus since I use mine for traveling now, I can cram it in a packed car or in a plane compartment without having to be careful which end is up. Finally, since you aren’t done having kids, you want one that works well with both girls and boys. My first diaper bag was for our girl, and was girly in the extreme. Then I had two boys and I couldn’t just couldn’t bring myself to use it. That said, I love your choices! They would all be beautiful as bags later, plus they work for either gender. I was trying to pick a favorite and couldn’t.

I am a die hard Ju-Ju-Be fan, and I see you have one in the line up. Two words my dear Katie: machine washable. Like, for real. I have had many (an embarrassingly lot) of JJB bags and they’ve all washed up beautifully, multiple times. They’ve released some new bags/prints in the last week that seem very dude-friendly but still mama-stylish. I’ve never regretted a JJB purchase, the function to be had is just the best.
Kristen says
I have a Skip Hop – it holds up very well. Although it does not give at all – so kind of hard to cram stuff in there. My fav is a Vera Bradley one my mom got on clearance – I throw it in the wash and good as new! Plus light as a feather to begin with. Good to keep in mind- I hate when you START with a heavy purse before you even load all your stuff in!!

I have at least two more years of diapering because we don’t potty train until they are three (or if they decide to do it themselves earlier) and hopefully we will have another baby in the next couple years…I want at least one more so I think it’s not a bad decision to invest now, right?

Ok, so it isn’t striped, but I have the timi & Leslie “Charlie” bag and it is amazing! A friend of mine even bought one to have as her work bag because you can’t tell it’s a diaper bag and it’s so functional. I’ve had it for over a year and it doesn’t have a mark on it (and I am NOT careful with it, neither are my kids). I’m sure you’ll find something great : )

I had the striped Skip Hop bag and liked it (the stroller straps were amazing!). Once my son started walking/fighting the stroller, we switched to a backpack and it has worked out so well. My hands/arms are free and I still have room for his gear and ours.

I have a timi and Leslie diaper bag and it’s beautiful! Sort of a dark tealish navy color. I’ve had it for 2 years and get lots of compliments on it (it’s not the same style as the one pictured, but I don’t remember the name). We cloth diaper and it hold those well, but I also pack light generally. The outside is still in perfect shape and looks beautiful after 2 years, but there are pieces falling off of the lining on the inside. It’s not a major thing, and all the compartments are just fine, it’s just the lining is sort of sluffing off. I love a diaper bag that doesn’t scream diaper bag, and my timi and Leslie one fits that bill, for me! It was a super splurge on myself my first Mother’s Day when my sweet hubby forgot to even get me a card for that special day, ha! Hubbies!

I also have the SkipHop Grand Central, in the stripe pattern! It’s extremely well made and very wipe-able – both inside AND out! Haven’t noticed any problems with staining or anything, holds a TON of stuff if you need it to, attaches easily to stroller handles, and is generally an awesome diaper bag. Granted, this is my first ever with my first kid, but I honestly don’t think I’m gonna need to ever buy another one, no matter how many kiddos we end up having!
Also, if you go to BuyBuyBaby or BabiesRUs, you can totally use their big coupons to cut the price, which I don’t think I could do with the JujuBe that it came down to with for me. That was the kicker for me. Hope this helps!

It’s not fashionable, but I second the backpack suggestion. My smartest friend ever bought a super cute backpack with outside pockets for bottles/sippy cups. Her hands are completely free and she doesn’t having a giant bag hanging off her hip.
I have the skip hop gray and white bag. It’s held up great for 2 years, but I don’t find it that convenient to carry. It gets really bulky when filled, doesn’t hold that much, and gets really heavy carried on one side. Also, the buckle on the strap constantly slides down so I have to continually shorten it again…and again…and again…

Get a Lily Jade bag. You will not regret it!!! Made with genuine leather, super sturdy, room for everything, easy to clean, and very pretty. I splurged and got one with my second and it’s still going strong two years later and with number 3 on the way!!

From a practicality stand point I say go for a cute backpack. I have two boys and my hands are always full with everything else so I opted for a super cute Vera Bradley backpack! I love it, still carry my purse and have room to keep my hands free for the kids!

I know you have a million other options. But this non-traditional diaper bag has been amazing. It’s perfect for babies (so many compartments!) I keep the little travel diaper changing pad in one compartment and there’s plenty of room for a blanket, a hidden back up pacifier, snacks, and more. AND it’s man-friendly so my husband doesn’t mind wearing it. AND it’ll be functional post-baby. It’s perfect for an airport carry-on because everything is so handy. and it’s LIGHT weight.

With multiple little ones I love having a backpack to keep my hands free for maximum cuddling a.k.a child wrangling in Walmart They have some beautiful ones such a Timi and Leslie and Lily Jade. Made well, looks beautiful and easy to clean! Both make it easy to leave the kid things at home or with Nana and papa when you need and take your things with you quick! That way you only need one bag!

Also as for baby dad gear look into mission critical gear! Its like the holy grail for dads. Bad ass baby gear is all I can say! 🙂

We have 4 kids ages 7 and under. We have mostly used backpacks and they are perfect ( I have a bigger double pocket one for big days out with all 4 and smaller one for normal day to day). I need something that I can chase kids and have 2 hands free with nothing sliding off my shoulder and hitting the kids or falling on ground.

The skip hop duo bag is amazing-balls! Comfy on and so organized with pockets (with magnetic closures!). The pottery barn colab is so pretty with its blue and white stripes… Very washable too!

I just had my third boy back in February and also decided to finally get a real, grown up diaper bag. I ended up getting the Skip Hop duo French stripe and I LOVE it! I wish I would have found this bag with the first one. The stroller straps are amazing and I find I use them a lot. I also like that the strap is adjustable so I can lengthen it and use it cross body. Sometimes you just need to throw it on and go and not worry about it falling off your shoulder! The material is plasticy but I don’t think it feels cheap at all. I’ve been using it for 7+ months now and it doesn’t even look dirty and its the only bag I use so it’s not like I’m pampering it. I get a lot of compliments on it everywhere I go also. I found min online at Bed, Bath, and Beyond. It didn’t come with the monogramming but I got 20% off! 🙂

I was very happy with my JJ Cole diaper bag from Amazon. After 4 kids, I don’t “need” the diaper bag anymore, but I don’t want to part with it!

I’ve had a Lily Jade leather diaper bag for 2 years now and love it! It’s held up so well, looks like an oversized purse, and all their bags convert to messenger bags or backpacks. I never knew how much I would LOVE the backpack feature and use it all the time! They are pricey, but like you said, I would rather invest in one nice one than 10 cheap ones! I previously had a skip-hop bag but grew tired of the pattern quickly and didn’t feel like it held enough anyways.

April, I have that exact Timi and Leslie one pictured. I bought it what I realized how little the Skip Hop one held, and it lasted me 2 years and still looks amazing. I used it as my daily bag with the kiddo so I didn’t have to carry a purse and a diaper bag, so it definitely has taken a beating. I’m sorry your experience didn’t go well, but Timi and Leslie bags overall are very well made.
amandal says
The Timi and Leslie one you have pictured is amazing. I have had that one for 2 years, and I am just about to retire mine since my daughter seems to have mastered potty training. The braided straps are not uncomfortable, and the leather is very soft. I used it daily for 2+ years, and it still looks great. I previously had a SkipHop one, and if you are planning on using the bag as a purse as well (so you don’t have to carry 2), the SkipHop ones don’t have nearly enough pockets.
Tracy says
I have the Skip Hop bag and I LOVE IT.

Check out Maranda Lee on etsy! I bought her Stella diaper bag and had a zipper closure and cell phone pocket added. I love it!!! It’s machine washable and has o rings for stroller straps!

I love the navy and tan chevron one because it doesn’t really look like a diaper bag…. And seems like your style. You can use it after diapers too!
Megan says
My sister has the first black & white striped one and loves it. It’s huge, so it can be a little annoying for hauling around, but….it’s huge, so it holds every dang thing you need for two kids in diapers. Personally, I’ve been using the gray Champs-Elysees Petunia Pickle Bottom Boxy Backpack for 2.5 years and still love it. It’s smaller than the Skip Hop my sister has, but still has plenty of room for all the necessities and nice-to-haves. It worked great when I had two in diapers and isn’t too big now that only 1 is in diapers. I basically enever use the backpack straps (like maybe twice when we were on trips) but the messenger bag strap is perfect.

I have a black Tumi Calais backpack that is amazingly awesome (and holds a ton)! It’s super-pricey, but something more affordable like this might be the ticket…

I totally agree…we potty train at an older age as well unless they decide it’s time. And I have invested in a different styles. I tried one from Pottery Barn…not my fave. Tried Skip Hop…again, not my fave. Tried Petunia…close, but so much bulk. But I found my ‘diaper bag peace’ in Kelly Moore camera bags!
http://store.kellymoorebag.com/collections/shop-all/products/monroe
They don’t sell the one I use any more, but THIS bag is even better. It’s amazing. An investment, absolutely. But you can use it FOREVER! And it has a place for your camera!!
Make it your Christmas present to yourself, you deserve it 😉

I have that exact Skip Hop Grand Central (very recent splurge) and highly recommend it for the price. I had a smaller Skip Hop and Kate Spade bag (clearance find!) but needed a bigger bag as I’m expecting my second and still need to carry a lot of accessories for my preschooler (and myself). I hate having multiple bags to keep track of. I love that it’s a lightweight/wipe-able material, the strap is comfy, the stroller attachments work great and it’s so pretty. It’s also nice that it holds it’s shape whether you’re travelling light or have it jam-packed. So worth the price! I think it’s also reasonably dad-friendly!
Molly says
I have the grey and white Skip Hop one (ordered from Amazon) and really like it! It attaches to the stroller nicely, I like the easy-to-access outer pockets, the little changing pad is handy, and the interior has enough room for my baby gear.
Alyssa says
Ok, so here’s my thought process on this one…We had a skip hop bag for our first, I spent about $50 on it and we used it for a while. It was ok but the problem was how DEEP it was. It was the similar shape to a few you have above. The problem with a deep diaper bag is the same that you have with a deep purse. You loose things. And with kids, there ends up being a lot of little things that get lost in the bottom and then they get dirty and then they stink!! So…my first piece of advice is find something short and wide, sort of like your purses up there. Next, something machine washable. I didn’t click on all of the links above, but I would check on that. You know as well as I do that it’s bound to get nasty in there, tossing it in the machine is the best thing you can do. Next…after we stopped using the skip hop, I saw a bunch of people using that thirty-one bag…I think it’s called their utility tote? Well at the time they didn’t have one that closed, it was just an open top but the outside pockets are what got me. I LOVED them, they fit sippy cups, were a great place to stash the keys when you are going in and out of places, the side net pockets were perfect for a wipe if you used it on hands and faces and didn’t have a trash nearby. A little while after we used that one they came out with the same bag and it had a zipper top so it was finally able to close. We bought that one too. I am not usually a fan of thirty-one. I had some issues with their products, but never those utility totes. Maybe it’s the organizing tote? Something like that….but anyway, they have some pretty cute patterns, ones my hubby never minded carrying and they fit in the stroller no problem. If we didn’t have room below we always kept a carribeaner (SP??) on the stroller for other bags and we would just clip the diaper bag onto that. Anyway, not that I think you have to have the thirty-one bag and no I do not sell it or know anyone who does, but those are my opinions on the diaper bag matter 😉
Rachel Baddorf says
I don’t carry a diaper bag anymore. I keep a little pouch in my purse for diapers and wipes. And keep one or two snacks in it as well. That’s it. What is there to put in a diaper bag after they are out of bottles?

I haven’t had a kid in diapers for a long time (over 5 years!), but we still use the Skip Hop Duo as an overnight bag or carry on bag. I have washed it several times and it still looks good. Wish I had bought it earlier!

Have you thought about getting a diaper backpack? It’s hands free and way more comfortable then an over the shoulder bag.
Jennifer W. says
I’ve heard great things about Lily Jade bags. I had a skip hop and it was pretty nice and functional! This time around I found a non-diaper bag from kohls that looks like a sorta big handbag but serves the purpose! My biggest thing is pockets! The more the better!
Rebekah says
I had the skip hop grand central and it was great especially with its stroller straps! It started to rip a little on the pocket though, but they gave me store credit for a warranty replacement so now I have the skip hop backpack which is awesome. I got tired of hitting my kids in the head with the bag that inevitably fell off my shoulder when I bent down to hold hands…
Amanda | Love & Renovations says
I have the SkipHop french stripe one and don’t recommend it – you’ve got several on here that are the SkipHop ones with the same shape, and there just isn’t enough room. It’s SO compartmentalized, which is great, but the center area has almost no room. I only have one and felt like I was always out of space – I will be buying a different bag when we have our second.
Kat says
I have (and love) my Kate Spade Stevie diaper bag. If you hunt the sales at Kate Spade outlet you can get them for under $150 (how I got mine!) They have a black and white stripe one if that is what you like!
AJ says
I have the skip hop French stripe. I’ve had it for almost two years and it looks great still. It mostly sits in the car and gets pulled out occasionally when needed. It is wipe able fabric and has lots of good pockets. If you are one to carry around tons of stuff, it might not work. It’s not huge. It holds what I need for one kid easy, but could be pushing it for two. The built in stroller clips are super handy if you need that feature.
AJ says
Oh, and I forgot, unless you are wanting it personalized from pb, they have deals on amazon and other places all the time for much cheaper.

I really like the skip hop bags. I own the duo as well as a backpack from skip hop. They’re great!

My splurge with my second was a Lily Jade bag. I saw that they recently redesigned the bag inserts which after 9 months was my biggest complaint. They have the outlet on there website to make them a little cheaper. Customer service was great as well.

Such pretty bags! The Skip Hop ones seem really nice and stripes are always classy. A lot of my friends with 4+ kids use the backpack style bags and it looks cute and sporty. My last bag was pricey but beautiful, it wiped cleaned and held up great. It was by Kalencom (New Orleans) and Ozz style and the are really nice and stylish. Good luck!

Backpack functionality is life changing. I was always hitting my kid in the head with my cross-body whenever I would bend down. Now I love being hands free AND stylish. I love love LOVE my fawndesign.com bag. Chic and so functional.

I have that JuJuBe SuperBe bag, as well as a Diaper Dude bag. The SuperBe is BIG, and hold a lot! Downside is that it doesn’t have interior pockets to keep stuff separated (just a couple small zipper pockets). I use a couple of the JJB Be Set small bags for organizing things like diapers, wipes, and small items (pacis, small snacks, Etc), and that works great. Although, I’d like to suggest an alternate style called the BFF: it’s less sleek, but way more functional. It can be crossbody or backpack style, has tons of interior pockets, and it opens in such a way that both prevents stuff from falling out. And makes it really easy to find what you need. Noatter which JuJuBe bag you buy, what I love about them is that they are completely washable! Just toss it in your washer, then air dry! And so cute! As for the Diaper Dude bag… Got it for my hubs (so yes, we have two… Actually 3 diaper bags for one child). It holds a lot, but like the SuperBe doesn’t have interior pockets. It comes with stroller clips so it’s super easy to attach to the handlebar! Honestly, buy both. You won’t regret it. 🙂
AndreaJ says
Also, I forgot to say that I have a crossbody style of that JuJuBe print (First Lady, the wide black and white stripes) and it’s beautiful and cleans well. The gold hardware is so pretty, too! You can probably tell I’m a big fan of JuJuBe bags. They are well worth the investment!
Rachel says
I’ve had the gray and white stripe Skip Hop bag for two years and it’s been great. The outside is a laminated fabric so it stays fairly clean and wipes up well. Just recently a dumb dumb got wet inside the bag and I had a huge purple spot that showed on the outside, so I threw it is the wash and let it air dry and it’s looks almost new. The only part that shows wear is the strap, but even that isn’t too noticeable and I think will hold up for a while longer. I have 3 kids aged 5,3, and almost 2, so it’s been used a lot.

I was given two diaper bags as guts, but I actually ended up using my Lug Promenade Tote that I used to carry to work. It fits everything I need. Mine is in black. I think it looks nice when I’m out and about as it doesn’t stand out and just looks like I’m carrying a tote. I sometimes even dump my wallet, keys and cell in it so that I don’t have to carry two bags. 🙂

From your list above I’d choose the brown leather one because it looks more like a purse or nice bag instead of a diaper bag.

I love my Skip Hop Duo. Having the stroller straps is really essential and it has held up very well over the past three years. I like the canvas type materials best because you can wash them. After several milk spills, I am glad I didn’t get a leather one! We are having another baby and I am going to get a Skip Hop backpack style since I will need my hands free with two, so something to consider with your toddlers. They have a chic black one on Amazon…
Sarah says
I have the black and white stripes with brown handles one from Amazon and I L.O.V.E. it. It’s so roomy, and I love that it doesn’t scream “look! There’s diapers in here!!” I recently had to wash it, and it held up really well. The stroller straps weren’t that great, but I prefer my Mommy Hook anyway. We have three – 7. 5, and 3. Our 3-year-old is in the stage where she still has accidents and sleeps in pull ups, so we always have to have spare outfits and pull-ups, just in case. I actually love this bag so darn much I wrote a 3,000 word love story about it if you want to check it out:

So my favorite is the petunia pickle bottom sashay satchel (mine is embroidered navy bc I love navy). I love that it can be worn as a tote over my shoulder but can convert to a backpack. I also love that you can buy stroller straps that stay affixed to stroller and then you just clip it right to the stroller when needed. I use just a purse with a zipper pouch for diapers for everyday BUT I kept this bag to take on vacations and places when I want a backpack option!!!!! I love skip hop brands too and stripes sing to my soul!!! Love you blog…have a great day!!!

I also bought one of these off Amazon & used it in several totes depending on what I needed to carry that day so I wasn’t pinned to one bag. #fashionpriorities

I second this. I have the Madeline in black leather. Totally worth the cost. The red insert organizer is great and you can wear it cross body or convert it to a backpack. It also doesn’t look like a diaper bag so you can use it as a purse, laptop bag etc.

I love the brown faux leather and the bold chevron stripes. My kids came to me well past the age of needing a diaper bag so I’ve never used one. My opinion is based solely on looks so take my it with a grain of salt. Functional is way more important than looks. You’re a busy momma and don’t have time for a subpar diaper bag!

Longtime nanny here who has used a ton of diaper bags…I love the monogrammed Lands End canvas boat totes! Virtually indestructible, classic, gender neutral and can be used forever without looking like it was made for baby stuff. I always found too many pockets distracting and just like to package like items in individual pouches. The nylon JuJuBe wristlet is great for diapers and wipes. I stored extra clothes in a wet bag or ziplock (great as emergency storage for dirty diapers, leaking sippy cups or wet/dirty clothes/shoes). Good luck!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Kate Spade Stevie Diaper Bag! I have the black & white polka dots but there is also a black & white striped version. I’ve gotten 3 of them (one for me, two for friends) on Amazon for around $200 each. I know that is a little more than you were looking to spend, but it is very well made, excellent size for 2 kids, lots of pockets, stroller straps, etc. Good luck with your search 🙂

I started out with a Skip Hop Duo with my first…and hated it. It was super Deep and hard to find things. Then I got the Duo. Super wide, and hard to find things. Then, I just went with our Diaper Dude and that was that. Then, once I just needed basics, I put it in a kid back pack and called it a day. With our second, I carried around the Diaper Dude the most. Now with #3 on the way, I’ll either do the same or buy a Lily & Jade.

I got a Thirty One bag as a baby gift and it’s worked out PERFECTLY for my daughter as a diaper bag. She is almost 2 1/2 years old and it’s still in great shape! It’s not technically a diaper bag but its the perfect size. Carry it daily to daycare and there’s zero frays on it. ZERO! Easy to clean and great quality! And the price is fantastic 🙂 Tons of little pockets on the outside for a quick grab and go. No digging! Hope this helps. Or apologies if I’ve made the decision harder haha

Skip Hop Grand Central looks like a great bag with all the compartments, plus it looks like a handbag plus it could make a great bag after you no longer need it as a diaper bag. I vote for this one.
Cara says
As a fellow boy mom, I would strongly recommend the Skip Hop French Stripe bag. I have had several diaper bags (some expensive designer ones too) but this one is by far my favorite. Cleans up easily, durable, and carries a metric ton of crap. Plus is has so many compartments so I can separate my items from the kids making it easy to use the small zip section on the front as my “purse” and the rest to throw in kids stuff. Also, as someone else noted the magnetic pockets in the front are killer for throwing in little ninja turtles, pacis, trucks, and a cell phone. 🙂 I also have the diaper clutch that matches this bag because I liked it so much.
Cassidi says
I actually own the Timi and Leslie diaper bag and used it for years with my daughter! I love that it looks like a purse, it’s easy to clean (just wipe down with a damp cloth), comes with handy accessories (hello wet bag and changing mat), not to mention the mama wristlets purse (which I still use daily). But what I really loved about it was how wide the top opened, it makes packing it and then finding things super easy! Plus all the pockets make it easy to stay organized! I’ve since upgraded to a Lily Jade (thanks hubby for the amazing present) and while I didn’t know I ever could, I do love it even more!!! Mostly because the interior bag organizer is removable and the one I got converts to a backpack!! Being able to distribute the wait and have two free hands has been a life saver!! Hope this helps!! I can’t wait to see what you choose!

I love it. It lives in the back of our car. Recheck the contents from time to time. Have diapers, wipes and antibac gel in a Ziploc bag. Then a couple of books and toys. It’s more than generous on space. When we get out, I toss it in the bottom of the stroller. I have a separate little backpack for a normal diaper bag.
Kristen S. says
I absolutely hated the diaper bag that I had registered for with my first child over six years ago, so when I got pregnant last year, I knew that a diaper bag was something totally worth splurging on since we use it so often the first few years.
We went with the Ju-Ju-Be BFF in the Admiral print, and haven’t looked back! I love the fun prints available with all JJB styles, and they are so easy to clean. There is a crumb drain in the actual bag so that crumbs don’t collect in the bottom. I repeat…CRUMB DRAIN.
It’s organized so that you can see everything in the bag at once vs. having to dig through a deeper tote bag. It has SO MANY POCKETS to help organize the various things like socks, diaper cream, hand sanitizer/sanitizing wipes, etc. Also, it has longer straps to carry as a shoulder or crossbody, and backpack straps (which my husband uses all the time)! Lastly, you can buy separate hooks that you affix to the stroller so it easily hooks on and off.
It’s just LOVE.

The Timi and Leslie one is to die for. I wouldn’t hesitate to keep using that as a purse after diaper days were done.

I have the skip hop grand central, which is the second one in the list and it is amazing. It’s actually the second diaper bag I’ve had. The first one went back after one use and I couldn’t be happier with my new choice. It has so many pockets and I love the different storage options. There is one big pocket that zips close and two on either side they snaps. This bag seriously holds so many things.

Yes on this 31 bag. I have one I use for church with my Sunday school supplies. It has 5 pockets on the outside that fit sippy cups and my water bottle, and 2 mesh pockets on either end. Totally waterproof and had held up really well, and I probably carry 30lb of stuff in it every week. I just stick my purse inside it to take to church. Just one big pocket inside so you have to be careful with organization.

Another vote for the Kate Spade Stevie bag! I have had mine for almost 4 years and 2 kids and it is still in excellent condition. It’s wide enough to fit all of our stuff, wipe able and stylish. My big vote goes for the diaper dude. It’s not as pretty and feminine but I’m a big fan of any diaper bag that is a backpack style. I found that once they start walking, any other bag was just going to fall off my shoulder or be cumbersome in a million ways. The backpack lets me keep everything I need without stressing over trying to keep it from falling off me. Please do a post on your purses, like what brands you like, where you get them, etc. I’m ready to start buying nice purses that hold up longer than 2 months and I have no idea where to start.

The Legacy First Lady bag by Jujube is my vote. I have a Jujube BFF bag & LOVE it. I wanted that one because of the detachable backpack straps. I was worried when I got it that it wouldn’t be big enough but all of the inner organization makes it work so much better than larger open bags. I have a 7 month old & a 4 1/2 year old. I use pocket diapers at home & disposables when we’re out but have no problem fitting up to 6 pockets in there when I need to in addition to all the regular stuff you need in a diaper bag. I am also type 1 diabetic & carry all of my stuff in there. We regularly have snacks, juice boxes, my testing kit, my wallet, a light blanket, plastic ring toys or teethers, diapers & wipes, hand gel, an extra set of clothes for my son in a Ziploc bag, my daughter’s water bottle & mine. It cleans up really easily with a wash cloth & soap or a couple of Clorox wet wipes when needed. The shoulder strap is really comfortable & I haven’t had any issues with back pain using it as a cross-body bag. The hardware is all metal & I see this bag being very durable. Mine is navy & tan striped. Very stylish. I love it & can picture myself using it as a carry-on after my babies are big.

I was going to recommend Lily Jade as well although the full leather ones are well over the purse price range you listed (even buying used you’re looking at the $200-$300 range depending on the style). I think you can definitely justify the investment given the quality, functionality, and how many littles you have, especially if you plan to bring more littles into your family. Also, they don’t look like diaper bags, so even though I don’t have any in diapers right now, I’m still rocking my LJ on a daily basis because I just love it so much. They also do a lot of giveaways through blogs, so I’d be surprised if you couldn’t arrange for them to provide you with one to review and one to give away.

I’ve worn out 3 skip hop bags with 3 kiddos, and couldn’t be happier! They have an awesome mix of function and style, and hold up soooo well.
AmberF says
I would vote the Diaper Dude. I tried a TON of diaper bags and this was always the most convenient. I have gifted the Diaper Dude to two other friends and both have ended up using that bag instead of their designer diaper bags. It’s so functional!!

Have the SkipHop Grand Central – that thing is huge, I’ve kept it to use as a carry on or overnight bag for myself. Los of space, almost too much since I was losing everything so I got some clear pouches to corral smaller items. Has held up well and that is with me foregoing the instructions and putting it in the washer on the delicate cycle (Samsung washer, came out squeaky clean, air dry) it also has side straps that allow you to hang it from a stroller, but be careful, I’ve had it so loaded down, when taking son out of the stroller, the bag has tipped the stroller. But I would purchase again.

Okay, so as a mom of only 2 I can’t say I relate to your particular needs, but after having one you understand how little you truly need to get by. I had a SkipHop for my first baby and it was entirely too heavy for daily use. I then bought a Vera Bradley quilted diaper bag which was wonderful, but oh so hideous! The second time around I still used the VB bag but I left it in my trunk and often times just grabbed a diaper and wipe pouch to bring into a store with me in my purse. I also had a great diaper wallet (made by diaper genie) which held a change of clothes, multiple diapers and wipes, and a changing pad all in one. It was amazing. After that, I bought a toddler SkipHop backpack (the unicorn) and the kids can easily carry that themselves or I leave it in the car 99% of the time.

Hi! I have 4 kids around the same ages as yours. My first bag was a SkipHop. It was okay. When I was pregnant with my fourth I purchased a Kate Spade (black and white stripe) second hand. I would recommend it. It is really nice and has held up well. I have also put it in the washer on the handwash cycle (which is probably not recommended), but it survived and still looks new. It has several pockets inside and out. Although, I am not a pocket person and I tend to pack necessities in other ziplock bags and etc and throw everything into the big opening of the bag. My favorite part of the bag is that it just looks like a nice oversized handbag. Not a “mom purse”. 🙂

Agree about Ju-Ju-Be! We have the BFF (messenger style or small backpack) and the Be Right Back larger backpack. BFF is sup[er versatile and comes in stripes! https://www.ju-ju-be.com/nautical/

Almost all of those would be great choices, but anything oil cloth or another easy clean material would be my first choice. And while they are a little more expensive, the Kelly Moore Photography bags would also make a great choice and could be used later for camera gear. As a mom and photographer, you can’t go wrong there. 🙂 http://kellymoorebag.com/

I’m a mom to 3 (5,7,9) and I own the dude bag!! I originally bought for my husband – but quickly took it over! I LOOOOVE it! I used the seam ripper to take off the dude logo -(just didn’t like it and I’m not a dude!) but that bag is amazing! Clearly, my three are out of diapers, but that bag is my go-to bag if we’re going to the zoo, Disney, road trips, pumpkin patches, etc. It holds a ton! I love the three separate front pockets – and I love that it’s a crossbody and it lays nicely when carrying it. Also, because it’s solid black – my husband doesn’t think twice about slinging it over his shoulder! Oh – and you can throw it in the wash when it gets dirty! Dude bag all the way!
Anna says
I have a Timi & Leslie bag that I adore. It’s not that one, but the Charlie. I love that it’s gargantuan and looks so classy, but it is definitely heavier item. It’s not great for lugging all over all the time, but it holds everything and I love using it when I travel. It’s also something you can easily use as a non-baby bag.
I really like that Urban Mom bag, too.

Fashionable, ethically made, unisex, water-repellent, main compartment opens all the way up for easy unpacking… wear it as a backpack, carry it as a tote, clip it onto your stroller… What’s not to love about the Storq carryall?

I have both the timi&leslie one and the skip hop duo. I love the timi&leslie for dressing up and going out but in reality I just don’t love the functionality of the bag for everyday use. It is super deep and I get frustrated looking for the things I need with a bag hanging off my shoulder and a kid on the changing table. I use the skip hop duo for daily use and LUV it….

I have the big black and white skip hop bag, and I like it ok. I did buy a crossbody strap off amazon, because that is the one thing it was missing. It just seems too big and bulky for my needs. I am now trying to find a cute/functional backpack. I only have one kiddo, so I don’t need to carry too much, and I end up losing my stuff in this bag. Too many pockets for me.
Sarah Kate says
I vote no on the Diaper Dude (my husband got one but it’s not well laid out and so we never used it). I love Skip Hops bags personally. I don’t carry a diaper bag anymore as my kids are 3 and 5 and out of diapers but I do miss having a bag with cup holders, so I’d definitely prioritize that in your search!
Amberle S says
I like the blue and white in the top right corner. Before you buy look at the JJ Cole Diaper bags as well. They hold up really well, you can get them for a great price online, and most of them come with straps to attach it to the stroller like the one you posted above.
This one is my absolute fav! :

I have that SkipHop bag in a chevron print. Love it.
And don’t worry about the mess – it washes very nicely, I put mine in the machine

I LOVE my lily jade. Like LOOOOOVE it. Definitely expensive but worth it. I have the Elizabeth in camel, but!!! They just came out with gray leather with the prettiest turquoise interior. It has a removable insert with a jillion pockets and I have seen a lot of moms who no longer need to use it as a diaper bag use it as a camera bag, or just a regular hand bag.
Stephanie says
Get a Lily Jade diaper bag ! I love mine. There are tons of diff styles and the backpack feature is awesome !

I used a Skip Hop Duo Bag for 3 years and honestly, I hated it! I got it as a gift from my mum and felt guilty for not using it. But 3 years is enough…… -_-
The main compartment has a magnetic closure, so things fall out all the time when it’s full (I only store basic stuffs for 2 kids – diapers, change of clothes, water bottles, food warmers etc). It’s worse when I wear it on my shoulder and bend down to carry my kid. Frustrating.
After much research, I recently splurged on an ANELLO backpack, it was AWESOME!! It comes with a secret side zipper for me to get my nursing cover without having to search for it from the top zipper! You should check it out 🙂 🙂

I used and LOVED the French Stripe one. I got tons of compliments on it and it was easy to wipe down to clean.

Tory Burch tote!!! I have several diaper bags and never went back after using my TB tote.

You picked some fabulous choices! I would say that my main thing would be that the inside has to be wipeable. I’m always shoving things in there and a fabric interior doesn’t work. I have a pricey $200+ Petunia Picklebottom and the inside is fabric – which, for that price? Ugh. I also have a Coach one that you can wipe down the whole inside – perfect. And it’s black and white stripes, so I clearly dig your vibe.
This is rambling and not making any sense because it’s way too early here. I love them all and can’t wait to see what you choose!

While it is not the prettiest, we bought a Diaper Dude bag when my youngrst son was born (yes my husbands pick :)) and I’d buy 10 more (if we were having more). Well made, sturdy, and lots of space. I REALLY wanted something pretty but gave in to my husband and got the Diaper Dude and haven’t regretted it. In refer pretty, but practical isn’t all that bad either! 🙂

I also prefer to make sense….last sentence, “I prefer pretty!” Lol oy vey!

I loved my skip hop bag! Our diaper bag saw extensive action and it held up like a boss. The smaller straps/buckles for attaching to stroller handles were a fantastic feature.

My Timi and Leslie fell apart (like, handles unravelling) in under 18 months. I was SUPER disappointed because I ALMOST picked a coach diaper bag and went with the Timi and leslie thinking the wipeability would =durability and it looked awful from 1 year and beyond…
I would stear clear of that choice
Jessica Cooper says
Does Jeremy plan on using the same bag? If so, a lot of these look like ladies hand bags. Super cute, but super girly too. I think the man bag (duh!) and the navy blue polka dot ones look least purse-like.
Christina says
I have three in diapers and have two from Pottery Barn kids (same bag, just two different sizes). The larger of the two hasn’t kept its shape and is hard to clean… and it is a little over a year old. I only use the smaller one for quick trips or when I am out with only one of the kids, but I can see it doing the same as I use it more.
Jackie says
I have the Hip Cub one and the Skip Hop one. The Hip Cup one has not held up well at all. The Skip Hop one is ok but very diaper bag-y and not very purse-y. I really wish I had shelled out a couple hundred for the Ju Ju Bee BFF or a Kate Spade instead of buying several $50-$70 ones!
Jackie says
No stripes on this one but I have several friends who love this bag. It can be a backpack for the dads too.

I love the black and cream with monogrammed K. But honestly, I have a LilyJade bag and they are amazing!!! Check them out before you buy another one. They have a removable liner with 16 pockets. 16! Plus many of the designs convert to cross body and a backpack. I also have 4 kids and I use mine all of the time. LilyJade

At this stage I would not buy a diaper bag anymore especially if you already carry a purse. I’d just buy a larger tote and use that for both. I personally never understood why people carried a purse and a diaper bag. In the beginning stages I’d just throw my stuff in the diaper bag but now it’s the other way round. I’d just keep stuff in the trunk of the car.
Heather Stephenson says
If you could get that striped one that looks…heathered? (With the K monogram) But if you could get that one with a brown leather handle that would be perfection in my mind!
Carmil Mullaney says
I love you Katie, love your DIY tips, home decor, photography, and many other things….. but Katie…. your diaper bag choices have left me scratching my head!
Here’s the criteria: has to be able to handle lots of dirt and stains, must hold 2 bottles and assorted other goods, and…. CANNOT look like a diaper bag. Based on that criteria, I only like the navy and tan chevron bag. I will say, the $250 that I laid out for one 10 years ago did not go to waste…. that bag functioned as a great tote for 5 years after babies.
Also, you don’t spend that much on yourself, so I say…. spend the wad on a GREAT diaper bag.
Just sayin…….

I bought my sister a nice diaper bag as a gift when she found out she was expecting baby #2 and was going to cloth diaper, because before she had just used a random small backpack and that wasn’t going to cut it.
http://us.soyoung.ca/collections/charlie-bags
I got her a charlie diaper bag from so young and she loves it! I threw in the special strap that attaches to the stroller and it’s been a hit. It’s durable, has plenty of pockets for organization, a cool pocket to keep milk/juice cold, cleanable, and her husband doesn’t mind carrying it either. Might check it out!

I have to second my adoration of the Jujube. There is NO other brand to consider. It is the most mom-intuitive bag I have seen. I have owned three and LOVE them all. My favorite style for 2 in diapers in the BFF. Now I only have 1 in diapers and I still use my BFF because it holds everything I could possibly fit into it – rain coats, jackets, hats and gloves, snacks, drinks and whatever else you could think of. They have some really cute prints that fit into the looks you shared here – First Lady and Black Magic are stripes and Black Diamond and The Empress are awesome geometric prints. I don’t work for jujube or anything, I am just a die hard mama fan! http://www.shop.ju-ju-be.com/b-f-f/

I had a timi and Leslie and while I loved it for 1-1.5 years, it is totally falling apart (I have been carrying it for 3 years, but should have retired it after 2 years)
I just purchased a Lily Jade diaper bag (haven’t received it yet). It is real leather and has an awesome insert that will allow you to continue to carry it as a purse when it no longer needs to be a diaper bag. most of them convert to bookbags too. They are pricey.
Sarah C. says
I love Skip Hop. They have a fabulous LIFETIME warranty. I’d go with the Grand Central Skip Hop bag. I love that Skip Hop bags come with the stroller hooks already there so they’re easy to just clip on. I am not a huge fan of the Duo model though because of the size (I have 2 kids, 1 in diapers and 1 potty training) and the inability to zip closed. We’ve had more than one incident with ointment/cream that was left in the main compartment that only had a magnetic closure. We have the Skip Hop Forma and I love it so much I might consider paying full price for it (I got it from a local resale group for $5, score!).
Ruth says
I seriously just debated many of the same bags. Ended up getting the Storksak Elizabeth. Real leather…beautiful. Pricey but got it next to new om ebay for under $100! Been loving it!!
Gretchen says
I got a super pretty Skip Hop bag for my current baby and love almost everything about it…in the two exterior pockets, I put the diapers and the wipes. But I was SOOOO disappointed when the plastic coating started peeling after only 3 months. I don’t know if it’s because with those heavy diapers and wipes on the outside, it makes a crease and pulls on the finish in a funny way or what. Wouldn’t recommend their brand based on quality issues.
Sara Davis says
I’m in the middle of a diaper bag dilemma right now so I was very excited to see your post/read these comments. I have one of those Skip Hop Signature bags (a few like you posted) and I’m really disappointed. The handles are leather but have already fallen apart after 7 months of use. The material of the bag is easy to wipe but it is doing something fading and tearing apart. I’d for sure stay away from those plus I can’t fit much in it or it is hard to get anything out. Good luck! Do let us know what you end up with!
Christine says
As cute as some of them are, I’m not a fan of skip hop! I had mine for less than a year and the interior pockets ripped at the seams. :/
Sarah says
Katie, you have to look at JuJuBe diaper bags–they come in several styles depending on the size you want, they are attractive (and come in a variety of prints), and most important, THEY ARE WASHABLE! Because seriously, all kinds of nasty things can happen to diaper bags… I’ve had one for over two years, and I still love it and get compliments on it. https://www.ju-ju-be.com/
Sarah says
Another YES to JuJuBe!!!
Jenna says
I have the grey ad white vertical stripes one and have been pleased for the most part!! It is cute and has lots of pockets so I can keep myself organized in there. It is not a fabric that would get dirty easily. Ours gets dragged around everywhere and I haven’t noticed it being dirty. The one thing I do wish is it were a Hari bigger. We use cloth diapers which take up more room than the disposable so I sometimes find myself wanting a bit more space. But i dont know how much you carry with you! Overall, I love it!!
Candace says
I’m going to second a backpack-convertible bag. Seriously. You’re chasing 4 kids and probably carrying one. This leaves the most mobility.
Lily Jade is super popular & looks great
I have a Fawn Design bag and LOVE IT! It’s huge – like, “can carry cloth diapers and accessories” huge.

I cannot say enough wonderful things about my Ju-Ju-Be BFF diaper bag! There are many patterns- a couple different stripe options if that is where you are leaning. It’s amazing and comes with a removable shoulder bag strap or backpack straps. Backpack style is a game-changer!

I echo everyone’s comments about Lily-Jade. I actually just bought their insert and use it in a normal tote. It’s the best. I love being able to switch out handbags with my mood, outfit, or the season. The Lily-Jade insert allows me to use whatever bag I want while providing lots of pockets for organization. It’s awesome!

I had the top Skip Hop bag in black. It had a pattern but was all black. I loved it. The stroller attachments, the pockets, the zippered top. Only downfall is it was heavy because it could hold lots of stuff! I got mine at Babies R Us for like $30-$40 so don’t think the online price is the price, and I used a coupon. I have an 18 month old (& 5yo) and we went with a backpack. Sometimes I wish it had more organization than one big pouch but it works. Also, I keep a plastic shoebox size container in my car with a few extra diapers, wipes, bandaids, change of clothes for both kids. That way I’m hopefully never in a bind.
Danielle Miller says
I have the black and white striped one and i LOOOOOVE it. My sister has a blue and white striped one that a lot of my friends have. What I prefer about hers is that while it looks super stylish it also made of fabric that has kind of an oil cloth on top so it is EASY TO WIPE OFF.
My canvas bag is nice, but not so easy to wash. My only regret about it. Also, it kind of gets overstuffed since we have to put 5 hours worth of cloth diapers in it.

I have the Skip Hop Duo in black and white stripes at the recommendation of a friend. I really don’t like it. I have 4 kids too (all girls), and my youngest 2 are still in diapers. It really does not hold enough for 2 kids that may need a change of clothes, my crap (keys, wallet, snack), 2 sizes of diapers, wipes, snacks, and everything else that goes along with needing a diaper bag for 2. I feel like I just end up having to pull everything out to find one thing because everything falls into the abyss at the bottom of the bag. I’ve had 3 different diaper bags, and really haven’t liked any of them. I wish I had gone with one of the solid color quilted Vera Bradley ones!
Emily aka The Three Bite Rule says
I have a Skip Hop (the French Stripe you have towards the end). Honestly I don’t think it holds that much, and I have one babe. I think I’d next go for the inserts into another tote. Without bringing the whole house, it seriously fits about 4 diapers, wipes, a cup, a bib, and a maybe a spare shirt…that’s about it. I like that the strap can be long enough to be a cross body. 1 shoulder doesn’t seem convenient with a toddler for me!
Tirsa says
Have you looked at the Henry Bendel Jesetter convertible backpack? Considering that your youngest is already more than a year old, this could be a good option. There are some good reviews on youtube of this bag. On sale right now + coupon = good price. 🙂

I actually have the 2nd one (blue with polka dots), I feel so hip! It’s great, I need a lot of pockets in my bags and I don’t want them so deep that everything gets lost. looks like you have lots of good options, but I do recommend the bag I have!

I’ve used a Patagonia mini messenger and Kavu tote.. and then I won a Lily Jade bag- omg. Toss the rest. It’s amazing. I have the Elizabeth- it has handles, a cross body strap, and converts to a backpack carry. It’s beautifully made. It comes with a removable “baby bag” with a zillion pockets to organize everything under the sun. You can even buy just the baby bag and put it in a bigger tote if you just need some more organization. Definitely worth a look. I have leather, but they also make some beautiful canvas versions, outlet bags, and periodic sales. 🙂

I have four children (7 1/2, 6, 4, 2) and although I have only one occasionally in diapers, I still keep an extra shirt for each for unexpected disasters (like when ice cream falls off of the cone…). I have had a Vera Bradley weekender for the entire span of time & it is still looking brand new, despite frequent washes. I just remove the stabilizing bottom, wash on cold & line dry overnight (though I have dried it when in a rush). I also have a large VB tote I use for the library which is shockingly strong for our haul of books! I’ve never had a book bag last so long!
I’d go with this option again, because they are so indestructible, EASY to care for, fold up into a wisp when empty, & my kids like it for the exterior pockets they can tuck all of their finds in during our adventures. Good luck & happy hunting!

I totally ordered the gray and white stripe bag by hip club on Amazon after seeing this post. I had made myself a bag to use as a diaper bag after our third baby arrived, but it just wasn’t cutting it. So this post was great timing for me – thank you! And I love the bag that I ordered!

Hi Katie — I’m late to this party as I’m hardly ever on the computer these days looking at blogs (add reading blogs to the list of things that went by the wayside for me after baby #4…ha!) but yours is one I come back to when I do have some time. Anyhoo, I’m just seeing this post and you’ve probably already found a solution but if not you may want to check out Better Life Bags — they have a GREAT cause, PLUS you’d get a beautiful, high quality bag that will hold up well…also, they have stripes…or you can go crazy and design your own with pretty florals or what have you. Thought I’d pass it along, better late than never I suppose. https://betterlifebags.com/ Oh, it may be a higher price point than what you would normally want but thinking of it as giving those ladies a life would help me be open to spending the extra — I actually don’t even have a BLB yet but have contemplated it for awhile now…maybe this christmas it will happen! 😉 P.S. sorry if I’m reapeating if someone has already metioned this — no time to read back through the comments…again with the 4 *little* kids…I know you get that for sure!
Ashley says
I would be inclined to go for the leather or a jujube bag. The others are super cute, but I’ve gone through way too many diaper bags to learn that most of those cheaper options will fall apart. I have seams pulling apart and handles falling off my old ones.
Brittany says
I’ve been going through the same process!
Currently I use a BittyKids bag, on its own if I don’t need much, but usually in another bag. The Bitty Kids bag which is small and you load wipes into makes them ready wihenever I need them with one hand. Additionally it’s great for pulling out only that bag and giving to said husband for diaper changes.
For the second bad I LOVE Better Life Bags! They have the best story giving good jobs to women in Detroit to support their families. The best part is they are extremely customizable, you pick the fabrics, leather, fabric & waxed canvas. I have 3 of their bags, now over 5 years. My tried and true is their laptop bag, great for my daily work and business life. I still use this every day, it’s a bit dirty but it’s my workhorse. My next bag is an identical matching bag but smaller sized for when I needed a slim purse but not the bulky laptop size, (3 years in use but now with baby I’m using it less and less).
And my 3rd is their Harper style back pack, just took this to Europe, and with the added water bottle pockets and pockets inside made for the perfect bag to Germany. The bitty kids bag contains the baby stuff, while the extra space is for our important ones, tickets, adult snacks, etc.
I also got a really nice mom leather bag at a consignment sale ($15), the leather makes it insanely heavy but i feel I’m getting my mom work out. The straps are customizable between hand bag, over the shoulder messenger bag and back pack. I use it daily as a backpack and over the shoulder handbag and couldn’t be happier (minus my extra arm workout).
Sorry for the long comment, but like you I couldn’t stand the ugly style diaper bags. Finding a good multipurpose leather bag has been great so I can look like me with a baby.
Azelie says
so… do you really want another opinion? LOL. Here’s the nutshell from me: I have the Skip Hop Grand Central and it’s great because when you want to cram it, MAN does it fit a lot of stuff, but when you only have a few things, it compresses horizontally (because the bottom is just soft fabric) so it doesn’t feel so huge when you grab it. But the sides are nice and sturdy so even if there’s not a lot in it, it holds its shape vertically (know what I mean?).
Or, go the “diaper clutch” route and stick it in your beautiful satchels!
Sorry for a million comments in 10 minutes (doing my catch up!).
