I’d like to brag on Country Living for a minute.
I scored a subscription back in December for only $5 and it quickly became one of the magazines that I looked forward to receiving each month. I even speed-waddle to the mailbox to check when the mailgal stops by. I would even be so bold to say that it is in the running for the title of “Favorite Magazine”. Yeah. It’s that good. Especially the March feature house.
The living room snagged the cover but the other rooms in the house were equally mouthwatering.
Just look at the kitchen:
and the guest rooms are amazing too. Just check out the genius little nook in the one room and the amazing sitting area in the other room:
But that kinda yummy inspiration doesn’t stop there. On their website, they show tons of interiors that are right up my alley. And here’s a sigh-of-relief-inducing-fact for all you non-country-lovin-folks. Don’t worry ya’ll…they are more pleasing than a tractor with heated seats. that also rubs feet. and feeds you chocolate. Lookie here:
Not only do they have pretty pictures online and inside their shiny covers…but they also have pretty clever ideas. Like this door turned headboard plus they have a line of gear that they sell at Kmart. Some of the stuff is REALLY country-style but some is just plain pretty. Like these dishes. And you know that I like em. In fact, I used a similar style dish at a recent shower I threw for a friend.
So now that you know what I read in the bathroom I’d like to hear what kinda magazines that haven’t closed their doors that strike your fancy. Or perhaps you are just a fan of website stalking…like you love the Martha Stewart site but don’t find the need to get MS Living delivered to your door? Maybe it isn’t even magazines but more like home decor books or you favor inspiration via blogs? Whatever your bag of decor tricks, brag a little…go ahead…it’ll feel good 🙂
My style is starting to head in the more “country” direction – probably because I grew up on a farm. I think I might have to get into this magazine. The photos you showed are incredibly gorgeous!
Girl, check out page 69 – that’s my hometown baby !!!!
Also, totally irrelevant to this post but I need your email. Gotta send you something.
Hugs – K
House Beautiful! Just like you did with CL, I bought it for $5 back in December. My first issue won’t be sent ’til March, and I have been eagerly awaiting its arrival! The magazine is just brimming with DIY projects, beautiful spaces, gorgeous accessories…I love it! 🙂
P.S. You never told us {that I recall} what decision you made on the light for Will’s room! Did you go with the homemade chandelier, the pendant, or something else altogether?
I LOVE Country Living too! I got a subscription as a gift last Christmas and it was renewed this year for the second year! Love it!! (Real Simple is my runner-up)
I love, love, love Real Simple Magazine. I am a fan of a non-cluttered house, which is really difficult with kids. This magazine has great organizing ideas, easy and cheap meals, and they have good tips for saving money, gft ideas, or cleaning. I just like the overall idea of living a little more simple, but not classless 🙂
I just got some Country Living mags from the library the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how chic the rooms were. I’m just waiting now to see a $5 subscription price!
I have also become a fan of this magazine in the past 2 months! And I was actually thumbing through the very same issue when I hopped on here to see what you were up to! We could so be good friends. (I swear I’m not a stalker.)
i got the real simple magazine for $5 and i love it! it was lots of great, easy ideas to make life… well simpler. haha!
I get my magazines a good week after every other blogger…no fair!
Okay, I’m actually surprised that I’m actually getting more magazines these days. I think the year of closures that we had last year got me to subscribe to ones I was buying once in a while. Most of the subscriptions are so cheap.
I get Real Simple (got it during the same $5 sale on Amazon), Elle Decor, Traditional Home, House Beautiful, MSL, Southern Living, Country Living, Veranda, Coastal Living (despite being 2.5 hours from the beach), and Canada’s Style at Home (my newest acquisition).
Of them all, I think I like House Beautiful and Style at Home the best. I love that HB interviews the designers of the rooms they feature. Some of the interviews reveal over the top personalities, but some of the designers are refreshingly down to earth.
I have been scouring the latest issue of CL for the past week. I loved the feature home along with the farm house featured on 102. I am now in the process of convincing my husband that we could build a very similar house on the cheap. Enjoy your read and I hope you don’t spill cCildren’s Tylenol and coffee on your issue like I did to mine 🙂
I love reading Real Simple – it’s just a great magazine overall, a nice mix of practical articles, design, cooking and fashion.
I got the $5 subscription to Country Living too and LOVE it! My husband laughed at me (a lot) when I bought it, but it has been totally worth it! 🙂
Loving house beautiful! I plan to subscribe to Traditional ome, but we’ll see…
I may have to check out country living. Thanks for the pics!
I have two subscriptions – to Style at Home and Canadian House and Home, and otherwise I use the magazine websites.
Weeellll… the only magazine I read on a regular basis is Consumer Reports… and that’s cause my mama keeps subscribing me to it (although I HAVE learned a lot)… but the REAL reason I’m commenting is because you are so pretty in your photo at the top of this post and I HAVE to know… what eyeliner are you wearing? I promise I’m not normally this shallow but I’m trying to find a good new one and your eyes caught my attention (and as a fellow brown-eyed girl I figured that’s a good reason to ask YOU!).
PS – I feel really silly asking you this… oh well! 🙂
I was actually wondering which DSLR you own 🙂
I, too, had subscribed to CL and House Beautiful and I.LOVE.BOTH. They come from usa all the way to Greece for less than 2euros/per issue (shipping included!!) To understand how cheap is this…I also loooove “El mueble” (http://www.elmueble.com/) that in Spain costs 2.5euros but I buy it from the bookstore 5.1euros! I mean…spain is just around the corner…hello!
Other favorites are Real Simple, that unfortunately closed down here in greece 🙁 and Instyle that it’s not a deco mag but…it’s the only girly mag I buy this days.
I also reaaally enjoy Oprah’s magazine and a few other european deco mags. Can you tell I’m waaaay into mags? 🙂
Recently I’ve started ordering from amazon deco books as well and unfortunately this is starting to become a habit!
I’ve had a door as a headboard for our king bed since 2002. It was a wedding present from my FIL–he made it for us after seeing it in one of the mags I had commented on it. Looks great with a crackle paint finish and the antique knob that I wanted left on.
Have you ever heard of “Fresh Home…Easy Ideas for Hands-on People”? I just found it and I love it! I plan on getting a subscription!
i love country living, too. i’ve had a subscription for 3 years or so now – my grandma & i both adore it. =P
Coastal Living!!! I grew up by the water and love the beach inspiration- I have seashells in practically every room of my house.
I love Country Living, but (and I know this is a little odd) I recently started reading Hobby Farming – one day I want to have a small farm or a really big garden, and it’s so amazing! They had this whole story on how water buffalo are great pets. You can’t beat a magazine that tries to sell you on a water a buffalo!
I love and subscribe to Real Simple. I do love to use Country Living as inspiration though 🙂
As much as I love interior design magazines… I love fashion magazines more!! 😉 I get Glamour and InStyle
Oh man! I got “Country Living” confused with “Southern Living” and ordered it instead when all the $5 deals were going on. Not that there’s anything wrong with Southern Living but it doesn’t have nearly enough eye candy. I did snag two year ‘script of “Coastal Living” for $11. I’m excited to recieve my first issue (is it me or is it confusing to have all of these “Living” magazines?!).
I LOVE Coastal Living. All the incrediable beach homes and pictures of great vacation spots. I get so excited to get it every month, its a mini vaca that only costs me $10 a year!
My MIL gifted me a subscription to Better Homes and Gardens. At first I was like “is this a comment on my housewifely skills?” (she also gave me a copy of that Martha Stewart cleaning “bible”) But, turns out I kinda loved them both! I find the best easy, fast, and few-ingredient recipes in BHG! I tear them out and put them in my cooking binder every month. I also enjoy the home design topics in there, but the gardening topics are totally lost on me. I have a bad track record with plants.
I stick to websites for the most part, but I love Ready Made and Vogue!
I love me some Real Simple!
Oh, ooo ooo ooo……bottom last picture on the right with the B&W photos and square frames. Totally what I’m going to do in our new house with our new prof. family photos! I might need to get me some Country Living.
Beautiful photos!
Totally unrelated, but do you have a Michael’s near you? They currently have some flower tealights that look exactly like the ones you have in your wishlist. I bought two, for about $3.50 each (on sale). Love them, and actually thought of you when I bought them!
With money being tight, I had done away with magazine subscriptions until I purchased BH&G dishes from Walmart and there was a FREE subscription card in the box! I am impressed with CL as it didn’t look like that when I was getting it! Thanks for sharing!…Bonnie
I love Martha Stewart Living and Better Homes and Gardens. Yes, I visit the Martha Stewart website. My guilt pleasure is my Martha Stewart 4 x’s / year Wedding magazine. I’m an event planner and that entire magazine makes me drool!
p.s. Also, your site and YHL are a daily treat!
@Breanna-I picked up a Fresh Home mag at Barnes & Noble this weekend, and totally thought of Katie!
I just let my subscription to Coastal Living run out. It was too depressing to see all those beautiful homes on the water that I will never be able to afford. 🙁
Replaced it with Better Homes & Gardens. I find great design inspiration, and the recipes are easy and yummy!
County Living has improved greatly since Sarah Gray Miller became editor. I have a complete set of her previous mag, Budget Living. May have to start subscribing to CL again!
I totally need to start getting this magazine.
