DISCLAIMER: This is a sponsored post brought to you by Boxed. The opinions are 100% my own.
Jeremy sets up all our sponsored posts. You should know that. He gets all the emails and hears the pitch and then makes the decision about whether it might be something relevant to Bower Power readers or something that I might be interested in….and then brings it to me so that I can say yay or nay. 95% of the time we get a lot of ‘offers’ that are just not a great fit.
So when Jeremy told me about Boxed, I was the BIGGEST SKEPTIC. I gave him a serious side eye and told him that there is no way that I could post about this unless I did some serious research. You see, Boxed is wholesale club shopping but without the membership fees. And the best part of their pitch is that they do all the heavy lifting, delivering your bulk purchases directly to your door in two days or less. (!!!)
Did you hear that? Free shipping. Bulk prices. No membership fees.
You moms just heard angels singing didn’t you? I know I did. I mean…last time I had all three in the grocery store, I chased Weston into the back stock area, Will only wanted to play in the pumpkin display area, and I accidentally knocked over a bottle of wine with my buggy because I strapped Weston into the stroller and had to pull that too. Wine should be in my mouth…not the floor. And that was a normal shopping trip. If I need to buy diapers or paper towels or toilet paper, it means two buggys (one entrusted to a four year old), me wearing LJ, pulling a cart while Weston is Houdini-ing out of the good-for-nothing straps and praying that he doesn’t grab the eggs….because that is when the real challenge begins because he has great aim.
So if you tell me that I can stock up online on my laptop, iPhone or iPad while the boys are quietly sleeping….you just became my best friend.
But I wasn’t about to talk about it online until my research was done….so this is my blind test. I first researched my shipping and driving costs. I live out in the country so everything is far….
Usually Boxed does free shipping on the first order and all orders after that that are over $75 (since we are out in the country, it was $80)…which doesn’t really matter because we are buying bulk, remember?
Now time for the cost comparison. I chose five items that we use in our home. No point in buying bulk here without actually using the stuff we are buying right?
The items were Lysol wipes…
Cheez-It’s (post partum moms stop licking your screen)…
And Cascade Action-Pacs….
So after all that cost comparison was done and the totals were added up, I was shocked. Like I said…I was the biggest skeptic. And I was SOLD on the fact that Boxed is a great fit for families like mine. I don’t have time to coupon. I don’t have time for grocery stores. I definitely don’t want to spend more time in the car. But we go through food and diapers like it’s our job.
In fact, our very first box came in and from the time we hit ‘order’…it took about 36 hours to get to us. It probably would have taken me that long just to return from the store.
So that’s my newest little way to save time, a little money and a whole lot of sanity.

i had never heard of boxed until this morning, and this post and i.am.in.love! grocery shopping is my nemesis…and peapod, costco, and sam’s club aren’t options for us (too far!) you’ve literally just saved me some of my sanity! thank you! 🙂

This is actually a sponsored post that is relevant to my life! I have two 7 year olds and we pack their school lunches daily PLUS they have to take a healthy snack in daily! This leads to lots of crackers and things of the sort (Cheez-it’s, Cheerios, KIX, pretzels..etc) and the other night I was thinking how a Costco membership may be worth it to buy all of these non-perishable things we’re buying weekly during the school year. This may seem like the better option for us. I’ll definitely be checking into it!

I get annoyed with sponsored posts, BUT this is one I’m very glad you did – VERY relevant to your audience for sure! Thanks for sharing this great resource!

I’ve been looking for something like this for the last month, so great timing. I usually use target diapers bc free shipping and 5% off with target card, but the name brand luvs are cheaper than target diapers with their discount. Everything is going up and you can’t discount the time it takes to shop for the better price in store. So yeah this is something I will look into. 🙂

It’s Benjamin Moore’s Metropolitan…I love it!

Great post! I like that you provided examples. I use amazon subscribe and save and I love it… I wonder if this can beat amazon? It would be tough to make me leave amazon though!
Catherine says
I have never heard of them but I will definitely be checking them out now!

Wow! While this does not work for us right now (we have our first on the way and live 1 mile from Costco and still enjoy going to the BIG stores….ask me in 6 months how I feel!) we have a ton of family and friends who live no where near a Costco or Sam’s or have more than one in the oven! I never have heard of this and I liked how you did the comparison on real life products we all use. I also like how Jeremy is part of the selection and weeding out process too!
Your boys are getting so big and so cute!!!

So funny! That gray wall popped out at me as well! So thanks for asking, and thanks to Katie for answering, and for this entire post. I am going to check out the website right now.

I usually hate the sponsored posts… but this one I have already shared with three of my coworkers! I am definitely going to try it 🙂

I’ll have to look into this…I wish you had done a cost comparison with Amazon subscribe and save. We gave up our Costco membership and now get our bulk from Amazon delivered to my doorstep!
Joan says
Darn! I wish they shipped to Alaska!!

I am seriously considering this for bulk shopping. My membership to Sams ran out and I haven’t updated it because my husband has one for work, but I can’t just go without him. This site has a lot of things we like to buy in bulk and we can just order and have it delivered sounds great since we don’t really live close to sams anyways.

This is the BEST sponsored post I have seen – I love it! No gimmicks, and something virtually everyone can use. Way to go, Bower Power!!
Mary says
agree with the others – best sponsored post ever. You made everything really clear and it is very helpful!

Hi Katie! I’m excited to look into this for my family too. I appreciate the honesty of how grocery shopping with three kids is really like!! I’m pregnant with our second so I’m trying to soak up as much tips and advice to make the transition from one to two easier, and two to three when we get to that point! Could you do a post on things that made your transition to more kids easier? I would love to hear more ways you handle daily chores with more kids/babies running around 🙂 thanks!!

I’m a new follower 🙂
Sounds like a cool concept. But I have SAM’s and BJ’s memberships and I not only get boxed things there, but salad mix, frozen chickens, chicken breasts, ground beef, pastries, ice cream, kefir, milk, etc. lots of things that you can get through Boxed.
It sounds very convenient if you live far away from those wholesale markets.
Thanks for sharing!

You forgot the cost of regularly having giant boxes for playing in, making forts, coloring, etc. – Priceless.
Patricia says
Without small kids, I don’t need to buy in bulk. But as a Grandma, what caught my eye was the awesome FREE shipping box. I see opportunity knocking here . Future posts about all the cool ways to play with, in and around a big box?

Yesssss! This is how you do sponsored posts. You really tried it, you gave us solid information beyond the press release hype AND this fits with your blog. Thank you!!!! (and I may be trying this shortly!!!)

I was also interested in an Amazon comparison. Here’s what I found.
Lysol Wipes – 240ct. $9.97 .04 each. (Worse price than Boxed, better than Walmart, Sams)
Excedrin Extra Strength (not avail in subscribe & save) 300ct. $19.90 (.066 each) (better than Walmart, but worse than Sams & Boxed)
Cheezit (not subscribe and save) – 13.7oz. $2.99 .21/oz (same as walmart)
Luvs size 4 – 160 ct. $26.39 $.16/each (best deal!)
Cascade Action-Pacs – 110ct. $19.29 $.18/each (same as walmart)
Seems like Amazon has the best deal on Diapers (which I found when I bought diapers) BUT now with subscribe and save you have to choose your date each month and if you find yourself needing an out of cycle shipment, I don’t think you get the good deal. You really have to plan and know what size your baby will be next month. Seems like Boxed lets you make orders as you need them. Is that true?
Great post Katie!
Beth says
I just made my order and got another $15 off with coupon code “TWITTER”
Katie says
Thanks for doing that research! I was wondering myself!
And yes, Boxed is ‘order any time’ and does not require any set schedule or subscription….so a little more flexibility than Amazon.

Thank you so much for passing this along to us. We have a Sam’s in town and we all love going there. The problem is the impulse shopping that occurs while we are there. Someone always ends up with a new book or new shorts or a new BBQ grill.
I will definitely have to check this out and see how it would work for our family.

Was quite excited to see this post because our Sam’s Club membership is ending and we’re debating whether or not to renew. I did some price comparisons as well and I was really disappointed. I checked Lubriderm, Sensodyne tooth paste, bounty paper towels, Advil and Tylenol and found Boxed to be more expensive by $$ per unit! Their Sensodyne toothpaste is about 2$ more per tube and the Lubriderm is about 4$ more per set (set come with 2 full size bottle and one travel size). All of the items I checked were more expensive on Boxed. Definitely price compare the things you most regularly buy. I feel sometimes that ‘stores’ try to offer the best deals on diapers to hook moms, the ones who usually do the household buying and then sneak in all the other stuff. Because no one wants to shop at 3 different places. Having said that, if the shipping is free then it’s a win for anyone finding stuff cheaper there. But Buyer beware.
Katie says
I agree that it’s definitely on a per-item-basis. Some items would be cheaper and some not but for me, I think I would benefit just simply because it is way too hard with three kids and being so far away.

Cherise says
I totally get that.
