I love getting mail.
Not email.
Real mail. Snail mail.
It’s something to do with getting a letter or card or a note that someone took the time to write with their pen and paper that gets me right in the guts. Which is why I am here to remind you that now is a good time to get together those Halloween greetings in the mailbox.
We did ours today…(if you are a parent of me or my boyfriend – cease and desist reading this post as you will definitely ruin your spooky surprise.) Here’s a little preview of our simple halloween cards:
I saw the Frankenstein cards at Walmart for $1 and had to have them. They would probably be simple to CIY (craft-it-yourself for the acronym delayed out there)…but for a buck, they were too cute to pass up. And the little ghost card is a piece of black construction paper with Will’s footprint on it in glow-in-the-dark paint. God bless that Martha Stewart woman. She has just the funnest craft supplies. I hope in heaven we will have crafting. Craft time with Jesus would rock. Can you imagine? I would be doing footprints and He would be making new smells for new colors that he just invented. And I would be like “wow…I love the aroma of gurchestging” and He would be all like “I knew you would and I know you will enjoy riding this new animal I created out of flower petals and pumpkin seeds”. And then I would ride that beast over a rainbow. Like I said…it. would. rock.
Anyhoo…we simply painted that glowing paint on Will’s back paw and stamped er down. I had to do a few more coats of filling in with a paintbrush…but finally I got it to really glow well in the kitchen pantry. Then I used a white paint pen to outline our ghost and write the boo. I also put a message on the back:
Except it wasn’t all cute and fonty. I just hand wrote it. Maybe next time when I figure out that spaz I call the printer.
Oh and in the Frank card, we also put this poem…because it’s cute. So have you gotten your cards out yet? Anyone?

Imagine me Barefoot! (…not barefoot and pregnant) I would get the “I want to be a Pilot” book and share it with my 5 yr old son Jude who loves anything that zooms, drives or flies! 🙂

My son’s daycare makes the footprint ghost but yours looks so much neater with the GITD paint and the outline around it!

Wait, people in the US send CARDS for Halloween? 😐 Here in the UK trick or treating isn’t even hugely common.
Rachel says
OMG. Craft time in heaven would be AWESOME!

In the UK they don’t even sell halloween cards, least I haven’t seen any?
I thought it was a bit odd seeing them in target when I was in vegas last month, but I changed my mind when I saw a elmo card! 🙂
Just sad we don’t really celebrate it over here. 🙁
Sarah says
Very cute, very clever. My only question is, did you have to tie Will down before he could run off and leave little glow-in-the-dark tracks all through your house? There’s one way to find your way to the fridge at night :-).

Imagine Me Barefoot and reading Magic Train Ride to my nephews, who are obsessed with trains!

OK, this has nothing to do with this post, and not really anything to do with your blog. I just saw this and thought it was funny and thought you would think it was funny because of your many references to Bacon. Sorry if this is weird coming from a total stranger, but yeah. 🙂

that is exactly what craft time with Jesus will be like! Have you ever read C.S. Lewis’s space trilogy series? Reminded me of what you wrote.
Stefani says
What did you use the ribbon for? Did you add that onto the card somewhere?

Imagine me barefoot!
I would get the moon one, because I too love rhyming, lyrical books. There’s nothing quite like sitting in a rocking chair with your precious one while reading bedtime stories!

I love the barefoot ghost! I have not heard of this glow-in-the-dark Martha paint yet. Her craft supplies do rock! I just ordered some Fall cards (with a pic of my girl at the pumpkin patch) two nights ago. Does that count? Shipping estimates said they will be in on Oct 31. Oh well. They will definitely be mailed out in plenty of time before Thanksgiving.

I love it. I'll have to be a good girl from now on, just so I can get my craft on with J-Man!

Seriously! I love the idea. Thanks for the word picture.

Cute card and poem! Surely there will be craft time in Heaven, what with having all of eternity, anything that glorifies God is sure to happen eventually, right? I think our own creative efforts reflect and acknowledge Him as Creator, so that fits the bill. Think of how great the craft supplies in Heaven must be, literally awesome!

Those are the cutest Halloween cards ever! Love the glow in the dark footprint. It’s awesome that you send out actual cards in the mail. Getting mail is so much fun…I think that’s why I have 4000 magazine subscriptions (that might be an exaggeration). 🙂

I love the little foot print ghosts! It’s a pity us Aussie’s don’t really ‘do’ Halloween.

I love the idea of crafting with Jesus. Loving the word picture there. I can’t wait to smell and see all the things he can create with nothing. I hope there are other things to do with Jesus too… maybe like gold mansion redecorating?
Maria says
Along with new smells, how about new flavors?! Oh, the combinations…
Kacee says
Hi Katie – LOVE this idea! Super cute… quick question, what font is that on the cute poem you did on the inside of Will’s card??
Thanks.
