The day has finally arrived that I get to show you the entire garage in it’s finished glory. Words really can’t express how excited I am to show off this space. It’s so pimp it makes Snoop Dogg look like 13 year old Justin Bieber in a puppy costume. Quote me on that one 🙂 If you can remember back to the beginning of this journey, our space was very yellow, very disorganized and actually pretty dangerous.
Now it is clean and organized and everything has it’s place. I’ve actually see first hand how productive an organized space can be and it’s breathtaking!
At the beginning of the renovation, we wanted to clearly outline what we needed and wanted in this space. We need a workshop to create (so tools and access to them was vital), a beautiful area to film videos in (it’s a weird world we live in), storage for our endless supplies of DIY stuff, and a workout area for Jeremy. OH and the toys…we need to consolidate the kid items and shoes so that the kids could access them but in a safe way….no reaching past saw blades to get their sneakers.
Well I am really excited to say that we accomplished all those things! We basically created our dream workshop/gym and it blows our mind every time we go in there. Not only are we really proud of the space but we are completely humbled by it. I mean…we GET to work there. We don’t take that for granted.
So if you are new to this garage adventure, here are a few more before & afters….
So how did we get to this amazing finished space? It was quite a bit of DIY and a whole lot of organization!
Let me start at the beginning and you can click on any of the links or photos to get more details….
First we came up with a plan. A plan is always the first and most important step to any project. It’s the inspiration and can keep you motivated when things get really ugly.
Then came clearing out the garage – which didn’t get it’s own post but dude, this was a big task…
Jeremy prepped the floors for epoxy by diamond grinding off the paint….
And I fixed the cracks in the concrete with an easy epoxy kit…
Then Jeremy sprayed the ceilings and trim and we all painted the entire space. It was a huge task but we loved the final bright and light feeling.
Then came time for epoxy….which is WAY different than paint and is basically the thing we get the most compliments on….
Jeremy installed new garage door openers.…which may sound anti-climactic but these have an extension cord and a blue tooth speaker and a fan….they are the most helpful GDO ever!
And then came time to move everything back in with new storage and LOTS of organization.
Yes…this is my painting & staining cabinet and it makes me ridiculously happy just to look at 🙂
We also created a space just for Jeremy. He is an avid CrossFitter and this at-home gym is the perfect fit for our lives. Folding weight lifting and pull up rack? YES. ALWAYS YES.
We also budgeted for some over-the-top finishing touches that really take this space to wow-ville.
Overall, it came together and it is currently my favorite space in the house. Not only does it hit all the marks on function but it is also REALLY beautiful….you know, as far as garages go 🙂
And the best part is – we have some amazing giveaways in the next weeks on Instagram so that you can pimp out your garage too! If you are not following us on INSTAGRAM and FACEBOOK….go do that now. It will be the only way you can enter and by following us on both, you can earn extra entries into these giveaways. Trust. Your garage depends on it 🙂

Where did the scrap wood pile and unfinished projects go?
Katie says
So a lot of the projects we put in one of the bins…and the wood, we piled in the basement storage area – we had built a holder for it but now it is in a safer space. AND we decided that if we can’t fit it in the holder then we return it. We have a problem of buying too much sometimes and then not using it….so it just sits there…so we had probably $45 of lumber that we just took back to the store and they were happy to refund us.

Beautiful, but a quick question: where do you store all your bikes? we have a ton and are always looking for a great solution!
Julie says
Did you relocate your bikes to a different area? The space looks awesome!
shay says
Do you park a vehicle in your garage at all? Just curious.
Looks like a great workshop!
Anna says
Do you actually park any vehicles in there? Of the non-little-tikes variety?
kris says
I was looking forward to seeing this, but kind of bummed there was no cost break down? How much did it cost you to make over the garage? Is this the same league as a bathroom or kitchen renovation? I know some of the stuff was discounted/free but would love to know the prices of what you did pay to see what is doable for us. Thanks!
Rose says
Wouldn’t it be more realistic to store your project pieces and stock of wood and other materials in your garage/workshop where they would be readily accessible and build a gym area in the basement inside the house to allow room for the material stock?
While your workshop looks pretty it doesn’t seem to cover practical needs and function seems a priority if you will actually be using the power tools on display..
Maybe I’m just confused thinking of they way I assumed you would be using the area to build and create and this is actually more of a video stage? Your garage sure is beautiful whatever the case.
Diana says
Maybe a dumb question, but do you also still park your cars in the garage? It’s gorgeous, btw!
Jill says
Allll the heart eyes for this one!! So amazing, my husband would be suuuuper jealous if he saw this!!
Do you park your cars in there or leave them on the driveway? I’m in Arizona and could never give up my precious garage parking!!
Kelli says
Just curious if you park any cars in your garage? I’m sure living in the south the weather might not play such a big role in that decision but being in the Northeast, neither my husband and I are willing to give up garage space especially in the winter. As I speak hy hubby car is outside as we refinish our basement but he is itching to have to back inside soon. Your space is super inspiring — cleaning out and organizing is on our plan to tackle next year. Thanks for sharing!!
Patricia says
When you figure this is actually where you two do your jobs, this investment of time , $$$ and effort makes total sense. And it’s a great asset to your family in the coming years. As your kids grow up, they’ll be learning how to handle tools and build things.
Plus it looks like a great future party room!
Tammie Kimball says
Cracks in garage floor: I read how you “patched’ them. Do the cracked areas show through at all with the epoxy?
JennieM says
We store a lawn mower, snow blower, multiple bikes, multiple sets of golf clubs in our garage….where do you put these type items? [ 🙂 You probably would have no use for a snow blower ] But what about bigger items: golf clubs, lawn mower and bikes?
Jean S. says
It is a truly beautiful space! Do you ever park your vehicle in there?
Maryanne says
I love the pegboard with all the tools hanging up and your paint cabinet the best, but it is all awesome! Our garage is such a huge mess and I’m hoping this will inspire us to take action (maybe if I show my husband your pictures!)
Erica says
My initial question too! Ha! Also, there have to be more toys than that… like the bike question below.
Emily H. says
Love it! Amazing job!
You may have mentioned this before, but have you considered painting the wooden storage racks black to match the rest of the racks in the space?
Jenny says
Wow! That is amazing. Can you give a budget breakdown for us? I’d love to budget for doing something like in the future.
Jenna says
My favorite part of the reno is the little sign that says “Bower Power” next to the battery charging station. HA! Great job, as always you guys!
Amber says
Do you park your cars in the garage?
Anessa says
Looks amazing! Very jealous! Just a couple quick questions and maybe I missed this, do you not park your vehicles in the garage or do you have another garage? Also just wondering about storing paint out there, what about the heat? Can’t that be bad for the paint? Extreme heat or cold? Just curious.
Amanda says
My garage is the last space in my house to fix up. I love what you have done with your space and plan to borrow some of your ideas this summer as I tackle my own space. A quick question though – do you actually park in the garage? It looks like you still have plenty of space to do so but it hasn’t been mentioned so I’m curious. Thank you!
Alissa says
I’m currently looking for the high impact flooring you put in for a weight/workout area in our basement. Any hints about what kind you’re using?
Erin says
Great job! Can you still fit both cars in the garage too or do you no longer use it for car storage?
Casey says
Makes sense from a safety standpoint no doubt; but doesn’t it make sense to keep wood in the space you would be using it? Generally the best solutions for organizing are the easiest to maintain and a practical location is key to that. I bet the Shanty chicks have a wood storage solution? Maybe bars hanging across the ceiling that the wood can be stored up high and out of the way of little fingers? It’s definitely not my business; you know what works best for you/your family! The garage looks great, Katie!
Amy Wilch says
It’s AMAZE-BALLS!! I love it. Super organized and pretty, too. I was wondering what the door to the right of Jeremy’s gym leads to? Must be a door you don’t use much? Kudos to you guys on this super-hero sized makeover!
Sarah M says
Wow, just wow. Incredible job as always, guys. Hubs would KILL for something 1/2 as great as that. Can’t wait to watch the many vids I’m sure you’ll be shooting in your amazing space!
Monica says
Soooo shiny and lovely! But, may I ask – where are the shoes!!!! I need to deal with so many shoes! Need all ideas for the shoes!
Sally says
where do you park your cars?
Molly O'Leary says
I don’t quite know how to categorize this question…either obvious, stupid, silly….but, I will just ask it…
Do you park your cars in this beautiful garage now?
Just wondering…
Katie says
Nope. We park in the driveway. We can obviously pull the car in if we need to but we don’t live in an area that gets extreme weather.
xo – kb
Katie says
The kids shoes? They are in that giant bucket on the bottom shelf!
xo – kb
Katie says
The door leads to the playroom…and yes, we locked it and put an art table on the other side so there isn’t access to that room.
xo – kb
Katie says
We keep our golf clubs in our closet (protective much!) and our lawn supplies and bikes are in our basement storage area. It has double doors access to the back yard and it is closer to where the boys ride their bikes.
xo – kb
Katie says
Nope. We haven’t in the last few years. We probably would if we heard a tornado or something was coming close…but in general we don’t have extreme weather.
xo – kb
Katie says
Yes – there are some more toys….but we keep the riding toys in the basement near where the boys actually ride them. And all of the swim/beach stuff is in a bin.
xo – kb
Katie says
We considered it but we actually like the warmth it gives to the space. Plus they match the tops of the workbench storage pieces so they tie in well. It doesn’t show up as much in photos 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
Thank you Maryanne! The pegboard is such a game changer!
xo – kb
Katie says
That’s a good idea! But how would we access it if it was close to the 12 foot ceiling? Step stool? And yes – it is definitely a temporary solution because we have very little ones…I’m sure it will evolve as time goes on 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
We could definitely fit them if we wanted but we choose to park outside. It is just a personal preference.
xo – kb
Katie says
Hi Alissa – the flooring is an epoxy that you roll on like a paint. Here is the post all about it.
xo – kb
Katie says
We don’t park in there but we definitely could!
Thanks!
xo – kb
Katie says
Thank you Sarah – it’s definitely our new favorite room in the house 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
There is one area that shows through (right under the stool) but we did the coat too thin there with the epoxy…so we are gonna do an second coat there. User error! Oops!
xo – kb
Katie says
I’ll have to get all the receipts from Jeremy and total it up. I will definitely keep you posted!
xo – kb
Katie says
We do not but we could if we wanted.
xo – kb
Katie says
We don’t but there is enough room to if we wanted.
xo – kb
Katie says
It’s both a building area and a video area…something we do simultaneously as bloggers…which we totally understand is not everyone’s priority. We store the wood in the basement because little fingers are always trying to pull it down on themselves so it is for safety but that will change as they get older. And we did the gym in the garage because Jeremy realized that he liked to be in there with me (while I build or paint stuff) and the kids (while they play in the driveway or on Will’s hill). It’s just a preference thing.

Susan says
It’s the most beautiful garage I’ve ever seen! Love it!
Tammie Kimball says
Is the epoxy slippery? I guess cause it’s shiny, I think it is slippery. Looks great.
Reenie says
You guys did a fantastic job. Love Love Love it!! I’d be hanging out there all the time…. or just opening the door to look at it. HA!!
Kim says
The door to the right of Jeremy’s workout stuff… where does it lead to?
Great transformation!
sara says
Awesome job! It really looks great!
Jackie says
Looks great! I also vote for returning the wood pile to the space – doesn’t seem any more dangerous than the other items in the room. Also for painting the frame of the shelves black but leaving the shelves themselves wood to match the counter surfaces that are the same finish. Or maybe sealing them with a shinier finish to match the counter surface. Obviously nitpicky suggestions…
jerri czosek says
Love- Love this garage now. I have to ask where did all the extra wood go? Our garage is spilling over all the “extra” wood from projects.
Katie says
It goes to the playroom…and then the far right door goes to the driveway 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
It is as slippery as regular paint. BUT I hear that you can add a second coat with an anti-slip additive 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
In the driveway 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
Aww thank you Susan!
xo – kb
Katie says
Confession – I totally do that 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
We don’t park in there…just in the driveway 🙂 And we hear that extreme temps (especially cold) are bad for paints but our garage is insulated and it doesn’t get blazing in there.
xo – kb
Katie says
Sure! We will try to get all our receipts together!
xo – kb
Katie says
We took a lot of extra wood back to the store! And the scraps we put in our scrap holder in the basement storage. We just didn’t want little hands on it 🙂
xo – kb
Katie says
No we don’t but we could if we wanted!
xo – kb
Katie says
We leave them in the driveway but we could still fit the cars in.
xo – kb
LN says
Great, great job. Congratulations!!
Skye says
I love it Katie! (and Jeremy!) And I can’t wait to watch all of the awesome videos you guys will make in this lovely work area!! 🙂
Katie says
We have room to park inside, but we currently park outside.

Katie says
Thank you Diana! We have room to park inside, but we currently park outside.
xo – kb
Katie says
Thank you Julie! We moved our bikes to the basement storage for now.

Anna K says
Hi Katie! Would you please tell me about the folding stand with wheels for your miter saw? I don’t remember you mentioning it specifically before. Thanks!
Katie says
It’s the Ridgid miter saw stand. It’s available at Home Depot and it’s literally the best thing ever. They also make them for the table saw and their tile saws. It’s folds up and makes moving the saw super easy.
xo – kb
Anna K says
Thanks so much! Great job on the garage, btw!
DuWayne Baird says
I’ve been brainstorming for my garage project and stumbled onto this…exactly what I was coming up with, but better! Thanks for the inspiration!
Jenn M. says
What all did you use on the pegboard to keep the tools in place? Just a selection of hooks or are there specific hooks available? Your garage is beautiful.
Katie says
I just got the regular hooks from Home Depot!
xo – kb
Mav & Hollywood says
Hi. Excellent job! I’m doing the same thing for the most part this next 2 weeks. Question, what pegboard did you actually use? It doesn’t look like the Husky ones.
Katie says
It is the Husky ones – we turned them on their side so that we could have more height!
